Main photo: Handmade soaps; inset from left: product display in store, wrapped bath bomb fizzies.

Soap making was a hobby that turned into a passion for Renee Lillie. In 2009, Renee stumbled upon some cupcake bath bomb fizzies and decided to try her had at making them. Bath fizzies led to lotions and scrubs, which led to a year’s worth of research about the art and chemistry of making soap. In 2010, Renee made her first batch of cold process soap and has been hooked ever since. She registered Tub-Time Treasures with the state and started selling at local craft fairs and events.

With much success at the local level, Renee also opened her own website and started selling online as well. The products from this “hobby” were in such great demand that even other soap makers had begun purchasing them and in July of 2013, Renee left her 15 year medical career to pursue her business full-time. She uses her extensive medical background when formulating her recipes and takes pride in the ability to create custom batches for problem skin.

Renee opened a brick and mortar store front in December of last year. Much more than your average retail space, she also offers classes, make-and-take events and enjoys partnering with other local businesses to create private label items like soap made from beer for a local brewery, pet cologne for the local dog groomer, and gift baskets for a realty office. Renee also donates her end cuts to Feed the ‘Burg, which makes sure that those small bars of soap get in the hands of the Roseburg homeless population.

Renee believes that everyone deserves to have access to proper hygiene. She is the Community Outreach Director for The Lovin’ Soap Project, a non-profit education based program that empowers women in developing countries

The Sweet Smell of Success

through the art of soap making. Most of the women that this project works with are living in tent-camps or small rural communities where clean water and electricity are scarce. In these communities, just having access to soap for washing your hands can save your life. The Lovin’ Soap Project locally sources all of the materials needed for these women to make soap, and leaves them with a skill that they can pass down to their children, a business plan, a product that they can barter with and/or sell for needed items, access to scraps for washing their own hands and a sense of empowerment.

Sutherlin – City of Flags is proudly displaying our first Flag Monument at the Visitors Center! With 28 versions of the American Flag from Betsy Ross to our current flag, we have unveiled Flag #15 which flew when Oregon became a State. Six more monuments will be placed in strategic locations in the near future. This collaborative project between The Chamber, Sutherlin Downtown Development and the City to attract more tourism is a great opportunity for local businesses or non-profits to participate by underwriting a Flag Monument with their name to help create The Flag Walk.

CONGRATULATIONS on 5 years in business to Bill Ratledge of Better Way Electric!
