The club is believed to have been formed in 1892 as John Smith’s FC. It wasn’t until 1923 that the Tadcaster Albion AFC name was adopted. In the early years the club played in the local York League. In 1948 Albion won the York League. They continued competing in the York League during the 1950’s & 60’s.

Tadcaster Albion, in the early days, played home games on the site of the cricket ground on Station Road, before moving to the Ings ground, near to where the present Samuel Smith Brewery Packaging Block now stands. Changing facilities were in the town, at the rear of the Falcon Public House on Chapel Street, and it was a common Saturday afternoon sight to see nets, corner flags, buckets, oranges, players and officials trekking through the town.

Down the years the club has played in several leagues. In early times, Barkston Ash and later still the Yorkshire and Northern Counties East Leagues.

Football continued on the Ings ground until 1960, when the club moved 100 yards up river to its present home at the Park.

In 1973 the club joined the Yorkshire League Division 3 and were promoted in 1975 & 1977 to reach Division 1, relegation was to follow in 1979 & 1980.

In 1982/83 they became a founding member of the Northern Counties East League, originally in the NCEL Division Two North before league reorganisations led them to Division One in 1991. They rarely finish in the top half of the league in the 1990’s and finished bottom in 2001/02 & 2003/04.

At the start of 2004/05, Jim Collis became manager and at this point fortunes on the pitch started to improve dramatically. In his first season, Albion finished 5th in the league, the following year a 3rd place finish meant promotion was missed by one point.

Jimmy Reid took over as manager in 2006, but his time was blighted by off the field problems. An attempted hostile takeover by dissident commit-tee members took a massive amount of money to fight. Then in Nov 2007, an attempted arson attack on the clubhouse caused a lot of damage.

Paul Marshall took over at the start of 2008/09, in his first season he played mostly local players and the team struggled and finished 17th.

In 2009/10, with an influx of a few new key players, Albion won the NCEL Division One title.

In 2010, Rob Northfield, took over as Chairman of Tadcaster Albion (2010) Ltd, and the club became a company limited by guarantee.

Albion finished fourth in their first season in the NCEL Premier Division and won the NCEL President’s Cup, beating Farsley AFC 5-1 in the final. That was followed by an 8th place finish in 2011/12 and 6th in 2012/13.

In the 2013/14 season Rob Northfield resigned a few days before the start of the season and i2i Sports Ltd agreed to take effective control of the club and company, with Matthew Gore becoming the new Chairman. In 2014/2015 the Brewers lead the NCEL Premier for most of the season, but a poor run of games in March led to them finally finishing in third.

An excellent run in the FA Vase saw them make history by making it through to the Quarter Final of the FA Vase where they drew a record breaking crowd of 1,307, but were narrowly beaten by Highworth Town.

The Brewers also broke many other records throughout the season – taking more than 200 fans away to Armthorpe Welfare on a cold Tuesday night where they went on to win 10-0.

At the end of the season, the club opted not to renew their contract with manager Paul Marshall, and two weeks later former Harrogate Railway boss Billy Miller was unveiled as the club’s new manager.

TAFC Directors’ Notes

A big welcome to our opponents Cleethorpes Town who come to the i2i Stadium having hit a rich vein of form in recent months. Since the New Year, Cleethorpes have won 10, drawn three and lost three, which has seen them climb to third place; level with Bridlington Town and snapping at our heels.

Cleethorpes enjoyed a solid 4-0 win against Pontefract Collieries on Saturday and have also had two recent 3-0 wins over Barton Town Old Boys and Staveley Miners Welfare. So we are very aware of the calibre within their team – particularly when you look back to our recent run of defeats at the hands of The Owls.

We were naturally disappointed with the defeat to Clipstone last week, but this stage of the season is never straightforward and the character shown by the players since the defeat gives us great hope for the title run-in.

Every time we’ve been beaten this season, we’ve bounced back harder than ever. The players have done that wonderfully well with a 5-0 win over Nostell Miners Welfare on Saturday, followed by a 2-1 win over Grimsby Borough in the League Cup. We’ve no doubt that we’ll see the same fantastic attitude on display tonight.

Thank you to everyone who came down to the i2i Stadium on Tuesday to welcome Jeff Stelling on his Men United March. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we’re building here at Taddy to some of the most respected football presenters and commentators in the game. To see Chris

TAFC Manager’s Notes

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to today’s game against Cleethorpes Town FC. We hope they enjoy their stay at the i2i stadium and have a safe journey home after the game.

Midweek saw us make the long journey across to Grimsby Borough for our 4th round cup tie. The result was extremely rewarding and keeps our hopes alive on two fronts. Grimsby’s league position, although a true reflection of their season, is not a true reflection of their current squad. Having drafted a number of players from teams above them they were a stern test. With goals from Nick Black and the extra time winner from Adam Baker, we can now look forward to the draw and a place in the quarter finals.

Attentions today turn to our league campaign. With ten games to go, we have given ourselves a really good

chance of being in a position to win the league. The lads have taken 27/33 points since the Christmas break. We are really dealing in fine margins. The league will be decided over the next ten games and you can be assured, we the management and the players are prepared for the challenges ahead. We will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit for excellence.

It is going to be a rollercoaster of emotions and there will be ups and downs. We can all play our part, I was asked the other day: “how important is the support?” Well, it’s more important than it’s ever been. You can all help. Be loud and be proud of our achievements so far. The roar needs to lift the roof off the place.

Matt played in the Premier League with Leicester City before signing for Leeds in 2006 – where he went on to make 52 appearances, scoring four goals. Matt has also played for Brighton & Hove Albion and Colchester United, and spent the 2014-15 season playing under Billy Miller at EvoStik Division One side Harrogate Railway.

Richard Lawrence Performance Analyst

Richard assists the management team by providing real time performance analysis both during and after the game. Richard previously worked with Billy Miller at Harrogate Railway FC.

Billy Miller Manager

Billy is the Section Leader / Sports Lecturer in FE and HE at Askham Bryan College where he specialises in sports coaching. He began his management career whilst serving in the Army, running the U18, Army Representative Side (Cyprus), Combined Services Side (Cyprus) as well as coach educating across the Level 1 and Level 2 courses. On leaving the Army he joined the academy team at Darlington Football Club.

After a successful year he joined Liversedge Football Club where he enjoyed 3 years before moving to Harrogate Railway Athletic FC, guiding them to their highest ever finish of 8th place on a limited budget.

He has a proven track record of moving players up the leagues or indeed back into the pro game, including Josh Windass, Jake Lawlor, Lamin Colley, Nathan Cartman and Rob Youhill amongst them. He joined Tadcaster in May 2015.

Lucy Lendhill Physio

Lucy joined Tadcaster Albion in 2014 as Assistant Physio-therapist working with Andy Calvert. Lucy took over the reins as Physio when Andy left. She is a local Tadcaster girl running her own business called LLSports Therapy. She studied at York St John University.

Paul Clayton 1st Team Coach

Paul joined Tadcaster Albion as First Team Coach in January 2016. Paul is a UEFA A Licensed coach who also works with Bradford City Academy. He was Assistant Manager at Thackley until October 2015, but left due to work commitments.

Gary Stevens GOALKEEPER

Gary Stevens – Gary is a vastly experienced and com-petent goalkeeper who first came to Tadcaster Albion’s attention when he played against the club for Highworth Town in the Quarter Final of the FA Vase. Gary, who previously played for Cardiff City Academy, Radstock Town and Purton FC, kept an impressive 23 clean sheets last season and has recently relocated to the Yorkshire area.

Leon Wrigglesworth GOALKEEPER

Goalkeeper Leon has previously played for York City Academy, Tadcaster Albion and Pickering Town, and re-joins the club to provide cover for Gary Stevens.

Andy Milne DEFENDER

Andy joined Leeds United Academy at the age of nine – before going on to become Head Boy and Captain of the Under-18s. Around this time he also obtained international caps for Scotland U18s & U19s. After a loan spell at Darlington, Andy left Leeds and went on to play for Altrincham in the Conference, as well as Barrow, Halifax and Scarborough. Last season’s Players’ AND Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Matt Heath DEFENDER

Right Back Jordan started his football career with Preston North End Academy before going on to play for Shrewsbury Town and Cadiz CF in Spain’s Segunda Division B. Most recently, he played for Harrogate Railway before opting to follow his former manager Billy Miller to Tadcaster.

Liam Ormsby MIDFIELD

Liam started his playing career with Barnsley before joining Harrogate Town in the summer of 2008. After spells with Ossett Town, Pontefract Collieries, Garforth Town and Albion Sports, he joined Tadcaster in 2014 where he went on to win the Manager’s Player of the Year Award. Liam is calm and collected when taking penalties and scored 12 goals in the 2014/15 season.

Josh Barrett MIDFIELD

Josh began his footballing career at Leeds United before moving to York City FC as a teenager where he remained until he was 16. Josh, who has also previously played for Dunnington, is an explosive winger who joined The Brewers in 2013. On his day, Josh is unplayable. He scored nine goals in the 2014/15 season.

Nick Thompson MIDFIELD

Former York City player Nick is a Steven Gerrard-esque player who is popular with fans for his box to box displays in the centre of midfield. Nick was captain of the York City youth team until 2010 when he joined Tadcaster. He was the Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2011-12 and has scored over 30 goals in the last four seasons.

Jason Mycoe DEFENDER/MIDFIELD

Jason is a tough tackling defensive midfielder who brings versatility to the squad being able to play at centre-back and either full-back positions. Previous clubs include Leeds United, Barton Town Old Boys, Ossett Albion, Ossett Town and Harrogate Railway.

Ryan Woodhead DEFENDER

Ryan is a full-back by trade who is a tenacious defender and clever going forward. He is part of the i2i Academy setup and recently joined from Pickering Town. Ryan has made two starting appearances for the first team away at Goole and Cleethorpes Town gaining valuable experience.

Gregg is an old-fashioned defender who brings a wealth of experience to Taddy’s backline having played in the Conference North with North Ferriby United where he recently won the FA Trophy. Previous clubs include Buxton, Halifax and Clitheroe.

George Conway MIDFIELD

Former Huddersfield Town professional George is an outright traditional speedy winger. He is a former Scotland Youth International who has also played for Workington Town and Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

Jimmy Beadle MIDFIELD

Jimmy is a goal-scoring midfielder who has previously played for York City, Whitby Town and Scarborough Town, and has also had spells abroad in Sweden and Norway. Jimmy joined Scarborough Athletic in December 2012 and went on to help the club win promotion from the NCEL in his first season. In the 2014/15 season he scored 20 goals.

Dan is a goal scoring left winger who can also play as a striker. He is a fast and powerful player who is at his best when running at defenders. Casey Stewart STRIKER

Casey is an exciting prospect who plays as an attacking midfielder/forward and was recently been signed up by the first-team. He is yet to make an appearance in the first-team squad, but plays for the Tadcaster Albion (i2i Academy) U21s on a regular basis.

Nick Black STRIKER

Nick is a strong-running forward with close control skills and an eye for goal. At more than 6ft tall, Nick is a major presence in the air and isn’t afraid to battle with the back line. Previous clubs include Selby Town and Garforth Town where he scored 12 goals last season from the right wing.

Adam Baker STRIKER/MIDFIELD

Adam was a Leeds United youngster who moved to Bradford City where he stayed for eight years – signing as a professional at 18. Adam was in the 2013 Bradford City squad that reached Wembley twice and is hoping to replicate that success with Tadcaster Albion in the FA Vase. Most recently, he has played at Harrogate Railway where he scored 12 goals in the last four months of the season.

Alfie Beestin STRIKER

Alfie is a young promising striker who has raw pace and certainly knows where the goal is. He also part of the i2i academy and has recently broken into the first team squad, but is yet to make an appearance in a competitive match.

Carl Stewart STRIKER

Carl first joined Tadcaster Albion before going on to have spells with Pickering Town, Bridlington Town and Ossett Town. He returned in 2013 and was the club’s top scorer in the 2013/14 season, scoring 32 goals (a club record).

Josh Greening STRIKER

Josh is a pacey striker/winger who left Pickering Town to join Tadcaster in 2014. He has previously played for Leeds United Academy, Scarborough Athletic and Bridlington Town, and has a great eye for goal, which saw him make Taddy history last season when he scored three hat-tricks in three games. Last season’s top scorer with 30 goals.

Marcel Chigumira STRIKER

Marcel is an extremely exciting prospect. Similar to the likes of Wilfried Zaha, he normally features as a wide- forward. He has raw pace, ability and trickery which is thrilling to watch. He is a vital member of the i2i Academy and has recently been signed up by the first-team.

CLEETHORPES TOWN FC“THE OWLS”

Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team’s first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded as Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With over 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place. In

addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank.

The 2011-12 season saw the Owls not only become champions of the Lincs League but also win the Challenge Cup. Additionally the club was accepted into the Northern Counties East League.

Our first season in the NCEL saw us

finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at Christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7

points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

In 2014-15 the club started life out in the NCEL Premier Division in slow fashion and with a mountain of Cup games fell behind the main pack. But once the FA Cup exploits had finished, we went on a run of 11 then 9 games without defeat

which saw us climb the league table and had the rest looking over their shoulders. We finished the campaign in 4th place, our highest ever position and also got to the NCEL League Cup Final which we narrowly lost.

Cleethorpes Town represented the Northern Counties East League in July 2015 in the Toolstation Cup in Bristol where they played Willand Rovers. A nine-goal thriller ensued and thanks to

a hat-trick from Danny Trott and a brace from Marc Cooper the Owls lifted the trophy.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfill their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire’s most successful lower league football club. With plans in place for a new stadium back at the true home of Cleethorpes Town Football Club, at the Linden Homes

Club, it is a truly exciting time for the Owls.

Today we welcome the fans, players and officials of Cleethorpes Town. The Owls are having another good season in the NCEL Premier and currently stand in 3rd place with 70 points from 34 games played. Last season was their debut season in the NCEL Premier and finished in a superb 4th position in the table. Away from home this season, they have had 10 wins and 2 draws from their 15 games played. Their leading goalscorer is Marc Cooper with 29 goals in all competitions.

On Wednesday evening, they had a 3-0 win at home against Liversedge to go 5 points from the top of the table, and just 3 points behind The Brewers but having played 2 games more. The away game with The Brewers back in October was won 1-0 by Cleethorpes Town with a late goal by Marc Cooper. League Leaders Handsworth Parramore play this afternoon at Parkgate whilst Bridlington Town at away at Pontefract Collieries. I predict a very competitive game afternoon this ending in a 2-2 draw.

Head 2 Head Cleethorpes Town FCHaving only been members of the Northern Coun-ties East Football League (NCEL) since 2012, Cleethorpes Town have not had many encounters with the Brewers. However, they have enjoyed 100% success in the four meetings between the clubs.

On a Tuesday night in December 2014, the Owls visited the i2i Stadium for an NCEL Premier Division match and wiped the smiles off the faces of the majority of the 286 crowd, with a 3-0 victory. Louis Grant, who has joined Grimsby Borough this week, Denny Ingram (own goal) and Marc Cooper were the scorers.

On a Thursday night last April, two nights after a crucial league game, the Brewers again welcomed Cleethorpes Town to Tadcaster. On this occasion, it was for the NCEL League Cup semi final but the outcome was the same. Albion trailed 0-4 at half-time, with Brody Robertson and Marc Cooper both scoring two goals. A late Josh Greening goal was little

consolation for the Brewers fans in the crowd of 305.

Two days later, Tadcaster made the trip to Lincolnshire for a must win league game against the Owls, in front of 178 fans. Calum Ward’s early penalty put the Brewers ahead but three second half goals - two for Louis Grant and one for Brody Robertson - turned the game in the host’s favour. A late Andy Milne goal brought the scoring to an end and the final result was a 3-2 win for the home team.

Earlier this season, Albion again came back from Cleethorpes Town empty handed after a 0-1 defeat, watched by a crowd of 182. Marc Cooper scored the winner - his fourth goal against the Brewers - in the 86th minute.

Hopefully, today will eventually bring a win for the Brewers against the Owls.

Taddy Eventually Put Nostell To Bed With Late Flurry Of Goals

Tadcaster Albion eventually wore down a tough Nostell Miners Welfare side to keep the pressure on league leaders Handsworth Parramore.

Andy Milne scrambled over the line from a corner to give The Brewers a slender lead at the break. Nostell then ran out of the steam in the second half and a couple of inspired substitutions from Tad led to a flurry of late goals.

Tadcaster Albion boss Billy Miller made three changes to the side that lost to Clipstone in midweek with Gary Stevens, Jimmy Beadle and Nick Black all coming back into the starting eleven in place of Leon Wrigglesworth, Nick Thompson and Adam Baker.

It’s a decent setup at Nostell with a pitch that’s in superb condition and on a nippy afternoon, the deadlock was broken after just ten minutes.

Jonathan Greening’s teasing corner was flicked on by a faintest of touches by Jimmy Beadle and scrambled over the line by centre-back Andy Milne for his fourth of the season.

The home side reacted positively after going a goal behind with Dev Morton and Simon Poole both hitting the target but not testing Gary Stevens.

It was a reasonably uneventful first half at the Welfare with both sides probing without creating any real problems for one another. The home side did try and get back into the game, and they did find the back of the net, illegally though.

Matt Johnson lofted the free-kick into the danger area and Ryan Donoghue channelled his inner ‘Maradona’ for a split second. No he didn’t dribble past five and score, he stuck his hand in the air and handballed it into the back of the net. He wasn’t fooling anyone and the goal was obviously disallowed.

teed up Jimmy Beadle who went for an audacious volley from 25 yards which flew narrowly wide of the mark.

At the start of the second half, defender Gregg Anderson came close to doubling the Brewers’ lead. Jonathan Greening’s corner led to some pinball in the six yard box before Anderson’s blasted shot was deflected just over.

Nostell were never really threatening Taddy’s lead but they did nearly equalise however it wasn’t through a black and yellow shirt though. Ryan Sharrocks’ near post free-kick was awkwardly sliced behind him by Taddy skipper Jimmy Beadle but Gary Stevens did superbly to react and push it out for a corner.

Every time Nostell did work the ball well or found themselves in a dangerous area, Andy Milne or Gregg Anderson were on hand to sweep up.

The watching on Taddy fans were murmuring “we need a second goal” and we did as the second half ticked rapidly away and the longer it went on, the more Nostell start to believe they can take something from the match.

With twenty minutes gone in the second half, Jimmy Beadle had a glorious chance to put the game virtually to bed. Josh Greening raced through on goal but opted to cut back and roll the ball sideways to the onrushing Beadle whose effort was well stopped by Neil Bennett.

When Nostell did properly test Gary Stevens, Andy Milne was on the ball reacting first and putting in a last ditch tackle to keep the Brewers in front.

With less than twenty minutes to go, Billy Miller decided to make two substitutions, bringing on Adam Baker and Carl Stewart and this was the key for unlocking a flurry of goals.

Josh Greening found himself running unmarked up the by-line towards goal before pulling back to Carl Stewart whose rasping strike was pushed away by Bennett.

Tadcaster did in fact double their lead from the resulting cornerwhich gave them that

breathing space. It was Jonathan Greening with another perfect corner kick which dropped onto Nick Black’s right-foot and the attacker side-footed powerfully into the roof of the net for his ninth goal of the campaign.

With fifteen minutes to go it was well and truly game over now as Taddy turned it on and netted three late goals which saw them cruise to victory in the end.

The third goal of the afternoon started out with Jonathan Greening spraying it out to the right-hand side to Adam Baker who beat his man and sent in an inviting cross and Josh Greening does not say no to them, even with his head, powering in from three yards out.

Carl Stewart should have got on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute as Dan Clayton curled a gorgeous ball around the Nostell defence to Stewart who got the ball stuck under his feet slightly before the chance pass.

Gary Stevens was making his return from injury after missing Tuesday night’s match and he pulled off another decent to keep the clean sheet. The stopper was out in a shot to thwart substitute Fidel Mhlolo.

Carl Stewart did incidentally get on the scoresheet moments later with a stunning solo goal. The striker picked the ball up out on the left wing, he then surged in-field evading three players before arrowing a precise shot into the bottom right corner.

The fifth and final goal was scored in the final minute as Josh Greening scored his 20th goal of the season. Carl Stewart held the ball up well, waiting for more white shirts to flood forward before brilliantly reversing the ball in behind to the rapid Adam Baker who squared perfectly to Josh Greening who again could not miss from seven yards out with the goal gaping.

The Brewers stay second behind Handsworth Parramore but have a game in hand. Ten massive games to go.

The Northern Counties East Football League (NCEL) continued to have 40 members in the 2011/12 season.

At the end of the 2010/11 season, Farsley were promoted from the NCEL to the Northern Premier League (NPL) Division One North, with Retford United moving to the NCEL Premier Division, having resigned from the NPL.

Within the NCEL, Dinnington Town and Hallam were relegated from the Premier Division and replaced by Barton Town Old Boys and Staveley Miners Welfare from Division One.

Both Leeds Carnegie and Brodsworth Welfare folded at the end of the 2010/11 season and their places in the NCEL Division One were taken by Albion Sports and Worksop Parramore from the West Riding County Amateur League and Central Midlands League, respectively.

Pre-season started in Tadcaster with a 0-5 defeat by a York City team, who would win promotion back to the Football League at the end of the season. Matty Blair and Ashley Chambers, who scored in the play off final against Luton Town at Wembley, were on target in front of 820 fans.

After the success of the previous season, the Brewers were hoping for another campaign at the top end of the NCEL Premier Division.

The league season started with a couple defeats - 2-4 at Hall Road Rangers and 0-1 against Scarborough Athletic - but it was to get much better.

The Brewers then put together an unbeaten run of 13 games - 11 wins and two draws. Highlights of that sequence were a 6-1 victory over Nostell Miners Welfare, a 2-2 draw at leaders Retford United, a 4-1 win against Maltby Main, with a Steve Jeff hat-trick, and a 2-1 triumph at Bridlington Town. The goalscorer for Bridlington was Josh Greening.

The unbeaten run came to an end with a 1-2 loss at Scarbor-ough Athletic, after leading 1-0.

Albion returned to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Hall Road Rangers on Boxing Day and a 3-0 win at Nostell Miners Welfare on 2nd January, when a Sweden bound Jamie Hopcutt scored a hat-trick.

Slightly over half way through the league season, after the Nostell Miners Welfare victory, the Brewers were in second place, two points behind the leaders Retford United, with two games in hand.

Disappointingly, the league season then fell apart for the Brewers, with only two wins in the next 14 games. This included

heavy home defeats against Retford United (0-3), Bridlington Town (1-4), Arnold Town (0-3) and Barton Town Old Boys (1-5).

The season did end on a high note, with victories in the last three games - 3-0 against relegated Selby Town, 3-1 at Barton Town Old Boys, a fortnight after the 1-5 loss, and 3-1 over Staveley Miners Welfare.

The Brewers eventually slipped to eighth place, with 67 points from 38 games - 18 points behind champions Retford United.

Carl Stewart was the leading scorer, with 16 goals in all competitions for the Brewers, followed by Danny Gray (12) and Nick Thompson (9).

The average attendance at Albion’s home NCEL games dropped slightly to 107. The biggest crowds were against Scarborough Athletic (324), Retford United (226), Pickering Town (168) and Bridlington Town (154) but only 49 turned up for the visit of Arnold Town.

The Brewers started their attempt to retain the President’s Cup with a 6-0 thrashing of Division One club Yorkshire Amateur. Staveley Miners Welfare were then beaten 4-3 in the second round, before the run came to an end with a 0-1 loss at Barton Town Old Boys in the semi final.

The second round of the League Cup brought Premier Division champions Retford United to Tadcaster and a 1-3 defeat for the home team.

Guiseley ended any hopes of success for the Brewers in the West Riding County Cup, when they clinched a 2-0 home win in a first round tie.

Having reached the fourth round in the previous season, Albion were exempt from the FA Vase until the second round. Unfortunately, they were then given a tough away draw at Whitley Bay, who had lifted the trophy in the previous three seasons. The Northern League team won 4-1 in front of a crowd of 516.

Top scorer Carl Stewart scored in all of the season’s FA Cup ties, starting with both goals in a 2-1 extra preliminary round win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare. Another narrow 3-2 victory followed in the preliminary round at Pontefract Collieries, to set up a first round qualifying tie at home against NCEL Premier Division rivals Scarborough Athletic. The Brewers won 3-0 in front of 472 fans.

In the second round qualifying, the high flying Conference North club, FC Halifax Town, were the opponents at The Shay. The Shaymen trailed 0-1 with five minutes remaining but came back to win 2-1, watched by a crowd of 1,002.

Our U21s play in the West Riding County FA Floodlit League (Central). During the 2014/15 season, they also made it to the Semi Final of the West Riding Floodlit League Cup. The players, who are aged 16 and over, train between 1 and 10 hours a week and also compete in regular development friendlies. Many of these friendlies are against youth teams from local professional clubs such as Leeds United and York City – giving each of our players a unique insight into the UK’s football system. Our U21 coaches Mike Morton and Simon Collins not only have their FA Level 3 (UEFA B) qualification, but they also have experience of coaching with professional clubs such as Manchester City and Leeds United.
