    Catching up On September 24 th we invite all interested sta and students to

    help us launch with us the fourth and nal cycle of GreenImpact. This year we will commence the new cycle with a very specialactivity! All of last years successful Green Impact teams will plantLeadbitter sponsored fruit trees to start up a new Green Impactcommunity orchard on campus.

    Last year this environmental award and accreditation schemewas extraordinarily successful in celebrating and recognizingsustainable achievements undertaken by sta and studentsacross the University!

    Together we have made so much progress that it is time now toclimb the next level. Over the next year we will develop anexciting new bespoke programme for Swansea Universityincorporating all the lessons learned and feedback received.

    Raising our game

    June Swansea University adopted an Ethical Investment Policy androcedures . The policy aims to ensure that investment ac vity is in lineith the values set out in the Universitys Strategic Plan and associatedrategies and polices in rela on to par cipa on, health and wellbeing,ommunity and sustainability.

    In recogni on that fair working condi onsare essen al Swansea University a liatedto the Workers Rights Consor um (WRC)this month. The WRC is an independent,non -poli cal labour rights monitoringorganisa on, which makes e orts tocollaborate with workers, non -governmental organisa ons, and otheruniversi es and colleges, to improve thecondi ons of workers in the garment

    industry. By a lia ng with the WRC, the Universityagrees to adopt a code of conduct toconsider issues such as wages, hours ofwork, over me compensa on, freedom ofassocia on, workplace safety and health,womens rights, child and forced labour,harassment and abuse in the workplaceand non -discrimina on.

    Swansea University will use the code of

    conduct, within public procurement law, tohelp its procurement specialists to engagewith supply chains through disclosure ofgarment factory loca ons from allUniversity garment suppliers, contractorsand sub -contractors, to share with theWRC. Where the University is in aconsor um, we will endeavour to getinforma on from collaborators orsuppliers.

    Both schools overshot their targetsand collected 2700 bottles in total!The bottles will be recycled into 150new sports jerseys for the schoolssports teams.

    Following the students example IPCsustainability volunteers will keep akeen eye on recycling during thegames, undertake beach clean upsand help visitors to reduce theirwaste wherever possible

    Coming up If you are a bee -keeper, part of a bee -keeping society or interested in

    bees or keeping bees in the future you may be want to attend theSEACAMS Green Impact Excellence Team honey bee event.

    This informal event will run from 11:30 14:00 on Wednesday 20 th August 2014 .

    Location will be on campus but is yet to be con rmed. The event will be a combination of shortinformative presentations regarding bee -keeping, the history of beekeeping, the global contextof bees etc. and demonstration sessions of hives, a tour of hives on campus, honey for sale and a

    chance to chat to other bee -enthusiasts on campus and from outside bee societies.

    As part of the Green Impact scheme the SEACAMS team have taken part in the Excellenceaward, a year -out scheme which involves taking on a mini -sustainability project. For this

    SEACAMS have introduced honey bee hives on campus and planted a wild ower meadow. Aspart of this scheme they are also running this event to raise awareness of bees on campus. More

    information on SEACAMS Green Impact involvement will be presented.

    The Role of Action Plans and Intrinsic Motivationon Exercise Goal Success

    We are conducting research on ways of helping peopleincrease their physical activity. We are particularly interested inrecruiting people who want to increase their daily step count.

    You will be asked to attend three study sessions over the course of 5weeks. You will have to download a free pedometer app onto your phone

    and you will be asked to record the number of steps you take per day.

    Participants: Anyone with an Android or IPhone

    Time required: 3 sessions over 5 weeks(25 minutes for session 1 & 2, 45min for session 3

    Fee for participation: Entry into a draw for one of 2 prizes of 50
