Greetings from Singapore! It is our pleasure to welcome you to participate in the 14th ASEAN Paediatric Congress and the 3rd ASIAN Paediatric Otolaryngology Meeting. It will be held in Singapore from 14–17 April 2011 in Singapore.

About Singapore

Located right in the heart of Asia, Singapore thrives as an international financial and trading hub. Its reputed efficiency, skilled workforce, strong trade agreements, excellent infrastructure, extensive and high-growth networking base make Singapore a compelling destination for business and conventions. Looking further beneath Singapore’s business legacy and you will find a rich social fabric that is vibrant, colourful and unique in many ways.

Singapore is a city of contrast. It is East and West. It is where the ideas of the future mingle with the ways of tradition. Where one can enjoy breakfast with orangutans at the famed Singapore Zoo, another can groove to a different beat in the company of party animals.

Find out more about "What you can do in Singapore" at www.visitsingapore.com.

Climate

The island is warm and has humidity all year round with an average temperature of maximum 32°C and minimum of 23°C.The average temperature in April is between 24°C to 31°C. Most indoor facilities are fitted with air-conditioning; a light jacket for gentlemen or shawl for ladies is recommended.

Tipping is not practised as most hotels and restaurants in Singapore already levy a 10% service charge on customers' bills. Tipping is not a way of life in Singapore and is prohibited at the airport.

Electricity

Singapore voltage is 220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. On request, most hotels will provide transformers to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage, such as 110-120 volts, 60 cycles per second. When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country. The power plugs used in Singapore are of the three-pin, square-shaped type.

Time Zone

Singapore is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (+8GMT).

Trade Exhibition

A trade exhibition will be held in conjunction with the Congress from 15 – 17 April 2011.
