The Parks District stewards approximately 11% of the City of Seattle owned lands and facilities. Part of this responsibility is the monitoring and reparation stewardship of brownfield properties. This environmental position is based at the West Seattle Westbridge facility with oversight responsibilities throughout the Parks District system. Key responsibilities of the position include: overseeing environmental field studies; the collection and analysis field data; archive data management, providing guidance and oversight to parks staff, consultants and contractors; directing the work of permanent and interim environmental analyst and intern staff; collaborating with PARKS stakeholders; facilitating the environmental regulatory compliance of Parks staff, consultants and contractors and upholding all agreements and decrees with County, State and Federal agencies. Work will be performed in an office environment and in cultivated parks as well as precarious terrain including Puget Sound shoreline, streams and lakes often in inclement weather. Job Responsibilities:This independent position functions, with little supervision, the oversight of environmental studies and projects, and handles complex, technically difficult programs, issues, or policies associated with Parks functions or projects that impact the environment. Work includes analysis and compliance activities for various programs and operations; negotiation of mitigation measures with agencies and tribes; preparation, negotiation and administration of consultant agreements; negotiation of settlements with regulatory agencies dealing with environmental compliance issues; serve as liaison with other city departments, government agencies and citizen environmental organizations; interpretation of environmental laws and regulations; public contact/education; and the coordination of environmental and risk assessments of major department projects and programs.
