Minimums and Maximums
As shades get wider, they require a larger diameter tube roller. When ordering different width shades in the
same room the diameter of the raised shade could vary even if the length is similar. If you are not using a
valance or fascia and you desire a consistent look, you will need to request the largest roller tube required on
your order for all the shades. Price grids outline standard roller tube size.
Railroaded Fabrics
Roller Shade Diameter Consistency
Solar Screen Roller Shades
Sizes exceeding fabric width are made from railroaded cloth, (when available) using width for height,
therefore any pattern will run sideways. Railroading fabric will accommodate a wider width shade but will
in turn limit the height of the shade to the fabric width minus 12” or more unless the fabric is seamed.
Seamed Fabrics
Some fabrics are available seamed, two pieces of fabrics are heat-welded together creating a visible
horizontal seam toward the top of the shade. Refer to the chart on page 6 for seaming availability.
Measuring Instructions
Inside Mount:
Mark order “Inside Mount”. Measure the exact width of the
opening where the roller shade brackets will be installed, to
the nearest, lowest 1/8”. Factory will make deductions to
ensure proper fit. Measure the height of the opening.
Outside Mount:
Mark order “Outside Mount”. Measure width and height of
area to be covered and provide exact dimensions required.
It is recommended that Roller Shades overlap the window
by at least 1 1/2” on each side. If mounting brackets are
needed beyond the casing or to clear obstructions
(i.e. window cranks, trim work, etc.) projection brackets are
available upon request.
Note:
Inside mount measurements represent the exact window
opening size, the factory will make the necessary
deductions to insure proper fit. Outside measurements
represent the exact tip-to-tip size needed.
Please use a steel tape measure to ensure proper measurements.
• Roller shade sizes are based on tip-to-tip measurements.
• Roller shade fabric is 1” less than the tip-to-tip measurement on shades produced on
1 1/4” and 1 1/2” tubes.
• Roller shade fabric is 1 1/8” to 1 1/4” less than tip-to-tip measurement on shades
produced on 2” and 3” roller or shades with Cassette 120. (except Motorized =1 7/8” difference)
Roller Shade Deductions
Tip-to-Tip vs. Fabric Measurements
• When ordering an outside mount shade, determine the width you desire the
fabric to be and add for the tip-to-tip measurement.
• Additional fabric is added to ordered height to allow for roller coverage and spring tension.
Roller Shade depth requirements are affected by several variables, such as: the size of the roller tube (depends on the shade width), the thickness of the fabric, and the overall shade height. Please review the chart below to determine if you have enough window depth for inside mount.
Depth Requirements
*Flush mount measure is taken from the back of the bracket to the front edge of the clutch mechanism. The fabric roll, in most cases, will not exceed this depth.

Solar Screen Roller Shade Motorization Options
5 Steps to Motorized Roller Shades
Step 1. Verify that your shade falls within the allowable size ranges and depth requirements
for motorization. Battery operated Roller Shades can be motorized at a minimum width of
13” up to maximum size of 48 square feet. Larger motorized shades require a plug-in or
in-wall wiring, maximum square footage will vary depending on AC or DC power.
Step 2. Choose your motor type - Radio Frequency
a. Radio Frequency (RF) provides the perfect solution for hard to reach
windows. No need to aim the control, the radio signal travels through walls similar
to a garage door opener.
Step 3. Choose your power source - Battery Powered, Plug-In, or In-Wall Wired
a. Battery Wirefree™ - The motor is powered by extended life lithium batteries.
Reloadable tube holds 8 AA batteries. No wires to conceal and no need for an
electrician.
Optional solar panel is mounted on in the inside of the window opening and
converts the sun’s light into electrical energy. The harnessed electrical energy is
stored within a special battery which powers any WireFree™ motorized window
covering, resulting in a maintenance-free, environmentally friendly alternative to
disposable lithium batteries.
b. Plug-In - Maintenance free operation. DC motors use a transformer similar to a
laptop or cell phone charger that plugs directly into a standard electrical outlet. AC
motors come with a standard cord that plugs into any 110 outlet.
c. In-Wall Wired - The motor is typically wired into the home/building’s electrical
system, requiring an electrician. AC in-wall wired motors are wired directly to a
junction box leaving no wires to conceal. DC in-wall wired motors are wired to a
transformer using a speaker type wire.
Step 4. Choose your control - Remote or Wall Switch
a. Radio Frequency (RF) - Available in single channel, 5-channel, 16-channel and
20-channel option as well as single or 5-channel wall switch, waterproof patio
remote or programmable timer.
Step 5. Select your programming options. Shades can operate individually, as a group, or
both individually and as a group.
For pricing and more specific information about these and other motorized options please see our
Motorization Pricelist February 3, 2015.
