System Requirement

There are some major dependencies which are required for the NECO

Application to function efficiently, these requirement can are classified into two,

Application Requirements and System Requirements.

Application Requirement

The Application requirement are those requirements the NECO application

strongly depends on, in other to operates efficiently, failure to meet these

requirement may result to malfunctioning of the NECO application.

The Application requirement includes:

1. SAMS FINGERPRINT SCANNER

The NECO application is design to use the SAMS fingerprint scanner for

capturing candidate fingerprint in the application during registration.

NB: The NECO application does not recognize any other fingerprint scanner

device apart from SAMS.

• Image resolution is 480x320 pixel, 500 DPI

• Image format is 8 bit 256 grayscale

• Raw fingerprint image file size is 150K byte

• With Live Finger Detection (LFD) feature

• USB 2.0 compatible interface, plug and play device

• Lifetime up to 1 million scans

• Supply voltage: DC 4.5-5.5V via USB port

• With a 2M standard USB cable

• Small size, 45 x 63 x 26 mm

The system requirement are those requirement a computer system must meet

before for the NECO application can be install and work perfectly on the

computer system.

Specification

Here are the requirement a system should have for the application to work

efficiently on the Computer System

• Not Less than 2GB RAM (Random Access Memory)

• Not Less than 128 GB ROM (Read Only Memory) [hard disk memory]

• Not Less than 2.40 GHz processor.

Getting Started

The NECO Application is an educational solution application built

essentially to simplify the process of registering candidates based on

their examination centers across the nation effectively, while avoiding

mistakes that might occur due to improper candidate’s data collection

or inefficient data management. The application has some powerful

features which includes but not limited to:

Automated Subject Selection for Candidates: The system auto select

the compulsory subjects and allows user to select a specific number of

subjects for a candidate.

Auto Generation of Candidate Exam Card: the system has the ability

to generate all candidates exam cards just by click of a button and

allow user to print card or save as a PDF format.

Export and Import of Records: it allows a user to import an existing

records of candidates from a local disk and enable user to also export

candidates’ records from the application.

Generate Payment Base on Number of Candidates Registered: the

system has been automated to calculate the amount to be payed

based on number of candidates successfully registered.

Installation

The NECO application installer file contains two different setup files,

the installation depends on the operating system of the computer.

The users can install the NECO_SSCE_2020_x32 installer if they are

using the 32 bit operating system or NECO_SSCE_2020_x64 installer if

you are using the 64 bit operating system

Clicking on the any of the above mention installer, the installation

wizard for the application appears. User is required to click Next

button to continue with installation.

For the installation to continue, user is required to install SAMS finger

print scanner and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to enable the

application to run on the user computer.

On completion of the installation process, user is required to click the

Finish button to ensure the application has been successfully installed.

After a successful installation a shortcut icon is created, which can be

found on the desktop. Below is a snapshot of the NECO application

icon on desktop:

Lunching the application

Double click the application icon on the desktop to lunch the

application. When the application is lunched successfully a pop-up

page appear which requires a user to enter an examination center

number. If a user has entered any center number initially, an optional

dropdown would be displayed for the user to select one of centers. The

“Update Centers” button can be used to add new centers to the

centers available in the application. Below shows a snapshot of the

pop-up page.

Dashboard

Introduction

The dashboard is the first page that appear after a valid center number

is entered. Its layout provides an environment where all the

functionalities of the application can be access such as registering new

candidate, export/importing candidate records etc. Below is a

snapshot of the dashboard screen.

1. Top navigation bar: The top navigation bar contains two items:

i. The NECO logo

ii. Examination type and year.

2. Menu bar: the menu bar contains some navigation items which

include:

i. The center name and code

ii. Exam Center arrow button switch

iii. Dashboard

iv. Registration

v. Candidate biometric

vi. Candidate report

vii. Payment and upload

viii. Instruction

3. Action bar: these contains three main button which are:

The top navigation bar is the top most layer of the dashboard interface

which has a green background, it contains two main items;

i. NECO LOGO: This logo is an image found on the left most side of

the layer.

ii. EXAM TYPE and YEAR: the right most part of the navigation bar

shows the NECO examination type and the year.

The second layer after the top navigation bar is the menu bar (label

no.2) this layer contains eight (8) clickable item which are:

i. THE CENTER NAME AND CENTER CODE: the leftmost part of the

menu bar contains two main items one of them is the examination

center name and the center code of the exam center that was

entered after installation.

ii. EXAM CENTER ARROW BUTTON SWITCH: the other item on the left

most part of the menu bar is an arrow button switch which can be

used to switch to another center. When clicked, it pops up an

interface to enter a center code of the new center to be switched

to, below is the interface that pops up when the switch button is

clicked.

iii. DASHBOARD: The dashboard button is the first item on the right

side of the menu bar, it navigates back to the initial page of the

application when clicked.

iv. REGISTRATION: this button serves same function as item 3 section

iii (New Candidate Button)

v. CANDIDATE BIOMETRIC:

The biometric button is the third button on the left side of the menu

bar, when clicked, it navigates to an interface that allow a candidate

finger print to be captured. Below is the screenshot of candidate

biometric capture page.

The left section of the page show a search bar and the list of all

registered candidate whose fingerprint have not been captured.as

shown in the figure below.

To capture the finger print of a candidate, one of the user whose name

appears on the list would be selected.

On selecting a user from the list, the picture of the selected user

dispays, enabling the candidate fingerprint to be captured.

The two hand image indicates that all the 10 fingers are expected to

be captured, using the external fingerprint scanner, candidates fingers

can be captured when the “start” button is clicked, after every

successful finger capture, the dots changes color indicating that a

finger has been captured. This process is repeated for all the 10 fingers.

The “stop” button is used to terminate the process after completing

the process.

vi. CANDIDATE REPORT

The snapshot above shows four buttons for exporting candidate

information.

The “Export Validation List” button is used to export candidates’

records, to export records, a user would be required to select a

location where the records would be saved on the computer which

might subsequently be printed for registered candidates to verify and

append their signature against their records after validation.

The “Export Candidate Photo card” button is used for exporting

candidates’ photo cards, exporting photo cards requires same process

as exporting records but in this case the a pdf format of the candidate’s

examination information together with all the subject the candidate

registered.

The "Export Entry Schedules” button exports a pdf document which

contains a list of candidates and the number of subjects each candidate

registered.

The "Export Subject Analysis Form” button is use to export the a pdf

format of an analysis form which shows the number of candidate that

registered for each subject, this information is very important to

examination centers in various ways.

column (CA1, CA2 and CA3), CA3 is filled with respect to time, the

operator is expected to check for appropriate time to enter CA3.the

button allow a user to print candidates photo.

The above snapshot displays all the names of the registered

candidates. The search bar above the sidebar can be used to search for

a particular student name, the checkboxes above it can also be used to

filter out the kind of the list to be displayed on the sidebar (e.g.: to

display candidates whose biometric, subjects or passport have not

been uploaded, click on the incomplete capture checkbox)

Payment & upload

The payment & upload button is the 4th link on the menu bar. Clicking

on the link will pops up a page that require the operator’s login details

to access the payment dashboard.

Payment Dashboard

The payment dashboard appears after a valid operator login. The

dashboard has a button ‘check payment’ which prompts an operator

to click. Clicking on the button pops up a form which require the

administrative login details.

Vii. INSTRUCTION

In other to avoid mistakes when using this application to register

candidates, a clearly explained user instruction on how to use the

application has been provided to compliment the system

documentation. These instructions are highly recommended to all

users of this application especially new users, so as to ease and ensure

the right usage of the application. Failure to abide by these instructions

might lead to several mistakes.

3. ACTION BAR

The layer has three buttons as shown above.

I. Export button

The export button is used when a user wants to export the current

center. On clicking the button, the user will be asked to select the

directory to save the file to.

II. Import button

The import button is used when want to import a center into the

application. Just like the export button, clicking the import button will

require you to enter the directory of the file/center you want import.

III. New Candidate button

The New Candidate button is the third button of the action layer used

to register a new candidate.

The New Candidate button will take the user to a registration page to

input a candidate’s biodata. Once all inputs are entered, the user is

required to save.

Above the input fields is a progress bar that show the steps require for

a complete registration. The orange dot indicates the current stage or

progress. Once completed, the dot change color to green and is

marked done and the orange dot appears on step 2 to select subjects

and then to step 3. The side bar by the right shows all the names of

registered candidates. You can also search for a candidate name using

the search box right above the side bar.

The report layer is the fourth layer of the dashboard, it gives the

summarize information about the registration status of a candidates

that have registered.

i. Registration: The registration report bar indicates the number of

candidates registered.

ii. Completed: The completed capture bar shows the number of

candidates that has been captured.

iii. Uncompleted capture report bar: The Uncompleted capture bar

indicates the number of candidates that have not completed all the

steps of registration.

iv. Upload report bar: The upload report bar shows the number of

candidates uploaded.

v. Pending upload: The pending upload indicates the number of

candidates that have not been uploaded.

5. Filter layer

The filter is the fifth layer of the dashboard. It consists of five

checkboxes used for searching and filtering as explained below.

i. Search box: The search box is used to search a candidate that has

been register in the center.

ii. All: The All box is used to select all the registered candidates

weather they have complete registration or not, has been

uploaded or not.

iii. Completed: The completed checkbox is used when you want to

filter out only candidates with complete registration

iv. Incomplete: The incomplete checkbox will show only the

candidates that have not complete their registration.

v. Uploaded: The upload checkbox shows all candidates that has

been uploaded.

vi. Pending upload: The pending upload checkbox show a list of

candidates that are yet to be uploaded.

6. Candidate Table

The candidate is the sixth layer of the dashboard. It contains

information about all the candidate register. Information are

displayed based on the filter type enter. By default, it displays all the

student names.

7. Customer Support layer

The customer support layer is the last layer of the dashboard situated

at the bottom beneath the candidate table. It provides contact phone

number that users can use to seek support whenever they encounter

any challenge while using the application.
