Why say Yes to TACT?
TACT’s Aims & Objectives To provide:
• a fully-interactive knowledge-based training and competency assessment tool.
• scenarios representing a typical request received in a hospital-based BT lab.
• scenarios covering the main areas from BSH guidelines :• Sample and request acceptance
• ABO & RhD interpretation
• Antibody screen & Antibody identification
• Component selection
• complex cases:• One containing an un-interpretable (UI) ABO and/or D group
• Where the only correct red cell component selection is group O D Negative, except where the patient’s blood group is O D Negative
• Where the selection of red cell components requires adherence to a patient’s specific requirements.
Setup Challenges and Solutions
Trial and Error - TACT was a new system• Participants need connection to a printer • Internet platform – contact Claire we use Google Chrome • Blocked pop ups / screens popped up behind– incomplete exercises
Challenge Solution
Central co-ordination across the network (13 sites)
Lead TACT Administrator :- communicates all updates- TACT working group liaison
Monitoring of 80+ staff results Local administrators (BT seniors)
TACT Process in TDL
• Annual training log - managed by BT Seniors
• Staff provide evidence
• Each staff member to PASS four TACT scenarios per month
• Senior staff monitor staff progress and provide extra training if required.

Management Benefits
Managers dashboard display enables:
• monitoring of performance and participation
• a full drill down into each participation completed by the participants.
• review completed cases and allows editing to results to take into account local policies and practices.
• the ability to view the request form, cassette images, panel profile sheets and stock fridge contents

• Allows learning from virtual cases where scenarios are complicated by antibodies , blood group anomaly or transfusion requirements
