May 10, 2020 Fifth Sunday of Easter Dear Friends in Christ,

A Blessed Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms, what a gift you all are! God bless all our moms who are physically with us and for our moms looking down on us from heaven. We celebrate all of you, our birth moms and all those who fulfill the role of ‘mom’ in so many ways. Although families may not be physically together this year to celebrate, this day that we honor you all is NOT cancelled. To all of you who are mothers in any capacity, may God continue to bless your vocation of Mother to your Children.

Mother’s Day weekend has extra meaning to me. Tuesday, May 11th I will celebrate the twenty-ninth Anniversary of my Ordination to the Priesthood. It was on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1991, the day after my ordination, that I celebrated my ‘First Mass’. On behalf of your children, THANK YOU for all that you do, continue to do, and have done. May all our mothers be greatly blessed as they continue to follow the example of Mary, the mother of us all.

With the nicer weather upon us and more people are out walking, still aware of social distancing, if you happen to be walking on East Main Street, please take note of our beautifully cleaned statue of Mary. So many years half covered with overgrown greenery, the dirt, grime, and algae/moss are no more. As our nation reconsented herself to Mary, Mother of the Church, let us in a deep spiritual way, rededicate ourselves to our patroness, Mary of the Immaculate Conception.

Sadly, yesterday, May 9th, we should have celebrated our Second Graders reception of their First Holy Communion. Today, they would have hosted our Family Mass and then as a class, crown our Blessed Mother. Let us show our love to the Second Graders by saying a special prayer for them today. In the Fall, God willing, they will celebrate that special day when they come to know Christ and feel the strength of his physical presence, body, soul, and divinity by way of the Most Holy Eucharist.

We pray too for all our children and young parishioners who know by now they will not be returning to school for the rest of this Academic Year. We especially remember those in Eighth Grade, Seniors in High School and College Graduates who will not share in the traditional joy of a formal Graduation Ceremony. Even without that ceremony, please know that I, your families and all our parishioners celebrate the great accomplishment you each have achieved! In the month of June, I will Live Stream a special mass on our parish Facebook page to pray for, celebrate, and honor all our graduates this year.

As I mentioned above about the postponement of the reception of First Holy Communion, and obviously in three weeks, the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation upon our Eighth Graders, the Archdiocese has policies that I have and continue to follow. At this time, no dates can be given for their re-scheduled sacraments. Even the registration for the coming year of Religious Instruction is presently on hold until we have a better idea of exactly when we see our Public Masses and Parish Activities start up again. It would not be fair to set dates, only to have them cancelled again. I am praying that very soon we will be able to go forward with our parish activities and most importantly, physically gathering again as a family of faith celebrating mass together.

Because of your continuing generosity during this time, last Sunday’s collection was $5,436.00. Another $685.oo was received for Easter, bringing that collection now to $21,369.00, May God bless those of you who are able to continue with your financial support to Immaculate.

Easter, the promise of Eternal Life and not death prevails! As this Easter Season continues, we journey now to the Ascension of our Lord and the Feast of Pentecost, the birth of the Church. May God continue to bless us with his Mercy!

“Our Faith in Action” Honoring Our Blessed Virgin Mary during the month of May: Parents please continue to prepare and complete the following May Devotions with your children as included in last week’s bulletin and email: May Crowning, Praying the Rosary (Come Pray the Rosary-YouTube if you need help), Act of Consecration to Our Blessed Mother, Sacrifices completed in Her honor, and Remembering the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima below. Remembering Our Lady of Fatima Feast Day on Wednesday, May 13th: Our Lady chose three simple children to speak to - Lucia dos Santos, age 9 and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto, ages 6 and 7. On May 13th, 1917 The Virgin Mary appeared to the children and told them, “I am from Heaven.” “Come for six consecutive months, on the 13th day, at this same hour I will tell you later who I am and what I want you to do.” “Say the Rosary every day to bring peace to the world and the end of the war”. On June 13th a small crowd waited with the children. Our Lady said to add the prayer to the end of each decade of the Rosary, “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy”. On July 13th, Our Lady revealed three secrets to the children. The first secret was a vision of hell. The second secret was the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to save souls and bring peace to the world. Our Lady explained, “You have seen hell, where the souls of sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do as I shall ask, many souls will be converted and there will be peace…In the end my Immaculate Heart shall triumph.” The third secret was disclosure by Pope John Paul II who credited the Virgin Mary of Fatima with saving his life. His motto became: “Totus Tuus” – “Totally Yours” referring to his total entrust to Our Lady. On August 13th the children were imprisoned so that they would deny their testimonies. They did not. They were released from prison on August 19th and Our Lady appeared to the children in a different pasture and asked them to, “Pray, pray very much and make sacrifices for sinners: For many souls go to hell because there is no one to pray for them.” On September 13th White rose petals fell from the sky and then disappeared before touching the ground. Lucia asked Our Lady to cure the sick. Our Lady replied, “Some will be cured, but not all because Our Lord has no confidence in them.” On October 13th 30,000–100,000 people appeared at the Cova including atheists, photographers/reporters. Our Lady appeared to the three children and as She promised She said, “I am the Lady of the Rosary: People must amend their lives, ask forgiveness for their sins and not offend Our Lord any more for He is already too much offended.” As Our Lady left, the crowd of people saw “the Miracle of the Sun.” The rain stopped and the sun emerged spinning for 10 minutes making incredible movements outside all cosmic laws (zig-zag movements). The wet clothes of the people and the ground became dry. The three children witnessed a vision of the Holy Family and of Our Lord as a grown man. Lucia also witnessed Mary as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. 1919 and 1920 (respectively) Francisco and Jacinta died during the Influenza Epidemic. On May 13th, 2017 Jacinta and Francisco were canonized saints. On February 13th, 2017, Sister Lucia was accorded the title Servant of God, as the first major step toward her canonization. The three shepherd children always said “Yes” to Our Lady. Today we face challenging times, and we need Our Blessed Mother in our lives more than ever. May we call upon her protection and say “Yes – Totally Yours” - today and everyday - entrusting ourselves to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart and daily praying the Rosary.

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most

Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my

heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to

be separated from You. Amen.
