INTRODUCTIONThe Eswatini Standards Authority (SWASA) is a corporate body established by the Eswatini Government through the enactment of the Standards and Quality Act No. 10 of 2003. The mandate of the Authority is to be the national custodian and advocate for the use of standards and quality principles in Eswatini. SWASA began its operations in the year 2007 with the appointment of the Council, Management and Staff.

Vision

To be the recognised centre of excellence and preferred supplier of services relating to

the use of standards in Eswatini.

Mission

To promote quality principles and facilitate the use of standards to reduce technical

barriers to trade and investment and to provide technical support for SMME and

industrial development in order to ensure a sustainable Swazi economy.

SZNS 040: 2014 Infant formula and formulas for special medical purposes

ZNS 049:2015 Maize grains- Specification

This standard specifies requirements and methods of sampling and testing maize grains. The standard applies to maize (corn) for direct human consumption, i.e., ready for its intended use as human food, presented in packaged form or sold loose from the package directly to the consumer. This standard specifies requirements for whole grain shelled dent maize, Zea mays indentata L., and/or shelled flint maize, Zea mays indurata L., or their hybrids and of all colour types.

This Swaziland National Standard is applicable to bananas of cultivars grown from Musa spp. (AAA), of the Musaceae family, in the green state, to be supplied fresh to the consumers. This standard does not cover bananas for industrial processing and bananas intended for cooking only (plantains). The standard specifies quality attributes of fresh bananas after harvesting and grades them

SZNS CAC/RCP 58: 2005 Code of Hygiene practice of meat

The scope of this code covers hygiene provision for raw meat, meat preparation and manufactured meat from time of live animal production up to the point of retail sale. It further develops The Recommended International Code OF Practice: General Principles of Food Hygiene’’ in respect of these product. Where appropriate, Annex to that co (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point System- HACCP and Guidelines for its Application of Microbiological Criteria for Foods are further developed and applied in the specific context of meat hygiene.


SZNS CAC/RCP 66: 2008 Code of hygiene practice for powdered formulae for Infants and young Children.

This code covers the production, preparation and the use of products available in powdered form, referred to as Powdered Formula (PF) for the purpose of this document, and specifically manufactured to be used for infants and young children either as a breast milk substitute, to supplement infant formula or fortify human milk or in combination with other foods as part of the weaning diet for older infants and young children.

SZNS ISO 6658: 2005 Sensory analysis- Methodology- General Guidance

This National Standard gives general on the use of sensory analysis. It describes testes for the examination of foods by sensory analysis, and includes some information on the techniques to be used if statistical analysis of the results is required.

Generally these tests are intended only for objective sensory analysis. However, if a test can be used for determining preference, this is indicated.
