Illinois. He attended West Point and entered the diplomatic

a plantation operator. Ke is married and has two children.

JEFFERSON PATTERSON
Jefferson Patterson was born in Dayton, Ohio, on May Hi,
1891. He attended Harvard and Yale Universities, and is a
member of the Ohio bar. He was appointed Secretary of Lega-
tion and assigned to the Department of State in 1921. He
has since served as Secretary of embassy or legation at
Peking, Bogota, Ankara, Oslo and 3erlin and as Consul at
Breslau. From the outbreak of the war he was in charge of
the Prisoner of Itfar Section, American Embassy, Berlin, and
was entrusted with protection of Belgian, British and French
interests in Germany. He served as counselor of Embassy at
the following places: Lima, Peruj Brussels, Belgium j and
Cairo, Egypt. He has also served as Assistant Chief, Divi-
sion of Protocol, Department of State. He is married.

HARBX L. moumN
Born on July 22, 18°2 at Macon, Georgia, he graduated
from Qresham High School. He has been a foreign service
officer since 1919 when he started as vice consul in Milan.
Since then he has served at Messina, Budapest, Gleppo,
Beirut, Jerusalem, Bucharest, Salonkia, and Alexandria.

It is understood that dollars may be used in the United
Kingdom, Denmark, and Greece.
It is not illegal to use dollars for shopping, etc. but
probably will not be accepted in Switzerland and Ireland.
In Austria there are a few shops which are authorized
to accept dollars.
Although the Norwegian Embassy said it was illegal to
use dollars, a tourist who just carae back from Norway had
no difficulty in using dollars - dollars were freely ac-
cepted.
