Thousands of people were impacted,
benefited or enjoyed the actions taken
by Romi Foundation through our three
structuring areas - the Integrated
Educat ion Center, the Histor ic
Documentation Center and the
Cultural Station - throughout 2018,
strengthening the 60 years dedicated to
the promotion of Education and Culture
in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste and region.
There were dozens of workshops, fairs,
exhibitions, expeditions, interventions,
demonstrations, shows, trainings, visits,
projects and investments.
The year of 2018 marks the launch of
our new and renewed school, the
Integrated Education Center (NEI),
which started to attend from Kindergarten
to High School. Established in 1993 as an
educational project in the opposite
period of the regular school, it became,
in 2014, a regular full-time middle
school. Embracing more than 200
students per year, the school of its own
methodology, leading national educa-
tion, with no traditional classrooms, has
exposed a new way of thinking and
educating Santa Bárbara d'Oeste.in
Parallel to the Integrated Education
Center, our Historical Documentation
Center also faced structural changes and
expanded its extra-mural actions. It
crossed the borders and embraced other
cities around Santa Bárbara d'Oeste.
More than 190 teachers from the public
and also private schools were received at
the Historical Documentation Center to
participate in the educational action

The transformation of the Integrated
Education Center went through both the
training of teachers, current and also
new hires, until the restructuring of
buildings. We conclude an educational
complex that involves more than 30
thematic rooms, laboratories, studios
and living spaces gathered in 6.000 m2,
as well as a multi-sport and multi-
cultural gymnasium, a soccer field and
sand court. For all of these, it was
necessary a large investments in
infrastructure and human resources,
with the hiring of more than 60 new
educators, all to meet the 700 vacancies
opened and fully completed by 2019.
Faced with the success of their "new"
challenges, the opportunity for a new
change was made: this time, evolution-
ary and exceptional.
playfulness. In all, 37 schools joined the
project, which resulted in approximately
15 thousand students from Elementary
School directly benefited.
Concomitantly, more than 250,000
spectators, in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste,
Nova Odessa, Americana and Campinas,
attended the traveling exhibition
"CEDOC in Motion: Santa Bárbara 200
years". Another milestone of CEDOC in
the celebrations of the 200 years of the
city was the release of the book "Santa
Bárbara d'Oeste 200 years". The
narrative was built by the renowned
writer José Pedro Martins alongside the
award-winning photographer Ricardo
Pereira Martins.This project portrays the
city's trajectory, its foundation, the
presence of immigrants, power plants,
industrialization, population explosion,
urban evolution, the university and
technological pole, the cultural trajec-
tory, environmental aspects and brings a
panorama of it facing the 21st Century.
Adding strength to the Integrated
Education Center and to the Historical
Documentation Center, the Cultural
Station also played an important role. As
a result of the revitalization of the old
railway station, the Cultural Station
celebrated 11 years of activity in 2018, on
behalf of regional culture. There were

more than 8 thousand people benefited
by the various actions promoted as
training workshops, lectures, meetings,
fairs, exhibitions, theaters, skits, shows,
dances, literature and also more than
14,000 people that honored Virada
Cultural Paulista.
In constant learning and evolution, the
Integrated Education Center featured
another major change in the regional
scenario in 2018: it expanded the number
of school vacancies, from 200 to 700
children, teenagers and young people;
increased the levels of education offered,
embrancing from kindergarten to high
school; and it was restructured, both
physically and in terms of human
resources. Now, the new NEI complex
involves six buildings totalling 6.000
square meters allocated in 50.000 square
meters of green space, more than 30
classrooms, laboratories and studios,
living spaces, a multi-sport and multi-
cultural gymnasium with a capacity of
1.500 seats, football field with semi-
official measures and a sand court. We
also hired and trained in innovative
pedagogies 63 new educators added to
the 25 already veterans.

As the artistic expression has strong
presence at NEI, the 4th edition of our
June celebration brought "Pedro
Malasartes: wandering around Brazil" as
the theme of the “arraiá”. The June shows
promoted by the students and educators
of the school, have been seen by more
than 7.000 people. In a different way of
the traditional folklore parties, "NEI
Arraiá" performs an open-air theatrical
performance involving all students in a
performing staff with more than 200
actors, with costumes, choreographies
and a music score selected by the team of
educators and students. Under the
Direction of Marcia Cristina Reis de
Araujo and Denis G Ferreira Spanish,
Body Expression teachers, and Priscila de
Carvalho, Physical Education Teacher,
the participants staged a play created
exclusively for the event, whose central
character, Pedro Malasartes, among one
cheating and another, traveled through
the regions of Brazil and knew the
cultural manifestations of each state.
More than 1.700 spectators gathered on
the last night of June to celebrate this

BRAVE AGAINST
Attentive to any inconvenience, NEI
team participated in the "II National
Meeting Help Team Students: Brave
Against Bullying". The event, at the
Unicamp Convention Center, brought
together students from what is called
"Help Teams" and have transformed
their school realities along with a series of
authorities and researchers involved
directly with this issue. Fulfilled by
GEPEM (Moral Education Research
Group), by University of the State of São
Paulo (Unesp), University of Campinas
(Unicamp), University of Valladolid
(UVa), University of São Paulo (Unesp -
FCLar), and Fundación America por la
Infancia (FAI), the event brought different
investigations already carried out in
several countries showing that the
effectiveness of bullying prevention
programs is due to the effective participa-
tion of students in schools. It was shown
that in Brazil, the experience of the
Support Systems between Equals (SAI,
initials in portuguese) implementation
with the "Help Teams" have pointed out
the impact of these proposals so that the
coexistence becomes respectful. It was
found that by making these experiences
doable, it is possible to strengthen the
entire school community and thus
consolidate the principles that underlie
practices that are designed to prevent
bullying behaviors, as well as the
implementation of an ethical coexistence
program in schools . Since 2015, the
Psychologists Dr. Patrícia Romi Cervone
and Dr. Maria Pia Romi Campos
voluntarily carry out measures to raise
awareness and fight against bullying.
Since 2018, teachers and staff have been
going through traning on the subject,
promoted by the GEPEM team. These are
collective actions, discussion groups and
individualized assistance for the
prevention of bullying.

“Anxieties” was the theme of the "NEI
Open Doors" issue 2018. There were
more than 40 projects carried out by the
NEI students and exposed to the visiting
community along the scientific and
knowledge presentation promoted
annually by the school. With the
implementation of learning construc-
tion through the Centers of Interest, the
students of the Integrated Education
Center expressed the desire to seek
knowledge that answered their con-
cerns. Thus, in this edition, acting in
groups and under the mentorship of the
teachers' team, the children and
teenagers presented to the viewers their
scientific researches, developed to
answer their own questions and those of
the visitors, also generating new
inquiries. The projects on display
brought themes such as: public health,
discrimination, waste, old age, space
exploration, renewable energy, revolu-
tion 4.0, misogyny, fairness, prejudice,
diversity, music, hybrid cars, fashion,
among others. More than 700 people
visited the spaces set by the students to
guide and expose their previous
concepts, their research and the
construction of their own conclusions.
THE WORLDEricka Vitta, NEI Principal, visited
international initiatives in active
methodologies in Finland and England.
It was a great opportunity to dialogue
with education professionals from both
countries and members of the Finnish
Ministry of Education. The program also
included lectures and workshops on
policies and organization of the
education system, the Finnish educa-
tional system and its prospects for the
future, visits to the Helsinki teacher
training center, development of teaching
techniques, visits to British schools and
Cambridge tour. Throughout her trip,
Ericka produced a series of small videos
and photos (available on the social
media of NEI) sharing experiences of
this incredible journey.
In the arts field, the Children andYouth
Choir of the Integrated Education Center
performed at the 7th edition of “Santa
Bárbara Choir Meeting”, receptioned by
the Municipal Choir of Santa Bárbara,
sponsored by the Municipal Secretary of
Culture and Tourism, at Manoel Lyra
Municipal Theater. The festival provided
the students of NEI the integration into
the city's musical culture activities and
the access to other choirs and their
different styles - such as the "Maestrina
Marília Andrade" Choir from Americana,
"Da boca pra fora" Choir from Campinas
, “Pirassununga Club Choir” from
Pirassununga city, “Municipal Choir of
Valinhos”, from Valinhos city - and,
mainly, allowed the students to be part of
an event that appreciate this musical
style and the formation of audience-
spectator for the singing of choir. The NEI
Children's Choir presented "Bella Ciao,"
an Italian folk song and soundtrack of“La
Casa de Papel”," Nella Fantasia” (The
Misson Theme) from the movie Cinema
Paradiso and "Imagine" by John Lennon.
The repertoire was a sample of the songs
worked with the students along the
challenges in the discipline Music and
Expression.

of the thinkers of education and one of
the precursors of active methods. This

teachers, Karina Roberta Santos
Simpionato and Priscila de Carvalho,
questioned the following question:
how to exercise my role of citizen?
Students' answer was surprising. Their
interests in the exercise of citizenship
have turned to children and the elderly.
Thus, they began the activities of their
centers of interest through field
research on how to improve the well-
being of the elderly in an aging country
and children in situations of social
vulnerability. Extramural actions, like
this one, work to expand the universe of

and begin the process of understanding
it, and how their choices and behaviors
may or will impact in that environment
or in those people. Experiences that, in
many cases, the school or family space
would not be feasible.

Students from NEI staged "The
Saltimbancos" for more than
300 children, adolescents and
young people from three charities
institutions from Santa Bárbara.The show
was held at the Manoel Lyra Municipal
Theater in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste
exclusively for the public attended by the
Association of Parents and Friends of the
Exceptional (APAE), the Association of
Residents of Eldorado and Vista Alegre
(AMEV) and the Children's House (Casa
da Criança) . The initiative, proposed by
the students themselves, emphasized the
development of socio-emotional
competences and the practical exercise of
actions directed to the community. Its
accomplishment allowed ethical and
solidarity values to be experienced inside
and outside the classroom, that is,
educational volunteering acted as a
facilitating learning strategy and provided
students of the NEI, through egalitarian
action, the experience of solidarity,
tolerance, acceptance and acceptance
and empathy.

"CEDOC in Motion" provided access to
approximately 2.000 children effec-
tively participating in the historical and
affective memory of Santa Bárbara
d'Oeste in the first three months of
2018. To increase students and
educators curiosity, CEDOC brought
pirates and detectives to their educa-
tional space. Relating the historical
content available in its library and
respecting the national curriculum
guidelines of basic education, the
Documentation Center contrasted the
"static museum", instigating the
investigation and also the discovery
game, arousing the curiosity of the little
kids, putting into practice a more
dynamic learning methodology.
Dressed as pirates and detectives and
guided by the professionals of CEDOC,
educators and students experienced
the historical content, previously seen
in a "boring" way, through a new
perspective: the perspective of
challenge and protagonism.
Historical-photographic expeditions
The expeditions of the "CEDOC in
Motion" project were conceived so that
more than 100 photographers and
photograph lovers could establish a
connection between the themes present
in the exhibition space of the Historical
Documentation Center, which illustrates
and preserves the past, with the visit in
loco for perception, analysis and the
interpretation of the present and the
urban evolution of that space. In the first
expedition, they were able to visit and see
the rich details of local history, such as the
memorial of Dona Margarida, who keeps
her remains, the bust of Colonel Luiz
Alves, who gives his name to the square
and the architecture of Santa Barbara
Main Church. Already in the second
expedition, the participants learned a little
more about the history of sugar cane
production and the presence of sugarcane
in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste. Already in the
field, at Santa Bárbara Plant, the
photographers were able to visit most of
the spaces of the centennial Usina. Finally,
in the third, the participants were able to
get to know more about the history of the
traditional neighborhood of Santa
Bárbara d'Oeste and one of the oldest in
the city: Santo Antônio do Sapezeiro.
As a result of the photographic
expeditions, "CEDOC in Motion"
exhibition impacted more than 250.000
spectators when it travelled through the
cities of Campinas, Nova Odessa,
Americana and Santa Bárbara d'Oeste,
passing by the City Hall, Tivoli Shopping,
Methodist University of Piracicaba
(UNIMEP) - Santa Barbara Campus,
Industries Romi, DENSO of Brazil,

circulation of the exhibition, which took
place between May 4th and December
