A plaque will be prepared for Glenn Keeranalong with a scholarship in his name. Glenn iscurrently in California but will be back soon.

The Episcopal Church donated $86.30 to thefood bank.

The free badge this month went to BarbaraJohnson.

Jack McGlivary reported that the club has do-nated $15,100 to various organizations and in-dividuals. Fundraising is above the budget thisyear.

The Cascade Horizon Band, a 55-membersenior adult concert band, will pre-sent itsthird annual summer program in Bend on Sat-urday evening, June 24 and for the first timein Sisters at Sisters High School at 3 p.m.,Sunday, June 25 under the direction of SueSteiger. The concert will feature big bandsounds of the ‘30’s ‘40’s, Dixieland jazz, show tunes, inspirational music and patrioticmarches. Part of the band will also appear ona float in the Sisters Rodeo Parade on June 13.This is a first for the band. Cascade HorizonBand concert performances are free to thepublic, in part thanks to Peter Storton,RE/MAX Town and Company Realty, present-ing sponsors for the Sisters concert.

Speaker Hadley McCann, now a local photogra-pher, was in the FBI for 29 years. One of his mostinteresting cases was with the Bagwhan at the Ra-jneesh Ranch in Antelope. It is a 65,000 acre ranchthat the Rajnheeshi cult bought in the early 80's. Inan attempt to take over the City of Antelope,Homeless people were bussed in to vote for cultmembers to Wasco County administrative positions.

In September of 1984, they were accused of infect-ing restaurants with salmonella in The Dalles. Over750 cases were confirmed. Another charge was at-tempted murder of the Attorney General of Oregon

In October 1985, indictments were issued when labequipment infected with salmonella was confis-cated. The Baghwhan posted $500,000 bail andfled. The ranch was bought and donated it to YoungLife, a Christian organization,By Susan Windell

DIANE JACOBSEN NAMED EVERYDAY HERO

Diane Jacobsen was awarded the everydayhero award for her outstanding work over theyears with children in her fourth-grade classes atSisters Elementary School and in other programsin the community.

The club recognizes her positive effect on chil-dren. She originated Oregon Field Trips to takeall fourth-grade classes for two days on the Ore-gon Trail. Children also participate in an IndianPow Wow to learn about Native American cul-ture. Diane is active in the High Desert Museumand Cub Scout program. She has the distinctionof being one of those teachers has taught chil-dren of the children she had in class. RickDavidson is the chair of the Everyday Heroawards

The Kiwanis sign at the east end of talent is finished and is being admired by citizens and visitors alike. JeffMcDonald headed up the project with the help of a number of volunteers. The sign was the result of a com-munity effort with number of local businesses donating supplies.

On May 11 the club was hosted bythe Key Club to a breakfast and visitto the woodworking shop at the highschool. They observed studentsmaking guitars under the tutelage ofteacher Tony Cosby. (Shown on theleft) The guitars were in variousstages of construction with some fin-ished examples that displayed out-standing workmanship.

Students work independently on theirown time before school. It is up tothem to show up They are gradedonly when they finish the project.

Jeff McDonald presents BevClarno, former Speaker of theHouse and Senator in the OregonLegislature with a club cup. Ms.Clarno spoke to the club about thegrowing meth problem in the state.With the aid of a PowerPoint pres-entation Ms. Clarno showed thedevastating effects of the drug onpeople and described the tremen-dous expense to the community ofthis epidemic.
