the firmOur work rests on a fundamenta l pr inc ip le: the mediat ion between engineer ing & archi tectura l cu l ture. I t is our bel ie f that successfu l des igns can only mater ia l ize by fu l ly synthesiz ing bui ld ing technology and archi tectura l sensi t iv i ty. Our approach to space is hence determined by a r igorous understanding of ex ist ing re lat ionships between technique and cul ture, f ree of sty l is t ic l imi tat ions, open to context .
Our designs cover a wide spectrum or archi tectura l serv ices f rom inter iors to master p lanning serv ices for c l ients in both the publ ic and pr ivate sectors. Operat ing as one f i rm with three off ices (Par is , New York and London) our port fo l io of works spans f rom Europe to the Amer icas and inc ludes res ident ia l , corporate, hospi ta l i ty, c iv ic, t ransportat ion, and mixed-use pro jects.
Our reputat ion is bui l t on our abi l i ty to t rans late a c l ient ’s phys ica l needs, aspi rat ion and budget constra ints into memorable designs and spaces because we bel ieve that a long last ing exper ience is a measure of excel lency.

In th is h igh ly preser ved A lp ine va l ley, s tr ingent a rch i tectura l gu ide l ines a l low for l i t t le a rch i tectura l f reedom. Str ic t gu ide l ines are enforced to protect the loca l her i tage but de facto create end less past iche mounta in homes.
To c i rcumvent these l im i tat ions we f i rs t became fami l ia r w i th the ex is t ing h is tor y and cu l ture so as to understand what funct iona l l y drove the des igns. We then integrated th is into our des ign, avo id ing a l l a r t i f ic ia l or obso lete e lements whi le mak ing sure that the bu i ld ing was ent i re ly code compl iant f rom a her i tage standpoint.
The vernacu lar bu i ld ing t ypo logy was one of s tack ing programs: fa rm an ima ls on the ground f loor, fodder on the f loor above and l i v ing/s leep ing quar te rs above. In a s imi la r approach we dev ised the bu i ld ings in programmat ic layers: car park ing, mechan ica l room, sk i s torage on ground f loor. Bedrooms on f loor above and l i v ing quar te rs on the top f loor.
Th is a l lowed to create a progress ive exper ience in the bu i ld ing, f rom darker, compressed spaces to gradua l l y more open, l ight f i l l ed, h igher ce i l ings and greater v iews out, ind icat ing the sh i f t in cu l ture and use, thus creat ing coherence ins ide out & outs ide in.
The base is a l l cast in p lace and exposed concrete and the f loors above a l l wood, structure and c ladd ing. Window open ings gradua l l y open up as the space a l lows for i t .
Ce lebrat ing nature was of course the p innac le. Th is comes as the f ina l exper ience, up on the last f loor, fu l l y f raming the v iew by ex tend ing the bu i ld ing enve lope to the outs ide. So as to protect the exper ience, mater ia l se lect ion is kept at min ima l var iet y.

Manhattan’s Alphabet Ci ty is a t ight ly woven urban fabr ic spanning two centur ies.
Tenements made up the vast major i ty of bui ld ings and as gentr i f icat ion reached the neighborhood in the late 1980s the neighborhood turned into a more gent le mix of middle c lass, student & low income populat ion putt ing great care. But before that A lphabet Ci ty was the epicenter of a v ibrant and radica l ar t is t ic community. We strongly re l ied on th is past ident i ty when designing th is bui ld ing.
Our intent was to create a bui ld ing that offered a strong sense of mass and uni ty for which cast in p lace was the mater ia l of choice.
The window openings on the street facade further stress th is percept ion but a lso introduce a changing rhythm which in turn b lurs one’s understanding of the bui ld ing’s program and f loor d ist r ibut ion.
The bui ld ing is exper ienced as a monol i th ic object wi th facade mater ia ls l imi ted to concrete and wood.

This bui ld ing s i ts on a very large rectangular s i te wi th the shortest s ide fac ing the street . This speci f ic cr i ter ia, combined with the necessi ty to maximize square footage helped us create a typology that responded not only to zoning restr ict ions but a lso created a ser ies of d i f ferent iated bui ld ings envelopes which help break down the overa l l scale.
A tota l of four bui ld ing b locks make up the pro ject . The longest runs North-South to a l low maximum sunl ight exposure to the West, three remain ing b locks run para l le l to the street , opening both to North and South s ides. The far ther the bui ld ing in the s i te, the shorter i t is . Terraces set the bui ld ings back to the East s ide, offer ing a more gent le scale to neighbor ing bui ld ings.
Br ick was the mater ia l of choice in order to int roduce yet another d imension and scale to our design and help, v ia the tact i le propert ies of the mater ia l , create a more int imate scale and v ibrant facades.

A restaurant concept der ived f rom the famous Barcelona market housed under a s ingle great roof st ructure, inspi red us to create an a l l -encompassing atmosphere, not d iss imi lar to the market.
Using only wood, our design intent was to mit igate the changing cei l ing heights (some in excess of 20’ ) wi th one vary ing sur face made up of wood s lats. These would then curve down to extend a long wal ls to create a warm texture, which would gradual ly d isappear as i t reaches down.
A centra l ly located bar becomes the prominent spat ia l e lement and stands out as a v i ta l organ a long with the open k i tchen, opposi te the main seat ing area, therefore surrounding c l ients wi th the two main features of what a tapas restaurant is a l l about.

The places in which we live on a full time basis are layered with memories, furniture, books and objects collected over time.
When designing an apartment as a pied-a-terre, an opportunity to create a site-specific interior opens up. This project started as a blank page with the stated intention for it not to become “layered”.
Because it takes advantage of a 90° sunlight exposure, we focused on creating a flowing experience from room to room, removing most doors in the process.
Light is filtered through white linen curtains, floors are large oak geometric panels and walls are to remain off white.
A selection of 20th and 21st century furniture then started to populate the space: Joris Laarman, Nakashima, Jeanneret, Mathias Bengtsson, Serge Mouille, Garouste & Bonetti, Mathieu Matego, Gio Ponti, Fontana Arte, Max Ingrand, Lina Bo Bardi and a few other pieces designed by us.

Across the street from the Luxembourg gardens, the building sits inside a 17th century hotel particulier courtyard. Man Ray, Hemingway and Jacques Prévert all lived across the street.
The apartment belongs to a French American couple and this is their parisian home. Our brief was to transform the place into a warm & contemporary parisian apartment and allow as much flow between each room.
All windows face West so capturing this (rare) lateral natural lighting from one room to the next was key.
The brief also required to provide mutiple opportunities to show an ecclectic art collection, ranging from antiquities to contemporary works.

An existing duplex will be combined with the top floor of this 5 story building in Soho creating a triplex with sweeping city vistas.
Our design uses existing architectural features of the building to create a sense of unity between exterior and interior spaces, as well as opening the interior volume to create a new visual and spatial connection between the floors.
A sober and restrained material palette enhances calm ambience of the project throughout. Furniture, light fixtures and rugs are all custom designed.

Located in central London, this XIXth century grade II listed terraced home will undergo extensive gut renovation to restore it to its former glory.
A new steel and glass contemporary conservatory is being added in lieu of the existing one to capture the most of natural lighting.
A sensitive combination of mid century furniture will be combined with the original features to create just the right balance.

Located in a grand Haussmannian building, our design for this apartment drew on our interest in contemporary art and film culture to create a series of differentiated contexts which would cascade from one room to the next.
We wanted to immediately break away from neo-classical features when stepping in, using finishes and lighting that could instantly create a theatrical context. The geometric pattern of murals then becomes a guiding hand from one room to another, and offered the base inspiration to custom designed furniture.
The end result is an apartment that offers a variety of spaces and textures weaved together by overlapping perspectives.

Keolis is large publicly owned transportation company with operations all over the world.
This project for their new headquarters focused on conference rooms, VIP lounges, and informal work areas.
Using their existing logo and color chart, our design was reminiscent of Mondrian’s abstract geometric paintings depicting transportation f luxes in New York.
This pattern was then used with dif ferent variations in conference room glass partitions, waiting rooms, f loor coverings and lighting. The design had to allow radically dif ferent environments to coexist and this was achieved by creating specif ic transitory spaces between each zone.
