She has quickly captured the attention of the ACC, averaging 1.3 blocks per set thus far.The average places her seventh in the conference. She also recorded 28 kills against Illinois-Chica- go earlier this season. The significance you ask? It is tied for the seventh in the nation for most kills recorded in four sets.

Last year’s team leader in kills, Amanda Dolan, has just 66 this year. The amount ranks her third on the team and 40 less than sophomore Laini Leindecker who leads the squad with 106. Tatum Jungsten’s team-leading 37 blocks is already more than half of the 57 she accumulated last year.

Leindecker recorded her fifth double-double of the season in her last game, recording 10 kills and 12 digs despite her team’s 3-0 loss to Northern Arizona. The Great Danes face Syracuse on Saturday at 5 PM in the first game of the Otto Invitational. The two teams last met in 2007 with the Orange earning the win in three sets. A proven winner at all levels, Leonid Yelin is the sixth head coach in Syracuse University volleyball history, after taking over the program in 2012. Yelin led the University of Louisville to 14 NCAA Tournaments, including four NCAA Regional semifinals from 1996 through 2010.

The longtime Louisville head coach brought more 30 years of experience with him before his inagural season in 2012, including international experience as both a player and a coach in Uzbekistan.

Yelin successfully transition SU through its first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, posting a 16-16 overall record, including 11-9 in the ACC. The Orange finished tied for fifth in the league after being picked to be 12th in the preseason. In the process, Yelin picked up his 500th career win, becoming the 32nd active coach to reach that milestone. Outside hitter SIlvi Uattara became Yelin’s first player to earn All-ACC, while also being recgonized as an All-Region Honorable Mention.

In his first year with Syracuse Yelin recorded 12 wins, which included a triumph over No. 18 Iowa State for the programs first-ever win against a nationally ranked team. He ended the season with a .748 career winning percentage, putting him 17th among all-time Division I coaches.

Prior to SU, Yelin built the Louisville program into a perennial national power in his 15 seasons, posting a record of 366-112. He had 11 seasons with 20 or more wins and two seasons with 30 or more victories. In 2004, he earned the AVCA All-Midwest Region Coach of the Year award and was also recognized as the Conference USA Coach of the Decade the same year. Yelin mentored seven All-Americans, including six who played for their national teams and 12 student-ath-letes who played professionally.

Yelin began his intercollegiate coaching career at Barry University in 1991. He led the Buccaneers to the 1995 Division II National Championship en route to earning NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year honors. In 1994, Yelin was named the AVCA Division II South Region Coach of the Year after taking Barry to its first NCAA tournament, where the Buccaneers advanced to the Elite Eight.

Before his NCAA coaching experience, Yelin was a successful player and coach in Uzbekistan. He played for the Republic of Uzbekistan men’s team from 1970-75 and then started his coaching career as the head coach for the Uzbekistan junior (U-18) team. Yelin was named the head coach of the national Uzbekistan women’s team in 1977, leading that team the 1977 and 1981 U-18 national championships and the 1978 USSR Women’s World Cup title. He was the head coach of the Ukraine women’s professional team from 1983-87. Yelin was the head coach of the 1988 and 1989 Uzbekistan men’s national championship professional teams.

Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Yelin earned his equivalent of a master’s diploma in physical education and sport training from the Uzbekistan Government Institute of Physical Culture and Sport. His wife, Yelena, was a member of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s Women’s National Team from 1973-86 and was a member of the USSR Olympic team from 1975-78, during which she was a two-time European Champion. The couple has two grown children, Eleonora and Boris.

The former University of Louisville volleyball standout Lana Dukule begins her second season as assis-tant coach of the Syracuse Orange.

“This will be a smooth transition for everyone,” said Yelin. “For me, she’s replacing a former teammate, so I don’t have to make any adjustments since she played for me. She brings in experience, not just as a collegiate player, but she also played professionally overseas. A lot of players have a dream to play after college, and she will be a good example of you can do it too. She is a great role model.”

A four-year letterwinner for Yelin when he coached the Cardinals, Dukule was a member of Louisville’s NCAA Tournament teams from 2004 to 2006, which included consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in her first two years and Conference USA All-Freshman First Team recognition.

Dukule enjoyed a phenomenal senior campaign, garnering All-BIG EAST First Team and All-BIG EAST Tournament honors. She ranked first on the team with a .342 hitting percentage and 36 solo blocks, second with 350 kills and third with 102 total blocks. That season, Louisville led the country in blocks per game at 3.94.

“Coach Yelin is a great mentor,” said Dukule. “I played for him at Louisville and I always dreamed of working with him. I am very excited and can’t wait to start.”

Upon receiving her B.S. in business administration and finance, Dukule began her career as a profes-sional volleyball player with the Volta Mantovana Volleyball Club in Italy. She spent the next two years in France playing one season each for the EVB Volleyball Club and IOPV Volleyball Club.

During the summer of 2012, Dukule was a non-playing member of the Latvian National Team at the Latvian Olympics.

Erin Little now enters her second season coaching the Orange after enjoying a four-year playing career at Syracuse and a one-year stint professionally overseas.

Little was as a member of the Orange squad from 2008-11, when the team compiled an overall record of 80-47, including a pair of 20-win seasons and three trips to the BIG EAST Tournament. While at SU, Little was a solid student-athlete, earning honors both on and off the court. During her senior season, the outside hitter was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 24 after helping the Orange to a perfect 3-0 week, while totaling 35 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks.

Equally impressive, Little is the most recent SU volleyball player to be recognized on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team five times. Additionally, Little’s academic achievements placed her on the Syracuse Athletic Director’s Honor Roll a total of nine times.

Following an undergraduate B.S. advertising degree in the spring of 2012, Little traveled overseas to play professionally in Finland with the club Orpo. Little starred as an outside hitter and helped her team win the Finnish bronze medal. Since arriving back in the U.S., she has spent time coaching with the Iroquois-Empire Volleyball Association High Performance program, a part of USA Volleyball’s “Olympic Pipeline.”
