e-Newsletter no. 25
This month's Focus Value is KindnessDear Parents and Carers
What a fortnight it’s been! Who would have thought that only last week we were struggling
through (or enjoying) snow? Our school community is made of strong stuff, so we kept calm
and carried on as normal, including celebrating World Book Day on 1 March. Parental turnout
and support was excellent despite the freezing weather, and participation in the event was
the best it has ever been. Children from right across the school stayed behind with their
families for the FoBs Storytelling led by Christina Huszar, our Reading Leader, and ably
supported by her Dalmatians and Camberwell Library. This Newsletter is full of a selection of
photos from the day, and show not only that Reading is Power, but Reading is Fun!
By happy coincidence, Lorna Farrant our new librarian started work at Brunswick on World
Book Day. She worked for many years in Brent Public Libraries and has a wealth of
experience and wisdom to bring to us. She is running our libraries and from next week will
work with groups and classes to continue to improve reading standards and increase interest
and enthusiasm for reading across the school. We also have a fabulous new Receptionist
called Eden Saint Claire whose calm efficiency is helping the School Office run smoothly. I
know you will make both Lorna and Eden very welcome.
Parents and carers of pupils in Year 6 have now received their offer of a secondary school
place for their children. I am delighted to report that more pupils than ever before have
received one of their offer preferences. If you need any advice or support following the
receipt of your offer, please contact me or Mrs Inniss-Griffith via the School Office.
Periodically we survey parents and carers to gather their views of the school so we can use
them to continue to improve it. The link to the latest survey is on the home page of our
website www.brunswickparkprimary.co.uk. It is extremely short; the more responses we
receive the more valuable it is to improve provision for the children. I thank you in advance
for your help and support in completing it by 29 March 2018.
Finally, the Beast from the East did not get us, but Thames Water’s burst pipes did. Thank
you very much for your patience and understanding on Monday when we were forced to
close the school for the day as it had no water supply due to 3 burst water mains in the
immediate area. Your swift reaction to our alert message was much appreciated. These
are sent out to everyone registered on ParentMail. A tiny number of parents and carers did
not receive it; if you are not registered on ParentMail please see the School Office Staff
who will help you.
With best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable weekend.

Thank you for celebrating the
Power of Reading with us!The children, staff and FoBs did us proud on World Book Day, despite the snow. We
spent the day celebrating the enjoyment reading brings, and ended it with group
storytelling, performance poetry and much-needed refreshments. Bookmarks were
on display, and the children received a WBD Voucher; don't forget to spend it!
Warm thanks go to you and everyone involved on the day, and particular thanks go
to Miss Huszar, Brunswick's Reding Leader (aka Cruella De Ville), who together with
her 6A Dalmatians made the event go with even more of a swing. Photos below....

Booster Classes for Year 6 pupils start on
Wednesday 14 March after school. Parents
and Carers have been contacted separately
about these, so if you have missed the letter,
please contact the School Office for
another. It is expected that all children
attend these classes to ensure they are as
well-prepared as possible for their
forthcoming SATs in May.
Just Enough UK - Preventing RadicalisationYears 5 and 6 were lucky enough to take part in ‘Just Enough UK’s’ information packed workshop on
preventing radicalisation. Unsurprisingly, our oldest pupils handled this complex issue very well.
Through drama, discussion and questioning, they were able to build on the skills and British Values we
foster at Brunswick Park as well as developing strategies for creating social cohesion between people
of all backgrounds. The children all had amazing ideas about the universal teachings of all religions;
respect, kindness, love and peace, as well as the influential impacts of how social media can be used
for both good and bad. They looked at figures throughout history such as Martin Luther King, Malala
Yousafzai, Rosa Parks, and Mahatma Gandhi who all used their ‘Voice’ against violence and not only
communicated their message to the world peacefully but in doing so, changed it! Most importantly,
our pupils have been given the tools to ensure that they can remain safe and use their VOICE in our
ever-changing world - and they had fun doing it!

Reminders to all Parents and Carers
Correct School Uniform:
Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct
uniform. All children must wear black shoes, black or
grey school trousers or skirts and socks and Hijabs
should be plain white, black or grey.
Punctuality:
Please ensure your child arrives to school on time every
day; arriving late is embarrassing and missed learning
time affects achievement and stops your child from
reaching his or her potential.
Parking:
Please park carefully when dropping off and collecting
your children. Parking carelessly puts children at risk.
Wardens patrol for the children's safety and welfare.
