4.4.3 Energy review
The organization shall develop, record, and maintain an
energy review. The methodology and criteria used to
develop the energy review shall be documented. To
develop the energy review, the organization shall:
b) Based on the energy use and consumption, identify
the areas of significant energy use.
identify the facilities, equipment, systems,
processes and personnel working for or on behalf of
the organization that significantly affect energy use
and consumption;
determine the current energy performance of
facilities, equipment, systems, and processes related
to identified significant energy uses;

ASME EA2-2009
•ASME standard published and
identifies the procedure on how to
carry out a pump system assessment
on a rotodynamic pump.

ISO 14414 (TC 115 WG7)
•ISO standard still at committed draft
level , the standard will include
positive displacement pumps and
possibly information on mechanical
seal systems. Currently copyright and
IP issues with ASME which have
delayed the document by 15months.

System Assessment Standards
EN ISO /IEC 17024 – Conformity assessment – General
requirements for bodies operating certification of persons
• Organisational structure and management system to
be in place.
• Scheme committee required
• Impartiality committee required
FACILITATOR ACCREDITATION
• 2 year time consuming and resource intensive
process
• Expensive initial outlay £20k plus annual fee to
maintain accreditation

EN ISO /IEC 17024 AND
FACILITATOR ACCREDITATION
Goal
Identify an agreed International
qualification structure for
engineers who wish to carry out
pump system assessments.
Training
QS PSAT & ASME EA2 -2009 - currently
fulfils the requirement of independent
training and pump assessment strategies
Hydraulic Institute systems Training –
PSIM – this is based on optimising the
pump unit and does not look at carry out
audits .
Ray Hardee – excellent material and
strategy , but not independent .
Training review..........
Develop Pan European System Standards:-

Assessment procedure ( EA2 /ISO 14414)
EUROPUMP SYSTEMS APPROACH
• 26 BPMA members trained as PSAT Qualified
Specialists in July 2010, a further 17 in June 2011 and
also to use the ASME EA-2 system assessment
standard and solutions course.
• Currently 3 suitable customers identified ;
• Pre – audit visits carried out
• 3 Free audits carried out during summer, one
20% saving , one 94% and one 96% saving !!
• Audit reports and savings to be documented
• Visits to Defra / Decc & Carbon trust with
conclusions , Presentation day in London
before end of 2011
