Wolzen Sharon Wolzen Sharon Wolzen, 68, of Oxford, Neb., a sister-in-law of Elton O’- Hare of Oberlin, died April 23, 2007, at the Phelps Memo- rial Health Cen- ter in Holdrege, Neb. She was born July 13, 1938, in Red Willow County near Lebanon, Neb., the youngest of six children of Francis and Elsie Alfreda (Gay) McCashland. She attended school at Lebanon and graduated from Leba- non High School in 1956. She married Charles Wolzen at McCook. They made their home in Oxford, where she was employed as a bookkeeper for several businesses and later worked at Becton-Dick- inson in Holdrege, Neb., from 1975 until her retirement in 2000. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oxford. Survivors include two brothers- in-law, Lawrence Orvis, McCook, and Elton O’Hare, Oberlin; and a special friend, Don Ekberg, Hold- rege. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Francis Charles; five sisters, Betty Jo and George Orvis; Glenva Orvis, Mildred O’Hare, Vada and Sam Huntsman, and Donna and Rod Hardin. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Oxford with Pastor Dave Hunt officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hendley Cemetery at Hend- ley, Neb. Mary Maxine Wudtke Mary Maxine Wudtke, 81, a 1943 graduate of Jennings High School, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton. She was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Allison, the daughter of Raymond and Regina (Austerman) Slipke. After graduating from Jennings High School, she taught school a few years, then went to cosmetology school in Topeka. The couple moved to Leech Lake, Minn., in 1967, where they owned and operated a resort. Later they spent their winters in Broomfield, Colo., and summers at Lake Mc- Conaughy, near Ogallala, Neb. They also lived in Oberlin. Survivors include three daugh- ters, Patricia Schwab and family, Norcatur; Peggy Glenn and family, and Paula Maloney and family, Northglenn, Colo.; seven grandchil- dren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Norton Frickey, Denver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; a son, John LeDon Huff; a grandson, Joseph Schwab; her parents; and six broth- ers and two sisters. POLICE BLOTTER The Oberlin City police depart- ment worked these calls: • At 1:21 a.m. Sunday Officer Troy Haas investigated a phone complaint about a domestic dispute in the 100 block of S. Elk. Officer Haas arrested Elton Gillespie Jr., 49, for violation of a protection from abuse order, criminal trespass and domestic battery. He was taken to the Decatur County Jail. • Around 10:18 p.m. Saturday, Paula Corcoran, 42, was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup north on Rode- haver when she slowed down for the stop sign at the intersection of Maple Street but did not stop. She ran into a 1998 Ford Windstar van driven by Vickie Huntley, 38. Mrs. Corcoran received a ticket for failure to yield. There was damage to both vehicles. • At 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Kevin Unger, 44, driving a 2002 Chevy pickup, backed into a 1997 Chevy Lumina van in the parking lot at Stellar Sales. There was no ticket given as the accident was on private property, said Chief Wade Lock- hart. He said there was damage to both vehicles. • At 5:34 p.m., Jonathon K. Cress- ler, 31, stopped his 1988 Dodge pickup at the U.S, 83-U.S. 36 inter- section. Mr. Cressler, who was southbound at the intersection, told police he saw a wide turning semi truck coming off U.S. 36 towards him and backed up into a 1997 Dodge Intrepid driven by Ken Shobe, 55. There was over $1,000 in damage to Mr. Shobe’s truck. Chief Lockhart said he hadn’t de- cided about a ticket. • In the early morning last Sunday, someone ran into a wood chipper belonging to Chance Indermuhle in the west parking lot at Crossroads Express. The driver didn’t report the accident. • At 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, Steve Carlton, 58, driving a 2003 Chevy pickup and hauling a trailer north bound on S. East Av- enue, backed into the front bumper of a pickup belonging to Henry Euhus parked on the street. Mr. Carlton didn’t receive a ticket. Sheep dog trials set The annual Cottonwood Ranch Sheep Dog Trials will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. until midafternoon on Sunday at the historic site along U.S. 24 near Studley. The free event is co-sponsored by the Kansas Historical Society, the Friends of Cottonwood Ranch, and the American Border Collie Asso- ciation. The Kansas Sheep Council will hold a small Sheep Fest for ex- hibiting various breeds and tell about the importance of sheep in the 21st century. Spinners will be present to demonstrate and discuss their crafts. The trials are a judged and timed event sanctioned by the American Border Collie Association. Specta- tors can watch from bleachers or lawn chairs. Lunch and refresh- ments will be available. She ran intoa 1998 Ford Windstar van driven byVickie Huntley, 38. Mrs. Corcoranreceived a ticket for failure to yield.There was damage to both vehicles.

• At 5:50 p.m. Thursday, KevinUnger, 44, driving a 2002 Chevy

pickup, backed into a 1997 ChevyLumina van in the parking lot atStellar Sales. There was no ticketgiven as the accident was on privateproperty, said Chief Wade Lock-hart. He said there was damage toboth vehicles.

• At 5:34 p.m., Jonathon K. Cress-ler, 31, stopped his 1988 Dodgepickup at the U.S, 83-U.S. 36 inter-section. Mr. Cressler, who wassouthbound at the intersection, toldpolice he saw a wide turning semitruck coming off U.S. 36 towardshim and backed up into a 1997Dodge Intrepid driven by KenShobe, 55. There was over $1,000in damage to Mr. Shobe’s truck.Chief Lockhart said he hadn’t de-cided about a ticket.

• In the early morning last Sunday,someone ran into a wood chipperbelonging to Chance Indermuhle inthe west parking lot at CrossroadsExpress. The driver didn’t report theaccident.

• At 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday,April 18, Steve Carlton, 58, drivinga 2003 Chevy pickup and hauling atrailer north bound on S. East Av-enue, backed into the front bumperof a pickup belonging to HenryEuhus parked on the street. Mr.Carlton didn’t receive a ticket.

Sheep dog trials setThe annual Cottonwood Ranch

Sheep Dog Trials will be held from8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday andfrom 8 a.m. until midafternoon onSunday at the historic site along U.S.24 near Studley.

The free event is co-sponsored bythe Kansas Historical Society, theFriends of Cottonwood Ranch, andthe American Border Collie Asso-ciation. The Kansas Sheep Councilwill hold a small Sheep Fest for ex-hibiting various breeds and tell

about the importance of sheep in the21st century. Spinners will bepresent to demonstrate and discusstheir crafts.

The trials are a judged and timedevent sanctioned by the AmericanBorder Collie Association. Specta-tors can watch from bleachers orlawn chairs. Lunch and refresh-ments will be available.

Two concerts set in ColbyThe Colby Community College

music department has scheduledtwo spring events, a vocal musicconcert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in theNorthwest Kansas Cultural ArtsCenter and an instrumental concertat 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The vocal concert will include the

concert choir and Sunflower Sing-ers under vocal music director Dr.Phillip Shuman and accompaniedby Pat Ziegelmeier.

The concert band will performunder the direction of BradleyHerndon. There is no admissioncharge.

Warm and mild temperatures will continue along with the chances for thunderstorms and severe weather into May. The temperatures will be a bit above normal, but the storms are common in May and June on the High Plains.
