BREAKOUT SESSIONSCHILDREN

Answers In Genesis: Your preschool and elementary aged children will embark on an adventure to seek biblical answers to questions about the age of the Earth,

creation, and all about those dinosaurs! They will enjoy Bible lessons, crafts, science experiments, games and snacks! We are excited to connect with your children by helping them become ready to stand strong in their faith and knowledge of the Lord.

STUDENTS

The Seven Checkpoints: Principles Every Teenager Needs to Know: This study will begin to look at seven ‘can’t be without’ principles that every student should

understand about their faith before they graduate high school, including Authentic Faith, Spiritual Disciplines, Moral Boundaries, Healthy Friendships, Wise Choices, Ultimate Authority and Others First. David Peat will facilitate this session.

Biblical Worldview: How do you view the world? It’s one of the biggest questions, and how you answer is one of the most important things about you. Sam Allen will

lead you through an interactive journey to help you identify your worldview. This class will equip you to think carefully about not only what you believe but also why you believe it and how it impacts the rest of your life.

ADULTS

9 Practices of a Proactive Parent Part 1 & 2: Parenting Matters seeks to thoroughly equip parents to train up children in the way they should go. This workshop results

in solid families and children who consistently demonstrate courageous, Christ-like, character-healthy behavior (students encouraged to attend).

Redeeming Your Relationship (Mary Garber) You and your husband are not connecting spiritually. You may be in a great relationship or barely holding on to

your commitment of marriage. You have been praying, hoping, and now just waiting. God desires this spiritual connection more than you do. Come and be encouraged by those who have walked this path.

Financial Planning for Seniors (Charles Dickens) Despite the fact that the experience is almost universally shared, too few of us are prepared to deal with the

financial challenges that arise as we grow older. But with the recession having decimated many Americans’ savings, and forcing many workers to take on unexpected expenses – like helping unemployed or underemployed adult children – it is now more important than ever to prepare for this stage of life.

Choosing a Life Partner (Wayne Duman) “It is not good for man to be alone,” then why is there so much divorce in our culture and even in the church? Explore what

God’s Word says about sifting through the emotions of going from attraction, dating, walking down the aisle, to getting married. This session will help you whether you are going down the path yourself, or if you are trying to counsel a child, grandchild, or loved one about making the second most important decision of your life.

Page 5: SWIFT CREEK · You have been praying, hoping, and now just waiting. ... of God. We will discuss tools, tips, and resources to equip parents to train their children to be godly citizens

Intentional Parenting (Steve Scheibner) Our goal is not simply well behaved, outwardly compliant children, but rather a generation of character-healthy

leaders prepared to impact their world for Christ. Parenting Matters will provide you the confidence to make wise and thoughtful parenting decisions without being blown and tossed by worldly and destructive philosophies.

Technology, and Teens: Becoming a Tech Savvy Parent (Trevor Collazo) Technology is a tool. With proper training, it can be used to advance the Kingdom

of God. We will discuss tools, tips, and resources to equip parents to train their children to be godly citizens of the digital age. Topics will include smart phone apps to watch for, parental controls- how much is “too much”, which device and when, and resources to stay up-to-date on the ever changing world of social media.

Developing a Biblical Worldview for your Home (Sam Allen) How do you view the world? It’s one of the biggest questions, and how you answer is one of the

most important things about you. We will lead you through an interactive journey to help you identify your worldview. This class will equip you to think carefully about not only what you believe, but also why you believe it and how it impacts the rest of your life.

Caring For Your Aging Parents (Ron and Sandy Noll, Joe and Mary Depasquale) We will discuss topics such as daily nutritional needs, organizing medications,

emotional support, assisting the elderly to doctor visits, depression in the elderly, independent and Assisted Living Care, and Hospice Care

Intentional Marriage (Chris Moore) God wants our marriages to be fantastic! He wants our marriages to be honoring to Him as well as enjoyable to each other.

Please join us as we discuss some ideas on how to intentionally enjoy marriage with our spouse and how to honor God at the same time.

Surviving and Thriving through a Crisis (Jason and Shannon Hill) In life we are guaranteed to go through difficult situations. It’s not a matter of IF it is going to

happen, rather WHEN is it going to happen. If you are currently going through a difficult time in your life or have gone through a difficult time in the past and don’t know what to do or how to get out from living in the past - please come to this session. Together we will talk about ways you can not only get through each day, but also how to embrace the day that God has given you. God has plans for your life and wants to see you flourish for HIS kingdom.

Your Life on Mission (Nelson and Cynthia Yount) Do you have a desire to be used by God to fulfill the specific purpose He has for your life? Using experiences from

our own life journey, we will explore the idea of God’s calling and how you can live expectantly, prepared and ready to hear God and respond in obedience.

How to Create Lasting Relationships with Other Women (Susan Beals) Do you desire deep friendships with other women who share your values? Would you like

to develop a circle of friends to “do life with” who can be your support and sounding board? Are you in need of a mentor? Join us as we discuss strategies for developing these types of relationships and ways to connect with women in the church.

Page 6: SWIFT CREEK · You have been praying, hoping, and now just waiting. ... of God. We will discuss tools, tips, and resources to equip parents to train their children to be godly citizens

How to Love and Respect Your Spouse (for Women) (Maria Lester) This session will explore ways we can demonstrate love and respect to our spouse. During a

time when society downplays respect and love, we need to strive to honor our mate at all times.

Living a Legacy (Art Avent) You are living your Legacy now. So what influence will your life have on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations? Come explore the reality of your

influence and the actions that you can live to control that influence.

Retirement Living Questions and Answers (Mike and Mary Jennings) As we progress through the stages of life, perhaps one of the most anticipated and most

feared is Retirement. Retirement generates many questions and concerns; you may be years away from retiring, retiring soon, recently retired, or you may be an old pro at the art of retirement. This is a facilitated session to get questions from those attending the session and will collectively use the knowledge of the group to provide useful information.

Begin Again: Experiencing Victory in Life after a Divorce (For Women) (Elizabeth Trail) Divorce can leave deep pain and scars but the blood of Jesus has made all

things new, including you! No matter what your “story” is, you are God’s masterpiece and the scars of your “story” were not for nothing. He planned GOOD things for us long ago!

Parental Rights (David Miranda) David has worked most of his life in the technical sales profession, but beginning March 2014 he has dedicated his time to help realize

the Parental Rights Amendment. David and his wife Ann began homeschooling their two children in 1999, and David now serves as National Grassroots Director for ParentalRights.org, the organization spearheading the effort to realize the Parental Rights Amendment (PRA) to the U.S. Constitution. He speaks in churches and other venues to raise awareness to the increasing erosion of parental rights that threatens the liberty of Christian parents to teach and train their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Marriage Matters: Part 1 & 2 (Steve Scheibner) It’s a true statement that you’ll never be a better parent than you are a husband or wife. Designed to be the most

important relationship on earth, too many marriages begin or stumble along with no understanding of God’s manufacturing instructions for marriage. God doesn’t want your marriage to just last, but to grow and thrive. Whether you are a newlywed or a seasoned veteran, Marriage Matters will make a struggling marriage hopeful and a good marriage even better.Designed to increase the intimacy in each couple, on the spot assignments will open the door to discuss subjects that may have seemed off limits.

The Single Mom (Teresa Kalson) The single mom is one of the fastest-growing sects of our population. Women often find it difficult to connect in the church

and to balance the heavy load they carry. Whether unwed, divorced, or widowed, single moms need emotional support, parenting advice, financial instruction, and spiritual growth opportunities. The church cares about you. This session will help you in these areas as well as to help you find an opportunity for community at SCBC.

Financial Stewardship (Mark Doughty) Discussion of biblical views on money and suggestions/tips on organizing your personal finances.

Page 7: SWIFT CREEK · You have been praying, hoping, and now just waiting. ... of God. We will discuss tools, tips, and resources to equip parents to train their children to be godly citizens

The Blessing of Special Needs Children (Loretta Geyer) This is a time of information for those facing the challenges of having a special needs child. It

will include a Q&A time with topics covering the family dynamic, the child’s personal challenges, our ministry opportunities as it relates to Swift Creek, and the impact of those with special needs on our community.

Health for Seniors (Herb King) As a physician I see a diverse spectrum of 80-year-olds. You will be equiped with information about how to stay young even as our

bodies grow older.

Grandparenting with Purpose (Steve Scheibner) With the baby-boomer population aging and moving into the third generation, the need to develop a

family legacy of godly behavior has become even more essential. With an instructive and intensely practical approach to grand-parenting, Steve helps grandparents everywhere navigate the important issues related to their children and grandchildren. Can I have an impact on the lives of my grandchildren? What is the balance between helping and interfering with my grown children? Is it possible to establish a long lasting family legacy for Christ? Find the answers to these questions and more in this session.

Band of Brothers: Connecting with other Men (Jason Hill and Chris Derry) As men, we find it easy to connect with each other about work, movies, DIY

projects, and sports. But those surface level connections don’t help us as we battle through the deeper issues of life. We must be proactive, and scripture gives us a great understanding of what real brotherhood looks like among believers- sharpening for godly character, support, encouragement, and mutual accountability. Don’t wait for your next battle to start to assemble your platoon!

One Necessary Thing: Prayer and God’s Word (Brenda Lindsey) In this breakout session we will take a look at the disciplines of spending time in God’s Word and

prayer. There are many things clamoring for our attention and justifying our indulgences. Let’s deliberately choose the one thing Jesus said we should be concerned about—the one necessary thing. It will take discipline. It will take resolve. But what a reward! This will be the difference-maker on this earth and in every relationship and every circumstance. Join us for a closer look at the Christian disciplines of being in God’s Word and prayer.

Thriving Through the Seasons of Motherhood (Margie Sims) With ten kids spanning almost twenty-five years, Margie has experienced every season of

parenting--often at the same time! In this talk, she explores the ups and downs of each season, and encourages moms to find the fun in every stage along the way.

Homeschooling and Adoption (Heather Barr) Homeschool? Adoption? Oh my! If you are or have ever considered adoption then this breakout session is for you!

Sponsoring a Child with Compassion International (Pam Winter/Elizabeth Trail) Can’t adopt or foster but desire to change the life of a child and let them know

God loves them? Learn how changing the life of another through sponsoring a child can change your family’s life, your homeschool life and your children’s lives!

Page 8: SWIFT CREEK · You have been praying, hoping, and now just waiting. ... of God. We will discuss tools, tips, and resources to equip parents to train their children to be godly citizens

Organization 101: It begins with a “no” (Melissa Doughty) Do you dream of you, your home, and your kids being organized and running smoothly? Are you

frustrated with never having enough time? Missing Appointments? Double booking? Sick of clutter? Come be encouraged, celebrated, and given permission to relax and truly enjoy your blessings. You will be equipped with a few simple “how to’s” and ideas to walk away feeling refreshed and ready to create a game plan.

Apples of Gold: Cooking and Etiquette (Pat Avent) Bring your child and come learn the art of creating a delicious masterpiece and timeless art of etiquette.

An A to Z Guide to Character Healthy Homeschooling (Megan Scheibner) Do you remember why you first chose homeschooling? Didn’t you want your

children to stand out as loving leaders committed to serving one another and their God? Don’t lose sight of that goal. Don’t let the world distract you from the main focus of your homeschool: instilling your values in your children.

Psalm 127: A Psalm for Fathers (Robert Sims) Protecting and providing: it’s what dads do. Father of ten, Robert Sims, shares from his many years of parenting on

having enough faith and fuel for the family.

Kouponing with Kristin (Kristin Campell) Come and learn how to stretch your dollar by using coupons and store deals to get you the most bang for your buck!

Journeying Off the Planner (Monica Davenport) When you’re feeling like a failure we’ll discuss ways to help you find your path.

Literature Selections: (Irene Reynold, Susan Spaulding) Feeding the soul, fueling the imagination through literature. How to select quality literature for your K-12

student.

Homeschool Keynote Speaker (Anne Miller) “I Could Never Homeschool Through High School” and Other Lies We Believe” Taking responsibility for our

child’s high school education can seem daunting, but take heart--it is do-able and can yield incredible benefits. Come and be encouraged as you gain insight into what’s truly important (it’s not what you think), learn some “secrets” of success, and discover some pitfalls to avoid--all from a mom who has been through the process eight times.

The Discipling Mom This talk will give mothers the tools they need to disciple their children in the important areas of prayer, service, Bible study, scripture

memorization, and true fellowship. Moms will walk away encouraged and strengthened, knowing that although discipling their children seems a huge task, God is on their side.

Lego Club for parents and kids: Interactive time for parent and kids to build something out of legos together based on the day’s theme. Afterwards, the kids will present what they built to the group. You will also have an opportunity to join the club for future meeting times.

Page 9: SWIFT CREEK · You have been praying, hoping, and now just waiting. ... of God. We will discuss tools, tips, and resources to equip parents to train their children to be godly citizens

Steve is a pastor, author, motivational speaker, former Naval Pilot and the founder and President of characterhealth.com. During the morning services, Steve will describe what it feels like to have someone die in your place, not once, but twice. He lived out this reality on September 11, 2001, when he was scheduled to be the First Officer on AA Flight 11, the plane that crashed into the north tower. He will also outline his involvement and reaction to the terrorist hijacking of the flight. He will also relate the testimony of First officer Tom McGuinness, the pilot who filled Steve’s seat, to the substitutionary atonement of Christ, who fills our judgment seat.

Megan is a teacher, counseler, author, and the home schooling mother of eight beautiful children, four boys and four girls. She has been married for 29 years to her college sweetheart, Steve Scheibner. Together they have co-authored Parenting Matters, The Nine Practices of the Pro-Active Parent.
