1/1
Environmental Sociology Shaun Bartone, Instructor
Outline and Evaluation of Team Project: Sustainable Fredericton
Your team project will include the following four tasks:
1. Identify an environmental issue, problem or goal in the City of Fredericton. Use theavailable data to identify the problem. Discuss why this issue is a problem that
needs to be addressed.
2. Devise a solution to the problem. Use the available data to support your choice of
solution. Discuss why this solution is the best choice for this problem.
3. Develop an implementation plan. Specify whether the implementation requires a city
by-law to be passed, or a budget to be adopted. Specify what actions citizens must
take. Will the solution be targeted to city governments, businesses or households?
Estimate the costs of the solution.
4. Devise a media strategy. Discuss a plan for educating the public. How will you make
the issue, solution and implementation plan known to city ofcials and the public?
How do you want people to get involved with solving the problem?
Each group will produce a written report including all four tasks and an Executive
Summary. Each section of the written report must be 1-2 pages long and will be
evaluated as follows:
1. DATA: The section must use data from government sources (local, national or
international) or scientific sources, and/or peer-reviewed research. It must
present and analyze the data being used in the study as the foundation foridentifying the problem, its solution and implementation. = 5 points X4 = 20
points
2. CONTENT: The section must explain the task (problem, solution,
implementation, media strategy), why a particular course of action was taken,
and use the data to support the course of action. = 15 points X4 = 60 points
3. STYLE: The section must clearly explain the task (problem, solution,
implementation, media strategy) in an orderly, step-by-step fashion. = 5 points
X 4 = 20 points
Once you have completed all four tasks, summarize the whole project in a half to onepage Executive Summary.
Grades: Each task will be separately evaluated as stated above, and then addedtogether for a final grade for each project. Each student involved in the project willreceive the final grade as their individual grade for the project
