4 CENTRO UPDATE MARCH 2017 Volume 1 No. 3 CongratulaƟons to Dr. Domenico Di Curzio Dr. Domenico (Dom) Luciano Di Curzio was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a first-generaƟon Canadian by Italian parents. He is currently compleƟng a postdoctoral fel- lowship with the Department of Pathology at the University of Manitoba examining the neurological condiƟon hydrocephalus and de- termining potenƟal supplemental treatments for this condiƟon. Before acquiring this posi- Ɵon, his academic background has been en- riching and varied. His Bachelor of Arts Hon- ours in Psychology degree from the University of Winnipeg in June of 2006, was followed by a Master of Science in Neuroscience at the University of BriƟsh Columbia in Vancouver, BC in November 2009. Upon returning home to Winnipeg, he completed his Ph. D. in October 2016 at the University of Manitoba in Human Anatomy & Cell Science with a focus on Neuropathology. Over his academic experience, Dr. Di Curzio received numerous awards and hon- ours; as well, he has authored 9 research publicaƟons to date through neuroscience re- search and collaboraƟon. He received 3 Academic Proficiency Scholarships at the U of W and he was a co-recipient of the Robert (Bob) B. Brennan Bursary in June 2005. He has received various Travel Awards/Grants during his Ph. D. program. He has twice been a recipient of Manitoba Health Research Council (currently Research Manitoba) Graduate Studentships and he was awarded the Ralph A. Mann Award in the Depart- ment of Human Anatomy & Cell Science in January 2014. Lastly, he earned the Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship of Excellence in Spring of 2015. During this academic experience, he has avidly enjoyed the arts, especially a vari- ety of musical genres. Although he is not rooted in the operaƟc scene, he has enjoyed his exposure through past Evening of Light Opera events. Thus, he is graciously honoured to be celebrated for his academic achievements at the upcoming 19 th annual Evening of Light Opera which will take place on Friday, March 24 th , at the Caboto Centre where guests will enjoy a delicious 5-course Italian meal and live performances by U of M School of Music operaƟc singers, as well as the Viva l’Italia Choir. Dr. Di Curzio has idenƟfied the Magnus Eliason RecreaƟon Centre Youth Music Program as the beneficiary of a donaƟon by the Italian Canadian FoundaƟon of Manitoba Inc. which will be presented at the March 24 th event.
