Ogni nuova collezione nasce da un’ispirazione, un desi-derio, una passione.

Ogni inizio è una sfi da: signifi ca prima di tutto confrontarsicon se stessi e il proprio passato, con la propria capacità pro-duttiva, per poi misurarsi con le nuove competenze che il design richiede. Fondamentale sempre, è cercare un’evolu-zione, esplorare nuove forme e concetti inediti, senza perderele proprie radici. Osservare la stessa cosa con occhi diversi è novità, e la novità è creazione, fermento, movimento.

Questi i concetti che abbiamo elaborato nell’anno del nostro decimo anniversario. In questi anni abbiamo matu-rato una conoscenza profonda del materiale che sta alla base del nostro lavoro, la ‘pelle’, abbiamo affi nato le tec-niche produttive rendendole effi cienti e adattabili alle nu-merose personalizzazioni richieste dai nostri clienti. Forti di questo know how, abbiamo accettato una doppia sfi da: da un lato, noi di Studioart, abbiamo voluto partire da forme esistenti per esplorare nuove combinazioni, dall’altro, ab-biamo voluto affi dare la reinterpretazione del nostro rive-stimento murale a giovani designer emergenti.

La diversità di background e il diverso approccio al design di prodotto sono ben visibili nella varietà delle collezioni svi-luppate e le tre interpretazioni dimostrano come il rivesti-mento murale in pelle possa essere valorizzato in modi ete-rogenei, ricchi di personalità, mai scontati. Ogni collezione è stata ambientata in interni diversi, che ne rispettano ed esaltano lo stile: una casa moderna e architetturale per le proposte Studioart, a fi rma di Massimo Brancati, terza gene-razione della famiglia, interni neo borghesi per le forme pure dai colori pastello di Giorgia Zanellato, un loft industriale total white per esaltare il design e le cromie eclettiche diElaine Yan Ling Ng/The Fabrick Lab.

Questo anniversario celebra il nostro prodotto di punta, il Leatherwall, un prodotto innovativo dallo spiccato spirito camaleontico e senza tempo, capace di reinventarsi a secon-da dei contesti, dello stile, del gusto individuale.

Non solo... The Anniversary Collection è la testimonianza dei successi raggiunti con anni di ricerca e studio, delle dif-fi coltà incontrate sul nostro percorso, che ci hanno messo a dura prova ma hanno anche spronato a fare di più e meglio, del sostegno sempre presente della mia famiglia, della fi ducia dei nostri clienti, dei collaboratori e partner che hanno dato il massimo per portare Studioart dove è oggi.

Every collection is conceived from inspiration, a wish, or a passion.

Every beginning is a challenge. It means to confront oneself with your past decisions, your resources and to measure these against new skills that any new design demands. Seeking to evolve and explore new shapes and fresh ideas, without losing your own roots, is always crucial. Watching the same thing with a different perspective is innovation and innovation is creation, movement, and change.

These are the concepts we have developed on our 10th anni-versary. During the years we have deepened our knowledge in leather and improved our production skills to make them more effi cient and fl exible to the demands for customisation of our clients. Backed by this knowledge, we have accepted a double challenge: from one side, we, as Studioart, have deci-ded to begin from existing shapes to explore new combina-tions and, on the other side, we have asked young emerging designers to reinterpret our Leatherwall.

The different background and creative approach to the product design are visible in the multiple options offered by the new collections - in particular, these three interpretations show how versatile the leather wall covering can be.

Each collection was set in different interiors to enhance the various styles: a modern and architectural house for Studioartproducts designed by Massimo Brancati, third generation of the family; a neo-bourgeois interior for the simple pastel shapes of Giorgia Zanellato, and a white industrial loft toprovide a contrast to the design and eclectic colours ofElaine Yan Ling Ng/The Fabrick Lab.

This anniversary celebrates our core product, Leatherwall: an innovative design with a chameleon-like attitude, which is able to conform to different interiors, styles, and personal tastes.

But it does not end here... The Anniversary Collection is proof of the success achieved with years of research and dedica-tion; the challenges encountered which drove us to improve; the constant support from my family; the trust our clients demonstrate, and last but not least, the commitment of em-ployees and partners that have always given their best to lead Studioart to where it is today.

Quali sono stati gli spunti più rilevanti nella creazione della collezione?

Il punto di partenza è stato il desiderio di approfon-dire alcuni aspetti del nostro lavoro: l’esplorazione della tridimensionalità delle superfi ci, l’ottimizzazione delle risorse produttive, l’elaborazione del concetto di casualità apparente, intesa come irregolarità. Pur ri-manendo in linea con l’identità di Studioart sviluppata nei suoi primi dieci anni di vita, l’intenzione era segnare un punto di svolta, un’evoluzione, un’innovazione, sia formale che tecnica.

Come avete tradotto tutto ciò nella collezione?

Con Kaleido abbiamo voluto riutilizzare in maniera diversa e nuova due sagome già presenti nella nostra collezione: il quadrato e il triangolo. Il risultato è un prodotto dalle declinazioni inedite, come la varian-te decorativa che si sviluppa concentricamente e dà vita a un’interpretazione del rivestimento Studioart mai considerata prima. Frammenti ricerca l’irregola-rità con un pattern apparentemente casuale in cui la modularità è riconducibile a sei forme diverse. Woods introduce una nuova tridimensionalità alla piastrella, che è insieme piana e bombata e prende ispirazione dalle doghe di legno.

Il know-how sul materiale ‘pelle’ e le sue lavora-zioni è il nostro valore aggiunto e il nostro elemento distintivo. Per questa nuova collezione abbiamo se-lezionato pelli specifi che per ogni prodotto al fi ne di valorizzarne al massimo il design e la tridimensionalità,rendendo ancora più materiche le superfi ci.

What were your main starting points for designing the new collection?

Our starting point was the desire to focus on the specifi c features of our work: exploring the three-di-mensionality of surfaces, optimising our production resources, and developing the concept of seeming ran-domness and irregularity in design. Without drifting from our path, we wanted this project to mark a turningpoint for Studioart and bring a tangible innovation.

How have you translated these aspects into your design?

In Kaleido we wanted to use two existing Studioart shapes, the square and the triangle, in a new and dif-ferent way. The fi nished product offers unique varia-tions, such as the decorative concentric solution and a new interpretation of Studioart leather wall covering that has never been done before. Frammenti shows irregularity through an apparently random pattern made of six different shapes. Woods introduces a new three-dimensionality to the leather tile, which is pad-ded and fl at at the same time and it gets its inspira-tion from wood staves.

Studioart is..?

The knowledge and craftsmanship to produce leatherat the highest level for use in interiors is our distinctivefeature. For this new collection we have specifi cally matched the leathers to each product to enhance its design and three-dimensionality, giving an even grea-ter tactility of the surfaces.

Come è nata la tua collezione per Studioart?

La realtà di Studioart mi ha molto affascinato per l’originalità del prodotto e l’alto livello artigia-nale, punto di partenza per lo sviluppo della mia collezione. Ho cercato di esplorare diversi aspetti dell’azienda: dalla passione e pazienza di chi si dedi-ca alla realizzazione manuale dei prodotti, alla vogliae determinazione costante di trovare tecniche nuoveper migliorarsi.

Artigianalità e innovazione. Come comunicarle?

Dalla passione artigianale nasce Onda, dove le cuciture corrono libere all’interno della piastrellabombata. La voglia di scoperta è stata invece rag-giunta con Semitondo e con Ginko, dove nuovi saperi hanno permesso di unire in uno stesso ele-mento una sezione piana ed una bombata. Infi ne ho deciso di esaltare la vastissima gamma di pelli e colori presente a catalogo pensando ad una formamolto semplice che potesse sfruttare al meglio queste combinazioni: il rombo, da cui nasce Losange.

Il tuo design recupera forme semplici. Cosa ti ha ispirato?

Semitondo rispecchia il mio amore per le forme geometriche, in particolare per i cerchi. Grafi camente,anche Onda trae spunto dal cerchio. Restando in ambito di geometrie, il rombo è di per sé una forma che consente infi nite variazioni date da disposizione ed accostamento colore diversi. Con Ginko ho voluto avvicinarmi alla natura riproponendo una foglia ico-nica dai connotati positivi.

How did you conceive your collection for Studioart?

Studioart really fascinated me for the uniqueness of its products and the highly specialised craftsman-ship, which was the starting point for creating my collection. I have explored various perspectives of the company: from the passion and patience of Studioart craftsmen to the dedication to explore new techniques for continuous improvement.

Craftsmanship and innovation. How did you convey this into your collection?

The artisanal know-how and dedication have been inspirational for conceiving Onda, where the stitching fl ows on the padded surface of the leather tile. Semi-tondo and Ginko represent the willingness to explore and experiment new techniques thanks to new skills that made it possible to create a tile both padded and fl at. I then chose the rhombus, a very simple but yet fl exible shape, to enhance the great choice of colours and tex-tures of Studioart leathers: this is the origin of Losange.

Your design plays with simple forms. What has inspired you?

Semitondo refl ects my passion for geometric shapes, especially for circles. From a graphic point of view, also the stitched designs of Onda make reference to the hint of a circle. The rhombus is in itself a versatile shape that can generate infi nite patterns, while Ginko presents an iconic leaf that bears an aura of positive meaning.

Cosa ti ha ispirato nella creazione della collezione per Studioart?

Sono partita dalla topologia della natura, lo studiodello spazio e delle sue interconnessioni. Il design della collezione si ispira alla capacità della naturadi moltiplicarsi e combinarsi spontaneamente at-traverso formule matematiche complesse. Questoconcetto rispecchia anche il DNA di Studioart, dove nel processo di lavorazione convivono una compo-nente naturale e una di progettazione e ingegneria matematica.

Qual è stato il tuo punto di partenza?

Tutto è iniziato dalla volontà di portare forme naturali negli interni, creare una nuova ‘esperienza immersiva’ attraverso volumi, matericità e illusio-ne. Ho studiato i pattern ripetibili che si trovano in natura e ho cercato di riprodurli attraverso nuove sagome e nuove tecniche. Il risultato è una collezio-ne eterogenea, che si ispira fortemente alla natura e testimonia la connessione natura, matematica e calcolo.

Il legame tra natura, design e matematica, un concetto affascinante su cui basare un progetto...

Hyperreal, Delta, Vector e Parallel... anche i nomi dei prodotti prendono spunto da concetti matema-tici. Esplorano concetti diversi ma interrelati, come l’infi nito, il cambiamento, lo spazio e la ripetizione.

What has inspired you for designing your collection for Studioart?

Nature Topology is the concept that guides the entire collection. Topology, from the Greek tópos, pla-ce, and lógos, study, refers to the study of space and its interconnections. The design of the collection gets its inspiration by how nature can cleverly multiply and arrange in the most compact and effi cient ways using complex mathematical formulas. This concept also highlights Studioart’s DNA, where production pro-cesses are made of both natural and mathematically engineered procedures.

What was your starting point?

It all started with the aim of bringing outdoor naturalforms into interiors, and creating a new immersive special experience through volume, tactility and illu-sion. I studied the repetitive patterns found in nature, and recreated them through new shapes and techni-ques: the result is a varied collection featuring nature and its connection with mathematics and calculation.
