FROM OUR CHAIRMAN
OCTOBER 2018TACKLE BOX
Chairman’s Report End September 2018
The Albert and Pauline South East Qld. Challenge is on once again
and all the information has been emailed out. It is part of the rules that
each club has 2 boats participate in each comp to be eligible. The 1st
Comp being the Sunshine Coast Spring Shootout which has been delayed
by weather until 2- 4 November 2018.
We had a good month on Life’s Great with the Bar Cod at the deep
drop marks, and thanks to some hints from Jason Bird at our last
meeting we have managed to come home with at least a feed each
trip.
This month has seen a few changes in the water temps out wide, with
temps up to 25 degrees at the shelf. This should mean some game fish
showing up in the usual areas. There have been plenty of Tuna bust up
around the Cape and Hutchies and some schools of Big Yellow Fin at
the shelf out wide along with the odd Striped Marlin being tagged and
some decent Mahi Mahi getting caught.
The Dams are still fishing well with Mick King giving some good
reports of Bass and Yellow belly being caught. Mick and Vaughn Daly
are heading to the Annual Qld. ANSA conference in Bundaberg so we
should hear all about that at the meeting, see you all there.
Stay safe and good fishing.
Noel

Bar Cod Bonanza!Following a talk from Jason 'Birdy' Bird about targeting bar cod on the deep drop, Noel, Graham and Frank went out to try their luck. Graham's went 23.8kg and Franks 6.9kg with Tony picking up another decent sized cod on a subsequent trip (and a lot of green eyed sharks!)

To win the money for the monthly nominated fish inshore or offshore species, simply weigh in the heaviest Cobia or Javelin. All fish weighed, regardless of whether they are in for the ’fish of the month’ must be labelled with the angler’s name and line class. To receive double club points, fish must be tagged or caught on the Club Weekend only and the cards correctly completed and handed in or fish weighed in at M.B.B.C. from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on the Sunday. Prizes for the heaviest ‘fish of the month’ will be awarded at the following club night.
Remember, club fishing weekend starts on midnight on Friday 12th October, finishing on Sunday 14th October with a weigh-in and barbeque at 3.30-4.30pm. This month’s species are Cobia and Javelin.
The next Club Meeting will be held on Monday 8th October at 7pm at the MBBC.

TACKLE BOXA.N.S.A NEWS
OCTOBER 2018
ANSA QLD Update - Mick King
Recently, Jeff Sorrell, Vaughn Daly and I participated in the Bundaberg Sportfishing
Festival 2018. There were 80 plus people there. We had an enjoyable meet and greet at
the Light hotel on the Friday night, then fished Saturday and Sunday morning.
While many fished offshore, we fished the Burnett River. We caught Flatheads, Grunter,
Breams, not so Giant Trevally and Gold Spot Cod. Also caught a heap of big Green
Toads which were in plague proportions and ate every bait and lure they could find. Best
fish was Vaughn’s 760mm Flathead caught and released.
On the Saturday night, all the yearly ANSA award winners were announced.
Sunday afternoon was also the AGM. Nathan Johnston was re-elected as president,
Adam Royle as vice-president, Andrew Doherty is going around again as treasurer and
Mick King elected as Convenor. So our club is well represented at ANSA Qld level. The
2019 AGM will be hosted by Sunshine Coast Sportfishing Club.
Sunday October 14th will be the Great Alvey Challenge. The object is to have a fish using
your Alvey reels for the chance to win some prizes. There is a small $10 registration fee.
Follow the links on the ANSA website to view the rules and register. It is also National
Gone Fishing Day so we should be fishing anyway so get involved.
Currently in the Champion Club we are in 5th place with 20 species. Special mention to
Ryan Grech, he has been catching and submitting fish including some unusual species
like Diamond Trevally and a Hairtail.
If anyone need assistance in regards to navigating the ASNA website or submitting their
captures, feel free to ask me.
Want to go in the draw to win a $1,000 givt voucher from ANSA’s kind sponsors at Motackle? We thought so! All you need to do is catch a fish with a pink ANSA QLD tag, collect some details, take a photo and enter it into the ANSA online recapture form.
