The rising global trends of climate change, water scarcity, increasing world populations and the health and wellness needs of millions impacts our business, our employees, our customers and our fellow community members. Although we are only one company, we understand how our decisions and actions ripple across a global value chain. We recognize that we must radically change our perspectives and practices to be successful for the next 125 years.

To that end, we have launched a new sustainability vision and strategy: to lead positive transformational changes toward a regenerative, healthy and abundant world. We have defined a far-reaching, aspirational vision for what a company can, and we believe should, contribute to the world, and so our strategy is underpinned by continuous learning and improvement. True sustainability is the work of many, and in partnership with other likeminded organizations, we are furthering our ability to make positive, lasting changes in the world.

What is the circular economy, and what does it mean to IFF?In developing our new sustainability strategy, we imagined a world that is circular and not just linear. A circular economy, in contrast to a linear “take—make—dispose” economy, is one that is restorative and regenerative by design. It aims to keep resources in use for as long as possible, maximize the utility and value of resources while in use, and recover and regenerate materials at the end of products’ useful life. This concept is a driver of sustainable innovation of products, business models, companies and economies. A key partner in the development of our strategy was William McDonough, a globally recognized leader in circular economy principles and sustainable development.
