Course Information

This class will allow students to develop Advance English vocabulary and grammatical structures so that they can successfully communicate. Also, students will develop literary and analytical skills which will enable them to be successful in future courses.

Specific units are described in the scope and sequence on the following pages. Every unit will develop students: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing skills.

Classroom policies

1. Arrive on time.2. Raise your hand before speaking.3. Listen to others and participate in class discussions.4. Stay on task.5. Do your assignments.6. Bring materials and have them ready.7. Listen to directions and cooperate with your group.8. Do not interrupt other students ‘learning.9. No vandalism. Do not write or carve on your desk or school property.10.Keep your hands clean and take care of personal hygiene in the rest room

during breaks.11.Clean your work station appropriately.12.Absolutely no food, drink, gum, or candy permitted.13.Be organized and prepared for class.14.Do not come to class late without a hall pass.15.Respect all ideas given in class and do not criticize anybody´s ideas or

thoughts.16.Receiving or sending cell phone calls or text messages in classrooms,

computer labs, or library is inappropriate and impolite.  Please turn them off, except in emergency cases and with the instructor’s permission.

17.Cheating is obtaining or intentionally giving unauthorized information to create an unfair advantage in an examination, assignment, or classroom situation. Plagiarism is the act of presenting and claiming words, ideas, data, programming code or creations of others as one's own. Plagiarism may be intentional - as in a false claim of authorship - or unintentional - as in a failure to document information sources using MLA (Modern Language Association), APA (American Psychological Association) or other style sheets or manuals adopted by instructors at the College. Presenting ideas in the exact or near exact wording as found in source material constitutes plagiarism, as does patching together paraphrased statements without in-text citation. Disciplinary action may include a failing grade on an assignment or test, a failing grade for the course, suspension or expulsion from the school, as described in the Code of Conduct.

18.Regular attendance, as specified by the instructor, is expected of all students.  Distance Learning course participation, as specified by the instructor, is expected of all students and may be considered for grading purposes the same as "attendance."  Extended absence/non-participation (due to illness or injury) should be reported to your instructor immediately.
