I. LAS NOTAS: (grades)

Tarea:You will receive homework almost every class meeting & it is due at thebeginning of class for full credit. I will take late homework either handed inpersonally or e mailed until midnight of the date the assignment is due. Anyhomework handed in late will be worth half credit. I will be giving youparticipation and homework grades on a regular basis.Pruebas:I will do my best to give you all the resources possible to be successful on

quizzes throughout the units. Please refer to the blog for power pointflashcards and other materials. Expect 3-5 quizzes per unit.Examenes:Every 4-6 weeks we will be having unit tests. These tests will encompass thevocabulary, grammar, and culture dealt with in the unit. The test format willinclude short answer, multiple choice, short essay, listening, and oral andwritten parts (the oral and written parts will be flip flopped from Unit to Unit).You will be given the opportunity to correct mistakes on unit tests for halfcredit per question. I will not take up class time for this and it must be doneduring Advisory.Oral Assessment:/ParticipationYou are expected to speak Spanish in my class. By actively participating inthe target language (Spanish) and using it to the best of your abilities (evenif you make mistakes) you will receive a good mark. Any assignments wecomplete in the computer lab, with the exception of major projects, will counttowards your participation grade. Also, any assignments we complete inclass for a grade will go towards your participation grade.

Your semester grades will be determined by the following weights:Homework/Participation/Portfolios: 20%Quizzes: 35%Unit Tests: 45%

Final Exam: 20%

II. SOCORRO! If you need extra help to get you through the year, you haveseveral options:

A. See me before school (Im here by 7:30)B. Get a pass from me to come in and get help during advisoryC. If neither of these work, let me know and Ill stay after school to

help you but Ill need to make arrangements to have someone letCooper out.

III. Si ests ausente : (If you are absent)

A. phone a friend/check the blog/e mail meB. See me when you return to school to discuss make-up work and to

turn in homework assigned before your absence. Homework assignedbefore your absence is due the day that your return to Spanish class.All handouts missed will be in a tray in the back of the room.

C. NOTE: You have 3 days from the day you return to make up a test ora quiz if you were absent on the day it was given. You will have oneday plus one for every Spanish class meeting missed to make uphomework assignments that were assigned while you were absent

D. Any tests, quizzes, or projects announced before your absence mustbe taken on their due date. For example, if I announce a quiz onMonday that is going to be taken on Thursday and you are gone onWednesday.you must still take the quiz on Thursday whether youwere here Wednesday or not.

F. Please inform me if you know you will be absent and I will do thesame for you.

IV. Class Conduct and Cheating:Please be very familiar with your student handbook with regards to cheatingand class/personal conduct. You all know me, I know you all, so you knowwhat I expect::

We all know the drill by now.if you think its wrong dont do it.Dont use translators, dont let anyone copy your homework, dontcopy anyone elses homework,

Dont be jerks to other people because I WILL call you on it. Dont complainit just irritates me and puts me in a horrid mood. If

you think you can do it better, let me know, Ill let you try. If you think you can explain something in an easier way, let me know

youre not the only one learning here. Im learning too. You have noidea how much I learn from you guys.

Lets all get along and have funotherwise this will be a LONG year.

V. Expectations:If this isnt beating a dead horse I dont know what is. You know how to actin my class and I know you know how to act in my class. There will be nowarningsyoull just win yourself a trip down to the officeand they dontreally want to see you. So just because I dont want you to tell me I nevertold you heres a refresher:

Being on time to class means being in your seat when classbegins, not walking in the door as class begins.

No beverages or food of any kind in classthis just gets us all introuble. You can hardly speak Spanish clearly if you have gum/mints in your

mouth now can you?

Come to class on time and be prepared:I DO NOT WANT ANYONE GETTING UP TO GETPENS OR SHARPEN PENCILS ONCE CLASS HASSTARTED. I hate that. Respect the property and space of your fellow classmates andteacher (I dont touch your stuff, dont touch mine) Participate! Speak Spanish as much as possible. Its not as hard as itlooks. Trust me; if I can do it so can you! Besides if anyone makes funof you for trying theyll deal with me. May not sound too scary buttrust me, its no walk in the park.Suggested materials for Spanish classes:

Three Ring Binder and loose leaf paper for keeping handouts andtaking notes

I write with different colored markers on the board while taking notes.Many find it helpful to take their notes in different coloredpens/markers as well.

Three Ring Binder and dividers for Portfolio (this isnt suggested this isa must have) if you dont have a binderI have some leftovers I canprovide.

This is not the place to be if you intend to be shy or not beinvolved in class. It will only hurt your grade. People are steppingout of their comfort zones and attempting something theyvenever done before: speaking a different language. I will notaccept I was just kidding, he/she knows Im kidding or wevebeen friends for forever as excuses for mockery and ridicule. Its

like Ive said 100 times before; lets not be jerks. I wonttolerate itat all. Youve all seen me angryits not pretty nor isit necessary.
