Christine Belling was appointed Library Director effective January 8. Christine, whose public library career spans nearly twenty years, was the Systems Manager at Syosset Library for close to eleven years prior to becoming Library Director at Uniondale Public Library for the past three years. MARCH IS WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTHA HISTORY OF THE WOMEN’S MOVEMENT FROM CAVEWOMEN UNTIL TODAY. Fri.. Mar. 9 at 2 PM. Cavewomen spent their days taking care of babies while their menfolk were out hunting or waging war. The Jewish Bible, Christian Bible, Koran and other ancient holy books adopted this view of women until the mid- 1800s when the Modern Women’s Movement emerged. Join Dr. Ron Brown in exploring this chapter in history.

ROBERT MOSES: VILLIAN OR SAVIOR? Thurs., Mar. 22 at 2 PM. Probably no other man in the history of New York State has changed the physical and social landscape like Robert Moses. Professors Howard Ehrlich and Harvey Sackowitz from St. John's University will explore how he was able to accomplish his master plan.

ROOTS OF THE DINNER PARTY WITH PROFESSOR MARY VAHEY. Fri., Mar. 23 at 2 PM. Since the 1970s, Judy Chicago has been a pioneer in the development of feminism. Her most influential and known work is the sweeping installation The Dinner Party, celebrating women's achievements in Western culture.

Beneath this the Civil Rights movement was accelerating the pace of change in the United States. Join us for a look at our community during this volatile and significant time.

HOME IMPROVEMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR TOBAY SENIOR CITIZENS AND THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED. Fri., Apr. 20. 10:30-11:30 AM. The lecture provides information to residents of TOBAY who are senior citizens and the physically challenged about how to make essential home improvements by providing interest free loans. This program is administered by the Town's Department of Intergovernmental Affairs and is made possible by a federal Community Develop­ment Block Grant.

THE LOST ELEGANCE OF THE GREAT GATSBY ESTATES. Thurs., Apr. 26 at 2 PM. Orin Finkle, house historian, who has written over 150 published articles devoted to mansions, gardens, owners and architects during the “Gatsby Era", will speak and show rare photos of several prominent Gatsby estates and their wealthy society owners.

THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW: A CAVALCADE OF COMEDY. Thurs., May 3 at 2 PM. Ira Epstein will cover the 23 years of the Ed Sullivan Show which featured America's premiere comedy legends performing their acts for millions of Americans every week.

May 4 at 2 PM.Tanisha Mitchell, opera singer and librarian at the Metropolitan Opera and Freeport libraries, will discuss how opera is used in popular culture, specifically movies and commercials. We will see opera clips from movies including The Shawshank Redemption, Carmen Jones, Fatai Attraction and more.

RUNNING AGAINST THE MACHINE WITH PROFESSOR JAMES COLL. Thurs., May 10 at 2 PM. Want answers to questions you have about our electoral process? Run for office! Prof. Coll, an Adjunct Professor of American and Constitutional History at Nassau Community College and Hofstra University, a NYPD detective and recent candidate for the Nassau Legislature and Christopher Paolillo, Campaign Manager, will provide non-partisan analysis of the county's only Republican primary this year.

HEALTH PROGRAM: HERBAL SUPPLE­MENTS WITH DR. HUY HOANG: Fri., May 18 at 11 AM. Dr. Hoang will talk about common herbal supplements available over the counter and cover the benefits and side effects of many herbal supplements including Ginkgo Biloba, Black Cohost, St. John's Wort, Giseng and Fish Oil. Sal St. George will explore the life and career of one of America’s most beloved motion picture stars.

Among many art, music and literature lovers, the expatriate community in France during the Jazz Age represents history’s most remarkable convergence of talent in one place and period. DRIVER SAFETY CLASSESAARP SMART DRIVER CLASS, for points and insurance reduction, is held approximately once/month.
