    Why this is Required?

    Demand for Energy growing very fast;

    Energy shortage;

    Conventional Resources being degraded;

    Climate change, Environmental problems;

    The Promotion, Development, and Implementationof Sustainable Energy Strategy is a key solution for

    tackling these issues.

    Steps Taken.

    To limit the use of Coal;

    More efficient use of Energy Resources;

    More Stress on Nuclear Power; Financial assistance to tap Tidal and Geothermal

    energy options;

    Increased stress on building efficiency ratherthan on adding capacity.

    Promote Renewable Energy Usage

    Green Buildings;

    Less dependence on Exhaustible Resources fordomestic purposes;

    More Efficient use of Energy;

    In China, Tax on Coal is increased by four times in2008 to check its consumption for electricity

    generation, while investment in wind powerinfrastructure and Solar power technology hadbeen greatly enhanced. As a result, China iscutting its dependence on Coal.

    Accelerate Nuclear Energy

    Development

    Nuclear Energy is the only answer to everexpanding energy needs.

    Main Hurdles:

    Nuclear waste:- :- With the help of AcceleratorDriven Systems, small quantity of waste production

    as Actinides produced in reactors itself are burnt out.

    Anti- Nuclear Sentiments:- Need to instillconfidence among people regarding the safety.

    Oil Security

    India imports 73% of its oil requirements, and it will goupto 85% by 2015.

    Hydrogen is a clean energy carrier and a fundamentalmeasure to reduce Indias and Chinas reliance on oil

    and carbon dioxide emission.

    Core technologies of hydrogen fuel cells for bothautomobile and stationary uses have been developed.

    China is buying up oil fields or stakes in them in manyparts of the World and entering into strategic allianceswith global oil majors in a bid to secure its energyneeds.

    Enhance Energy savings and Improve

    Efficiency

    Indias energy efficiency is fifth lowest in the world, butthere is a room for substantial savings in industrial anddomestic sector.

    Reason:- Lack of technical knowledge, awareness, lack ofappropriate technologies and energy efficient devices.

    What can be done?

    facilitate shift towards Cogeneration;ban import of second hand machinery;

    develop domestic energy efficient technologies;

    Implementation of Sustainable Energy

    Strategies in Wind Energy

    Integrating turbines into existing tower structures suchas utility and lighting poles;

    Advanced Blade design and manufacturing methods;

    Active pitch controls for small wind turbines tomaintain energy capture at very high wind speeds;

    Use of permanent magnet generators instead ofinduction generators which enhances low wind speedstart-up, also they are more compact and lighterweight generators.

    Implementation of Sustainable Energy

    Strategies in Solar Power

    Cost:- Cadmium Telluride makes PV panels cheaper;

    Solar roof shingles

    Highly efficient solar-concentrator design- collects morerays with thousands of small lenses on a single sheet

    Giant gravel batteries- used to store energy when the sungoes down

    Efficiency- a coating of silica nano particles could increasethe power output of PV cells

    Implementation of Sustainable

    Energy Strategies in Nuclear Power

    Closed fuel cycle- spent fuel of one stage is reprocessed toproduce fuel for next stage, thus multiplies manifold theenergy potential of fuel and greatly reduces quantity ofwaste generated.

    Advanced Heavy Water reactor:- Advanced and directThorium utilization, no need to convert it into Uranium 233.

    Advanced Nuclear Power Reactors:- more fuel efficient;inherently safer; easier to operate; less vulnerable tooperational upsets; 72 hour grace period; longer operatinglife.

    Conclusion

    Effective changes of energy structure must be made in thefuture so as to promote worlds sustainable development.The sustainable energy strategy is addressed from variousperspectives to meet the ambitious target of sustainable

    energy development. In order to attain a sustainabledevelopment path, Chinas overall energy strategy isstriving to shift its coal-based energy system to asustainable energy system, but India failed to achieve anynoteworthy progress in the management and development

    of its sustainable energy strategy and more importanceneed to be given for the development of advanced andsustainable energy technologies and most importantly, toImplement it.
