EXPANSION OF THE LIST OF RADIOANALYTICAL RESOURCES IN THE UNITED

STATES

The National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office (NNSA/NSO) currentlymaintains a database of the country's radiochemistry capabilities, which is instrumental in a

Federal Radiological Monitoring and Assessment Center (FRMAC) response. In the event of a

radiological emergency, FRMAC coordinates and facilitates all federal offsite monitoring and

assessment efforts to assist the Lead Federal Agency (LFA), state(s), tribal and local authorities

in a timely manner. FRMAC provides an operational framework for coordinating and managing

these offsite radiological activities during a radiological emergency. State and local agencies are

invited to collocate and prioritize monitoring efforts in the FRMAC .

In an effort to expand the list of identified radioanalytical resources in the United States which

could assist in the event of a radiological emergency, NNSA/NSO is soliciting the full contact

information for organizations and activities that have analytical equipment to measure

radioactivity. Examples of these types of organizations are federal government laboratories in

various organizations (DOD, EPA, NRC, FDA, USDA, etc), state government laboratories, local

public organizations (Health Departments ,laborator Tsenucleatr

Although the current database of radioanalytical capability is extensive, we would rather receive

duplicates of information that we already have, rather than miss a laboratory. Please fill ou t

the enclosed form and send to the address indicated or e-mail the basic contact information to

Mr . Nielsen via e-mail at, nielseec@nv.doe .gov .

Enclosed for your information is the short questionnaire that you will access through a web site.

This information will be compiled into a database to allow FRMAC to distribute sample analysis

requirements across available and appropriate analytical capability. The information you provide

will be used to evaluate and prioritize analytical support in the event of a radiological emergency,

which will be held within the emergency planning community. By completing the questionnaire,

you are under no obligation to accept any samples in an emergency. At the same time, FRMAC

and LFA are under no obligation to use your analytical capability .
