The Rainiers scored three times in the second and third innings and added two more in seventh and eighth innings to cruise to a second consecutive victory. Ketel Marte, Franklin Gutierrez, Carlos Rivero, and Jabari Blash all contributed two hits to the effort. For the second night in a row, every member of the starting lineup recorded a hit. SNOW IN SPRING: Rainiers right-handed reliever Forrest Snow, a University of Washington product, made his season debut last night. This weekend UW lost their annual series to Washington State 2-1, over the course of his three-year career in purple from 2008-10, Snow’s Huskies went 4-6 against their cross-state rivals. REFUSE TO LOSE: With last night’s win, the Rainiers guaranteed at least a split of their season- opening series. Tacoma has now either won or split their first series of the season in 10 of the last 12 years. The last opening series win for the Rainiers was in 2009, when they took 3-of-4 from Sacramento on the road. Tacoma last swept an opening opponent in 2006, going 4-0 against Colorado Springs at home. KICKHAM WHEN THEY’RE DOWN: Between 2013 and 2014, Rainiers starting pitcher Mike Kickham has made 47 PCL starts, going 15-15 with a 4.38 ERA (126ERx259.0IP) and 7.68 K/9. Over that span, Kickham has made two starts against El Paso, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA (4ERx9.1IP). ROUND TRIPPERS: Tacoma batters have hit a home run in each of their first three games to open the season, a feat the team has not accomplished since 2013 when Alex Liddi and Mike Zunino sent out two home runs a piece in the first trio of games against Fresno. WE’VE GOT THE RUNS: The Rainiers have scored 31 runs through their first three games, the most of any three games to open a season since at least 2004. The 31 runs are also more than any one opening series in that span - the 28 runs scored in the opening series’ of 2009, 2006, and 2004 are the closest. EVERYBODY CHIP IN: During Friday night’s game, every member of the Rainiers starting lineup recorded at least one hit, run, and RBI. This is the first time that has occurred since 2005. There have been numerous near-misses in that time frame, including Apr. 25, 2005, when only second baseman Ramon Santiago failed to record a hit. WELCOME TO THE PCL: Outfielder Patrick Kivlehan hit a home run in his first career Triple-A game Friday night. The solo dinger came in the ninth inning off Mike McCoy, a regular position player who played second base during the season opener on Thursday. He has gone 3-9 with four runs, three RBI, one home run, and two walks in his first pair of games. Kivlehan, the No. 4 ranked prospect by Baseball America, has 48 career minor league home runs and sent out 20 last year between High Desert and Jackson. QUEST FOR 4000: The Rainiers need 15 victories to record 4,000 all-time franchise wins. Since 1960, Tacoma has put together a record of 3985-3960 (.502). The Rainiers record as an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners is 1462-1404 (.510). BIG TEXAS INNING: The Rainiers seven-run second inning Friday night was the most runs scored by Tacoma in a single inning since Apr. 16, 2014 against Salt Lake, when Tacoma posted seven runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-8 win. Last year, the Rainiers went 12-1 when posting a big inning (five or more runs). REUNITED AT LAST: Rainiers manager Pat Listach and pitching coach Jaime Navarro played together as part of the 1992, 93, and 94 Milwaukee Brewers. The two shared a sucessful 1992 season - Listach earned American League Rookie of the Year honors after hitting .290 (168x579), and Navarro went 17-11 on the mound with a 3.33 ERA (91ERx246.0IP). The 1992 Brewers went 92-70 and finished second in the American League East, falling only four games shy of the playoffs. Tacoma hitting coach Cory Snyder went 0-for-2 in his Major League career against Navarro. The two faced off on August 11, 1989 - Snyder was with Cleveland, Navarro with Milwaukee. Snyder grounded out to second base in the first inning, reached on an E5 in the third inning, and grounded out to shortstop in the fifth inning. The Indians won the game 5-0, with Navarro suffering the loss. Sunday, April 12 at 12:05 P.M.
