Public Speaking Tips
To aid voice projection, speak to the
person farthest away from you to ensure
your voice is loud enough to project to
the back of the room. Vary the tone of
your voice and dramatize if necessary.
India Republic day Assembly—Year 2
On Monday, Year 2 celebrated Indian Republic Day in style! With flags held high, the children marched proudly onto the stage. Even though the Yogi Hall was packed, the children did not let nerves get the better of them and they belted out their lines with clarity and expression. A big thank you To Mr Naera and Miss Bacon for Their tireless efforts and
the year 2 parents for their wonderful support.
Our theme for this week is
Humility
Primary Maths Challenge Miss Hodgson writes: All the Year 5’s and 6’s took part in the Primary Maths Challenge in November. Over 79 000 pupils from 2035 schools entered the PMC this year. From the scores that were returned, they were able to select 1184 pupils who scored 21 or more. These chil-dren have been invited to sit the Bonus paper in on 4th February. We would like to congratu-
late Vaidehi Chauhan and Aaditya Deshmukh for being invited to sit the bonus round.
READING ROCKS! Reading is a favourite activity in the Prep School and over the next four weeks we will be participating in a festival of reading we have named 'Reading Rocks!'. Kicking off festivities next week will be the commencement of the annual Readathon and activities throughout the week in order to celebrate National Storytelling Week. During the Readathon, pupils will be encouraged to seek sponsorship from family and friends based per page or per book and read as many books as they can up to Friday 27th February. Further activities planned
for the first week of our festival include:
· Teacher partner reading – teachers swap classes and read to pupils in order for them to
experience a range of reading styles
· Peer Reading – classes are paired up and pupils share a book with each other
Keep an eye out for further information going home next week! We thank you in advance for your support in our initiatives designed to motivate and inspire a love for stories in your
child.

Guests at the Governors’
Meeting
Arya Saheta (left) and Vrutti Patel (right) were invited
to sit in on the latest Governors’ meeting last week to
discuss the wonderful charity work that has been hap-
pening at the school this year.
In particular, they talked about donating shoeboxes for
‘wings of hope’, a charity that sends gifts for children in
India.
Needless to say, the Governors’ were very impressed
with what they had achieved.
Thank you to the parents for your generous dona-
tions—it does make a difference

Year 6 Trip to Royal Academy of Art and Hamley’s
Eashan Patel and Kushal Patel writes: On the 19th January Year 6 went
on a school trip to the Royal Academy of Art and Hamleys toy store. We
first went to the Royal Academy of art were we looked at paintings by Gio-
vanni Battista Moroni and his teacher Moreto. We split up before joining
again for lunch. After lunch we went to Hamleys toy store and split into
groups of 5 and ventured around Hamleys, answering questions to do with
money and budgets. After completing the questions we had free time to
buy toys and play with things in store. We all had a great time and were
disappointed when we had to leave.
Year 5 Trip to Gunnersbury Park Victorian Museum
Prarthna Middha Writes: We arrived at the museum after a short trip by coach. A
lady came to pick us up and lead us to the Victorian school building. We were briefed
about how we were going to ushered back into the Victorian times for the next hour
and a half. We were given instructions to be respectful, disciplined (in a very Victorian
way) and to take things seriously but not personally. Once in the classroom, it was
rather strange that we were expected to sit still, speak when spoken to (not be inquis-
itive, how on earth could one learn in such an environment?). The classroom itself
looked so gloomy and not inviting. The lessons were pretty boring as all they consist-
ed of was chanting, writing on slates , reading and writing. There were no discus-
sions, interactions or questions allowed.
After lunch, we got first-hand experience of being poor Victorian kids of ages 10-11
who were expected to get up in the wee hours and toil all-day long until past mid-
night. They had no freedom whatsoever, they could not even dispose
their own wages at will. All in all this experience made us realize
how blessed we are to be born in these times with a right to freedom
and liberal education. I would like to thank Mr. David and Mr. Owens
for not only organizing this trip, which happens to be the best trip
ever, but also for being so patient and great teachers for us. I would
also like to thank all our parents, which we don't do that often for all
the privileges that we enjoy.
