Hal le- lu- jah!- Give thanks to the Lord!
Reader: A Reading from the Book of Numbers. Please be seated
From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom;
but the people became impatient on the way. The people spoke against God and against
Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is
no food and no water, and we detest this miserable food." Then the Lord sent poisonous
serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many Israelites died. The
people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and
against you; pray to the Lord to take away the serpents from us." So Moses prayed for the
people. And the Lord said to Moses, "Make a poisonous serpent, and set it on a pole; and
everyone who is bitten shall look at it and live." So Moses made a serpent of bronze, and
put it upon a pole; and whenever a serpent bit someone, that person would look at the
serpent of bronze and live.

People: Thanks be to God. A moment of silence is observed
Psalm 107 Please remain seated
Cantor: Hallelujah! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly
of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the deeds of the Lord! they are
studied by all who delight in them. His work is full of majesty and splendour,
and his righteousness endures for ever. Refrain
Cantor: He makes his marvellous works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and full
of compassion. He gives food to those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his
covenant. He has shown his people the power of his works in giving them the
lands of the nations. Refrain
Cantor: The works of his hands are faithfulness and justice; all his commandments are
sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, because they are done in truth and
equity. He sent redemption to his people; he commanded his covenant for ever;
holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of
wisdom; those who act accordingly have a good understanding; his praise
endures for ever. Refrain

Reader: A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians. Please be seated
You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the
course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at
work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived among them in the passions
of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of
wrath, like everyone else. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which
he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with
Christ - by grace you have been saved - and raised us up with him and seated us with him
in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the
immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you
have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not
the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepare beforehand to be our way of life.

The Gospel
Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.
Leader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
People:
Jesus said, "Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man
be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the
world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but
may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the
world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who believe in him
are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they
have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgement, that the
light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their
deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that
their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it
may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God."

Sermon Please be seated
The Nicene Creed Please stand
Leader: Let us confess our faith as we say,
All: We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light
from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with
the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our
salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he
became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake
he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he
ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
Hear us, O Lord, have mer cy- up on- us: for we have sin ned- a gainst- thee.
All: He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his
kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the
giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he
is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We
believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one
baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the
dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Offertory Sentence All sing
Priest: God of mercy and compassion, your Word calls us home to faith and love.
Accept all we offer you this day, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. All: Amen.
Priest: It is indeed right that we should praise you, gracious God, for you created all
things. You formed us in your own image: male and female you created us.
When we turned away from you in sin, you did not cease to care for us, but
opened a path of salvation for all people. You made a covenant with Israel, and
through your servants Abraham and Sarah gave the promise of a blessing to all
nations. Through Moses and Miriam you led your people from bondage into
freedom; through the prophets you renewed your promise of salvation.
Therefore, with them, and with all your saints who have served you in every
age, we give thanks and raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.
Sanctus All sing
Please kneel or be seated
Priest: Holy God, source of life and goodness, all creation rightly gives you praise. In the fullness of time, you sent your Son Jesus Christ, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Creator of all. He healed the sick and ate and drank with outcasts and sinners; he opened the eyes of the blind and proclaimed the good news of your kingdom to the poor and to those in need. In all things he fulfilled your gracious will. On the night he freely gave himself to death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: this is my body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Gracious God, his perfect sacrifice destroys the power of sin and death; by raising him to life you give us life for evermore. Therefore we proclaim our hope.
All: Dying you destroyed our death, rising you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory.
Priest: Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you, Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body and one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever.
All: Amen.
