PT BUMI Resources Tbk (BUMI) has

processed the tenth installment payment of US$ 6.51 million through a facility agent. This amount represents the loan interest of US$ 6.51 million for Tranche A.

Bumi Resources Director and Corporate Secretary Dileep Srivastava explained, with the tenth quarterly installment payment, BUMI had paid the entire debt of US$ 327.82 million in cash.

This amount consists of the principal of Tranche A worth US$ 195.8 million and interest of US$ 132.02 million, including accrued interest and unpaid interest (back interest).

"The next payment for Tranche A will be due in October 2020," Dileep wrote in an official statement received by Kontan.co.id, Wednesday (8/7).

Dileep added, payment-in-kind coupons from 11 April 2018 to 8 July 2020 on Tranche B and C had also begun to be capitalized.

This debt repayment was made when BUMI's performance in the first quarter of 2020 was under pressure. In the first quarter of this year, the coal mining issuer posted a net loss of up to US$ 35.1 million, inversely proportional to the performance of the first quarter of 2019 which was still able to record a attributable net profit of US$ 48.4 million.

PT BUMI Resources Tbk (BUMI) telah memproses pembayaran cicilan utang kesepuluh sebesar US$ 6,51 juta melalui agen fasilitas. Jumlah ini mewakili bunga pinjaman senilai US$ 6,51 juta untuk Tranche A.

Direktur dan Corporate Secretary Bumi Resources Dileep Srivastava menjelaskan, dengan pembayaran triwulanan cicilan kesepuluh, BUMI telah membayar kese-luruhan utang sebesar US$ 327,82 juta secara tunai.

Jumlah ini terdiri atas pokok Tranche A senilai US$ 195,8 juta dan bunga sebesar US$ 132,02 juta, termasuk bunga akrual dan bunga yang belum dibayar (back interest).

“Pembayaran berikutnya atas Tranche A akan jatuh tempo pada Oktober 2020,” tulis Dileep dalam keterangan resmi yang diterima Kontan.co.id, Rabu (8/7).

Dileep menambahkan, kupon payment-in-kind dari 11 April 2018 hingga 8 Juli 2020 atas Tranche B dan C juga sudah mulai dikapitalisasi.

Pembayaran cicilan utang ini dilakukan saat kinerja kuartal I-2020 BUMI meng-alami tekanan. Pada kuartal pertama tahun ini, emiten pertambangan batubara ini membukukan kerugian bersih hingga US$ 35,1 juta, berbanding terbalik dengan kinerja kuartal I-2019 yang masih mampu mencatatkan laba bersih yang dapat di-atribusikan senilai US$ US$ 48.4 juta.

Dileep said the decline in BUMI's performance was caused by a sharp correction in coal prices that began in late 2018 due to a trade war between China and the United States.

In addition, coal prices reached their lowest point in the January-March period due to the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) and regional quarantine (lockdown) in many countries which affected coal demand.

As a result, BUMI's performance in the first three months of 2020 also declined. BUMI recorded a net income of US$ 1.07 billion, down 4% from the realization of the same period the previous year which reached US$ 1.125 billion.

However, BUMI's operational performance rose. In the first quarter of 2020, BUMI's coal sales volume rose 3% on an annual basis to 21.5 million tons. While the production volume rose 5% to 20.8 million tons.

Dileep bilang, turunnya kinerja BUMI di-sebabkan oleh koreksi tajam harga batu-bara yang dimulai sejak akhir 2018 akibat perang dagang antara China dengan Amerika Serikat.

Selain itu, harga batubara mencapai titik terendah di periode Januari-Maret lalu karena pandemi virus corona (Covid-19) dan karantina wilayah ( lockdown) di banyak negara yang mempengaruhi per-mintaan batubara.

Alhasil, kinerja BUMI di sepanjang tiga bulan pertama 2020 juga ikut turun. BUMI mencatatkan pendapatan bersih sebesar US$ 1,07 miliar, turun 4% dari realisasi periode yang sama tahun sebelumnya yang mencapai US$ 1,125 miliar.

Meski demikian, kinerja operasional BUMI naik. Pada kuartal pertama lalu 2020, volume penjualan batubara BUMI naik 3% secara tahunan menjadi 21,5 juta ton. Sementara volume produksi naik 5% menjadi 20,8 juta ton.

WABAH pandemi Covid-19 yang berdampak pada terhambatnya proses mobilitas. Hal ini membuat PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) menghentikan proyek yang sedang dikerjakan. Setidaknya ada enam proyek yang harus ditunda proses pembangunannya. Hal ini dikemukakan dalam rapat dengar pendapat bersama Komisi VII DPR RI. Adapun enam proyek tersebut antara lain :

SGAR Mempawah Project

The processing and refining facilities or Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) which are being worked on in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, have to be temporarily stopped. At present the development stage has reached maturation or early work and completion of engineering design. The 1,000 Ktpa alumina project is known to cost an investment of USD 841 million.

Reduction Furnace Project

The next project that was also forced to be postponed was the development of the smelter reduction furnace and alumina refinery projects. The main factor causing the stagnation of this project is because it is waiting for preparations from the Chinese and Middle East who are also affected by the pandemic outbreak. This project requires an investment fund of USD 107.7 million.

Tanjung Enim Mine Mouth Power Plant

The construction of the power plant project with a capacity of 2 x 621.72 MW also experienced serious obstacles. Swallowing investment funds reaching USD 1.68 billion, this project is a collaboration with PT Bukit Asam which also partners with a Chinese company, Huadian Corporation. The cause of this delay is also due to the Chinese companies experiencing a shift in EPC. Once the problem is solved, the process can be resumed.

Ferronickel Smelter

The project was also forced to experience development delays. Even though the stage is approaching the final process with progress reaching 97.98 percent. The main cause is due to a disrupted power supply. The project undertaken by PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) has an investment of USD 289 million. At present, his party is conducting an in-depth discussion with PLN so that supplies can recover.

Proyek SGAR Mempawah

Fasilitas pengolahan dan pemurnian atau Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) yang sedang digarap di wilayah Mempawah, Kalimantan Barat terpaksa harus dihentikan sementara prosesnya. Saat ini tahap pem-bangunan sudah mencapai pematangan lahan atau early work serta penyelesaian engineering design. Proyek berkapasitas 1.000 Ktpa alumina ini diketahui menelan investasi senilai USD 841 juta.

Proyek Tungku Reduksi

Proyek berikutnya yang juga terpaksa harus ditunda pembangunannya adalah proyek pengembangan tungku reduksi smelter serta refinery alumina. Faktor utama penyebab mandeknya proyek ini dikarenakan menunggu persiapan dari pihak Tiongkok dan Timur Tengah yang juga terkena wabah pandemi. Proyek ini menelan dana investasi sebesar USD 107,7 juta.

PLTU Mulut Tambang Tanjung Enim

Pembangunan proyek pembangkit listrik yang berkapasitas 2 x 621,72 MW ini juga meng-alami hambatan yang cukup serius. Menelan dana investasi mencapai USD 1,68 miliar, proyek ini merupakan kerjasama dengan PT Bukit Asam yang juga bermitra dengan perusahaan asal Cina, Huadian Corporation. Penyebab penundaan ini juga dikarenakan dari pihak perusahaan Cina mengalami pergeseran EPC. Begitu masalah itu selesai, maka proses bisa dilanjutkan kembali.

Smelter Feronikel

Proyek ini juga terpaksa harus mengalami penundaan pembangunan. Padahal tahapannya sudah mendekati proses final dengan progress sudah mencapai 97,98 persen. Penyebab utamanya adalah dikarenakan pasokan listrik yang terganggu. Proyek yang dikerjakan oleh PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) ini menelan investasi sebesar USD 289 juta. Saat ini pihak-nya tengah melakukan pembahasan mendalam bersama PLN agar pasokan bisa pulih kembali.

Ausmelt Tin Smelter

The smelter project which is planned to be able to accommodate 40,000 tons of crude tin is also forced to experience delays. The smelter project in the West Bangka region is known to have reached an investment value of USD 80 million. The Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) construction phase is planned to resume in October this year, and the smelter is targeted to start operating next year.

Copper Smelter in Gresik

The sixth project that was forced to experience delays was the construction of a copper smelter and Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) undertaken by PT Freeport Indonesia in the Gresik area. The project, which has an investment value of up to USD 3 billion, is estimated to accommodate 2 million tons of concentrate per year and anode sludge capacity of 6,000 tons per year. Until the end of May 2020, the stage only reached 5.86 percent.

Smelter Tin Ausmelt

targetkan bakal mulai beroperasi pada tahun

depan.

Smelter Tembaga di Gresik

Proyek keenam yang terpaksa harus meng-alami penundaan adalah pembangunan smelter tembaga dan Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) yang dikerjakan oleh PT Freeport Indonesia di wilayah Gresik. Proyek yang memiliki nilai investasi mencapai USD 3 miliar itu diperkirakan bakal menampung konsentrat sebesar 2 juta ton per tahun dan kapasitas lumpur anoda mencapai 6.000 ton per tahun. Hingga akhir Mei 2020, tahapan-nya baru mencapai 5,86 persen.

"We have updated our coal resource potential as of December 2019. This is to illustrate the exact potential of our coal resources and reserves," Saleh said in the Commission VII meeting room of the Jakarta Parliament Building, Wednesday (07/08/2020).

From the data presented by Saleh, if the national coal reserves are divided into two,

namely proven reserves with a total of 20.5 billion tons and estimated reserves of 17.06 billion tons.

Meanwhile, the largest reserves are in

Kalimantan with 24.7 billion tons, followed

by Sumatra with 12.8 billion tons.

Then there are 2.9 billion tons of reserves in Sulawesi, and in Java there are 230 million tons. Meanwhile in Maluku and Papua there are still no reserves.

For information, mineral resources are the number of deposits of minerals which have the potential to be of economic value and are only based on geological criteria. Meanwhile, reserves are part of resources that have economic viability and can be

"Potensi sumber daya batu bara kami sudah kami update per Desember 2019. Seperti ini untuk gambaran pasti potensi sumber daya dan cadangan batu bara kita," ungkap Saleh di ruang rapat komisi VII Gedung DPR Jakarta, Rabu (8/7/2020).

Dari data yang dipaparkan Saleh, apabila dirinci cadangan batu bara nasional dibagi dua, yaitu cadangan terbukti dengan jumlah 20,5 miliar ton dan cadangan ter-kira sebanyak 17,06 miliar ton.

Sementara itu, cadangan terbanyak ada di Pulau Kalimantan dengan mencapai 24,7 miliar ton, disusul Sumatera sebesar 12,8 miliar ton.

Kemudian ada cadangan 2,9 miliar ton di Sulawesi, dan di Jawa ada 230 juta ton. Sementara itu di Maluku dan Papua masih belum ditemukan cadangan.

Sebagai informasi, sumber daya mineral adalah banyaknya endapan bahan galian yang berpotensi bernilai ekonomis dan hanya berdasarkan kriteria geologi saja. Sementara itu, cadangan merupakan bagian dari sumber daya yang memiliki kelayakan ekonomi dan dapat ditambang. (hns/hns)

United Tractors Corporate Secretary Sara K. Loebis claimed the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the progress of the company's Java 4 steam power plant (PLTU) project development.

She explained the pandemic sentiment affected the labor turnover system and the logistical flow of the project. Because the change of labor requires two additional

weeks as a quarantine period before entering the project area.

"The pandemic protocol affects the process on the ground, but the project completion plan will remain in 2021," Sara told Bisnis, quoted Wednesday (07/08/2020).

The issuer coded UNTR shares will still focus on the completion of the Java 4 PLTU and not have other PLTU development plans in the near future. Meanwhile, as of

May 31, 2020 the progress of the construction of PLTU Jawa 4 has reached 93 percent.

For information, PLTU Jawa 4 (Tanjung Jati B Units 5 and 6) is located in Jepara Regency, Central Java, which will be 2x1,000 megawatt (MW) with a total investment of US$ 4.2 billion.

The Java 4 PLTU project was built and operated by PT Bhumi Jati Power (BJP).

Meanwhile, BJP is a joint venture between Sumitomo Corporation Group with 50 percent ownership, The Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. Group 25 percent, and the company 25 percent.

This project will require coal of 7 million tons, with around 2 million tons coming from the company's production. Editor:

Corporate Secretary United Tractors Sara K. Loebis mengaku pandemi Covid-19 telah mempengaruhi progres pengembangan proyek pembangkit listrik tenaga uap (PLTU) Jawa 4 milik perseroan.

Dia menjelaskan sentimen pandemi mem-pengaruhi sistem pergantian tenaga kerja dan laju keluar masuk logistik dari proyek itu. Pasalnya, pergantian tenaga kerja

membutuhkan waktu dua minggu tam-bahan sebagai periode karantina sebelum masuk ke area proyek.

“Protokol pandemi mempengaruhi proses di lapangan, tapi rencana penyelesaian proyek akan tetap di 2021,” ujar Sara kepada Bisnis, dikutip Rabu (8/7/2020).

Emiten berkode saham UNTR itu pun masih akan fokus terhadap penyelesaian PLTU Jawa 4 dan belum memiliki rencana

pembangunan PLTU lainnya dalam waktu dekat. Adapun, per 31 Mei 2020 progres pembangunan PLTU Jawa 4 sudah men-capai 93 persen.

Untuk diketahui, PLTU Jawa 4 (Tanjung Jati B Unit 5 dan 6) berlokasi di Kabupaten Jepara, Jawa Tengan yang akan berdaya 2x1.000 megawatt (MW) dengan total investasi mencapai US$4,2 miliar.

Proyek PLTU Jawa 4 itu dibangun dan dioperasikan oleh PT Bhumi Jati Power

(BJP). Adapun, BJP merupakan perusahaan patungan antara Sumitomo Corporation Group dengan kepemilikan 50 persen, The Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. Group 25 persen, dan perseroan sebesar 25 persen.

THE COORDINATING Minister for Maritime

and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan together with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto prepared the development of the use of rare earth metals, one of which was for the benefit of weapons production. The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) plans to conduct a survey to find out the potential of rare earth, next year.

Acting Head of Geology Agency, ESDM Ministry Saleh Abdurrahman said that rare earth is very potential, one of which can be used to make chips. "That is just a survey next year, it is very potential. We can make high-tech chips that will be surveyed," he said after a hearing (RDP) with the House of Representatives Commission VII, Wednes-day, (07/08/2020).

He said the possibility of rare earth could be found in areas that produce lead, for example in Bangka Belitung. Indonesia is estimated to have large reserves of rare earth.

"Certainly in tin areas like Bangka Belitung, then areas that are compounded with mineral traps," he explained.

Kita bisa buat chips teknologi tinggi itu kan di-survey," ungkapnya selepas Rapat Dengar Pendapat (RDP) dengan Komisi VII DPR RI, Rabu, (08/07/2020).

Ia mengatakan kemungkinan rare earth bisa ditemukan di daerah yang menghasilkan timah, contohnya di Bangka Belitung. Indonesia diperkirakan punya cadangan besar rare earth.

"Pasti di daerah timah kayak Bangka Belitung, kemudian daerah yang bersenyawa dengan jebakan mineral," jelasnya.

Yunus mengatakan perlu duduk bersama dari sektor hulu sampai hilir, antara lain Kementerian ESDM sebagai hulu dan Kementerian Perindustrian sebagai hilir. "Di tengah-tengah investasi oleh Menko Maritim dan Investasi dan badan usaha-nya," ungkapnya.

Dirut PT Timah Riza Pahlevi mengatakan pihaknya saat ini tengah mengevaluasi dan akan menghitung besaran jumlah cadangan daripada rare earth.

"Lagi kita evaluasi kita siapkan, kita punya pilot project plan nanti kita lagi mulai lihat mau hitung jumlah cadangannya berapa. Nanti kita akan kembangkan ke skala komersial," katanya saat ditemui selepas rapat dengar pendapat di Komisi VII DPR RI, Selasa, (30/06/2020).

Ia mengatakan saat ini masih dalam proses penelitian. Ia menegaskan nantinya akan dikaji teknologi yang akan digunakan.

"Teknologi yang akan kita pakai kemudian yang akan kita lihat lagi adalah jumlah cadangan supaya kita bisa mengembang-kan secara komersial. Ya macam-macam dari kesehatan, industri strategis gitu," jelasnya.

The proposal to use rare earth as material for weapons is the result of discussions between the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.

THE COAL mining company PT ABM Investama Tbk (ABMM) successfully achieved a good financial performance in the first quarter of 2020.

Based on the company's financial statements, ABMM's net income reached

US$ 161.74 million in the first quarter of 2020, an increase of 11.62% (yoy) compared to the first quarter of 2019 of US$ 144.90 million.

Most of ABMM's net income in the first three months of 2020 came from the mining contractor and coal mining segment of US$ 123.18 million. ABMM also obtained net income from the logistics services business and boat rental of US$

ABMM's cost of revenue also increased in the first quarter of 2020 by 8.50% (yoy) to US$ 133.19 million. In the first quarter of 2019, the issuer's cost of revenue was at US$ 122.75 million.

On the other hand, ABMM experienced a decrease in sales, general and adminis-trative expenses by 1.10% (yoy) from US$ 12.64 million in the first quarter of 2019 to US$ 12.50 million in the first quarter of 2020.

ABMM's financial costs also shrank by 9.93% (yoy) from US$ 10.17 million in the first quarter of 2019 to US$ 9.16 million in the first quarter of 2020.

These results made ABMM net profit of US$ 1.79 million in the first quarter of 2020, whereas in the same period last year the issuer suffered a net loss of US$ 199,756.

ABMM's liabilities were recorded at US$ 650.42 million in the first quarter of 2020, up 6.79% (qoq) compared to liabilities at the end of 2019 of US$ 609.03 million. On the other hand, ABMM's equity decreased 2.34% (qoq) from US$ 245.19 million at the end of 2019 to US$ 239.45 million in the first quarter of 2020.

The total assets of ABMM in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to US$ 889.80 million. This number increased 4.16% (qoq) from the value of assets at the end of 2019 of US$ 854.22 million.

Beban pokok pendapatan ABMM juga meningkat di kuartal I-2020 sebesar 8,50% (yoy) menjadi US$ 133,19 juta. Pada kuartal I-2019, beban pokok pendapatan emiten ini berada di level US$ 122,75 juta.

Hasil tersebut membuat ABMM mencetak laba bersih sebesar US$ 1,79 juta di kuartal I-2020, padahal di periode yang sama di tahun lalu emiten tersebut menderita rugi bersih sebesar US$ 199.756.

The Most "Shiny" Copper Among Other Metals, This Is the

NOBODY expected a recovery in copper

prices to happen this quickly. Currently, prices have managed to return to their prices at the beginning of this year while other commodities are still struggling to escape the red zone trap.

Based on Bloomberg data, on Tuesday (7/7/2020) copper prices on the LME exchange managed to rise 0.97 percent to US$ 6,188 per ton. The increase also made the price of base metals erase their losses throughout the year 2020 due to market

turmoil along with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Copper prices managed to reverse the situation, after in mid-March 2020 it dropped to touch the lowest level since 2016, at the position of US$ 4,371 per ton.

Year-to-date (ytd), copper prices have moved up 0.23 percent. As such, copper is a commodity with the best performance among other base metals.

The price of aluminum is still down 9.72 percent, the price of zinc is still down 8.89 percent, nickel corrected 3.96 percent, and tin is still down 1.19 percent ytd.

So do not be surprised, since last month Morgan Stanley has made copper as one of the most favored base metal commodities today. Market participants also believe it will be a trigger for other financial institutions to champion copper in the near future.

Berdasarkan data Bloomberg, pada perda-gangan Selasa (7/7/2020) harga tembaga si bursa LME berhasil naik 0,97 persen ke level US$6.188 per ton. Kenaikan itu pun membuat harga logam dasar itu meng-hapus kerugiannya sepanjang tahun ber-jalan 2020 akibat gejolak pasar seiring dengan pandemi Covid-19.

Harga tembaga berhasil membalikkan keadaan, setelah pada medio Maret 2020 anjlok hingga menyentuh level terendah sejak 2016, di posisi US$4.371 per ton.

Secara year-to-date (ytd), harga tembaga telah bergerak menguat 0,23 persen. Dengan demikian, tembaga menjadi komo-ditas dengan kinerja terbaik di antara logam dasar lainnya.

Harga aluminium masih melemah 9,72 persen, harga seng masih tercatat turun 8,89 persen, nikel terkoreksi 3,96 persen, dan timah masih melemah 1,19 persen secara ytd.

Maka tak kaget, sejak bulan lalu Morgan Stanley telah menjadikan tembaga sebagai salah satu komoditas logam dasar yang paling difavoritkan saat ini. Pelaku pasar pun meyakini hal itu akan menjadi pemicu bagi lembaga keuangan lainnya untuk menjagokan tembaga dalam waktu dekat ini.

Meanwhile, the copper rally is currently supported by the sentiment of production disruptions in the world's largest producer country, Chile, as thousands of miners from the country fell ill amid sentiment of recovery signals from China, the world's largest metal consumer.

TD Securities analyst Ryan McKay said that metal prices, which are often used as a barometer of economic growth, received an additional boost from the supply side as Latin America has become the center of the spread of Covid-19 today and social restrictions are imposed in large mining areas.

"With that sentiment, some miners are increasingly optimistic about the prospect of copper prices going forward," McKay said as quoted by Bloomberg, Wednesday (07/08/2020).

One copper mining company, Eurasian Resources Group, claimed to be optimistic that copper prices could reach US$ 7,000 per ton next year, helped by periods of prolonged structural shortages due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, supply disruptions mainly come from Chile, which accounts for more than a quarter of global copper supply. The country is currently struggling to maintain its production level because many of its mine workers have fallen ill along with the surge in Covid-19 infection in Chile.

Mining unions and local Chilean politicians also voiced tighter social restrictions, even though the number of workers in the mining area had been reduced.

In the Codelco mine area, one of the world's largest copper companies, 2,843 workers have been confirmed positive by Covid-19 as of July 5, 2020. The worst affected mining areas are El Teniente and Chuquicamata with 1,044 and 636 positive cases, respectively.

Analis TD Securities Ryan McKay mengata-kan bahwa harga logam yang sering dijadikan sebagai barometer pertumbuhan ekonomi mendapat dorongan tambahan dari sisi pasokan seiring dengan Amerika Latin telah menjadi pusat penyebaran Covid-19 saat ini dan pembatasan sosial pun di-terapkan di wilayah pertambangan besar.

“Dengan sentimen itu, beberapa penambang semakin optimistis pada prospek harga tembaga ke depan,” ujar McKay seperti di-kutip dari Bloomberg, Rabu (8/7/2020).

Salah satu perusahaan tambang tembaga, Eurasian Resources Group, mengaku optimistis harga tembaga dapat mencapai US$7.000 per ton pada tahun depan, dibantu oleh periode kekurangan pasokan struktural yang berkepanjangan akibat pandemi Covid-19.

Adapun, gangguan pasokan terutama berasal dari Chili, yang menyumbang lebih dari seper-empat pasokan tembaga global. Negara itu saat ini tengah berjuang untuk mempertahan-kan tingkat produksinya karena banyak pekerja tambangnya jatuh sakit seiring dengan lonjakan infeksi Covid-19 di Chili.

Serikat pekerja tambang dan politisi lokal Chili pun menyuarakan pembatasan sosial yang lebih ketat, walaupun jumlah pekerja di wilayah tambang sudah dikurangi.

Di wilayah tambang Codelco, salah satu per-usahaan tembaga terbesar dunia, sebanyak 2.843 pekerja telah terkonfirmasi positif Covid-19 per 5 Juli 2020. Wilayah tambang terparah El Teniente dan Chuquicamata yang masing-masing pekerja positif ter-infeksi sebanyak 1.044 dan 636 kasus.

As a result, development projects at El Teniente, Codelco's largest mine, have been stopped and the company is changing production patterns. At another Codelco mine, Chuquicamata, the company stopped the smelting activities and sharply reduced refining.

In addition, another mining company, BHP Group, announced plans to reduce production activities at the Cerro Colorado mine last week.

BMO analyst Colin Hamilton said that with the condition of Chile which has the worst Covid-19 infection rate in the world and thousands of positive confirmed cases in its mining areas, it was feared that it could not meet China's demand, which had begun to recover.

"In addition, disruptions in Peru, Zambia and Mexico have now also been seen, so the copper concentrate market seems to be getting tougher," Hamilton said.

Capital Futures analyst Wahyu Laksono explained that the rebound in copper prices will continue to be supported by growth in Chinese demand along with the stimulus provided by the government.

China's impulse credit is considered the single best indicator for increased metal demand and is expected to increase further which strengthens the prospect of copper prices moving higher.

Moreover, the current weakening of global copper reserves is also being market sentiment.

"The second half seems to be consolidating copper, although the rebound is still wide open but the threat of correction is also still there because the spread of Covid-19 the second wave also still threatens the economy, including China," Wahyu told Bisnis on Wednesday (07/07/2020).

Selain itu, perusahaan tambang lainnya, BHP Group, mengumumkan rencana untuk mengurangi aktivitas produksi di tambang Cerro Colorado pada pekan lalu.

Analis BMO Colin Hamilton mengatakan bahwa dengan kondisi Chili yang memiliki tingkat infeksi Covid-19 terburuk di dunia dan ribuan kasus positif terkonfirmasi di wilayah tambangnya, dikhawatirkan tidak dapat memenuhi permintaan China, yang sudah mulai pulih.

“Selain itu, gangguan di Peru, Zambia, dan Meksiko kini juga sudah terlihat sehingga pasar konsentrat tembaga tampaknya akan semakin ketat,” ujar Hamilton.

Analis Capital Futures Wahyu Laksono men-jelaskan bahwa rebound harga tembaga akan terus berlanjut didukung oleh pertumbuhan permintaan China seiring dengan stimulus yang diberikan pemerintah.

Credit impuls China dianggap sebagai indikator tunggal terbaik untuk pening-katan permintaan logam dan diperkirakan akan meningkat lebih lanjut yang mem-perkuat prospek harga tembaga untuk bergerak lebih tinggi.

Apalagi, saat ini pelemahan tingkat cadangan tembaga global juga sedang menjadi sentimen pasar.

“Paruh kedua sepertinya tembaga masih konsolidasi, walaupun rebound masih terbuka lebar tetapi ancaman koreksi juga masih ada karena penyebaran Covid-19 gelombang kedua juga masih mengancam ekonomi, termasuk China,” ujar Wahyu kepada Bisnis, Rabu (7/7/2020).

Meanwhile, the level of US$ 5,000-US$ 6,000 per ton could be an area of consolidation as well as gravity which attracts prices if it plummets or surges.

The increase in the price of coal contracts reflects more technical factors than the fundamentals. Without solid fundamentals the price of coal is prone to correction, especially after being shot up.

Although there are efforts to cut output from various producing countries such as Indonesia, slowing demand is still the main cause of depressed coal prices. The economy is starting to be driven again. But demand has not fully recovered.

Pressure on coal prices comes from various directions. In the Asia Pacific region, demand for seaborne coal is still weak.

India and China have begun to limit their coal imports and switch to domestic coal supplies. The implementation of the import quota policy by China has made the domestic coal market with seaborne disconnected.

Meanwhile from Japan and South Korea, demand for coal also slowed. Aside from the Covid-19 pandemic, winter which tends to be warm is also another factor that triggers the coal needs of the two countries, not as high as the usual winter.

The price of gas which has also plummeted in its abundant supply has become a threat to coal commodities. The State of Ginseng and the State of Sakura have the potential to switch from coal to gas because it is more competitive and considered more economical.

On the other hand, the decline in electricity consumption for the industrial and commercial sectors in the Western hemisphere also makes coal demand decrease. Especially after the pandemic, the pressure to switch to environmentally friendly energy sources is higher in Europe.

Kenaikan harga kontrak batu bara lebih mencerminkan faktor teknikal saja ketimbang fundamentalnya. Tanpa funda-mental yang kokoh harga batu bara rawan kena koreksi apalagi setelah melesat tinggi.

Meski ada upaya pemangkasan output dari berbagai negara produsen seperti Indonesia, permintaan yang melambat masih jadi biang kerok tertekannya harga batu bara. Ekonomi memang mulai dipacu lagi. Namun permintaan belum sepenuh-nya pulih.

Tekanan terhadap harga batu bara datang dari berbagai arah. Di kawasan Asia Pasifik, permintaan terhadap batu bara lintas laut (seaborne) masih lemah.

India dan China mulai membatasi impor batu bara mereka dan beralih ke pasokan batu bara domestik. Penerapan kebijakan kuota impor oleh China membuat pasar batu bara domestik dengan seaborne mengalami diskoneksi.

Sementara itu dari Jepang dan Korea Selatan, permintaan terhadap batu bara juga melambat. Selain akibat pandemi Covid-19, musim dingin yang cenderung hangat juga jadi faktor lain yang jadi pemicu kebutuhan batu bara kedua negara tidak setinggi musim dingin biasanya.

Harga gas yang juga anjlok dalam serta pasokannya yang melimpah menjadi ancaman bagi komoditas batu bara. Negeri Ginseng dan Negeri Sakura berpotensi beralih dari batu bara ke gas karena lebih kompetitif dan dinilai lebih ekonomis.

Di sisi lain, penurunan konsumsi listrik untuk sektor industri dan komersial di belahan bumi Barat juga membuat kebutuhan batu bara menurun. Apalagi setelah pandemi, tekanan untuk beralih ke sumber energi yang ramah lingkungan semakin tinggi di Eropa.

Germany is an example of a European country that continues to strive to leave coal. Panzer State will give a bonus if utility companies start switching from coal to other energy alternatives that are environmentally friendly to support Germany's move to cut greenhouse gases by 55% by 2030.

On the other hand the threat of the second wave also emerged. The surge in high cases in the US to 58 thousand new cases in the last 24 hours and the increase in cases in other countries has made the market overwhelmed with anxiety.

What market participants fear is if the lockdown is re-applied. Some cities such as Beijing, Leicester and Melbourne have even implemented regional quarantine to suppress the spread of the corona virus.

If lockdown is re-applied massively, supply chain disruption and weakening of demand will occur. Obviously this is not good news for this superior commodity of Indonesia and Australia. CNBC INDONESIA RESEARCH

Micromine helps Indiana Resources plot next exploration steps at Saboussire

INDIANA Resources is using MICROMINE’s exploration and 3D mine modelling software to

help secure and maintain the integrity of data relating to a sizable gold anomaly, with a value of over 50 parts per billion (ppb), at its tenements in West Africa, the mining software company says.

High-grade soil sample results from the company’s Saboussire site, in western Mali, indicate a large gold anomaly stretching 2 km by 1 km, and a 9,610 ppb (9.6 g/t Au) result from the central portion of the licence which has been earmarked for immediate follow up,

The company has identified two new zones of interest and is preparing for the next phase of exploration after assaying 271 anomalous samples, with values over 20 ppb Au. The samples were visually reviewed by geologists with the data, and related information, stored in a validated database and available for further interrogation.

MICROMINE Technical Product Manager, Gordon Thomas, said: “The Micromine application, which is a core component in our integrated suite of specialist mining software, gives users an in-depth understanding of their projects. This means prospective regions like this can be targeted more accurately, which increases the chance of project success.

“Storing key exploration data in a Micromine database enables resource owners to optimise the information they have available and manage exploration and modelling activities all in one place.

“In the early phases of exploration, such as the sampling program conducted by Indiana Resources, the software creates an accurate picture of the results by enabling fast and flexible data import, export, entry, editing, processing and validation.

“This information is safely stored for further analysis, modelling, estimation, design, optimisation and scheduling at a later date, using the range of functional modules included in the latest version of the leading software solution, Micromine 2020.”

Indiana Chairman, Bronwyn Barnes, said the encouraging results warranted further exploration and the company was now focused on kicking off the next phase of exploration on several priority targets.

Barrick, Japan Gold step up exploration Cecilia Jamasmie

BARRICK (TSX: ABX) (NYSE: GOLD) and Japan Gold (TSX-V: JG) have kicked off geophysical-gravity surveys in the Asian country’s Hokusatsu Region, as part of joint efforts to uncover the nation’s gold mining potential.

Under a venture formed in February, known as Barrick Alliance, the companies have completed bulk leach extractable gold (BLEG) and rock chip sampling over eight of the 14 targets located in Southern Kyushu Epithermal Gold Province.

The projects, covering a 32,768-hectare area (328 square kms), are in Japan’s largest gold producing region with recorded output of over 11 million ounces.

The regional exploration program, initiated in May, will help the alliance evaluate the overall project portfolio. From there, both companies will determine which areas have anomalous gold showings and potentially fertile large structures.

Barrick has committed to solely fund a two-year initial evaluation phase of 28 out of 30 projects Japan Gold already has in the country.

The Canadian gold giant will also finance a third year of exploration on assets that meet its criteria.

Once the Toronto-based miner completes a pre-feasibility study (PFS), it will earn a 51% interest and may choose to fund a designated project to a bankable feasibility study (BFS). The completion of a BFS will fully carry Japan Gold and earn Barrick a 75% interest in the project after which Japan Gold will retain a 25% interest.

Gold-rich area

Japan Gold has recently expanded its portfolio to reach a total of 30 projects. These cover more than 40 historic gold mines over an area of approximately 1,900 square km, spread across the country’s three largest islands: Hokkaido, Honshu and Kyushu.

The company’s southernmost projects are found on Kyushu Island, where it has 16 gold projects in the area of the Hishikari mine. Significantly, Hishikari has been producing since 1985, generating 7.9 million oz so far at average grades of 30-40 g/t, making it one of the highest-grade deposits under active mining globally.

Japan Gold has attracted interest from other majors, including Newmont (NYSE: NEM) (TSX: NGT), which has a 13% stake in the Vancouver-based junior.

The world’s no. 1 gold producer became involved with Japan Gold in 2018, when Goldcorp (now part of Newmont) provided financing. As part of the deal, Goldcorp was granted a joint venture right of first refusal on two projects, the Ohra-Takamine and the Ikutahara project.

Those assets are excluded from the Barrick Gold strategic alliance.

Metso Outotec SMD mills to boost output at Boliden’s Harjavalta concentrator

BOLIDEN Harjavalta has chosen Metso Outotec’s SMD grinding mills to improve the capacity of its slag concentrator, in Finland, the mining OEM says.

Boliden Harjavalta produces high-quality metals for European industrial customers, churning out 120,000 t of copper and 26,000 t of nickel in 2019.

The purpose of the slag concentrator is to recover copper from the slag produced in the copper smelter and to return it to the copper production cycle as high-quality slag concentrate, Metso Outotec said, with grinding being an essential part of the slag concentration process.

The raw materials of the Boliden Harjavalta smelter consist of concentrates and recycled metals, according to Boliden, with the company’s two mines in Finland – Kylylahti and Kevitsa – providing the smelter with concentrates. Concentrates are also purchased from external mines, Boliden says.

The order has been booked in Metso Minerals’ June quarter 2020 orders received.

Based on tests, Metso SMD (stirred media detritor, specialised for fine grinding applications) was chosen as the grinding technology, Metso Outotec said.

“Maintenance for the SMD is safe and cost-effective thanks to the simple mechanical structure of the mill and the smaller number of moving parts compared to traditional grinding mills,” the company explained.

Timo Sarvijärvi, Metso Outotec’s Head of Mining in the Nordics market area, said the company, at testing stage, noticed slag could be processed very efficiently using SMD technology.

“Now the slag concentrator can process larger amounts of material, without compromising the targets set for copper recovery,” Sarvijärvi said.

China raises initial 2020 rare earth smelting, separation quotas by 10% y/y

CHINA has raised the volume in its first batch of rare earth smelting and separation quotas for 2020 by 10.4% year-on-year, a notice from the country's industry ministry showed on Wednesday.

The quotas, for the processing of rare earth ore into material that can be used by manufacturers, have been set at 63,500 tonnes, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said, versus 57,500 tonnes a year earlier.

Two batches of quotas are issued annually; the first batch, which is usually for the first half of the year, has come out late in 2020, having not been announced with the initial 66,000 tonnes mining output quota in February.

China is the world's dominant producer of rare earths, a group of 17 minerals prized for their use in everything form consumer electronics to military equipment.

The three-year contract with BHP Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) is expected to help expand Aqura’s business model into new markets.

Veris also added that Aqura had signed a five-year communications-as-a-service agreement with gas and electricity giant ATCO.

Together, the two contracts are expected to bring in a combined total of $2.2 million.

Veris chairman Karl Paganin said the new contracts would continue to expand Aqura’s reach in the market as a provider of technology solutions across multiple sectors.

“Securing these contracts with blue-chip customers like BHP and ATCO reflects the continued success in delivering Aqura’s strategy of building our OPEX (operating expense)-friendly solutions. These provide flexibility for customers to engage with Aqura in a more commercially attractive manner,” he said.

“Our program to bring OPEX solutions alongside our CAPEX (capital expenditure) project work is growing not only our addressable market, it also delivers longer term visibility on our revenue streams.

“Aqura’s strategy of internally funding the development of these product suites during FY20 (2020 financial year) is now delivering significant momentum as we continue to grow into new segments of the market and expand our recurring revenue model.

“This is expected to provide a strong foundation for continued growth in FY21 (2021 financial year).”

BHP’s WAIO consists of four processing hubs and five mines that are linked together through a rail network and port facilities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Through its WAIO system, the company processes its ore at the Newman, Yandi, Mining Area C and Jimblebar processing hubs.

BHP has four primary WAIO joint ventures at Mt Newman, Yandi, Mt Goldsworthy and Jimblebar, with an interest of 85 per cent at each mine.

First Quantum to restart operations at Cobre Panama copper mine

CANADIAN miner First Quantum Minerals is set to restart complete production at its Cobre Panama copper operation following a three-month work interruption as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company has received notice from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Panama (MINSA) that the ministry is lifting the temporary suspension of mining activities.

In April this year, First Quantum Minerals received an order from MINSA to temporarily suspend labour activities at the mine as part of a sanitary control measure due to the pandemic.

Cobre Panama, with a 40-year mine life, has proven copper reserves of 3.18 billion tonnes. First Quantum has a 90% stake in the mine.

The Canadian miner will implement a reopening plan which provides for a phased increase of on-site staff, while production is increased at an annual throughput rate of 85 million tonnes per annum.

Currently, about 800 personnel are working on-site. This number will be gradually increased in compliance with Cobre Panama’s reopening plan, which aligns with MINSA guidelines.

Cobre Panama general manager Gordon White said: “We continue to work very closely with MINSA throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, and we are confident that we can adhere to our health protocols which are at the highest international standards.

“Cobre Panama has received support from the employee union UTRAMIPA, the local business community, and from the Government of Panama to reach this milestone.

“We are especially grateful to the dedicated health professionals in the country who have been working to resolve the wider pandemic in Panama whose efforts we will continue to support.”

In March this year, the company reportedly considered the sale of a minority stake in Cobre Panama copper mine to reduce the company’s debt.

Consumption and production of hard coal

THE LATEST figures on the consumption of hard coal in the European Union (EU) show a further annual decline, down to 176 million tonnes in 2019.

Inland consumption of hard coal in the EU decreased steadily during the 1990s and then stabilised at around 300 million tonnes for almost a decade. Following a sharp decline and a brief recovery between 2008 and 2011, consumption has continued to decrease. In 2019, consumption of hard coal was 55% below the level of 390 million tonnes in 1990.

The production of hard coal in the EU has also been falling year on year. In 2019, production stood at 65 million tonnes, 9% below the level in 2018 and 77% less than the 277 million tonnes in 1990.

In 1990, 13 Member States of the current EU were producing hard coal. In 2019, two Member States produced hard coal: Poland (61.6 million tonnes) and Czechia (3.4 million tonnes).

EIA: 2020 U.S. coal production will fall to 501 million tons, 29% drop from 2019

THE U.S. Energy Information Administration once again lowered its projections for 2020 coal production, foreseeing a 29% drop in output compared to the prior year.

The EIA said in its latest “Short-Term Energy Outlook” released July 7 that it expects U.S. coal miners to produce 501 million tons in 2020, compared to 705 million tons in 2019. The energy forecaster said its sinking predictions for coal production were “largely” reflective of declining demand for thermal coal from the domestic power sector and metallurgical coal from the coal export market. The agency also acknowledged the impacts of COVID-19 mitigation efforts, which resulted in mines idling to preserve worker safety.

The agency slightly lowered its expectations for production to rebound in 2021 atop an expected rise in gas prices, asserting output would increase by 7% to 536 million tons. This figure is lower than EIA’s June estimate of 549 million tons to be produced in 2021.

Coal exports are expected to decrease in 2020 by 32% to 63 million tons as Atlantic ports “are seeing decreased demand because of the global economic slowdown,” EIA stated. The agency said it expects exports to increase by 7% in 2021, a “limited” boost held back by declining demand for U.S. coal in India.

EIA also predicted coal prices will decrease in 2020 to $1.98/MMBtu, 4 cents lower than its June forecast. Prices will increase in 2021 to $2.04, EIA said. [Jacob Holzman]
