A fan favourite is back this season, with the NSW Swifts rewarding supporters for coming early to our home games with the First 500 fans to receive a special gift.
To help celebrate Harmony Day, the First 500 gift this evening is a Harmony Day ribbon; which we would ask every recipient to wear throughout the game.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre for our next home game on Sunday 19 April against the Northern Mystics!
continues in 2015
As I sit down to write this welcome, my mind is instantly taken back to last Sundays game against the Queensland Firebirds and the unrivalled noise generated by you, our fans, during the fourth quarter.
Ive been involved in netball for over 20 years, having attended hundreds of elite games over this time, and I can categorically say Ive never heard such support at any netball venue whether in Australia or New Zealand.
Sitting on the coaching bench, I rarely hear whats happening in the stands; as Im in the zone and completely focused on the game. However, last Sunday I found myself swept up by the wave of noise around me and it honestly made my hair stand on end!
Thank you doesnt seem enough, but it was your support that encouraged the girls to dig deep and rally from eight goals down to claim an epic draw against a Firebirds side which has featured in the last two Grand Finals.
Our Members and fans are our eighth player on court, and on behalf of the entire team, please continue your enthusiast and very loud support at every home and away game this season.
Back on court, and while Im happy with our undefeated start to the season, Ive not been fully satisfied with our first three performances.
We made six changes to our player roster during the off-season, and we are still evolving both our connection and combinations. While our good has been very good, our poor has been just that; and finding consistency is now our priority. Im very excited about what this group of athletes can achieve once we hit our stride, as our collective aim is to obtain that elusive second Premiership for the NSW Swifts.
Tonights opposition, the West Coast Fever arent top of the Australian Conference Ladder by chance. They have a well-balanced roster with plenty of depth, which is well coached by Stacey Rosman and her staff. In their opening three games, the Fever has shown real fluidity, scoring a high volume of goals, and have punished opposition errors with real precision. We cant afford a slow start tonight as we did against the Firebirds, or we will find it difficult to secure the win.
On behalf of the NSW Swifts, we welcome Stacey, her team, plus their supporters to our home here at Sydney Olympic Park and look forward to an enthralling contest.
Go Swifts!

During Round 4 of the 2015 ANZ Championship, all five Australian Franchises are using their respective games as an opportunity to celebrate Harmony Day 2015.
Harmony Day, which was officially marked on Saturday 21 March, is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds equally belong to this nation and enrich it.
The NSW Swifts are proud to support a number of Netball NSW Sport Development
initiatives and programs within indigenous and multicultural communities throughout NSW. Netball is not only a great sport, but it promotes teamwork, positive communication, good health and inclusiveness, all in a fun and safe environment.
Orange is the chosen colour for Harmony Day and during tonights game you will notice the two teams will play with orange Gilbert netballs. In addition, all NSW Swifts and Netball NSW staff, including the bench, will be wearing a Harmony Day ribbon to show our support for Harmony Day.

Jade ClarkeCracks the 50 mark
While the NSW Swifts and foundation player Susan Pettitt (nee Pratley) celebrated their 100th ANZ Championship game in Round 3, another quiet achiever also notched up a personal accomplishment at the Clubs first home game.
English import player Jade Clarke made her 50th ANZ Championship appearance when she took the court at Wing Defence against the Queensland Firebirds her first home match in the Swifts dress in front of a roaring RED ZONE.
Oh wow, how amazing was that crowd! As an opposition player you are fully aware of the Swifts crowd because they make so much noise and are such a support for the team, so to be on the receiving end of that this time was fantastic, Clarke said.
When we got into that final quarter and began to claw back [the deficit] the crowd were right behind us and pushing us all the way. Im not sure Ive heard a crowd that loud you could hardly hear yourself think let alone your teammates or the umpires whistle.
It was seriously amazing to have that support; the crowd were definitely our eighth player on the court.
Its been a long road to the magic 50-game mark. After initial attempts to get picked up in the new Trans-Tasman Netball League in 2008 proved futile, Jade was determined not to give up on her dream.
She relocated from Manchester, England to her now-base Sydney where, through her contacts with then-England Head Coach Sue Hawkins, she joined Parramatta Auburn to play in the 2009 DOOLEYS State League Waratah Cup competition.
Ive always liked to travel so its something that was exciting for me [to move to Australia], but at the same time its a bit scary because youre leaving your family and friends and taking a huge chance, Jade said.
When I was little I tried to play against people who were older, bigger, and more experienced than me because I thought that was the only way I would get better. Australia and New Zealand have been the pinnacles for a long time, so I thought if you cant beat them then why not join them.
I decided to move over to Australia, get accustomed to the style of play and mental toughness, and thats come full circle now that I find myself here with the Swifts.
While happy to ply her trade in the premier netball competition in New South Wales, Jades chance came when Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic suffered an injury late in the 2009 season and she jumped straight on the phone to then-Head Coach Noeline Taurua.
Luckily it paid off for me; Im living in a beautiful city playing the game that I love, and just really enjoying life, Jade said.
From the Magic, Jade was picked up by the Northern Mystics for the 2012 season, before moving south to Christchurch to join the Mainland Tactix for two years (2013-2014) in which she picked up a Club MVP award last season.
As they say, the rest is history and now Jade finds herself sitting in 73rd position on the ladder for most games played in the ANZ Championship (Fun Fact: During Round 3, both Laura Langman and Irene van Dyk overtook injured New Zealand Silver Ferns Captain Casey Kopua as the most capped athletes thus far in the League on 108 games).
While theres still unfinished business for Jade before she hangs up the netball dress Id love an ANZ Championship medal hanging round my neck she has one piece of advice to budding netballers.
Make the most of your opportunities, work hard and just do the best that you can, Jade said.
Theres always been players that are faster than me, that are more talented, but I think that if you work hard you can improve and, sometimes when youre lucky, beat them. Thats been my philosophy throughout my career.

Harmony Round Celebrating Australias cultural diversity through netball
The NSW Swifts are proud supporters of Harmony Day, which is celebrated on 21 March every year in celebration of Australias cultural diversity. During Round 4 of the 2015 ANZ Championship, all five Australian Teams will embrace Harmony Round, and tonight the NSW Swifts will show the Clubs support of Australias cultural diversity through an awash of orange; as players, umpires, coaches, officials and spectators all show their support for Harmony Day.
Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and creating a sense of belonging for everyone. Netball in Australia has identified a need to make our great sport more welcoming and accessible to the diverse requirements of the ever-changing Australian population.
As part of the One Netball program, Netball Australia has developed the Connected Clubs
and Communities Workshop to help Clubs and Associations build upon the work currently taking place, and provide further information, ideas, support and resources to make their netball environment more welcoming to all members.
In the spirit of Harmony Day, Netball NSW has recently completed the first pilot of a new state-wide initiative New to Netty. New to Netty is a come and try program targeted at people aged 10-15 years, inclusive of all backgrounds and abilities.
New to Netty aims to engage children in netball through a positive, free and fun experience that bridges the gap for young people to join a local netball club. The program endeavours to overcome barriers to participation through partnerships between Netball NSW, local Netball Associations, as well as Community Brokers.
During tonights curtain-raiser, participants are putting their training on show after recently completing the New to Netty program at Blacktown City Netball Association. Through the New to Netty program some of the participants have also just commenced their netball careers on Harmony Day itself!
Being welcoming and inclusive, and trying to proactively encourage diversity to be a true reflection of the community in which we operate is vital to the growth of netball throughout NSW.

The NSW Swifts are blessed to have THE BEST Members and supporters in the ANZ Championship, and one such fan is Sydney Swans midfielder, Gary Rohan.
Swifts Insider caught up with Gary himself, an esteemed netballer ahead of tonights game to get some insight into his love of netball and the NSW Swifts!
Swifts Insider (SI): How did you come to play netball?Gary Rohan (GR): Back home in Cobden in country Victoria, there wasnt an under-14 footy [AFL] team, so I went and played netball with my older sister. I was 13/14-years-old when I first started playing netball.
SI: What position/s did you play?GR: I played centre and goal defence which were both great positions.
SI: Is it true you were named your Clubs Best & Fairest?GR: Yes thats true. Back in Cobden when I was 13 I won the Clubs B&F, I actually beat my older sister by one vote which I was happy about. I won the League B&F that year too!
SI: Swifts Insider has heard a rumour that when you first arrived at the Sydney Swans the boys nicknamed you Netty after your love of netball? GR: That is true. During the telecast of the AFL Draft, the commentators mentioned that I played netball before footy. So when I got drafted to the Swans the boys nicknamed me Netty, which they still call me.
SI: As a professional athlete and netballer!!!, how much respect do you have for the athleticism and ability of the NSW Swifts players?GR: I have huge respect for the players. Netball is a really quick sport, players have
great skills and endurance, its physical so there are actually quite a few similarities between netball and footy.
SI: Youre a regular at NSW Swifts home games, how different is watching a game live as opposed to on TV?GR: Its really good live, its better in many ways. You can see a lot of things you cant on TV their set-ups, player movement around the court, tactics and its also quicker live than on TV.
SI: Apart from the NSW Swifts. who do you think are the contenders for the 2015 ANZ Championship?GR: Id have to say the Vixens. Theyre a good team so Id expect to see them in contention.
