Assignment Question 1: DATA PREP
Cleanse the UFO Data in Tableau Prep Builder 1. If you do not already have Tableau Prep Builder installed on your machine you may download it
directly from Tableau’s website (https://www.tableau.com/products/prep).
2. Open Tableau Prep and select the Connect to Data button.
3. Select
Microsoft Excel and open the file “LastName_FirstName_2” from wherever you have saved it.
4. Add a Step to your Flow.
5. Under the Recommendations section change [City] Data Role to City and change [State] Data
Role to State/Province by first selecting on the recommendation and then clicking Apply. You

will know a change has been made when it appears in the “Changes” sidebar.
6. Under the Recommendations section select [City] Group and Replace to replace invalid values with
matching values from the data role by first selecting on the recommendation and then clicking
Apply. Then click Done.
7. Under the Recommendations section select [City] Group and Replace to replace invalid values with
null by first selecting on the recommendation and then clicking Apply.
8. Click on the null field under [City] and then to remove rows that contain null values for this field
click on Exclude.

9. Repeat step 8 for [State], [Shape], [Duration], and [Summary] to remove rows that contain null
values for those fields.
10. Add an Output to your Flow.
11. Format your output by selecting the Browse button, naming your file “UFO_Output”, and then
accepting.
12. Run your Flow (if a previous file exist you can override it with your updated data) and select Done.
13. Save your file as “UFOFlow” and exit Tableau Prep Builder.
Upload Cleansed Data to Tableau
Open Tableau and in the Connect Panel’s To a File section, click on “More…” and select the
“UFO_Output” file that you created in the Tableau Prep Builder stage.
