Hexaware Approach
Air Nigeria allows booking of tickets both through web and direct booking. Ticket generation system
used by AN, is based on third party mainframe application SHARES. Hexaware Technologies Ltd
(HTL) was responsible for support and maintenance of the Air Nigeria website along with the
development of other web enabled processes.
The Challenge
• BizTalk and WebSphere MQ interaction - With the use of MQ adapter, the maintenance and
debugging is made much easier, any changes made in the MQ / BizTalk login credentials (SSO
credentials) can easily be changed using the COM+ component known as MQS Agent. Any
errors regarding the MQ adapters can also be viewed through Event viewer console.
• Monitoring the BizTalk databases - The data is persisted in BizTalk database (BizTalk message
box database) and after processing it is moved to tracking (BizTalk DTA DB) database; this
process forms an important part of maintenance, if the data is persisted for a very long time in
Message box database it slows down the BizTalk engine.
• Updating the PNR in shares after the completion of payment with e-ticket option.
• Managing the enormous amount of data in web service table, as application is storing all the
booking details for each PNR in this table.
• Providing option for payment in case any connection loses in the time of flight booking.
• PNR retrieval from SHARES system and eligibility check for online check-in.
• Merging of css and images into IIS server for new Look of the website.

Value DeliveredHTL gave support to the Air Nigeria Website and developed certain modules like PNR Data Parsing,
Online Booking System, Payment Gateway, P2 Parsing Application Support and Flexible booking
required to enhance the existing functionality.
Overview of newly developed modules
• P2 Parsing Application SupportThe PNR data parsing is being carried out by BizTalk Server. The module deals with the parsing
and storage of the booking files (P2 files) received from SHARES via MQ series.
• Payment Gateway Payment Gateway has been implemented in the booking engine to facilitate the online payment of
tickets through credit/debit cards for Air Nigeria customers.
• Flexible BookingWith this online booking engine, customers can make bookings for the cheapest available class
within a cabin. With the proposed system update, customer will have the option of either booking
the cheapest available or flexible ticket.
• Online Check-inThis module provides online check-in as a new feature for Air Nigeria Customers. It controls all
aspects of a passenger selecting a seat, seat being allotted to the passenger, passenger being
checked-in for the flight and sending of notification of check-in details to passenger.
• OABS – Online Agency Booking SystemThis module controls all aspect of online Travel Agency operations. It will involve allowing agencies
to register for the service for both IATA and Non-IATA agents, Approval of such registrations by the
sales Department, making bookings, Discounts, Commission, Booking Modification, Making
Payments, ticket Issuance, activation/deactivation and BI reporting. It will help to reduce the risk of
erroneous entries that occur in manual transactions. Also reconciliations would be more accurate.
• ICORP – Corporate Desk This module controls all aspects of a corporate client including registration, approval of such
registration, client bookings, Discounts, credit Limit, booking modification, payments, ticket
issuance, Account enabling/disabling, invoice generation and BI reporting.
• New Website MigrationRestructuring of the website resulted into improvised Look n Feel and removal of redundancy.
Migration included changes to existing JSP, Html, aspx, CSS, and image files for the new Look of
the website.
