Environmental Management System (EMS)

•It is the responsibility of all staff to support the institution's commitment to environmental improvement through the EMS, by complying with all relevant procedures linked to their work.

• Systematic way to manage and reduce environmental impacts.

• Ties policy together with practice.

• Setting double-sided copying as default.• Purchasing for life

Energy

• 54% reduction target by 2020, compared with 2005.

• 2014-15 carbon footprint: 14,318t CO2e– (1.1 tonnes for every student and member of

staff!)

• 13% reduction in emissions per area of floorspace achieved since 2005.

• Saw Swee Hock Student Centre: BREEAM ‘Outstanding in Design’ building.

• Re:Fit - £2.3m retrofitting project will cut carbon by 8%.

Electrical Appliances

• Ensure office windows are shut at night during

winter or open in summer • Wear appropriate clothing for the seasons• Reducing your thermostat by 10C reduces your

energy bills by 10%

Heating and Cooling

• Switch off or unplug: end of day and holidays

• Automatic computer switch off service at 7pm

• Ensure chargers and power supplies are unplugged

when not charging/in use

Transport

• Tax free cycle purchase scheme.

• Secure cycle parking showers and lockers. See the Sustainable LSE website for locations.
