Everyday Stewardship I often tell people that perhaps my favorite author on stew-ardship is usually not thought of as a stewardship writer at all: Catherine Doherty. She was like a Russian-Canadian Dorothy Day, starting the Madonna House Apostolate of lay men and women and clergy who work with and live with the poor. Doherty wrote about a spiritual life where God permeates our everyday lives. Of course, this resonates with me and my writing about everyday stewardship spiritu-ality. She wrote, "Yes, stewardship pertains to everything, and I am responsible for my part of that everything." This sense of responsibility for our own little slice of God's universe is so very important in an imperfect reality of human life. The consequence of not taking care of our little "part of that everything" is that those who could have heard or witnessed the good news of Jesus Christ might not get that chance. We are created so uniquely, it is folly to always assume that someone else can take care of things if we choose to bow out. We sometimes even fall into a trap where we say, "It is God who touches people's hearts, not me," because it may very well be that God's plan was to touch them through YOU. There are many implications of Paul's use of body imagery in his First Letter to the Corinthians. Yes, the body of Christ has many parts and they are all unique. All of us baptized into his body have been called to be an active part in that body. But if we choose to neglect our role or we don't feel responsible to be the best member of that body we can be, the body cannot function as it needs to. Good stewardship spirituality sees all the gifts in that body as precious. For our important role, we are called to grow and cultivate our part of that body. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Each year from January 18-25, many Christian denomina-tions will celebrate a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This week used to be called Christian Unity Octave. The word "octave," meaning eight days, denotes a Christian

week. Since the early part of the last century, the week has been taken up by many Christians the world over. It is a week in which we all pray for unity of not only our faith

and works, but furthermore a week to pray that we all may be one in our solidarity. This year's theme will be "Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord" (cf. 1 Pt 2:9).

How might your parish celebrate this important week? Af-ter all, we are praying for unity, which is what Jesus want-ed. Perhaps you might invite another denomination's minis-

ter to come on a Sunday morning and offer a reflection after Communion about what the churches in your commu-

nity are doing to help those on the fringes of society. Or invite all the churches in your community to a joint prayer

service and potluck meal. Start small if you have never done something like this and then plan to make a gathering

    like this a yearly celebration.

For more information about this week, visit www.geii.org.

Our Father, We seek you in so many ways and places in our life. We seek you for guidance and for comfort. But you have told us that when there is hunger, it is up to us to feed the hungry. We ask you to help us see you in other Christians and humbly ask you for strength in the search for what we have in common. Bless our efforts to look at all the ways we are united in faith, and grant us courage to change our hearts and minds to realize your will. We ask all this through Christ our Lord and brother, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Amen.

THANK YOU We finished off our "Bringing Hope to the Table" Kroger food collection weekend with a total of 18 full shopping carts! To add to that, almost all of it is sorted and put on the pan-try shelves! What a truly Incredible team effort! I am not going to try to mention all that helped (God has you on His Great list) but the efforts of Julie, Dana, Bill and family made it hap-pen! Also a special shout out to Cindy, Vic, Robby and Emma ( The Eimers Foundation - Sharing is Caring) for coming out, adding encouragement and donating a FULL shopping cart of hot and cold cereals! We are so very blessed to have so many wonderful people who step up selflessly, do an amazing job and walk away not expecting even any thanks! Sometimes we get hardened by the coldness of many people but this kind of event really lets you see how wonderful and generous most people really are. To all those who helped "THANK YOU SO MUCH"!!!!! I wish you ALL a day of Peace, Joy and Love! -Roger Cunningham
