This school was founded in 1959

It’s frequented by boys between 14 to 18 years, they studytechnical tourism, confectionery, cookery and barmaid andmarketing.

There are different ethnic groups among ourstudents give value to our school and to thedaily communication among young people.

This aspect has been enhanced by specificprojects of community interpreters andmediators which have been carried on for manyyears.

We have important international links with Russia andChina on behalf on the International Affairs Departmentat the Italian Ministry of Education.

Our students attend courses in the main modern foreignlanguages: English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese.As a result of this they are able to make use of andimprove their professional skills not only in Italian but alsoin foreign companies.

Relationships with enterprises and the social economiccontext are essential in our education strategy.

ACTIONS 4 GOOD AT STRINGHER

BLOOD DONATION (BY MANUEL)• For 27 years students and staff at Stringher have been donating blood.

• Blood donation is a voluntary action that every citizen, having 18 years and possessing certain characteristics, can do.

• It's a free act, without compensation, and every donation can help, in case of necessity, to save a life.

• In the human body, on average , there are about 6 liters of blood. During a donation are picked up approximately 400/450 ml. For a major operation it takes about 50/60 bags , or an equal number of donations.

• The amount of blood drawn , is automatically regenerated by the body , in a day or so. Drinking lots of water contributes to this process

• The abuse of alcohol or drugs and drug use drastically reduces the possibilities of giving , for this reason , before each donation , a small amount of blood is tested , to see if the blood is pure and healthy.

• Eighteen-year-old and older students, as well as teachers and other school staff have the opportunity to donate at a medical facility , which, at the end of the process, issues a certificate that will be delivered to the school, for the award of college credit to the student-donor.

• The responsible of blood donation, within the high school "B. Stringher" is our Economics teacher Elio Varutti.

ARRIVO PRIMA IO! LILT RELAY RACE FOR CANCER PREVENTION ( BY ALAN)

• The Institute B.Stringher for 5 years has proposed a contest to make young people aware of the importance of cancer prevention.

• The race is called 4x1000, and is one big relay race, where schools run for prevention and Stringher isthe "leader". It is called “Arrivo prima io!” (I come first).

• The race this year will be held on April 9, 2016 and will be supported by the Italian league againstcancer (Lega Italiana Lotta contro i Tumori, LILT) section of Udine and many other associations that willhelp in the organization of the race. Our Physical Education teacher Paola Barbanti also makes use of the volunteer help of many students in classes 3 ^ -4 ^ -5 ^ of the participating schools. Meetings with LILT responsibles are also scheduled.

• Since an early age people must begin to be aware of the importance of prevention because preventionis life!

Giulio Regeni was a Cambridge PhD student, born

in Fiumicello, 40 km from Udine. He was doing field

research in Egypt. Last January he disappeard; one

week later, his tortured body was found in a ditch.

Class 3^A joined the campaign "Verità per Giulio

Regeni" by Amnesty International Italy.

Students of class 3^A from Stringher were in Assisi

for the annual Peace March. They are somewhere

behind the sign about Giulio Regeni, while their

accompanying teacher is sitting to the right of it, in

Saint Francis Cathedral. Great experience, the class

presented their project on the meaning of solidarity

reporting the experience of their families during the

earthquake in our region of 40 years ago.

OUR ACTIONS

TITLE: LILT RACE

In our region there is a great sensitivity about deterrence of the tumors, that affect people of different ages.

We decided to partecipate to "LILT Race" (LILT is an acronym for " Lega Italiana per la lotta contro i tumori",

Italian League against cancer) as athletes (five students and two teachers - English and Physical

Education) and as a race assistants (one student).

Our school organized the race for all city schools.The race took place on 9 April at "Parco del Cormor", a city

park near our school; 400 people - students and teachers - ran for prevention.

The race consists in a relay 4x1000 in which various teams take part to remember that keeping fit is an

important way of preventing cancer.

The race is organized to sensitize and inform students on prevention of cancer; in schools are also held

experts talks.

TITLE: FOR BETTER RECYCLING AT SCHOOL

In the corridors of our school there are containers for separate collection of waste for recycling (paper, plastic,

unsorted waste). In most villages or cities where students live, separate collection of waste has already been

implemented for several years. However, at school, often litter is not thrown in the right container. In order to

improve the collection for recycling by the students and the school staff, our class will prepare posters, signs

etc that will be put near the containers. We will take pictures of the containers before and after our action to

monitor the efficacy of our signs.

TITLE: CIVIL DEFENCE VOLUNTEERING

Forty years ago, on 6th May 1976, our region was hit by a disastrous earthquake. During the organization for

rescue the first form of civil defence was established. Now Civil Defence (Protezione Civile) is an institution

dedicated to the interventions and aid in case of natural events in Italy and abroad, both with its specialized

staff and a network of volunteers in the territory. On April 12th 2016 we organized in our school an informational

event open to other classes to know and to spread the culture of civil volunteering. Mr.Giorgio Visintini talked

about the origins of the organisation and inspired students to experience some Civil Defence activities during

Summer Camps, held every year and open to all young people interested in becoming volunteers on the

territory.
