In the DG Series, Closed Loop Stepping Motor and Driver Package AR Series are used on a large diameter hollow rotary actuator. Functionality for easier control of the rotary actuator mechanism is provided along with better connectivity with switches, PLC, touch panels or FA networks. Oriental Motor has responded to customer feedback regarding conventional models to create a new actuator that is easier to use.

Various types of motors, such as the standard type and the geared type can be attached to a single driver. Therefore, there is no need to change the driver model depending on the motor to be attached. It also has achieved easier maintenance.

Harmonic GearedStandard

Heat generation by the motor has been significantly reduced through the use of high-efficiency technology. The stepping motors are suitable for short-distance, quick, repetitive positioning operation, without having to worry about the drive duty.You can select from two types of motor and driver packages: built-in controller type equipped with the interface which connects to various host systems, and pulse input type which can be controlled using a pulse generator provided by the customer.

What is FLEX?

FLEX is a collective name for products that support FA network control via I/O control, Modbus (RTU) control, and network converters.These products enable simple connection and simple control, shortening the total lead time for system configuration.

Selection Guide Selecting Based on Operating Function

Various types of motors are available, such as motors operating at a constant speed, motors these speed can be controlled, and motors capable of performing positioning operation. The following explains how to select a suitable motor based on the operating function. For the steps to select a motor based on characteristics (resolution, accuracy and speed), refer to the selection guide on pages 21 and 22.

For easy understanding of the differences among the operating functions, the following examples assume a belt-drive mechanism.

The motor is operated continuously at a constant speed or operated bi-directionally such as moving the load backward after moving forward.

Selection Guide Selecting Based on Basic Characteristics

According to differences of operating principle and structure, motors are classified as follows.It is important to understand the differences of basic characteristics when using the motors.

Motors Suitable for Constant Speed

An induction motor can be operated only by connecting to AC power supply, and the rated speed is approximately 1200 r/min (50 Hz), which is constant. Normally, a gearhead is connected directly for lower speed.Reversible motors (30 minutes rating) capable of instantaneous bi-directional operation and products with electromagnetic brake on the back of the motor are also available.To these motors, brake packs are provided for instantaneous stop and switching the rotation direction.

Position control motors are compact, and have high torque and a wide speed range to provide superior control.The pulse signal from a controller (pulse generator) specifies the rotation angle and speed to perform accurate positioning operation.Stepping motors provide excellent synchronization and position holding without manual tuning. They can be used in a simple system configuration. Servo motors follow commands, and provide high speed and high responsiveness.

Positioning PerformanceAn electromagnetic brake type motor, brake pack, AC speed control motor or brushless motor uses sensors to stop the load with the instantaneous stop function, and they are therefore subject to overrun (overshoot). If the equipment needs to perform high accuracy positioning operation, a stepping motor or servo motor offering excellent stopping accuracy is required. The stopping accuracy of stepping motors is 0.05 (RK Series, no load condition) and that of servo motors is 0.05 (NX Series).

ResolutionA stepping motor or servo motor is required in an application requiring high accuracy positioning operation. For stepping motors, we offer 5-phase stepping motors, driver packages, 2-phase stepping motors and driver packages. 5-phase stepping motors and driver packages offer higher resolution are capable of finer positioning operation. The resolution of a 5-phase stepping motor and driver package is almost same as a servo motor (initial setting). However, generally stepping motors have basic characteristics of generating high torque in the low-speed range, and servo motors in the high-speed range. This must be taken into consideration when you select a motor.
