My Party

After having been in this new plant for more than a couple of months and

having attended quite a number of parties I thought it was time for throwing a

party of my own.

Since my family is yet to come from Mumbai my plush company decorated

quarter is all empty . It must be a good house warming party then but In

absence of my wife and daughter this has to be a all bachelor party.

Seeing my nature of job here I wanted someone to take care of all the

arrangements on my behalf.

Sital is an engineer who just joined in my department. Sital is also attachedwith our club activities. I called him and asked him if he could do me the favor

of arranging the party on my behalf.

Oh sure, it's my pleasure Sir, Just tell me the menu and venue, the rest will be

done.... , Sital was more than happy.

But Sir....,, Sital was little hesitant.

Yes ..Sital ?

Sir, if it's going to be a booze party then please don't bring this (cheap) .

brand and also don't get it from this shop as police has raided his shop

recently for shoddy liquor, Sital told at a stretch without knowing my

reaction.

I love young people who really speak from the gut.

OK done, you bring the finest quality of liquor from your preferred shop, I

issued him a crate blance for the party.

We mutually agreed upon the next Saturday for the party night but instead of

my quarter he insisted for the club as people will be more comfortable in the

club rather than in quarter.

Sital will arrange the party while I will take care of the invitations.

So the arrangements went on. On Friday evening we sat together to finalize the

lists of the invitees. We excluded the GM as he will be leaving for Raipur earlynext morning for flight also his presence will be a rather deterrent for the

people below to get relaxed freely.

Sir, are you sure this sectional heads are really coming ? , Sital was very

inquisitive.

Why are you thinking so ?, I was more curious now.

I don't know but these people rarely come unless some big boss or the GM

himself be in the party, Sital told nonchalantly.

It means atleast 10 plates are in doubt.

OK don't worry we would sort it out - I assured Sital to go ahead with total

list of invitees.

These ten sectional heads though have accepted my invitation but are not

coming unless the GM comes to the party, They all are expecting the GM in

the party but the GM is leaving early in the morning for Raipur flight. What to

do now ?

I know if I invite him he cannot refuse as he & I have worked together many

years before and he always treats me differently but how can he come ?

In the late evening I entered his cabin for giving him a report while talking I

just told him the party I was throwing. He knew it already. I tried to offer him

to join , he painfully asked my pardon as he has to leave for Raipur early next

morning.

But I need your presence else our ten invitees, the sectional heads .. ,

He is very sharp. He understood it well before I elaborated further.

OK you will have my fifteen minutes in case it becomes essential . just tell

me when ....

I came out of his chamber with a lighter mood.

The Saturday evening came.

Sital has done a great job ! finest quality whiskey , cold drinks , fruit juice ,

soda , lime , salad , fruits - every thing was ready besides great dishes and

starters to greet the people to relax & enjoy.

Till 9:30 PM all my guests have arrived except the ten sectional heads. People

are savoring whiskey, juice, fruits & foods. The party is in full swing.

I signaled Sital to a corner, What about the tens.. ?

All have inquired indirectly but none is coming it seems, Sital was relishing

his 2nd peg.

OK just spread the news that the GM is about to arrive, I whispered Sital.

I went to a corner and dialed the number.

May I come and pick up you now ?, I was very apologetic.

Don't come , I'm reaching in my official car.

I along with Sital rushed to the entrance to receive him. Meanwhile Sital has

spread the news that the GM has arrived.

Surprisingly even before we hit the ground floor lobby some of my esteemed

sectional heads were found secretly climbing the other stair case towards the

party hall.

We received him and then took him to the party hall.

The sectional heads all ten surrounding him tried to fill his glass. He

appreciated the ambiance and the variety of foods.

On 15th minute I signaled him but he continued to relish his 1st peg along with

ten solid followers.

At 17th minute his mobile phone buzzed. Call from his home - his father in law

from US wants him to join the family for a video talk.

With half finished peg he woke up reluctantly towards the gate. Before saying

bye he told everybody to enjoy the party as tomorrow would be Sunday

besides he would be out of station to bother them for works. His ten soldiers

were more than happy now.

At the gate I thanked him profusely for coming.

I have an advise for you

Yes, I'm all ears.

- Next time don't invite kids who even for enjoyment need a guardian

Yes, you are so right.

His car vanished at the corner of the road. I returned to the party. The kids are

now in full blast. The party continued till half past midnight. Everybody

seemed full satisfied while returning home.

I proceeded towards my quarter. The whole environment was whitewashed in

bright moon light. Some white flowers are blooming proudly on the road side

fence. They are small yet they have a wild smell and their smallness drawsrespect from all around but some people have too much respect for others that

they have very few left for themselves. They remain kids all their life.
