Class notes from two weekends

These are just summary notes of the lectures. For complete rulings and evidence (daleel) details, please rely on tafseer and materials from Al-Maghrib. If you notice any errors or recommend changes, please contact Naveen: [email protected]. May Allah swt guide us all.

May Allah swt forgive our errors; increase us in our taqwa, ilm and faith-based actions.

Introduction to Surah Fatiha:

1. Another name for the Quran: Umm-al-Quran, umm-al-kitaab. As saba-ul-maathaani – the 7 oft-repeated 2. Where was it revealed? Asbaab-un-nuzoor – the reason/ situation Ayahs revealed in – reason for revelation 3. Studying the Quran. How do you motivate yourself? Tafseer is motivational. Learning the Quran and Sunnah is like learning how to fish. 4. Fatiha is a rukun in salah. Mandatory to recite in salah. It is a ruqiyah. It is a healing. Recite in hope of bringing shifah, seeking healing.

Reciting Surah Fatiha for deceased is bidah. Ayah 1: 5. Ayah 1: Aaoodobillah is like a shelter from the harsh weather. You have done istha’aadaa – seeking shelter from the shaitan. Shaitan is weak

if we seek the power of Allah swt. Shaitan gets stronger if we do bidah. 6. McDonalds says over 1 billion served. Shaitan has influenced trillions. He has many years of experience – knows all the tricks. Knows how to

influence people. Snooze button is the shaitan button. Simple technique. You say I still have time, I still have time – and then the your fajr is missed. That is the shaitan. Overeating is also from the shaitan.

7. How do you kill a vampire? Holy water, garlic etc, silver bullet, sunlight, cross. How do we know these details? We are programmed by the TV. Why do we even know this?

8. How do you stop shaitan? By saying aaoodobillah Ayah 2: 9. Second Ayah – al hamd do lillah. First Hadith in Imam Malik: You have to know your destination. If you don’t intend anything – you don’t get

anything. Make intention to learn for pleasing, or for getting 110% on exam. 10. Bismillah hir rahman ir raheem. This is your intention. Doing it for the sake of Allah. 11. If you help out a poor person, you are doing it for Allah’s sake. Not for the poor person, not for your mom or good feelings, but just for Allah.

There is no confusion for Muslims – the only intention is for Allah. 12. Why would you want to read the Quran?

a. What are some of the haram intentions? Rhythmic tone, for bragging rights, compulsion, celebrity Quran reader – being paid money, reading to prove Quran wrong like an Orientalist.

13. Definition of a munafiq’s salah or recitation: seeks no reward for their good deeds, and expects no punishment, fears no punishment. Prays when someone is around – not when alone.

14. Themes you see in Surah Fatiha: Shaikh feedback:

a. Aqeeda – belief in Allah b. Ibaadaa – worship of Allah c. Shariaah – laws of Allah d. Belief in the hereafter e. Belief in the characteristics of Allah f. Allah is the only one is to be worshipped g. Turn only to Allah for help h. Dua’a – this is a dua of guidance, and Allah is telling us we always need to be asking for this – everyday in every part of our salah.

Stability of faith i. Protecting oneself from those who earned his anger and went astray – went through their whole lives careless and neglectful. Did

not seek out what Allah wanted from them j. Miracle of this Surah and the Quran – nobody gets bored of reciting it. Nothing like that in whole world. Nothing can do this –except

the Quran – keeps bringing us happiness. When you’re down and sad, recite Quran – has a sweetness in it 15. Class feedback:

a. Definition of the right path b. Thankfulness c. Day of judgment

-2-

d. People of the book e. Purpose of life f. Tawheed - Oneness of Allah, only Provide g. Attributes of Allah h. Issue of guidance – Correct path, Seeking forgiveness, furqan – to separate guidance from non-guidance i. Choices j. Dua’a

16. Ayah 2 continued: Alhamdolillah. All praise and thanks to Allah. Ability to sleep, our bed – all from Allah. A person wanted to commit

disobedience, commit haram, so went and asked a Shaikh about it. So the sheikh said; fine do it, then don’t eat from any of Allah’s food. But boy said all food belongs to Allah. Then don’t take shelter from any of Allah’s shelter. But boy said all shelter belongs to Allah. Fine, then when the angel of death comes, don’t go. Well, I can’t do that, I can’t stop death. And when the hellfire keepers want to take you to hell, say I don’t want to go. Boy said I couldn’t do that. So then why can we commit haram?

17. A very intense Ayah: They know the outward, apparent things of the dunya, but when it comes to the hereafter, they are ghaafiloon – heedless.

18. Non-Muslims come to this conclusion through “scientific” observation. 1) Even in financial planning books, and books like the Quick Millionaire, by David Bach, there’s always a chapter on charity. Give away from your money, and you’ll get money back. They’re not doing it for Allah though, but still recognize this truth. 2) Smiling is a salaam and charity – and scientifically they say endomorphins are released when you smile. 3) Being thankful when you wake up in the morning – yoga, or spend time in the morning being thankful “to the universe” if you are thankful you will be happy and you will prosper.

19. Conclusion: you already have the best system in the whole world; through which we will be happy and prosperous. But we don’t practice it; we don’t know anything about it.

20. Hadith: Everything that happens to a believer is good for them. Hajj: Patience is greatly needed. Some hear it, but it has not entered their heart. If something hard happens to believers, they are patient, and the situation becomes better. The Hadith, this situation (that everything that happens to a believer is good for him) belongs only to the believers – who understand that what happens is better for them. What turned them around the point when they become most successful, as at the time of hardest challenge. You can learn the lesson if you’re thankful. Thankfulness is harder than being patient.

21. Often situations are such that you have no choice but to be patient – such as being in jail. But for being thankful – we all live in a privileged country. But how many show thankfulness?

22. If all Muslims were rounded up in a concentration camp, what would happen? Lose complete faith, or become very close to Allah. The test is very intense

23. Hajj is like this intense test –either fail or pass. Either become like dust or diamond. There are consequences for not being patient. 24. Al – The “al” means that every type of praise and thankfulness belongs to Allah – his property. 25. Tarbiyah means upbringing. Rabb is the one who brings people up. He is the Rabb of everything. 26. Ultimate power rests with Allah – that should strike fear in our hearts. What if President Bush had all power? What about the phrase who

polices the police? Because we know that any human being can abuse their power – but not Allah swt. Ayah 3: 27. Ayah 3. Ar rahman ar raheem. He is THE merciful one. Rahman is the characteristic – raheem is the action. Someone has the capability to

buy the whole masjid – but gives only $5. So he has the power to be merciful – but no mercy. Then there could be a poor person – who is very merciful but has nothing to give. Allah has both the power to give, and does give

Ayah 4: 28. Ayah 4 – Muulik is sovereign, Maaalik is owner. Both are correct recitations and pronunciations – both revealed from Allah. Like Palestinians

are owners of the land but have no sovereignty. Owns the Day of Judgment and is sovereign over it as well. Go directly to the owner and the sovereign for forgiveness and blessings – He is the decision maker.

29. Magicians and Firaun: A person can only make judgments in this world. Firaun’s magicians who were to be punished said to Firaun, Make your judgments because you’re not a judge, your judgment can only last until we are alive – and then there is no control

Ayah 5 30. Ayah 5 – whole al Maghrib course on this Ayah. Fasting is worship, charity, dua, hajj, salah, working at your job – all is worship, because you

are making intention for providing for your family. You missed out if you didn’t make the intention. Or if you’re selling donairs, and smile, smile for Allah. So much ajar – and your customers will smile back. And is there a side benefit – will your business increase because you smile? Of course!

31. Worship Allah properly – and you will prosper. Guarantee. Sad, depressed, not doing so well –then we’re not worshipping Allah properly. It is in plural – you alone WE worship. There are many Muslims who worship together.

32. There are people who say we believe in God, but not in any one religion. They say: I have my own beliefs. Are they the only one with the truth? You’re the only one who knows this “truth” from beginning of all time? What an arrogant statement. God would give access to the truth to everybody as a birthright.

-3-

33. Istha’aanaa – seeking help/ aid. Some Muslims think, if I don’t sell alcohol – no one will come to my restaurant. So we are seeking help from alcohol. Dating/ having a girlfriend to “get to know” someone before marriage – these are all actions that show that we are trusting something that is haram. Allah will never put His cure in something that He made Haram. Ribaa is not a solution.

34. Placing one’s trust in Allah swt. Allah makes us a promise. Do you trust the promise or not? Allah said will get charity back manifold. Then trust that Allah will pay you back if you gave $2000 to the masjid. So give!

35. If you have to do something haram because you will otherwise miss out on something – then you have not placed your trust in Allah. Allah will find a way for you. Miss salah because have to give exam, maybe teacher will allow you to say your prayer in class, maybe you can combine two salah. Allah will find a way for you.

Ayah 6-7: 36. Ayah 6: Guide us. Hidaaya is an oft-repeated concept. Comes up many times. Means we have to pay attention. When there is repetition –

that means extra attention must be given. Ayahs often end with hakeem, raheem – Allah’s beautiful names. Even twice in this Surah. 37. Other than Allah – Al Aleem is the most often repeated name of Allah in the Quran. It is the “All-Knowing.” Root of that is ilm. First Ayah to be

revealed is iqraa. But as Muslims we have perfected the art of reading without understanding – no one else in world does that! We teach to read but not to understand.

38. Two types of Hidaaya - irshaad and Hidaaya tawfeeq: a. A guide shows you the way – that is irshaad. b. If you arrive at your destination – tawfeeq – you were blessed to arrive at the destination. Just coz you have a map – will you arrive

at the destination? May not. May not follow the map and directions. Must have tawfeeq 39. Quran: As for thamood – we guided them, but yet they choose blindness over guidance. We should pray that Allah guide us to get the right

directions, and that we follow these directions – once we get them. 40. Yousuf Islam converted after reading Surah Baqarah. Lebanese Christian converted – after reading first line of Baqarah. For years he has

studied different religions looking for guidance – he went thru Buddhism etc, looking for guidance. Yet the first line says – in this Quran is guidance for the muttaqqeen

41. An uncle went for hajj. He’s from Trinidad. He got lost. Couldn’t explain at the hajj center that he was lost and needed directions at Mina. He finally said ihdinassi raathal mustaqeem. They all got it!

42. Shaikh’s wife said - Muhammad – you memorized the Quran and now you’re in big trouble if you don’t follow it. However, both are in trouble. Maghdo bo alayhim – I’m in trouble and you’re in trouble walaadwaaleen. We’re all in trouble. You have to do the right thing. There is no third path – only paradise or hellfire. In Al Araaf – there may be those with equal sins and sawaab, but Allah with His mercy can forgive them and they go to jannah.

43. Some people interpret the last Ayah as: Maghdo bo alaihim – means Jews and waladwaleen – means Christian. This understanding is not correct. We all make choices to go astray. Ayah applies to everyone.

Surah Al Baqarah

Introduction: 1. Abu Hurairah said that the Prophet saaw said: Do not make your homes into graveyards – for verily the shaitan flees from the house in which

Surah Baqarah is recited 2. Pictures and dogs and disobedience make angels flee from the house. Photographs that are put up for reverence takes on the quality of

statues. Should not put up on walls 3. Quran khaani – not so sure about that. Sit down and open your Quran and recite Surah Baqarah 4. When people treat each other badly – Allah is removed from the picture. Always start email with salaam – will ensure that things are toned

down 5. Surah Imran and Surah Baqarah protect you until you enter jannah if you memorize and follow it. It took Abdullah bin Omar 12 years to

memorize and understand it. The prophet would ask who has memorized Surah Baqarah and make him leader of an expedition 6. If we are playing the Quran on tape and we are paying attention – that counts 7. Ayat-ul-Kursi is in this Surah, fasting Ayah and hajj Ayah and umrah safa marwa all in Surah Baqarah 8. Makkah: Prophet lived her for 13 years as a prophet. Then conducted the Hijrah. Then spent 10 years in Madina as a prophet. 9. Surahs revealed in Makkah and Madina are different. Madina Surahs are longer, laws in it. Makkan Surahs are shorter the ones we use often

in salah. Why do parents start with memorization back of the Quran?

Characteristics of the Surah: a. How to worship Allah b. How to deal with other humans, wife, divorce c. Characteristics of the believers d. Pillars of Islam

10. It is a foundation of what an ideal Muslim society is 11. If you are active in daawah – every single page in the Quran will have something for you. But very few people do daawah. There is barakah in

the words of the Quran – use it for daawah. People became Muslim through the Quran. All arguments have already been presented in this book

12. Why should you worship Allah or get out of Ribaa? Because God created you – so worship Him and have some thankfulness. On page 2 of Surah al Baqarah. Doesn’t the one who created know what he created? Ayah in the Quran. Used for daawah.

-4-

13. Egypt – a group of students had politically inspired books like Syed-al-Khutub books. Raided and the group got arrested because of planted books. Some bothers just stopped praying. One brother became stronger. He asked the policeman – are you Muslim? Because in Surah Baqarah it says there are three groups among people: Believers, kufaar and munaafiqeen. Which one are you? There are only 3 groups.

14. Muslim youth committed suicide. People started asking – why did Allah do this to him? Why didn’t He protect him if he was praying? Our prayers may be on the outside – just the shell may not be accepted by Allah. Hypocrites are in the lowest pits of hellfire

15. So rephrase the question – is what we are doing for the sake of Allah only? 16. One Ayah says – their hearts are shaking in fear of when they will die and return to Allah. These are believers. Kaafirs do not believe in the

hell fire. Believers do good deeds consistently and always fear if they will be accepted or not

17. This Surah Speaks primarily of Bani Israel 2 Ayahs of believers, 4 on the disbelievers ad 13 Ayahs on the munaafiqeen.

Ayah 1-5 – Who Are the Believers? Ayah 1-3: 1. Ayah 1: Alif laam miim. We don’t know what it means. Hurroof muhathaa. Letters cut up. If you follow them – after all of these Hurroof – the

next Ayah after the Hurroof champions the Quran 2. It is a challenge – this is THE book. Quran is composed of Arabic letters. We have access to these letters like anyone else – but the Quran

cannot be emulated – I dare you – cannot be created. 3. The Arabic Bible looks like the Quran. It is continuous prose – no tajweed involved, no Ayahs. Shaikh Mohammed tried to read it. But your

breath starts running out, start getting choked. He could not even finish one page. 4. Ayah 1-3 is on believers 5. Ayah 2: What does taqwa mean? God consciousness 6. Great analogy: Think that there are cameras everywhere – streets, hotels, ATM, banks someone’s always watching you here. You will

recognize eventually that someone is watching. You gained consciousness that Allah is watching you – this is taqwa – that we are frequently in the consciousness of the awareness. And we do tawbah

7. Ayah 3: Who are the muttaqqeen? Allah teaches this to us. The work has already been done for you. Those who believe in the unseen 8. Those who say I have to see hellfire to believe – they are the kufaar 9. Imaan means security – not faith really. Who is in a risky position? Kaafir – betting his whole life on the hope that there is nothing in the

Hereafter. Muslims have invested and have led a safe life, have made a safe investment to gain return of the jannah. Allah will give you your dunya, as well, if you place trust in Him

Ayah 4-5 10. 1. Believe in unseen: resurrection, gathering of humanity, paradise and hellfire 11. 2. Establish salah: praying and establishing your prayer are different. Paying attention, making wudu even if you don’t need to make wudu,

sunnah before and after, establishing it in the masjid. 12. Salah forbids/ protects people from Al-Fahshah – vices and evil things 13. What is the position of the salah in your life? That will tell us a lot about the life of the person. Are you praying 5 times a day? It is fard 14. 3. Give zakah. Proven scientifically that those who give charity are more well-off and happier

a. Income: from work b. Expenses: usually more than income c. Assets: Rent on a second house, livestock, crops, and savings in the bank, cash, and halal investment that does not deal in Ribaa. If

you only focus on your assets, then you are generating wealth, and maximizing your zakah – that is the trick maximize this. This is the only category to pay zakah on. If someone owes you money – that is still an asset – and have to pay zakah on it.

d. Liabilities: house, cats, something that takes money out of your pocket, car, and jewelry belongs in both categories. Do not have to pay on this category.

Ayah 6-7: Who are the Kufaar

1. Explaining stance on certain issues – Qadiani’s have done trademark infringement – if Islam were a trademark. 2. 100’s of Ayahs show the finality of the prophet saaw. These are the people on “huda” comes up in Surah Fatiha and in Ayah 1 Baqarah 3. The kufaar guide them or not, warn them or not – they will never believe. Allah has sealed their heart. Sight is covered. Revealed in medina.

Kufaar fought the Prophet saaw for 13 years – wanted to kill the prophet saaw. 4. All these years the Muslims did not fight back when they were tortured 5. We do not know how to do daawah. The Prophet saaw would send one Muslim and he would convert a whole nation. We are 65,000 in

Calgary – everyone here by now should have been Muslim if we knew how to do it 6. All great leaders in Islam were born leaders – they fought the prophet a lot in the beginning – because they were leaders – on the right path or

on the wrong 7. Deceit of an eye – its like backbiting with the eyes – words we say are mocked and contradicted by our eyes’ expression 8. Get the bad kid and get him on your side. He’s already a leader – he has more power than the teacher – I love bad kids, said the Shaikh. One

kid, 7-8 year old, Mujahid, was very bad in class. Shaikh built a relationship with him, played soccer with him, put his arms around him. One day another kid in class said Islamic studies is boring. At this point, the teacher had lost control. Instead of responding to the child, the Shaikh walked over to Mujahid and asked him, Do you think, Mujahid, that Islamic Studies is boring? Mujahid stood up on his chair and said – who

-5-

said it, who said that Islamic studies is boring? Other kid just shrank in his seat. Lesson – bring the leaders on to your side – do not have to be the most righteous

9. If a person chooses to delay repentance – it has consequences. Then you are consciously choosing to disobey Allah at that time. When I graduate I’ll be done with my loan or stop drinking, or as soon as I’ve done by Ribaa debt – I’ll then go for hajj. Until I’m married I’ll have a girl friend/ boyfriend.

10. The heart is not a stagnant organ. One day you feel religious, one day you feel horrible, but the rust will accumulate. Tawbah should not be left until the next day even

11. Some people were standing by the grave – what would these dead people say to us? What would they want? They would wish to get another chance – can we take the exam one more time

12. If it’s not going to be them – let it be you. You were dead last night – but you are alive today. We woke up – we got another chance to do good deeds

13. Maybe for some of us we don’t even have one more Ramadan left

Ayah 8-20- The Hypocrites – Who are the Munaafiqeen?

1. Ayah 8-20 – the hypocrites: they say with their tongues that they are believers, but do not believe. An Iraqi Christian woman wrote a book. Outwardly she says I am Muslim – but spied on them. How do we recognize them?

2. Muslims have a lot of power. Muslims have destroyed the Danish economy because of the cartoons. We have so much and that’s why they are interested in keeping us sleeping.

Ayah 8-9: 3. Ayah 8 Who knows what’s in their heart? Only Allah does. So if someone converts before marriage – can’t say that they only converted

because of the marriage. We are not burdened with figuring out people’s intentions. That is between the individual and Allah – we need to worry about our own deeds and intentions

4. Ayah 9: they are only deceiving themselves. You will be compensated for what you do. If you were arrogant to others, if you oppressed someone/ hit someone, someone else will oppress you, send someone to hit you.

5. For example, if you don’t backbite – Allah will protect you from backbiting 6. Ayah 12-13: they do not understand that they are munafiqeen. Nifaaq means hypocrisy. They may not know they have Nifaaq. How do we

know if this applies to me or not? Ayah 10: 7. Ayah 10 – in their hearts is a disease. So Allah intensifies their disease on them. If you come closer to Allah – Allah will hasten guidance for

you. If someone comes a hand span closer, Allah comes one arms length closer, if you come walking to Allah – Allah comes running. Allah gives us more and more opportunities to be guided – if we just made use of them

8. However, if a person moves away from Allah – they are pushed away. Allah intensifies the disease on them 9. So there are consequences. The punishment could be that the sin becomes more and more desirable. Because of disobedience – it

intensifies, and they have very little control on themselves anymore 10. Painful punishment – because of their consistent lying. They keep saying no to the truth. 11. Munaafiqeen characteristics: they say with their tongues what they don’t believe, they cause deceit, and they spread corruption Ayah 11: 12. Ayah 11: spreading mischief, spreading war, backbiting, alcohol, asking what’s wrong with interest? They think they are reforming things –

“progressive” Muslims. Why does a woman not get to say khutbah? They say we sincerely care for Muslims. 13. Americans are doing this. Who asked you to liberate us? The soldiers say we don’t want to liberate them – they say we are reformers. Who

is a bigger danger to the world – Iraq or the united States? Nobody is afraid of Iraq. Ayah 12-13: 14. Ayah 12: they are the ones who need to be reformed – but don’t believe it 15. Ayah 13: Safee – foolish, stupid, idiot, nincompoop, incompetent, moron, maulvi, muttawwa, wahabbi, mullah. They say why should we

believe like the foolish? They claim believers are foolish. They make fun of believers and those who try to follow Allah 16. This is a very popular theme in our media. If you have a beard – you’re foolish. Muslims associated with foolishness 17. Hypocrisy has different levels:

a. Someone who’s 100%, b. Others who have Nifaaq in their character c. And then individual characteristics of Nifaaq such as mocking the believers d. Educate them when you see it happening – that what you’re doing is Nifaaq

Ayah 14-16: 18. Ayah 14: When they are with Muslims, they say we’re with you Muslims, then with they are with evil, they say we are with you and were only

mocking them. Qaale aamanna means I am. Fill in the sentence – I am Muslim. 19. Taking Ribaa to go to university: instead some of us work in the summer, made the money ourselves. Now we also had something to add

back to the class, can teach the teacher too

-6-

20. Ayah 15: If someone’s is disobeying – Allah gives them more rope. Made intention to get a girlfriend and they find one. If you want to say salah 5 times a day, you’ll have to make your work schedule flexible enough to allow it.

21. It’s usually either the jobless or millionaires who do 5 times in masjid! Does it have to be that way? 22. Ayah 16: Purchased error – the analogy of buying and selling is used many times in the Quran. Bought goodness for them and gave them

paradise. Only commodity they can use to rid of sins is taqwa. Ayah 17: Who are the munafiqeen continued: 23. Ayah 17: We give analogies to use as bridges to understand what is being explained. So if a Christian is trying to explain trinity – he will fold a

paper two times – that is trinity – one paper that has three folds. One sheikh kept on folding it and said you can fold it as many times as you want – then what?

24. You can fold it as many times as you want – that is only shirk 25. Fire has some beneficial properties to it – you light it for heat or light. However, there is also a danger to it – can get burnt. Person is seeking

out someone to help them light a fire. A person who leaves Islam is in a worse state than if he had not accepted. Fire is the guidance. In the beginning, he benefits from the light and warmth of Islam. The fire shuts off then. Allah leaves them in darkness – because of the sins he has accumulated. They are living in pain and in danger

Ayah 18-20: 26. Ayah 18: they have no senses. No faculties by which to process information – nothing can reach their heart. How will they be able to return to

the right path? 27. Ayah 19: First example of fire is someone who was a Muslim but then got misguided. Second example is of someone who always was a

hypocrite like the Iraqi Christian spy. When it rains, it becomes dark. There is also the thunderclap and lightening bolts. Fear comes with it- you know if you’ve experienced a bad storm.

28. They put their fingers in their ears – are afraid of death. Like the ostrich who puts its head in the sand – and says to itself, there is no lion, there is no lion. There is no day of judgment. Their saying this does not change the facts.

29. Ayah 20: in some masaajid they have leaky roofs. That leak is protecting the masjid from hypocrites. The hypocrites will not go there – they gravitate to the masaajid that get $2 million in donation. When you fix it – when you are successful, they will come out of the woodwork and cause fitnah. Munaafiqeen would join the war if there was booty – otherwise would not. Or like Khizr who punched a hole in the boat to save from king on other side who took everything perfect – protected it from that munafiq

30. If something is haram – it is haram everywhere. Pictures are haram everywhere – including in the bathroom. Picture diapers are ok – because those pictures are not being glorified.

October 12, 2008 Ayah 21-27: What is the Purpose of Life?

Ayah 21: 1. Ayah 21: The purpose if life. A needa’aa is to call someone – yaa ayyohaa – yaa ayyohunnaas – asking for attention. Allah is calling all

humanity – not just Muslims or non-believers or hypocrites. Everyone has a right to the Quran 2. Oobudoo – worship your Lord. Tawheed ruboobeeyah – worship your lord who is the only one who provides for you 3. People will say things like they believe in something larger than themselves, a higher being, a greater power, etc. If you tell them that there is

nothing – just you, you live and die only – their mind and body cannot accept that. They call Allah by names other than His own 4. But this belief alone will not get them to jannah. They have to worship Allah. Ibaadaa includes your whole life – whenever you made an

intention to please Allah 5. Ibaadaa in Islam: It is everything that Allah loves and is pleased with – whether they are statements, or actions, external or internal, hidden or

obvious. “Everything” means that we know that Allah loves it based on proof 6. How do you know Allah loves something? Through the Quran, sunnah, and ijtamaah 7. A civilized human being is one who is on a mission to collect ajjar:

a. “External” actions: Such as saying salaam, returning dropped money, compliments, saying I love you to your parents, spouse, kids b. “Internal” actions: Such as seeking forgiveness, tawbah, repented for jealousy – combating the jealousy by saying mashaAllah (this

is what Allah wills) c. This is Ibaadaa. Includes everything Allah is happy with. Top of the list is belief, Tawheed in Allah and prophet. Next comes salah.

8. Why do we need to worship Allah? What do we get out of it? 9. This is your thankfulness. We are in pain when we don’t know how to thank for all the gifts we get. Getting, getting, getting but no expression

of thank you 10. But non-Muslims in their freedom are in the sad, depressed state. It brings them so much pain 11. E.g. when you go to a class that had absolute freedom for everybody – there would be chaos, no set times, everyone talking at the same time,

all eating, no one’s learning. Who would like to go to that class? You would hate to go to that class 12. This is the pain that the kufaar are in. They say meditate on a flower for 15 mins in the morning – sounds a lot like salat ul fajr! ☺ 13. What if fajr were optional? It would have gone a long time ago. All the success principles for non-Muslims are optional for them – so the fall

away Ayah 22:

-7-

14. Ayah 22: Allah swt created us – we are His creation. Shaikh met someone who studies soil – we have a lot of things in common with it – we were made from it. Stubborn soil, fertile soil, soil where you pour water and it goes elsewhere – like our ears. Allah made it easy for us to build in it – it is not like diamond or titanium

15. We take the rain and sky for granted. Plant a seed and watch it grow – the miracles of Allah 16. What is the proof that God exists? A baby – who has anything to do with its growth? Who can make the bone of the arm grow into the

fingers? It’s so delicate and so small – who could ever do that? 17. A Muslim watches discovery channel and says subhanAllah and prostrates – non-Muslims say wow and move on to the Calgary Flames game.

Concludes Ayah with saying do not do shirk Ayah 23: 18. Ayah 23: Allah says IF you are still in doubt (raib). Only doubt is called ‘shakk.’ Raib means very scared – more than just doubt. E.g. a Hindu

may fear his gods would punish him. So it is not just doubt 19. Bring your proof, if indeed you are truthful 20. It is called the “I dare you” principle – and is used quite a lot in the Quran 21. Allah has made this challenge 4 times in the Quran – to bring the entire Quran, bring a chapter, bring 10 Surahs, bring 1 Surah, or finally a

similar speech. The Arabs of that time – their profession, their excellence, much if their fame, was poetry 22. All prophets came with their relevant miracles:

a. Magic for Musa for Firaun and his magicians b. Medicine was the skill of the time so Isa had the miracle of healing c. So people of that time when they read the Quran – they knew right away that this was the word of God. But we have to study Arabic

ourselves if we are not native speakers to understand this miracle 23. Someone said something to the prophet about analogies used in the Quran - and he was shy to respond. Allah revealed the next few Ayahs

that I have no shame in making any analogies or saying anything in the Quran to help us understand Ayah 24: 24. Ayah 24: there has never been in all of history a book that came out that challenged the Quran. Popular books say over 1 million copies sold.

How many Qurans have been printed? What about how many people have been affected? Just in today’s world and our lifetime it is over 1.5 billion

25. We have to set up a space to fall – between hellfire and us: Even if you have only one date – give half of it away in charity – so it can stand in between you and the hellfire on the day of judgment

26. In the hellfire. The skin is continually being replaced. The skin itself is the fuel. There is no end to the fire 27. When you’re having a tough time at hajj – you think eventually I’ll get a shower, a clean bed, our own home. In hell – there is no out. It will go

on for eternity 28. We need to spread the message. If not us, Allah will replace us with others if we do not spread the message Ayah 25: 29. Ayah 25: basharah: When someone is happy – their face brightens ups – it illuminates – it is a chemical reaction. Spread the good news – it

would bring happiness to people – that which you can see in their faces. 30. When was the last time that good news was shared with you? When was the last time news of the hellfire was shared with you? That is de-

motivational. So much mercy is shown in Hajj – Allah is more merciful that all of those people showing mercy and helping others 31. Hadith: Those who walk to the masjid in darkness, will walk with complete light on the day of resurrection. Who will walk in darkness to the

masjid – fajr and isha? So the people who are doing it – give them glad tidings 32. Rivers flowing underneath. Waterside property is most costly – and many people dream of it. Vietnam – houses with water flowing underneath

– pay a lot of money for this experience 33. Garden of Eden – literally means the inhabitable garden – you can live in this garden however. Typically you cannot live in a garden. But here

your life is in the garden – with rivers flowing underneath. Here you can get sick even of your favorite foods. There the desire for the food does not diminish – excitement of it is still present

34. Purified spouses – for men and women. If humans touch an animals egg – some mothers of those eggs will abandon it – we are so stinky. In jannah, none of these dirty chemicals are present – sweat comes out as musk.

35. There may be some beautiful biryani cooked – but in three seconds in the mouth – it becomes disgusting. We will have purified spouses in jannah

36. If someone is smoking outside our house, smoke still comes into our house. This habit is so nasty – it pollutes the atmosphere – it pollutes the open air. Have to close the window. In contrast, there is a Hadith about women in paradise: If she only smiled to the earth, the whole world would be filled with the beautiful perfume. My smile doesn’t do that! ☺

37. This is a woman of jannah. She was created in jannah for the people of jannah. We were created here and tested here. If we pass, Muslim women will be the queens of these women – because we passed. Human believers are better than angels as angels were not tested.

38. A believing woman is far more beautiful than any huur in jannah 39. If you are patient when wives do not agree – do not get angry – a husband can choose from all the huur in jannah – so a reminder to be kind to

their wives. And wives – a reminder to be better in relationships 40. Is there paradise on earth? No. Why? Because:

-8-

a. Sickness: For example really looking forward to a vacation in the mountains at Banff. But then you got sick in Banff – no longer excited about Banff. Someone with diabetes said inshaAllah I will have all these forbidden foods in jannah. We are just in a journey of a few years to get to the hereafter.

b. Mortality: Everything will come to an end in this world. All wealth, beauty etc is left behind. c. Companionship: If you are in a beautiful place, but you’re companion is backbiting or fighting – who cares about the beautiful place?

41. Will women get to choose more than one man in jannah? For men it seems to be a “Made for Men” movie. Hero is escaping, government, chasing evil and then….. beautiful woman waiting for him at the end

42. A “Made for Women” movie would be – that a woman is conflicted between two lovers. Who should she choose in the end? ☺ 43. Allah created women and knows what she desires. She desires to be with one man. What if she wanted more than one man? Then – this is

what you get. In jannah, you get everything that you want. In the hereafter, you will never have a companionship that messes up the situation – as all hearts have been purified

Class Questions

1. Question: What if someone wants to challenge the Quran? Then they do not know much about Islam. What’s stopping you from becoming

Muslim? What else? List it all. Its not the real issue. I will answer these questions and address these issues for you – and then tell me what the real issue is

2. For questions on women who cover: How dare you take away the right for her to cover her face- you arrogant chauvinist? Real issue is what will people say about me? My father is a priest, what about my colleagues etc

3. 99% of people don’t know where they’re at. These questions are so deep – that you may never have asked yourself what the real issue is. If you get to the real issue with these people – they will cry. That’s when you know you’ve reached rock bottom

4. Question: Everyone fluctuates in their understanding of the Quran. Allah blesses us with this understanding. Scholars would do two rakah of repentance and pray to Allah to help them understand when they were struggling with comprehension of an issue.

5. Just ensure that ignorance is not compounded by arrogance. Be sincere in wanting to find the truth – otherwise you will reject it. 6. How can you reject something just because you don’t understand it – how stupid are you? This is never the real issue – it is the rust on their

heart. 7. Question: In jannah, you can remember things from the dunya, and you can have questions answered about it 8. E.g. someone from jannah wants to know how his misguided companion is doing – and sees him in hellfire. He says – by Allah you almost got

me to where you are – it was only the blessing of Allah that saved me 9. If someone is influencing you wrongly – ask yourself Am I willing to be with you in the hellfire? If not – do not bet your money on this friend 10. Question: Is it ok to live in this country with kufaar if we are not doing daawah? You live where it is most pleasing to Allah. So wherever you

can follow His religion best – it could be Canada, it could be elsewhere. If Shariaah is established – do we have to move there? No. 11. Entrepreneurial spirit: If you don’t follow the commandments of Allah – you will be enslaved by Ribaa and other chains Ayah 26: 12. Ayah 26: Whatever argument disbelievers use to discredit Islam – it has been addressed in the Quran. All accusations have been addressed 13. If non-Muslims say : Isn’t this wrong? Yes it is wrong. Admit it as a Muslim. Condemn the action – it is a major sin. There is no “but.” For

example. Yes 9/11 was wrong – no, “but.” Yes, fighting in the sacred months is something major, it is wrong, terrorism is wrong, expelling people from a land is wrong, abandoning people is wrong, no health care is wrong, sending alcohol to all these communities is wrong. Who gets sad when so many homeless die? Key word is AND. Continue on the thoughts and ADD on all the other atrocities that exist. This is the Qumran’s methodology.

14. We have all been criticized for doing Islamic activities. We just criticize each other – both Muslims and non-Muslims. This criticism causes us to lay low – to avoid criticism. But we will always get criticism – there is no avoiding it

15. Kufaar said don’t you have any shame – why can’t god give us analogies that are bigger than insects? Allah is not shy or embarrassed to give any analogy he wishes. Can give an analogy smaller than fly or larger – whatever he wishes.

16. Excusitis – Inflammation of the excuse – disease of making excuse. Classic excuses: a. Time – I don’t have any time. It’s too long for me – too many hours. (Kids go to school for the same number of hours) b. I don’t have the money c. It’s too far – location d. I’m too old for these type of things e. I’m too smart to learn this. I’m too good for this. f. They have an earring/ girlfriend/ not educated enough – not good enough for this. You fear hypocrisy – how can I go to the

nightclubs if I come to the class? I don’t want to be a hypocrite g. I’m no the lecture type – I prefer reading. How long will it take you to read all this material? Six years – and you would still not do it.

Be smart and follow my notes for 6 days – be smart h. From Shaikh: i. I’m too young or I’m too old j. I have no time k. I’m not educated enough or opposite – or other parts to that – not good enough or too good l. Who cares? I don’t care about classes or studying Islam

-9-

m. You’re so arrogant/ or you’re so holy. This is not an actual response. It is an attack so that you go on the defensive and leave them alone and they regain control again. They don’t want to change. Every one of us has been criticized before. You are in good company – its called humanity. Let it slide – even if it hurts. Think – what is really going on here? What is the cause for the attack?

n. For example, police officers cannot be personally offended by insults. African Americans are really good at it. They have a little game they play as kids. Called “Your mama” Your mama’s so fat she has her own zip code. Your mama’s so dumb – someone said its chilly outside, so she took a bowl out. If you take it personally – you’ve lost. The victor is the one who can take the most criticism – he/ she is the leader and the most successful. Just keep moving forward

o. Selling pisses people off. Made $6000 in one week. Got 6 of the most hurtful emails ever – it stabs people in the heart. Instead I though - for every hate mail – I made $1000. Conclusion – for every criticism I can handle – I will get one thousand dollars. Move on

17. Ayah 26: Those who believe know that it is the truth. For the same analogy in the Quran – believers will accept it – but the disbelievers will criticize it. We have to have courage, like leaders, to take the criticism.

18. E.g., in the battle of Uhud, the Prophet saaw said “I am the prophet of Allah – o believers come to me.” One believer heard it and one disbeliever heard it. One came to protect, while the other wanted to kill him. The battle intensified even more after that

19. The statement was made by the Prophet – the battle will intensify on you – you will become the one they want to take down. But you have to take it.

20. Remember: It is what it is. Someone will insult you – you just say, it is what it is. No one will leave you alone if you are being successful. If you don’t wish for attention to come to you, then stop living. The battle will come to your doorstep if you are Muslim – like Bosnia. We can’t avoid it. If you don’t wish for this to happen to you, do not give in

21. They will never be pleased with you until you follow their steps 22. Non-Muslim Fasiq – disbeliever who has transgressed in their disbelief. Murdering, raping etc 23. Muslim Fasiq – drinking, alcohol 24. When the Quran comes to them – it actually increases them in their misguidance –they are so warped by huge amount of sins Ayah 27: 25. Ayah 27: those who are Fasiq – who are they, so we are not one of them. Those who break Allah’s contract. Nifaaq is like a rope –

specifically a rope that you would tie a prisoner with. Not a simple rope. This rope is so tight with Allah, to worship Him alone, to stay away from forbidden. They break this rope and then stray away from Allah and do the fisq – murder, rape etc

26. Others break the ties of kinship. If so, you are in the zone. You cannot break off the tie and still be pleasing Allah. You can never truly resolve it, if you go over 3 days. Just like if you hammer in a nail – the mark will always be there, even if you take the nail out

27. Say salaam and respond to salaam 28. Visit people if they are ill 29. If they die – attend their janaaza 30. If they invited you to a party or wedding – accept it 31. If they sneeze say yarhamakullah 32. Basically the rights of a Muslim brother to another Muslim brother

Ayah 28-39: Where Did it All Begin?

Ayah 28: 1. Ayah 28: how can you disbelieve in Allah when you were dead? When they don’t believe in the hereafter – is that very illogical? Technology

that will come a few years from now – how easy is it to do it now? Not easy. But once it is in place – reproducing it is easy and becomes cheap. The one who gave it life in the first place – re-creation is easier than creation.

2. Analogy used for daawah. If you were to tell a baby in the womb – look there’s a whole other world out there – with food, rivers, trees. The baby says its all black in here, you’re lying. But before he knows it – the child is in the other world. Same for death.

Ayah 29: 3. Ayah 29: All that is created is a gift for us. Some vegetarians say why does a chicken have to die for you? Well then, why do you have to kill a

plant – why does that have to die for you? Why take the water? Sometimes animals have more rights than humans. 4. Everything is created for preservation of human beings. Does not mean we abuse it. Humans are the only ones who kill for sport. Lions don’t

murder or kill for jealousy. 5. If something is in the earth – automatic ruling is that everything on the earth is halal for us – unless specifically told it is haram. So if a new fruit

is discovered – should you ask – are you sure it is halal? No – it is halal. What about a tobacco leaf? If there are other factors that nullify – like intoxication, lung cancer – then it becomes haram

6. Aqeeda: Where is Allah? In the Heavens (Samaa’a). Not everywhere. If you tell a child, then he will ask is Allah in the bathroom? His fitrah directs him to question if Allah is in dirty places. Ta’ala means high – Allah is higher than his creation. Allah knows everything – but he is not physically everywhere. This is a landmine and as there are many cultural beliefs around this

7. Allah has knowledge of everything Ayah 30-33: 8. Ayah 30: I know ilm that you do not know. Angels are much more intelligent than us. But – just like we have desires – their desire is to

worship Allah only. Do humans spread corruption and shed blood? Yes. Were the angels right? Yes. Still Allah swt says – I know what you don’t know

-10-

9. Angels were not saying this out of arrogance. That we worship Allah so much – was not said out of arrogance. Not showing off. It was a statement of fact

10. Ayah 31 and 32 – ilm/ knowledge mentioned in both 11. Ayah 33: Didn’t I tell you – I have ilm of the unseen 12. Some say that the creation of Adam is all an accident – we are all from apes. They are saying that there is no intelligence in how we are

created. 13. Darwin: There are many different theories and Darwin has been disproved q few years ago. You need proof of creation of the middle species

– which does not exist. The Ivy League Universities know there are some other reasons – but older universities still teach it 14. This theory helps to enslave us. It was the tyranny of the church that they were combating at that time. Muslims never killed scientists –

Christians did. Christians traveled to Andalus and Iraq to study science (The Quran says that the earth is round long before these scientists) – they were persecuted in their own lands.

15. The Prophet saaw did more shuurah and council than any leader 16. “Serving your customers,” it works. Feedback helps to get the right products out. Muslims say my community is so dumb – if I did shuura with

them they will give only dumb ideas or tell me to do haram – so I will not involve them. But the community is the first to rebel 17. E.g., one masjid has a parking policy. They will tow cars parked in this zone. They towed the car of a mother. Brothers had a fight over it.

Their policy was not based on feedback or shura’a otherwise would not have spiraled out of control 18. Ayah 31: When people “discover” a plant - the plant was always there – was not “discovered,” it was just named 19. Language helps us to communicate and put names to things – this is what Allah taught Adam – the names of things. Allah showed the virtue

of Adam over the angels because of his knowledge. He is showing the angels how amazing the human is – based only on his knowledge and brain. Take our brains away and we are no better than a dog. What wrong does a lion do? Nothing. He does tasbeeah. What wrong do human do? List is endless. Use your brain – that’s the bottom line. Don’t let TV, misguidance, alcohol take it away from you

20. Ayah 31: angels accepted what Allah said 21. Ayah 33: Who was hiding something the whole time? Iblees. We are souls. Our bodies are just a vehicle for the soul. Pretty awesome vehicle

– BMW X3trillion. We have healing abilities – like Wolverine in the X-Men movie. We also have a spider affect. Spider sense tingles when we are about to do something haram (like a Ribaa house)

22. Why are so many people depressed? Nifaaq. Living a double life will make you depressed. Life in masjid and outside, it must all the same. When people see you and don’t see you, it is all is the same – this is free of Nifaaq

23. Leadership from the back and leadership from the front – both are important for successful leaders 24. If you are responsible for any type of leadership – it behooves you to understand this: Follow me – this is a commanding leader. The other is

the one who is taking care of people who are lagging behind. Two leaders leading into forest. One front and one in back. If behind leader is taken away – stragglers get lost and open up their own mosque ☺

25. If one from front is taken away – there is no direction – taking care of people will only get you so far. They need decision-making, know when to put their foot down

26. Both qualities need to be taken into account for a leader. If anyone did not need shura’a – it is the Prophet saaw 27. He got revelation and would know if he did anything wrong – yet he did shura still. Battle of Uhud – shura decided and that’s it; no changes.

Prophet saaw said it is not for a prophet to take off his armor one he has put it on 28. So know who to include – give a deadline for when shura can be done until – e.g. Thursday at noon. Anyone who goes against shura after

decision is made will be “beaten alive” – but until then, speak your mind. And that is what the angels did – they did shura with Allah – that why make Adam. Iblees did not – even though Allah knew what was in his heart. Let all the criticism come out – do the shura – leading from behind and then go to the front and make a firm decision once shura is over

Ayah 34-35: 29. Ayah 34: Bowing for salutation – in the past. But haram now – we cannot bow to anyone in any circumstance – like martial arts 30. Allah told the angels to bow down to Adam. “Abbaa” means refusal, “Isthikbaa” means arrogance. He belied what Allah swt said 31. Was Iblees one of the angels or not? Iblees was a jinn. That is clear. Then why was a commandment for angels applied to a jinn? Because

he had reached the status of those angels closest to Allah – so he was in the circle of the closest ones to Allah 32. So this shows you can go from the highest of the high, to the lowest of the low. May Allah guide us and keep us firm – so always make dua for

this (Surah Fatiha). We should never be satisfied with our good deeds. 33. Iblees got angry - and that led him to disobey Allah 34. Ayah 35: Allah entered Adam into paradise. From Adam created Hawwa. He did not stay a bachelor – Allah immediately married him. Male

and female are pairs – are from the same source. They complete each other 35. Hadith: Women are made from a bent rib – so the Prophet saaw said this because he knew men’s tendency to try to fix the woman. If you try

to straighten it – you will break it – i.e. divorce. He ended it by saying: “So take care of it” – she has other feelings – accept her for how she is. Be soft with her

36. Adam and Hawwa were allowed to eat from anything in jannah. Except this specific tree – and if they did -they would bring transgression for themselves. When the believers enter jannah – there will be nothing haram there. This was a test just for that pair

37. When you ask questions – think: what is the benefit to me? Did dinosaurs live? Who cares? Ask questions where the advice can be applied to a situation now. Is this situation live? Has it happened yet? Not hypothetical. Waste of time if you ask such questions

Ayah 36:

-11-

38. Ayah 36: Shaitan hated Adam and Hawwa – if there was ever anyone who hated each other that much – it was Adam and shaitan. Shaitaan knew what hellfire looked like – knew he would end up in hellfire, yet still wanted to lead them astray regardless of his punishment – how intense is that hatred?

39. How did Iblees sweet-talk them? Iblees said to them: Would you like me to guide you to the tree of immortality and a dominion/ kingship that will never come to an end? Would you like to see it?

40. When wolves become shepherds – buy this cd 41. What is Iblees like? If you asked him who do you want to misguide? Everyone. When does he start? When the baby is born, he pinches

his/her cheek. When does he stop? Never. Iblees take a high five when there’s a divorce, but does not stop. Adam’s children will go to the hellfire with me. I will stop only at the day of judgment and misguide all their children, and theirs and theirs

42. How about Muslims – when do we stop? I will not stop until I guide, their children, and their children and theirs – we will never stop! We are totally not there yet. Look at the dedication of the shaitaan – and the dedication of us Muslims

43. Adam and Hawwa both ate from the tree and were banished. Iblees has an army too of shayaateen and jinn 44. This is one of the first stories in the Quran – first for a reason. You need to know where you started from – if you don’t know where you started

from – the direction may be correct but if the starting point is wrong – the directions will not get you there 45. Monkey experiment – all monkeys buzzed if any one monkeys goes for bananas. They all agree not to do it. New monkey comes in – from

Kashmir – he loves jihad. ☺ He goes for banana and gets beaten up. Another new monkey comes in – all beat him up even Kashmiri monkey – even though he doesn’t know why. By the end all six monkeys have been replaced – yet they will always do it – even though there is no more electricity, no more buzzing. They have all been programmed.

46. You need to know your origin – where you come from. What was the original reason you did that thing? Always question the original intention. May not still be valid. Why did you move to Canada? Did it really give you a better life?

Ayah 37: 47. Ayah 37: Adam was taught the words of repentance. They said it. Allah forgave them. See the mercy of Allah. Sin, regret it, the desire to

repent is already a sign that Allah will forgive you – because Allah is the one who caused the desire to repent. 48. Iblees did not have the desire to repent. Tawaab – it’s an excessiveness – Allah consistently and so much forgives – again and again. Ayat

came very tough in the beginning of this Surah. But Allah loves you more than your parents. Shaitan wants you to go to hellfire. Allah wants you to go to jannah – so He gives us challenges so that we can smarten up and be safe in jannah

49. If you fear in this life – you will not fear in the hereafter. If you do not fear in this life- you will fear in the hereafter Ayah 38: 50. Ayah 38: Allah expelled based on one sin. How many times have we sinned? Repent promptly and swiftly 51. NLP: Neuro Lingual Programming – read up on this – it is about anchors 52. We are anchored to different smells – cinnamon reminds us of childhood. Pavlov’s experiment with salivation – dog got anchored to the bell.

If you look at haram websites – the chair is an anchor to the haram. You are anchored to the wrong thing. Need to do repentance – otherwise it will become a habit and so difficult to break

53. Example: Man killed 99 people. Asked a scholar if he could repent he said no and killed him too. So had killed 100 people. Went to another scholar – he said nothing can stop you from repenting. But leave your village – because it is bad company for you. He did and died on the way. Angels of hellfire and jannah came. Allah asked to measure the distance between him and two cities. Allah accepted his repentance and he went to jannah

54. Allah sent guidance. Have talked about guidance many times already. Hidaaya irshaad and Hidaaya tawfeeq. Have our hearts become of stone? Don’t blame god for not guiding me. Allah is saying humble yourself and you will be guided. Our repentance is a choice we make. If we choose to repent – Allah will make it easier

55. Fear and grief. Fear of the future. Something happened 27 years ago – are you still afraid of it? No only if you think it might come again. Grief is something that has happened in the past. Example: Fear of the future – If I marry this person – I might miss out on the future if someone better comes along. And fears the past – that if I do not marry him, I will be alone and will regret if I did not marry. Fear of the past.

56. Let me tell you about a profession where you can never go wrong – never be sad or never grieve. It will make all career decisions obsolete. If you live your life as the slave of Allah

57. A taxi driver – slave of Allah – engineer, arts specialty, accountant all slaves of Allah. In the end he went to jannah. Look back at your life – did you worry about what course I should have taken? No. If you did not take up the job of slave of Allah – and you end up in hell fire – will you look back with any happiness at your life here?

58. A mother said my son is a huge doctor. But he does not pray. Who cares about the job? As a mother, you wouldn’t be happy with the most successful Dr if he ends up in hellfire. A child will be much more successful in the dunya if the parents’ goal is that they go to jannah

Ayah 39: 59. Ayah 39: Kufr – ungratefulness is the root. Kaafir also means to cover up. So a farmer is a kafara as he plants seeds and covers it up.

Ashaab – go together – a companion. They will never separate from hellfire – be companions forever. The punishment will never end – there is nothing to look forward to

60. Your mind belongs to you 61. Say I’m going for those bananas – whether they electrocute me or not. Whether we are patient or freak out – it will not change their reality.

Like in jail – they cannot control your mind 62. You can console your brother if he is in jail with you. But in the hellfire – the anger and regret gets intensified and they curse each other that

you brought me here

Ayah 40-48: The Children of Israel and The Quran:

Ayah 40: 1. Ayah 40: O children of Yaqoob – is equivalent of saying Bani Israel. Allah is calling them with the kindest name possible – another Quranic

technique. Allah is giving daawah to them. Why don’t you act like Yaqoob? 2. Remember my blessing. Remembering means thanking – thankfulness is through actions. Remember when – means remembering through

actions. Need to be thankful for all victories of Muslims in the past 3. And fulfill your promise to me. And I will fulfill mine 4. Fear only me. Do not fear losing your leadership or power or that your customers won’t like you if you don’t sell alcohol, or I can’t say this as

my friends will backbite – fear only Him – nobody else. Jinn – many are afraid of jinn. I miss fajr and I’m not scared, so why am I scared of jinn? The fear only belongs to Allah

Ayah 41: 5. Ayah 41: What if I were a Jew – would I go to hell? In Canada they say, your belief is yours – mine is mine. Allah tells us to say we believe

what was revealed to all prophets – we do not differentiate between any of them 6. The Jews would always check if what the Prophet saaw said matched with the Torah. Saffia’s father went to see the Prophet saaw. Father

said he is the one – but we will fight him until the end 7. Shira’a means don’t purchase. With the signs of Allah – for example, they want to purchase leadership for 5 years. Need to sell guidance

bucks, and then when all is spent – we end up in the hellfire. Do not do that transaction. An Ayah is not just a sign. Sign that comes with proof – it is so clear and comes with proof for its truthfulness. And fear Allah alone

Ayah 42-44: 8. Ayah 42: Do not clothe the truth with falsehood –this is the definition of propaganda. They are not actually lying –they are covering the truth 9. The way the media played Jessica Lynch’s story. Jessica Lynch herself belied the story – that she was kidnapped. The media did not really

fully lie – but clothed the truth. This is propaganda 10. Jews knew some truth – but covered it up with lies. We’ll see this through the Ayahs. They conceal even while they know. Disbelief in

prophet was done with full knowledge. Like Saffia’s father. Sincere Christians will know Islam is the truth. A brother from Somalia was sent to Europe to train to become close to pope – and then he became Muslim. Converted 20,000 people and then was kidnapped or killed

11. Ayah 43: Establish prayer – and do it with other believers, join forces and gain strength 12. Wolf will take the last, straggling, few sheep – not the ones in the middle of the pack. Wildebeest – eaten by lions, they even have to leave

their babies if they are not able to move fast enough. The part separated from the group is the one eaten 13. Some people get detained – which is really arrested (for 12 years!). Two types of people who get detained – one type are those you have no

idea who they are – they are not involved in the community. Someone else gets arrested. He is critical to the masjid – he is in the middle of the herd. Everyone will rise up for him. In the middle – you have the strength of the pack

14. If they are not eating you up – they will certainly eat up your children. Buy the house – but buy it near the masjid 15. Ayah 44: how can you order righteousness – and forget yourself? The prophet saaw went to visit a sick Jewish boy. The boy looked at his

father. The father said – obey Abul Qasim. The boy died. The prophet saw was crying that he was saved by the hellfire. The father never became Muslim himself

16. You have to give daawah because Allah commanded it – whether you’re good at it or not. And you have to enjoin the good and forbid the evil – and do it yourselves. Otherwise it is hypocrisy

17. You are always doing daawah whether it’s good or bad – through your being at the club or holding a glass of alcohol. Islam is great – Muslims are not. How about we follow it? In hellfire this person would say that I used to tell you to do good things – but did not do it myself

18. When Allah destroyed the people who fished on the Sabbath – the people that were saved, were the ones who actively enjoined the good and forbade the evil

Ayah 45: 19. Ayah 45: Seek aid in patience and prayer. Patience from three things:

a. Need patience for worship/ E.g. fajr prayers b. Need patience to not disobey Allah e.g. paan, smoking. It’s not patience if you don’t desire it. Sabr. When you hold back on your

desire c. Patience for qadaa o qadr. E.g. Death in the family

20. And in your salah you will find assistance and aid. These issues are very difficult unless you have khushoo. E.g. men have to do 5 prayers a day in masjid until they die. Knock on a non-Muslim’s door for each prayer. I can’t come for each prayer. It’s easy for those with taqwa

Ayah 46: 21. Ayah 46: Focus on the hereafter – so it is easy. Sometimes people focus on their age 62 retirement. Decision to purchase or rent a house –

they say when you are 65, do you want to still be renting? Look beyond 65 22. I will meet Allah at age 75 – and then go straight to hellfire. Look at the bigger picture – then you will make the right decision 23. Allah will ask you about all your deeds 24. Imam Ahmed was told to make an Islamic fatwa that was wrong. He said no. Told guard to go look outside and tell me what you see. He said

I see all these students with paper and pen ready to write down what I said – recorded for all history. How will I face Allah after that? His

-13-

whole decision is based on what will I say to Allah swt? And I am going to say – that I did not say the wrong thing. Then Allah will decide whether to have mercy or not. He was lashed 80 times – he said that day I said my duhr salah standing up with my back straight – this is the honor and nobility of a believer

25. Imanrush zone: How can you get this rush of Imaan all the time? How do people get into the zone? How do you get to the spot where every shot goes in – magnet to the net. There are 4 steps to stay in zone:

a. Step 1 - you need a fitnah/ a problem to get into the zone – the last game or an aunt who is messing up your marriage, don’t have kids, child not listening. There is always a problem – this is a test. Your whole life is full of tests. Everything you have is a test – wealth, beauty, and degrees. You don’t even know you’re being tested – this is the hardest. Will you be thankful if it’s good? Will you be patient if it’s bad? Will you be angry for more than three days?

b. Step 2: Patience – step back and reflect. Being patient at a time of intense pain – will flood you with intense Imaan. Brother had one week to live. He’s from Iraq and migrated to Australia. He made me cry so many times – because of his patience. He said to me I have seen so many people die on the battlefield – I do not fear my return to my lord. One sister’s daughter died. Her daughter’s death elevated the Imaan of the entire family. It comes from patience

c. Stage 3 is the zone. Going into zone. d. Stage 4 – coming out in a higher state of deen. Child died. Before they used to drink alcohol – and now they don’t. Can’t go back to

watching TV after a great khutbah that made you cry

26. How often do problems come up? Everyday. Kick off the Imanrush zone at every salah – if you say it with meaning 27. Story: Someone double-parked my car. No other car double-parked except mine. No need for it – lots of space. The guy came over and said

I didn’t know you needed your car as you were teaching inside. I was upset. I did not take step 2 of being patient, so was just had poisoned. If you are not patient – the problem becomes the poison. When I got the parking ticket – I made the intention to remain patient – that was the happiest ticket of my life. Got an Imaan rush

28. Good books on business: Rich dad, poor dad. Talks about money 29. Concentration in salah: there is website with a whole journal on how to improve – heartwheeljournal.com 30. If you go into rukuh or sujood do not leave until you understand at least twice what you have just said – subhanna how far is Allah from

imperfection, rabbi my lord, aala – the most high. Now you have a little burst of Imaan rush 31. How do you maintain Imaan: Don’t let the “down” last too long. There are highs and lows – the goal is to keep the dips as shallow as possible

– and the graph should always be ascending – so the dip is happening at a higher level 32. Why does Allah need us to worship him? Why? Because Allah said so. “Why” in these cases are not beneficial questions – “how” and “what”

is more beneficial. It is being used as an excuse to not worship Him. This is a bluff question 33. If you’re not a slave to Allah – you will be a slave to something, someone else. You are slave to your desires, job, etc. This is the only thing

that will set you free 34. quran.islamicity.com – phonetic search for Ayahs

Quiz Questions: 1. Mention three recurring themes that we have studied so far?

a. Guidance – Hidaaya b. Categorization of people c. Ibaadaa d. Knowing your origin e. Taqwa f. Hypocrisy g. Obedience h. Why Allah misguides i. Provisions- reminder of gifts j. Forgiveness k. Repentance l. Tawheed m. ilm n. Characteristics of believers and disbelievers o. Leadership and the ability to take criticism p. Why does it repeat? Because we need to pay attention – don’t have to read through the whole Quran to get to it

2. What’s the difference between the objection of Iblees versus objection of the angels?

a. Iblees did not share it at the right time – shura – when he was given the opportunity to openly share it. Iblees did not share what was in his heart even though Allah swt knew it

b. Angels were not being arrogant – just a statement of fact. Iblees said it with arrogance c. Iblees had anger d. Did not prostrate

-14-

3. Why is it that one should not focus on issues that do not bring practical benefit? a. Distract you from the real goal. Spend your whole life doing this – and then end up in the hellfire b. It’s a hypothetical issue – but we still end up fighting about it – causes fitnah and confusion c. Imaan is not going up – Imaan could go up with the right questions d. If it has not happened yet – it is hypothetical – there is no reason to spend time on this. Focus on things that can be implemented in a

situation today. Waste of time, can re-deploy energy on things that can bring benefit to a current situation

October 17, 2008 Ayah 40-48: The Children of Israel and The Quran:

Ayah 47-48 1. Doing good deeds is following the Prophet saaw. I have preferred you over the alameen. Because they were worshipping 2. They were preferred because of their good deeds at that time. Are they preferred over ummah of Mohammed saaw? No. Those who truly

follow Islam are preferred over all others 3. We don’t know if they were preferred over people before them – Allah ho aalum 4. If someone worships Allah – Allah elevates them. When they do not – they fall from grace. When you distance yourself from the deen –

humility and disgrace comes from that. Explains why Muslims are in that state. When you go back to the commandments – you go back to the best of humans

5. Ayah 48: Shifa’a is if someone goes to court and someone tried interceding on their behalf. If intercession weren’t there, outcome would be different. No intercession will be accepted on the Day of Judgment

6. No one can stop the punishment of Allah – who can fight back? No one can fight an earthquake, stop it or fight with Allah after the earthquake 7. Intercession will be only of those that Allah allows. The main intercession is the Prophet saaw’s. When we ask for that – we ask Allah for it –

we do not pray to the prophet – that would be shirk. If we made a statement like that –we would be going out of Islam 8. What if someone wants to ransom themselves on the day of judgment? No money will be accepted 9. The Prophet saaw said that he wanted to save Abu Talib because he died in a state of Kufr – Allah swt did not give permission for intercession

for him

Ayah 49-53: For What Must they Be Thankful For? Ayah 49: 1. Ayah 49 : The story of Musa is the most oft repeated and in most detailed in the Quran 2. Firaun had a dream that a boy from Bani Israel will murder him. So he wanted to kill all the boys. This is how wicked he was. His economic

minister said you can’t kill all the boys or you’ll have no slaves. So kill alternate years. Haroon was born in that year and Musa in the year to be killed. Who has more right to Musa? Muslims do. These gifts that Allah gave them are what we have to be thankful for as Muslims

3. Girls would become slaves – not just left alone 4. Even Allah swt is saying that this was a huge test. Even the kids are being tested. Have we been tested with someone coming to kill your

children? Thank Allah that we have not been tested like this 5. Tests come in both good times and hard times. When Bani Israel had children killed like that – and when Allah saved the kids – in both cases

we have to be patient and thankful for Allah. If pain intensifies, it either crushes us down, or brings us back to Allah 6. Indonesians love to go to hajj very early in life. One young couple said we came for hajj and missed the tsunami 7. Righteous brother said this is a lesson for us 8. Was it that Allah was angry with us – is it a punishment, or something to elevate the status of those suffering? It depends on our reaction. If

we react well – it elevates us, if we become ungrateful or complain, it is a punishment and we’ve missed out on the reward 9. So if a child dies do the parents complain? When a woman’s child died, Prophet saaw said be patient. Woman said to prophet alaika anthi get

lost – you have not been tested. So Prophet saaw said Patience is considered patience at the first hit of the calamity 10. Patience is our immediate reaction. We can’t get angry and three days later you saw now I’m patient. When in car accident – be patient

immediately not after you have lashed out at somebody Ayah 50-51: 11. Ayah 50: wa izh. Remember. Sea parted and walked through it. He said quickly let’s go in – they are not better than us. He believed this in

his arrogance. He was wrong and died 12. Ayah 51: You would think Bani Israel would be the most righteous after that, but were not. You can be released from slavery – but your mind

has to be freed. You mind is still enslaved. They saw people worshipping a tree and said to Musa – designate a tree for us to worship. Musa said it is haram

13. They made an idol of gold and worshipped it. Musa had gone to receive guidance from Allah. Haroon was still among the people. Samidi – probably translates as good Samaritan

14. Some say in a seashell you can hear the sea. That is just misguidance like Bani Israel! It is just the air going through it 15. They made a hole through the butt and the mouth of the cow and so there was sound from it – and they said this is alive. Samidi said this is

your god and Musa’s god too. The people said we will not stop worshipping until Musa comes back 16. Name-dropping: Some say I’m doing it coz so and so is doing this – or Abu Hanifa said it or Prophet saaw said it. It’s fabrication. Or say

sheikh so and so said it – so it’s ok to do it

-15-

17. There is nothing Muslims are as united on, as much as condemning 9/11. We can’t even unite on moon sighting! 10 million Muslims said it was bad. 1 guy said it is ok – we don’t even know who this guy is

18. They are trying to influence by picking and choosing which message gets through to you. We’re smarter than that. We look at who’s bringing you the information. Your sheikh is your friend in the MSA or a family friend. If he didn’t agree with certain opinions, he wouldn’t be sharing it with you. So you are getting selected information. Keep clear so you are not misguided. Seek guidance from the most knowledgeable person you have access to, not just any friend

19. Ibn Huzm Rahim Allah is often quoted on the music issue. However, they only follow his opinion on the music issue – don’t follow any other rulings of his. We pick and choose like at a salad bar

Ayah 52-53: 20. Ayah 52. Allah forgave them. Very intense tawbah. He forgave them so that they would be grateful. However they went back to the next

atrocity. Allah gave them also: 21. Ayah 53: Allah gave them the Al Furqan – the torah so that they would be guided. Grateful and guided

Ayah 54-66 The Breach of Covenant: Ayah 54-55 1. Ayah 54: The breach of covenant. Qawm is a very beautiful way to address his people. Even though this is a very difficult time, and Musa is

angry – he is still using nice language for them 2. When a person commits sin – they are only harming themselves 3. Musa said: You have done zulm only to yourselves by worshipping the calf. So repent to your originator and creator. Who is it that you are

worshipping – it is the one who created me – the one who made me 4. Their tawbah was to execute each other. Very severe punishment. If someone works on the Sabbath – what is the punishment – it is death.

They will be executed for working on the Sabbath 5. Look at how you do tawbah. We do it by words and good deeds. But the people before us – tawbah could be as difficult as death 6. This is better for you with your creator and Allah forgave them. This was their test. This is how they did tawbah – they did in fact kill each

other and Musa made dua from them. Whoever remained after that – Allah forgave them 7. Ayah 55. They said we won’t believe you. After all this. If you don’t do what we tell you to do – we will not believe you. This is how they

acted with Musa and with god. So Allah destroyed them with a thunderbolt. Even Muslims ask this question – we need to see Allah to believe Ayah 56: 8. Ayah 56 Then Allah resurrected them from the dead – so that they would be grateful 9. Purpose of a punishment is not to make money for the government. If red light is only 50 cent fine, we would do it all the time. It is not a

deterrent. In Saudi Arabia it is written in red on all immigration forms – drug traffickers will be killed 10. Who wants to live in Columbia? You don’t want to live where criminals feel safe. People don’t steal coz they’ll have their hands cut off. Go to

Makkah people up at three am are those going for qayam ul layl. Anywhere else – it would be the vampires! 11. Guy hit by drunken woman and could have survived if called ambulance. She went to jail for 50 years. Someone said now we lost 2 lives.

When police is called – 80% of all calls are related to drugs and alcohol. All crime stems from them. How many lives have you lost? 12. Not following Allah swt has caused all these lives to be lost. Suzie Ormond says pay all your payments on time, cut up your credit cards. This

is Islam’s message. If I were not Muslim – what would stop me from alcohol or Ribaa? That is what is saving us 13. Allah’s purpose is to bring safety and justice to the people – by being deterred from crime by severe punishment Ayah 57: 14. Ayah 57. If you were to live outside all the time – you would know how powerful storms and the sun is. But Allah covered Bani Israel with

clouds and sent them food and drink 15. Manna is a type of drink – sweet honey drink. Salwa is a quail. They did not have to work for it. They had meal and drinks. They just had to

say Alhamdolillah – but that is not what they decided 16. If Allah swt made it halal – Allah wants us to have it 17. Don’t fall into what non-Muslims do – it is permissible to have a nice car. It is not haram to have a Ferrari! Ask yourself – did Allah make it

haram? No, then go focus on something that is haram – there’s enough of those. Sister with SUV – may be doing it out of modesty – maybe she could get a great Mercedes. Nice car may be a reflection of how much someone can benefit the community by giving – they are giving more zakah. Allah wishes for you to partake from the halal things

18. The prophet saaw said – a person having marital relations from his wife is like getting ajar. He was asked – why? Prophet saaw said – if he did it in haram – would he get punished for it? Yes. If he does it in halal – they would get ajar for it

19. Have higher goals – why not? Have big goals. Don’t pull down others. Why are a 1000 people not coming to your halaqaa? Only our minds are stopping us

20. Lord of the flies – it is a good book even though we’re forced to read it in school. Excerpt and summary 21. Civility is merely another weapon to use in the war – anything other than the laws of Allah is savagery 22. 5 Ayahs in Surah that talk about resurrection in Surah Baqarah – 5 stories 23. Subhana hu wu Ta’ala. Subhana – glory be to Him. SubhanAllah – imperfection. How far Allah is from imperfection. Glory be to Him. Wa

Ta’ala means most high. 24. Prays, zakah, parents, no anger, no Ribaa, these are all ways to thank Allah

-16-

Ayah 58-59: 25. Ayah 58: they were told to enter into Jerusalem – and they did not. After many years they did. They needed to enter with humility 26. A believing army does not conquer with arrogance. This is the day when Makkah becomes Allah’s – everyone could be slaughtered in

Makkah. No, this is the day that Makkah is honored. No idols would be there anymore. Prophet saaw had his head to the ground in humbleness

27. When someone acts arrogantly Allah disgraces them. Happens in sports all the time. Those who are humble become honor 28. Enter in sajdah and ask Allah for forgiveness, and Allah will forgive you. Is it so hard? And those who do ihsaan Allah swt will increase them.

You get treated the way you treat others 29. How did Bani Israel respond? They mocked the commandments. It’s playing game with the words. Parent says say sorry – child says

"Thorry" - not sorry. Do not want to submit. They changed the words – out of arrogance to Allah. Not every Jew did this – but those who did zulm among them. All did not do it – but it was the majority of them

30. Ayah 59: Allah sent down upon them punishment because of their fisq. Fisq that is Kufr or fisq that is of a rebellious transgressor – such as a plant breaks away from the sand. It is transgressing the sand. A Fasiq goes the extra mile in doing wrong arrogantly. For example, someone who openly eats in front of fasters, disrespecting them. They are rebellious. There are consequences to it, and can’t get away with it

31. Because a person sins – had they not sinned – Allah had rizk coming to them – and that is steered away from them. It is steered away because of our fisq. That wealth was coming to them – had we only obeyed Allah swt – because of our sins – we are missed out from the rizk

32. One student takes Ribaa loan to study. One says I will not do it. Those skills of earning your own money will be more valuable to you than the school education. You can then study what you want. Do not need to take Ribaa loans

Ayah 60: 33. Ayah 60: Musa asked Allah for rain. They are lost in the desert. Rain prayer is done usually outside of Canada. We have snow – and don’t

usually need to do the rain prayer. Would you like to drink water? Alhamdolillah – that’s the snow 34. Water is more valuable than oil. Musa made dua for water. Allah said hit your rock with your staff. Staff comes up multiple times. Comes up

4 times in Surah. With Firaun, with magician, to separate sea 35. Musa hit the rock to get water. Broke into 12 streams – so that there would be no fighting over the water – out of the mercy of Allah swt.

People do kill over the water (as they have killed over oil) 36. Allah said eat and drink and enjoy it – but don’t cause mischief in the land. But people insist on going to the haram things. We should enjoy

the halal. Enjoy the meal. Say Alhamdolillah. Share it with others 37. This is what the angels said that Adam would do – that Adam’s offspring would spread mischief in the land and Allah said: I know what you do

not know. Everybody does this wrong stuff – and Bani Israel became an example to everybody of what not to do Ayah 61: 38. Ayah 61: Allah blessed them. Saved them from Firaun, parted the sea, the nine signs were sent down, yet they worshipped an idol. Allah

destroyed them and then Allah forgave them and resurrected them out of mercy, yet they entered the land wrongfully. Allah gave them shade and 12 streams of water – they had to do nothing, but enjoy it. And NOW they are saying – we don’t like the food. They don’t have to work for it – Allah is providing it for them

39. When people enter jannah they say Alhamdolillah that Allah saved us from huzun – depression. Does this mean that these people were depressed on earth?

40. But in tafseer we find out that hazzunn is the search for food and drink, the paying of bills. We call it the 9-5. You no longer have to work for the food and shelter. So now Bani Israel had this blessing. They were free from huzun. They said we need variety. We eat almost the same thing – like some spouses say – you just serve us chicken or chicken. Even fish tastes like chicken

41. They said “Go make dua to your god.” But Allah is the lord of everyone – not just Musa. This way of addressing Musa is petty and disrespectful to Musa. Tell your lord to give us herbs, cucumbers, garlic and lentils and onions. A Mediterranean diet! These are the raw ingredients – now they have to cook these – they have now asked for a life of cooking

42. Musa did not even make dua for it – because it was less than what they already had. He said to them Go to any town and you will get what you were asking

43. They were humiliated because of what they did. They got humiliation in poverty and were turned away with Allah’s anger 44. Jews are still accused of miserliness today. Muslims should not partake in ridiculing an entire nation of people. That’s not what a Muslim

does, so don’t do it. You can make better jokes than that 45. Did the Jews inherit the sins of their forefathers? No, this is a Christian concept. This is fault imputation – original sin. We do not believe in it 46. There are other reasons your children are messed up – not because you were bad as a child yourself. This is a haram concept 47. No soul bears the burden of another 48. However, a messed up parent can misguide their child. The person (parent) that is trying to correct the child is actually a hypocrite – so the

upbringing doesn’t work 49. But there is no inheritance – how many kids turn out good with horrible parents 50. If someone is humiliated – it was because of our own actions 51. We often only use sticks – not carrots with our kids. Be ready to put your foot down, but tell them why they need to do it. Richard Branson

owns Virgin Airlines – he’s a multi-billionaire. His mother stopped in the middle of the country one day when he was 7 or 8 years old and stopped the car and told him to get out and find his way home – that he was old enough now. Now he is a billionaire. Discipline may hurt a parent but is good for the family

-17-

52. Prophets being killed – Bani Israel killed Yahya, Zachariyah, Isa, and Uzair. They killed and continued to kill prophets. Tried to kill Muhammad on multiple occasions. Prophet saaw was sitting by a wall one day and they tried to throw a stone down. Khaiba was a Jewish woman who poisoned sheep and gave it to the Prophet saaw. And a few years later, this is what killed him

53. If we find ourselves covered in humiliation and poverty – or in many riches and no Imaan – check back and see what the state of Imaan is if you find yourself in this situation

54. Remember the concept of the “Fire Exit.” There is always a way out. Whenever hellfire is mentioned in the Quran – there is always a way out. Everyone has an opportunity to escape the fire. Would you like to escape or stay in the fire? People insist on falling into the fire. But Allah can forgive everything for us – including shirk. We all have this opportunity in our life – but not after. Shirk will not be forgiven after our death. Allah always gives us a way out. This is your alternative – there is always one

Ayah 62: 55. Ayah 62: sabeyan are people with no religion. Whoever believes in Allah, final day, righteous deeds, they will have their reward with their lord.

Only if you believe in Allah – not all Jews and Christians – but those that believe what Allah said and in His messenger

October 18, 2008 Ayah 67-74 The Cow

Ayah 67-68: 1. We should reflect on why the whole Surah is called Baqarah – what lessons to derive from this story out of all the stories in 286 Ayahs 2. Ayah 67: someone was killed, they wanted to know the killer, asked Musa for help in finding him. Musa said slaughter a cow 3. Instead of responding in obedience, they said you mock us 4. As Muslims, we follow the command of Allah swt – we don’t worship the kaabah – we go around it coz Allah told us. We don’t follow our own

reasoning. We pray 5 times a day – not 8 times, not 3 times – because Allah told us. We submit. We follow the commands 5. Someone lost some money, could not remember where he had put it. He went to a sheikh who told him to pray 2 rakah. How is that related to

looking for money? Shaikh said there is a special shaitan “Khanzab” that comes in salah and distracts us. And that is how he found his money. Shows how much we need to focus to not let Khanzab be successful in distracting us

6. Al Aleem: This is the second most mentioned name of Allah in the Quran 7. You asked for His help, you get His help – how do you respond? You don’t mock. But even after Bani Israel’s reaction, Musa’s response was

very gentle – he said, I seek refuge from being among the ignorant 8. Ayah 68: Call upon your lord – again they are being impolite, Allah is not only Musa’s lord. Allah had made it easy for them – He had said –

slaughter any cow. But then they were just asking for the sake of arguing. So Allah made it difficult for them. Gave them description and then said follow the commandment

9. You and I are servants of Allah. Ismail said to his father, go ahead and slaughter me if that’s what you have seen in your dreams. Do it – we are servants of Allah and we have but no choice. This is the difference between those who are obedient and those who are procrastinators. We listen and obey. They listen and argue, listen and disobey

10. So learn what is the right question to ask Ayah 69-70: 11. Ayah 69: Now they want to know the color. They are still not satisfied. They are making it difficult – so Allah is making it difficult for them 12. Ayah 70: Still denying and saying that all cows are alike 13. What is the meaning of inshaAllah? Anything that happens is with the permission of Allah. We can do nothing without the will of Allah swt.

The prophet saaw forgot to say this one time. Allah stopped revelation for two weeks. Then it was revealed in Surah Baqarah that never say that I will do anything without saying inshaAllah. How many times do we forget? How many times do we reflect on the meaning of inshaAllah?

14. IBM – InshaAllah, buqraa, maafi mushkillaa – used by procrastinators 15. Don’t use inshaAllah as a “juha’a.” A man said I am going to buy a cow. He didn’t say inshaAllah. Then money got stolen so now he said –

The money is stolen inshaAllah. This is not the right use of inshaAllah Ayah 71-74: 16. Ayah 71: Now they say to Musa, after all these question, now you have come with the truth. He was a prophet – he was not lying 17. Ayah 72 – they were fighting over it – but Allah will make it clear – after slaughtering a cow. Miracle from Allah swt. Dead cow, dead person –

only Allah could do it 18. Ayah 73: they saw this miracle with their own eyes – Allah wanted to show them his power and signs 19. Imaan goes up with obedience, and comes down with disobedience. This miracle should have brought their Imaan up 20. Ayah 74: This was to soften their hearts – but they became harder than stones. Even stones soften and water gushes out of them 21. Lessons of the story of the cow:

a. Listen to the commands of Allah b. We should resort to Allah always, know Him at times of ease so He could help us in times of hardship c. Do not make fun of Allah or his prophets d. Do not be arrogant e. Do not make things harder for yourself – deen is not to suit our reasoning f. Try to understand the power of Allah – only He can do the miracle

22. They asked four questions of Musa – and started with are you mocking us?

-18-

23. Story of the cow: when they asked Musa – who killed the person, they mocked what Musa said. That is not the right way to react to questions 24. In your life, don’t make fun of people who ask questions – no matter how silly it sounds to us

Ayah 75-82: Altering the Word of Allah Ayah 75-76: 1. Ayah 75 – they used to change the words of Allah. Allah is saying – are you hoping that they will believe? They change the words to suit their

needs. And it was premeditated 2. Tahreer lfadhee and tahreer Ma’nawee: First is to change the letters of the Quran, drop letters or words of the Quran or insert new ones.

Some Ayahs were maintained in the Bible – so you cannot disrespect the Bible either – whether you see it in a hotel or anywhere else 3. The Quran cannot be changed. There was an interfaith session – Shaikh and a Christian priest were conducting it. The sheikh said to the

group I will read the Quran – and wherever I read it incorrectly raise your hand. So he read Surah Fatiha – mispronounced one word and everyone raised hand. He said to the Priest to do the same – Priest said we cannot do this for the authentication of the Bible – they will not be able to raise their hands

4. So tahreer ifadhee – we cannot change the letters of the Quran. However, for tahreer ma’nawee, it can be changed. Can be changed in meaning. But only the ignorant can be misguided by such changes – not the people of knowledge. This is why we must continue to expand out knowledge so that we cannot be misguided by those with wrong intentions

5. Ayah 76: They say to you “We believe.” Now there are us Muslims who do this. We say we believe in Jesus. Finish the sentence. You must say We believe in Jesus and in Muhammad and in Musa, and we do not believe in the trinity and those who do go to hellfire. Finish the sentence – do not express your faith in partial terms

6. Then they would go and sit with themselves and would reprimand each other. Why are you saying that? It will be used against you on the Day of Judgment. Lets pretend that we’re ignorant. This will not help if you know in your heart, that this is the truth. Will you not use the intellect instead? In so many places in the Quran, Allah says, and you do not think, and you do not reflect. Think!

7. Seeking knowledge is fard. In a camp that Shaikh Al-Shareef attended as a child, kids kept asking questions in camp – and the sheikh kept answering, this is haram, that is haram. And the kids were thinking, whoa, is everything haram in Islam? No. But we only ask about the haram – we have curiosities about the haram. And we are often looking for shortcuts around it – so we ask about Ribaa mortgages, about dating, about alcohol etc. We know the answers. We don’t ask about the halal as much

Ayah 77-79: 8. Ayah 77: Allah knows the hidden and the concealed. Ignorance cannot be used as an excuse 9. Ayah 78: from them are the illiterates. The only thing they know is wishful thinking and guessing. Actual scriptures they don’t know. All they

do is guesses. 10. And today, this is how many of us live our deen. We say – I don’t really know, I’m not really sure, but…..Just stop and say I DON’T KNOW.

The End. Keep quiet. I don’t need your guesses. Your guesses do nothing for me. I can listen to Imam Shafi's “guess,” who is a great scholar, but not the guesses of just any of my friends

11. Do not dwell on questions and things we do not understand. Do not indulge in wishful thinking – for example, we’re all going to paradise, without repentance. Who told you that? Where did you read that repentance is not necessary?

12. If the Prophet saaw came to Calgary – you won’t even know what he’s saying. Learn Arabic, learn the Quran. The Quran raises people up. Puts you up on a bit of a pedestal. So be very careful – and do not indulge in any guesses if people ask you questions. Just say I do not know. Learn the Quran – Arabic will come after that. When you memorize, it also increases pressure to learn more about deen

13. Indonesians and Malaysians have lots of focus on tajweed – lots of respect for it. Pakistanis have lots of focus on memorization 14. Ayah 79: They write with their own hands and say it’s from Allah. Or they will do the same to the sunnah of the prophet – so people will follow

what they’re saying 15. Remember – the deen is complete – you do not need to complete it for the Prophet. Who are we to do that? If you say Fatiha 20,000 times,

you will get a Lexus, or sawaab of 70,000 shaheed. It is a lie. Whether you are saying it with good or bad intentions – it is always haram 16. It is just a small price. Whether its power or money. A person will lie to maintain power over the people. They are cursed because of what

their hands write. So if you write a Ribaa contract or cheat on an exam – the writing of the contract is haram. Whatever benefit you get from contract is haram. You wrote the exam, graduated, then any money you get from the degree is haram. Do tawbah. Don’t think, oh my god, everything is haram! It’s not – but inquire more about the halaal

Ayah 80-82: 17. Ayah 80: We’re not going to go to hellfire except for a few days. Jews and Christians used to say that and now Muslims do this. Quran is full

of examples like that – of Jews, yet they are things that now we do 18. Human beings are never stagnant – never on the same level. High in morning, low in afternoon after lunch. Imaan goes down, repentence

goes up, sin goes down 19. This going-to-hell-for-a-few-days philosophy is a trick of shaitan, so that you may fall right outside the realm of goodness 20. Ayah 81-82 nobody goes to jannah unless they are cleansed – either through tawbah or through hellfire. Allah swt says to them – do you have

a contract with Allah that you will only go for a little bit? Do you have some promise from Allah? No we don’t. Because Allah will never break a promise. Or are you saying something about Allah that you do not know?

21. Everybody is saying they are on the truth. Who is? If your sins have accumulated sins, and their sins surround from all directions, they will be the people of hell-fire – for all of eternity. Those who believe and did righteous deeds will be in jannah inshaAllah

-19-

Questions 1. 1) When is the day of judgment. 2) what is the soul 3) what is fate 4) asking about the faults of others. What do you think of so and so? Its

called the National Enquirer. Do not ask about things that don’t make a difference 2. The issue of fate is covered in aqeedah classes – so you can find out more about that 3. There is no obedience to humans if it involves disobedience to Allah. We will be held accountable if we listen to parents and teachers that tell

us to disobey Allah. This is the way it is. We cannot change their hearts – it’s not in our power. If you have just become Muslim, say to them I love Allah more than I love you – so do not feel hurt, as I will not change my religion now

Ayah 83-86: And Again – Alliance Against Their Own People

Ayah 83-84: 1. Ayah 83: from Ishaq came Yaqoob, Yusuf and then Mohammad. So Jews and Christians are our cousins. The contract is – that humans will

not worship anyone but Allah. Treat your parents kindly. Treat near of kin kindly, and the orphans and the needy. And speak good words to the people. Establish your prayers and zakah. This is all in the treaty. We have all been commanded to do the same. Do we fulfill these categories?

2. Let’s go through each category. Worship Allah alone – lots of grave worship in many parts of the world or asking dead saints/ prophets or alive “religious” people to grant your wishes. If we do that, we are no longer worshipping Allah alone

3. Parents – did you do ihsaan to your parents – how can we expect our kids to do ihsaan with us? Every parent in the end wants obedience and kindness

4. Do we take care of orphans and needy? No. Churches/government often do, but we are not as proactive about this as we can be 5. Ayah 84: you testified not to shed blood. How many wars have we seen in our lifetime? Haram to kill each other as Muslims. Do not expel

each other. Think of refugees. We know its haram, but we still do it Ayah 85-86: 6. Ayah 85: fighting each other in sin and transgression. We raise money for refugees – but we are the ones who create refugees by bombing in

the first place 7. We often say – but I didn’t kill them. Fine, but did you raise your voice against the killing? 8. How can you believe in some parts of the book and then leave the rest? This leads to humiliation. We take Ribaa, expel one another and then

wonder why we’re disgraced. Punished in both lives – here and the hereafter 9. Afghani Northern Alliance partners with the US. They were shot dead by their allies. Friendly fire. They did not even apologize. You allied

with the kufaar. As a member of the Northern Alliance – will you get a visa to the US? Never. 10. Ayah 86: I’d like to buy the dunya. I have hereafter bucks. Soon you have no hereafter bucks left. They have nothing left – and they get

nothing in the hereafter – and are humiliated in this world also. If you care about Allah swt – you are consistent. Will not have halal meat, and then alcohol. You don’t have the intention to please Allah – only to make money

11. One Muslim owner stopped serving alcohol in at a UK restaurant. The whole establishment was taken over by Muslims and non-Muslims who don’t drink – they are so many of them out there to support such initiatives. At 1 am the restaurant is still packed. If you fear Allah swt – Allah opens up doors for you. If they place trust elsewhere, then they are humiliated in this dunya and humiliated in the hereafter. Nobody will help them

Ayah 87-93: Shunning God’s Word

Ayah 87-88: 1. Ayah 87: We followed Musa with many messengers. Allah gave clear signs to Jesus and assisted him and supported him with the holy spirit.

This Spirit was the angel Jibreel 2. Each prophet got signs according to their time:

a. Musa was given magic. Magicians became Jew first b. When Isa came, medicine was the thing of his time so he came with miraculous healing powers. Those healed became Christian

first c. With Muhammad saaw, poetry was the thing of the time, so he came with the most miraculous poetry and prose of the Quran. So

the poets believed in Prophet saaw first. 3. All this irshaad (guidance) came down to Bani Israel. Why is it – every single time, that the Prophet did not agree with your ha’waa, your

desires, you became arrogant? They would kill the prophets – not “fire” them from their “job” – but kill them, make sure he is not guiding anyone, anywhere

4. Our fiqh classes based on Shafi’i. Al Maghrib does have madh-habs 5. Ayah 88: They said our hearts are sealed. Who are "they?" We’ll see. 6. This is the response that we give while they are not following the message, the commands of Allah swt 7. So when they are asked: Why don’t you have a beard? They say “I believe it has to come from the heart.” Well, you must have a hairy chest! 8. Or they say “I haven’t been guided yet.” Well, do you go to juma? Do you listen to the khutbah? Do you have a Quran? Does your mosque

have Halaqaas? You’re the ones who have sealed your own hearts. You have been guided, you have been shown guidance 9. The real situation is – Allah has cursed them for their disbelief. We have accumulated just too much sin

-20-

10. For example, one person finally took a class in California after many years – and said I realize now – that the issue about my saying that I did not have enough money was my own accumulation of sin. I used it as an excuse. Nobody missed out on goodness – except himself. He just sat at home watching TV. We need some intelligence to step back behind our excuses and know what’s really going on

Ayah 89-91: 11. Ayah 89: when a book came to them from Allah, confirming the truth – the “password” was confirmed. The Jews prayed to Allah to send the

prophet at the end of time. Tribes Aws and Khazraj joined the Prophet saaw first – they said we’ll beat the Jews to it – as the Jews said that we’ll partner with the Prophet when he comes and will kill all you. After the tribes joined the Prophet saaw, the Jews disbelieved the Prophet saaw. Got arrogant because the Prophet was not “Jewish”

12. For example, in today’s life, if we have an imam from Niger – we say oh he’s not from Pakistan so we can’t believe what he’s saying. Or he’s too young, or not the right skin color. But if someone better than you comes along as a leader – pass on your reins to him

13. Curse means distanced from the mercy of Allah 14. Ayah 90. received anger upon anger 15. Ayah 91: Mohammed in the Bible – there are verses where Jesus said that a man will come like Moses. A military leader and a Prophet. How

is the holy spirit like Musa? It is not 16. Daawah to Jews and to atheists – we need to have different daawah approaches for each. Typical religion is non-god type of religion in

Canada 17. Every prophet that came to them – the Jews disbelieved and killed them 18. When a statement contradicts an action – then they’re lying. Statement goes to the side as soon as it is contradicted by an action. For

example someone says I’m fasting – and then they take a sip of water. What will you believe? Ayah 92-93: 19. Ayah 92: Musa came with the signs – and then you worshipped the cow. What kind of religion is this? 20. What were the nine signs of Musa?

a. 1) the staff of Musa b. 2) alyad – the hand was bright c. 3) as sineen – famine d. 4) naqsoom minath thamaraath – crops will not produce – almost the same as 3 e. 5) Floods happened to Firaun’s people f. 6) al jaraad – locusts g. 7) al qumal – lice h. 8) frogs – infested with frogs i. 9) water dam – the water turned to blood

21. After all these things happened the sea parted and they started worshipping the calf 22. Ayah 93: We took the promise: take what we gave you with strength. And listen. Bani Israel responded we have heard and we disobey.

Simana wa athana – we listen and we obey. We are told something is haram – we should just obey – not disobey 23. Omar ra said: I seek Allah’s protection from a situation where the Fasiq have an upper hand in the society. They have the enthusiasm to not

procrastinate in sins – they are not lazy in wrongdoing – they are at the bars all night. When was the last time that Muslims line up for something like people line up for bars and clubs?

24. In Australia – someone was visiting and said that it seems like the Christians in your country are weak. Fisq overcomes the city. Christian groups had magazines taken down in Wal-Mart in North America – what about Muslims? Why can’t we do it? A Christian priest goes to many gay rallies with a sign that says you’re all going to the hellfire. On the radio he gave a speech on the gay community and said if you’ve been afflicted by this – we’d like to help you

25. Hearts absorb the worship. When a person does not love Allah – their joy and need for the sin intensifies – it overwhelms them 26. For example, boyfriend and girlfriend from different religions – after a certain point – they’ll start defending their girlfriend/ boyfriend and then

move out of community. They drink up the sin. 27. If that is happening, come to a full stop, do tawbah. The sin becomes drunk in their hearts and they are soaking it up. Like a murderer who

keeps murdering 28. How wretched is the faith you believe - that it makes you do such zulm! 29. Sheikh Yusuf Estes is a priest – very successful daawah. Some guy after khutbah got up and started shouting you munafiq, you son of a - - - .

Showed a very poor first impression of the community. A convert was part of the audience - who had been Muslim for just half an hour. He said, Now I know this is the right path for me. Shaitan does not want me to become Muslim – I’m being tested by witnessing this outbreak and Shaitaan wants me to be influenced to not join the Muslim community

30. Sheikh Yusuf was asked why did you convert – he said I didn’t – I just became a true Christian ☺

Ayah 94-96: And Again: God Will Never Punish US Ayah 94-96: 1. Ayah 94: Some people say, like some Catholics, that the hereafter belongs to us. The Hereafter belongs to those who believe and who do

righteous deeds. Prophets come with their nations – and each prophet hopes that my nation does well

-21-

2. Ask these people, if you really believe that you are the only one – then why don’t you hope for death? Ask Allah to take you now. Why would you want to continue to be alive? Why don’t you just die if the Hereafter belongs to you?

3. Mubahallaaa is a way that some people have used to separate truth from falsehood. So if there were two people claiming to be truthful, they would take a public curse that whoever is on the truth, may Allah take their life – that is how Ghulam Mirza died

4. Ayah 95 – they will NEVER wish for death. Because of their actions 5. Ayah 96 – they are the greediest for any type of life. Even if they lived a miserable life, they want it – as long as they don’t die. Dunya, dunya,

dunya. They want a 1000 years. Even if they live this long – they would still go to hellfire 6. Wishing to die. Is it permissible to ask Allah to take your life? 7. Sometimes fitnah is so hard – that it might be better from them to be dead. It’s disliked for a person to wish for long life or for death. Might be

misguided towards end of life if have long life. Might miss out on good things like Ramadan and hajj if have short life. Prophet said the best thing to pray for is: If life is better for me give me more life. If death is better for me, take me up to you.

8. Hajj: someone’s son died, who had been suffering quite a lot. They had to wake him up and had to tell the father. The father said that I had made the above Dua’a during isha and then his son was taken away. Patience raises our rank. If we are patient at child’s death – that is a means for parents to go to jannah

Ayah 97-101: And Again: Hatred for Jibrael

Ayah 97-99: 1. Ayah 97: Jews believed Jibrael is “anti-Semitic” so when they found out Jibrael was bringing revelation they said That’s it! We’re not following

the prophet. How arrogant can you be that you think Allah loves you more than Abu Bakr? 2. When believers read the Quran – they see it as glad tiding for them. If you have love for the Quran – then they read that they have glad tidings

that they are among the believers. So lets pray we never get bored of the Quran 3. Ayah 98: Whoever is an enemy of Allah, or His messengers or angels – Allah is an enemy for them. Hadith Qudsi –statement of Allah – but a

statement that is found in the Hadith, and not in Quran. Hadith Qudsi: Whoever takes a wali (friend of Allah) as an enemy – verily I announce war against that person. So if you are making fun of religious and pious people, watch out, you are going to war with Allah. Watch out – don’t make fun of them or Allah will destroy us

4. Jibreel brings down life for the soul – wahee – mikaaeel brings down water – life for the body 5. Who is the enemy of God? Who is this? “Ado ullah.” Someone who disobeys Allah with arrogance – definition of enemy of Allah. It’s when

they disobey with arrogance 6. Ayah 99: The only people who deny it – are those who have accumulated sins. One plane hit a tower – it was an accident. Like humans from

monkeys! Second plane hit tower. Said it was terrorism. Accidents don’t happen with such perfection 7. They know the truth but they hold back, they deny it – because they don’t want to follow it. Males to females are roughly equal. How many

times do you need to knock over a bucket of ink for it to become a dictionary? No – it will never become a dictionary like that. Do they actually believe it? No. But they don’t want to give up on the pork, alcohol, interest – they are slaves to their own desires

Ayah 100-101: 8. Ayah 100: A group of them will break the covenant – every single time. But not every one of them. E.g. Suffya, daughter of Jewish chief,

Abdullah Ibn salaam, a Jewish scholar in Madina – became Muslim and married the Prophet saaw 9. Ayah 101: When a messenger came to them, again confirming, what they already have, Allah says they threw the books behind them. The

more they live, the further they will become from the book. Because it is behind them. A Jewish person was told - why don’t you leave the PR of your religion to someone else? He said, you’re mistaking us for Christians, you couldn’t become Jewish even if you wanted to. Because you have to be born into it. However Islam is for all – everywhere, at any stage of your life

Questions

1. Quran schools: in masjids in Saudi Arabia. Cornwall madrassa and in Ajax, Ontario. You need a good teacher- not necessarily a boarding

school 2. Choose the right teacher for your child – the right spouse. The qualities that you do want to see in your children – marry that person 3. Take your kids camping. Travel with them – expose them to different places and situations. Some Muslim kids in Winnipeg – messed up.

There is no fitnah in Winnipeg. Not like NY or LA. Those kids just didn’t travel. Have to keep building their own character. Go travel in the land

4. Aim for the stars. There was no current model to follow for Al-Maghrib University. So we looked at which educational institution in the history of Muhammad did the most good? Our goal is that I will do better than that. I want to be better than the best. Not comparing to local educational institutions at all – comparing to Al-Azhar and want to be better than that inshaAllah

5. In principal – contract is haram –but concept is ok. If someone buys home for you for $200,000 and sells it to you for $250,000 and you pay them in installments – that is halal

6. If someone has anger – you cannot curse someone else or say to Allah may I die. You should not generalize – that you always do this, always lie, always bad, etc. Be focused on ending the argument and finding a solution

7. Why do you do niqaab – why do I cover my face? You need to understand Islam, Allah, covering. There is a difference in opinion in covering face, but this is what I choose to do. Women dance in bars, wear tight clothes, wear no clothes, etc. They have a choice. Feminism is having choice, and this is my choice

8. Al-Hoda institute is very good – might even be more successful than Al-Maghrib alhodainstitute.ca

-22-

9. A righteous husband – if you remind them of Allah – they will be reminded. Others will not be moved by it. So marry right 10. Guests are guests for 3 days. After that they have no obligations on you

Ayah 102-103: Black Magic

Ayah 102: 1. Ayah 102: Black magic – this is about the Jews. How do you know? Because it says so in the previous Ayah. Sulaiman was a king, prophet

and messenger 2. You cannot do magic until you have stepped outside of the fold of Islam. It is Kufr. Blowing on knots, taweez, little balls, that is how to do black

magic 3. It can kill them, it can take intelligence away, change senses – become skewed, become intoxicated, take senses away. To make them love

crazy, or make a person hate someone so badly. It happens to people who have been far away from Allah. Maybe it is their fitnah that will bring them back to Allah

4. The shayateen were teaching black magic – two angels were teaching this as well. The angels were a test from Allah – and the angels clearly said – do not follow us as you will be misguided

5. Ayat-ul-Kursi will protect you, and so will adkhar 6. Also check how is your salah. These are like your seat belts – you are just looking for something to happen, if you do not wear your seat belts 7. Protection is with the Quran, eat with your right hand, dua for leaving home, dua to go to bathroom – learn all of these 8. Adkhar at fajr and asr are very important for protection. Teach to your children 9. For all other things, if I thought you could bring harm or benefit to me, I would have worshipped you Ayah 103: 10. Ayah 103: Fire exit. There is an escape for everybody. Even if you do black magic, but repent – there can still be give forgiveness for you.

Bracelets or necklace with Allah on it will not protect you. Cannot put power to the jewelry. Cannot write Quran on paper and then wear it – that does nothing for you

11. Don’t knock people on the head that you are in bidah. Find better ways to reach out to them 12. Instead, why not do a halaqaa? Be proactive. Give a halaqaa on the 20 ways to protect yourself from sehr and black magic. They would love

it. Then let them know that Allah hates it if you do numbers etc – so you are not singling anyone out or embarrassing them 13. Ruqya – reading Ayat ul Kursi and then blowing on hands or on olive oil etc is permissible 14. Evil eye is hasad. Qul aaoozo bi rabil falaq. Hasad is haram, it is a major sin – and will burn away their good deeds. It’s not Kufr like black

magic – but it is a major sin that they have to do 15. Reading Surah Mulk after isha is authentic. We read Surah Yasin to ease their soul departing. Repeating it everyday is not authentic.

Reading Surah Waaqiya for rizk may not be authentic – check it out. Adkhar is after asr anyway – not after Maghrib. 16. Yaa Mohammad – calling upon him for dua is not allowed – do not put it up in your homes or masjids 17. If you have black magic – need to change your life. Are you close to Allah? What is your lifestyle? If they are doing the outward things – they

may not be doing it for Allah, or for the right intention, so need to re-examine. It is possible for good people to be tested by this though. Return back to Allah swt. Islam will protect you. Black magic will be minimized – it may serve to bring them back to Allah

Ayah 104-123: Jews and Christians - What lies in the heart?

Ayah 104-105: 1. Ayah 104 : “Nidaa” means to call someone. Walking, and someone says yaa Mohammed. You stop to listen 2. When you see yaa ayo hal la dheen na aamannoo in the Quran – stop and listen – something important is about to be said 3. Raa’inaa – don’t say raa’inaa. We’re not allowed to use that – means give me a good deal. Means take care of us, pay attention to our needs.

Raa’oonaa – means feeble-minded or stupid – Jews used to say that. So until day of judgment – we are not supposed to use it 4. We choose language that people we are speaking to can easily understand, without misinterpretation 5. Everything has another option – zina – get married, Ribaa – start a business, bacon – turkey, alcohol – apple juice. We have alternatives. So

Allah is saying use the word “undhurnaa” instead 6. If you have a mortgage – you are going to war with Allah. We have alternatives for Ribaa. If we are equally insistent on finding halal options

for mortgages – we can make it happen. We did it for halal meat options. There are halal meat places in many small towns now – because we demanded it. Why don’t we demand halal financing?

7. Ayah 105: Idol worshippers do not wish for any good to come to Muslims, as do people of the book. You can still do business with them – but do not think they have any love for Muslims. Such as halal subway in England – they are doing it for their own benefit, to make profit, and because we created the demand for it

8. Allah can give his fazal to whomever he wants. Al Maghrib – one city was very angry. This man said he would not let Al-Maghrib come to this city – he allowed no posters, etc. He successfully stopped the spread of Islam

9. If someone wishes harm to happen to you – it cannot happen without Allah’s permission. If you are trying to build a wall and twenty are on the other side taking every brick down – how can you build the wall? If Allah wants it to be built – it will be. And if Allah does not want it to built – does not matter how many people are putting it up, it will not get done

Ayah 106-107:

-23-

10. Ayah 106: Nasf – to wipe up – naskh – like sand design being cleanly wiped away by the waves 11. So this means a ruling has been changed or cancelled 12. For example, suppose a woman goes to the Dr. who gives her a medication. Then she becomes pregnant. The very next day she tells the Dr

she is pregnant. So Dr says – no, now don’t take medicine, situation has changed. Dr did not contradict himself – the situation changed 13. The ruling could be changed to harder or easier or equivalent:

a. Easier to harder, alcohol, one-year imprisonment for zina to stoning to death b. Harder to easier – 50 prayers to 5 prayers. Or don’t have to rip their clothes, can just wash off najz c. Equivalence – praying to Aqsa and then to kaabah

14. So it is changed, because it is better for us this way. If it became harder, then we get more ajar. If made easier – it is because of Allah’s mercy. So each prayer is now equal to 10. If it is an equivalent change – we get ajjar for following it. There was a big fitnah in medina on change of Aqsa. All of these Ayah lead up to second juzz where qibla was changed

15. Islamic law follows wisdom. Innkeepers Act – they still have in there that tie your horses etc, even though noone “drives” horses now 16. Islam follows wisdom – there is no abrogation after the Prophet saaw. No one has the power to change law except Allah swt and the Prophet

saaw through him. Allah can do whatever He wants. Just be thankful that He is a merciful lord. We are the ones who have to answer – Allah does not have to answer to us

17. Ayah 107: Know that Allah has dominion of the heavens and the earth. Other than Allah swt, you have no wali or naseer. Wali is someone who brings goodness to you (like a parent who brings you food) Naseer is a protector from harm. Someone hit a child on the street, and the parent helps the child win – so the parent in this case is the naseer

18. Women need Mahram for traveling – wali. Signatory at wedding – looks out for the woman – do not bypass the wali. If someone is bypassing the wali, they are dodgy – be careful of them. These men can be very charming and can have influence over some women – but that’s where the wali can help

19. People who come to juma are the ones who build mosques, but not necessarily the ones who study Islam 20. We put in the effort – the result is in Allah’s hands. Four years ago we started. Some cities had 70 people attend classes. Chicago had 230

students. Toronto 140 students. We asked Chicago – what is the reason for your success? The leader there said I prayed qiyaam everyday, praying to Allah to make our class successful. Because of excessive qiyaam ul layl – this could be reason for their success

Ayah 108-109: 21. Ayah 108: do you want to ask your Prophet the way Bani Israel asked Musa? What are the main questions they asked Musa? They asked:

Show us Allah. They asked for food to be changed, for tree to be worshipped. Allah is teaching the addab to Muslims that do not ask questions like that

22. Prophet saaw was quiet when asked if hajj must be done every year. He did not answer three times. Then he said – do not ask excessive questions, do not question the prophet so much, and then you are not able to even follow it

23. Ask these questions: a. 1) An issue that is happening/ current. Do not ask - what if I am praying on top of the kaabah – which direction should I pray in?

When is that going to happen? Some people say – I want to debate with you – I’m not interested in convincing you b. 2) Student of knowledge that is genuinely trying to learn the issue.

24. Questions not to ask: a. 1) Don’t set up the speaker or your friend. Should we wear hijaab – asked by a hijaabee for a non-hijaabee b. 2) asking questions just for the sake of showing off – wow, what a big, intelligent question! c. 3) asking a question to stump a scholar – to make them look bad – malicious intention d. 4) Cause confusion, bringing up a different agenda – confusing the agenda. You can deal with it by saying, let’s give another person

a chance to ask questions 25. Ayah 109: They want to turn you back. It is only messed up people who turn their back on Islam – not a scholar who has high Imaan. Egypt –

Christian missionaries work very hard there. But there are many ways to get to Muslims. Get this generation away from deen – then the next generation will be ready for picking. Materialism and our desires will remove us from Islam

26. They try to find “fertile” land when they do this. Fitnah did not reach Medina, shaam, Makkah, because their knowledge was firm. It swept through nations that had recently converted, that were on shaky ground, and whose roots were not deep enough

27. How deep are our roots in Islam – and the roots of our children? 28. They do this out of jealousy – why did the truth come to them – why should they be guided? Why did the truth not come to us, they ask.

Forgive them and turn away – do not engage with them. Until they fought them in later battles 29. Missionaries study Islam and they sometimes get mad. We have 5 daily prayer – what do you have? Tawheed is so easy, belief in One God.

They are still trying to figure out what the trinity is. We have zakah, siyaam, systems, hajj. What religion in the world has that? When prayer time comes – everyone prays together. They have a “Rich” church, “African-American” church, or “Korean” church. In our masjids, sweeper, construction workers, wealthy from around the world, all pray together

Ayah 110-111: 30. Ayah 110: To be victorious, establish prayer and pay zakah. You cannot be victorious in disobedience to Allah 31. in the movie, The Last Samurai – he lives in the home of the person he killed – because of the honor. Muslim men took care of the kids and

wives of those killed in battle. Women would be taken care of 32. These are the people who are victorious – who are in obedience to Allah

-24-

33. Ayah 111: They say that you just have to believe in Jesus and you will be saved. Or You won’t enter paradise unless you are a Jew. Same said by Christians

34. Amaani – means when a person desires something without doing something for it. The desire has no basis to it. Allah says in response to them – these are your wishful desires

35. Allah says: Say – bring your proof if you are indeed truthful. This will floor the people you are having a daawah dialogue with. Ask them: What is your proof? We did not say you’re lying. That shuts off the conversation. Ask for their proof. You might learn something from them. Give them a chance to explain themselves – they most likely will have nothing to say

36. “What did Jesus really say?” Read this Book – the Quran. They don’t know their own scriptures 37. Chief came to the Prophet saaw. Offered riches, women, land – anything to him to make him stop. Was like an insult to the Prophet saaw.

Yet the Prophet saaw even then, let him finish, even though it was an insult to him. The prophet said: Have you said everything you needed/ wished to say? Then he said, listen to this. Then the Prophet saaw recited the Quran to him. The chief got up and covered the Prophet saaw’s mouth in case the punishment would came down right then and there for what he had done

38. After you ask them have you said everything you needed to say, repeat to them the three or more key points. Keep repeating until you have repeated all their main points. Then address the points – this technique reduces the debate and often gets to the hearts of the issues better and faster

Ayah 112-113: 39. Ayah 112: Who is on the truth? Whoever submits, and does ihsaan – they will have their reward with Allah and they will never have to grieve 40. Being good to your neighbor. What about being good to your Creator? Try going to Pizza Hut with a Domino’s coupon. Will not work. You’re

coming with the wrong intention. Being good to neighbor is part of religion, not whole religion 41. Ayah 113: This is a testament - a generality the Muslims should not do. The Shia have no truth. This group of Muslims has no truth.

Muslims should not do that – do not indulge in generalization. This is like zulm. Allah does not say these blanket statements 42. The Quran usually says – “a party of them.” We should say, some people, some issues and avoid blank, general statements 43. They recite the book – they should know better Ayah 114-115: 44. Ayah 114: who does more zulm? Zulm is to short-change – put something in its wrongful place. Money has gone in wrong location. Stealing

food, giving you extra food if you know the waiter, if the owner does it – it’s different. Have balance 45. Tornadoes – a killer storm happens when there is an imbalance in the atmosphere. It stops when the balance is restored. This is the

Meteorologist’s definition. Cool definition 46. Knowledge makes you happy – frowning means you have not understood something – ignorance. Can see it in the face of students 47. You cannot do shirk with the names of Allah. The god, the god, the god – this is not dhikr. Not a nayma of Allah. Hu, huwa, huwa – this is not

a name of Allah. Huwa means he – it is not a name 48. Excess of tyranny is to block people from remembering the names of Allah. They will be humiliated in this dunya and in the hereafter. Ajjar is

for this world and the hereafter. Honor will be here as well. For a fundraiser – give Allah cash – and He will give you credit. In the Hereafter will get $100,000 if you give $10,000 cash. But people instead mock and say: I’ll get it after I’m dead? No, thanks, I’ll not give it

49. What do you say instead? a. 1) You will get happiness when you donate. Happiness is everything everyone is looking for. Giving gives you happiness b. 2) Gives protection from harm – acts as sadaqah. Brother did not donate – car got towed had to pay the money for towing. The

money left him anyway c. 3) Bless your remaining wealth – compounded – it is purified and blessed – and goes further. Someone who makes $50,000 may

always in need. Someone who makes $17,000 may be just fine, perhaps because he gives sadaqah 50. Ayah 115: Allah is wherever you turn Ayah 116-117: 51. Ayah 116: Jews and Christians and atheists all said this. Polytheists said angels were daughters of Allah. The Bible says god had marital

relations and then child. He is above all this 52. Everything surrenders to Allah. Is Jesus god? Why does he sleep? Why does he bleed? Went to a tree to that he thought had fruit and there

wasn’t any fruit. A god would know that 53. They say Isa and his mother are gods. They both used to eat food. Anybody that eats food – cannot be god. It means that they need

provisions, need to be sustained – and that they need to expel the food. How can that be a god? 54. Ayah 117: Al bidiya: He is the originator of everything. If we draw an alien – we draw what we have seen – we are not originating anything.

We are not creators 55. The statement is kunn. Not kunn fuh ya koon. Kunn. Be. Fay a koon – means “and it will be . It is. Be. And it is. Kunn fa ya koon is not a

statement Ayah 118-119: 56. Ayah 118: Those who don’t know – the ignorant. If only Allah will speak to us we will believe, or a sign or Ayah comes to us, we will believe.

The Ayah already came. All these Ayahs have come. You can’t really have a conversation with an ignorant person. The people that came before said the same thing

57. Daawah point– their hearts are the same. If you listed all their arguments – can’t be more than 10 types of arguments. Put yourself in the driver’s seat. List these arguments they have – master them – and you can help so many people!

-25-

58. In psychology – people see things they want to see. Ayah came – don’t want to see it. They tell themselves – oh its not there. Their body and mind are confused. A believer made the intention to look for it – and he will find it. Make sincere intention to see the Ayahs of Allah – and you will see them everywhere – you will be increased in Imaan and taqwa. Make the intention and dua

59. Ayah 119: Basheer – good tidings Nadeer – warnings. Have to give lectures on both fear topics and mercy topics. What is waiting for you in the hereafter? Do halaqaa of that. These are too rare. Why? Give more glad tidings along with the warnings. When has someone told them that they will go to the hell-fire? We don’t coz it’s not politically correct

60. I am warning you of a fire that is right in front of you – these were the first daawah words 61. Daawah is in our control – flipping their hearts is not in out control 62. What if Omar ra was in your university? What would you do? He would be a leader 63. Creative thought – think if a companion was living amongst you. Think! Ayah 120-123: 64. Ayah 120: This Ayah generalizes. All Jews and Christians. They will never approve of you until we follow them. It’s a goal you will never

achieve. Become a Christian – and only then will they be happy with you. As a Muslim – they will never be pleased with you. Until you follow their millah – or ahwaa – their desires. They have jealousy

65. What is our response? The guidance of Allah is the true guidance. If we follow their desires, we will have lost our connection with Allah 66. How do you know Muhammad saaw was the last messenger? How do you know the Quran is truth? We are on shaky ground. How do you

know Bukhari is authentic? Need to build the foundation first 67. Do review of Ayah and course material in halaqaa. After exam – prepare for next class. Always keep building the foundations 68. Ayah 121: True recitation, haqq tilawaa, entails three things

a. 1) tilawaa lafdh – care for the proper recitation of the Quran, tajweed etc, reward for trying is also included b. 2) tilawaa ma’na seeking out the understanding of the Quran, the meanings c. 3) tilawaa hukm – to implement what they’ve learned from the Quran

69. They are the only ones who truly believe in it. Belief has actions based on it. Belief has action and physical presence 70. Ayah 122: Remember my blessings upon you. Allah has told them many times. These are not typical themes we get in Islamic lectures.

Non-Muslims getting Ayah – it will shake them – they’ve never seen anything like it 71. Ayah 123: Fear the day – no one can get intercession

Ayah124-131 Abraham: The Father of Prophets Ayah 124: 1. Ayah 124: Where does this all originate? We are Millat-e-Ibrahim. He was not a Jew or Christian. And we follow his religion 2. In Medina University, the hardest class was the Arabic grammar class. Shaikh Al-Shareef was asked Would you be able to do a lecture for this

U.S. group? And he had the hardest grammar exam the next day. He asked Allah to help him with his exam, if he did the lecture. He got highest grade in class

3. Hajj2008.com have hajj students who help as well 4. Hajj prep site: hajjcoach.com how to prepare properly for hajj 5. And remember when Allah swt tested Ibraheem. Ibraheem’s test was, thrown into fire, ruler wanted to be with his wife and Namrud was

paralyzed, his son was asked to be sacrificed/ slaughter, asked to leave his wife and son in the desert 6. He fulfilled the tests. The tests are special to us. Allah chooses us for these tests – that give us special status 7. Allah chose you to get the extra ajar – congratulations – you didn’t get your room; you didn’t get your baggage at Hajj, congratulations because

you have been chosen for the test, for the special status 8. Because of this test – I will make you a leader for the people. Leader for mankind – Jews, Christians and Muslims all revere him. 9. You have to be tested; you have to pass, and only then will you be rewarded. We cannot be a shaheed by just sleeping in bed – we have to

fight and die in battle 10. He prayed make my children imam as well. My promise does not continue on to transgressors – it’s with their own actions that they will get the

leadership Ayah 125: 11. Ayah 125: Allah is teaching us the paths. Allah swt says: And remember when you made the kaabah. Mathabaa is a place of return – place of

resort and of peace and security 12. Maqaam-e-ibrahim, inside this dome are the footprints of Ibraheem as. We don’t worship the kaabah. That is shirk 13. We have permission to touch the black stone and kiss the corner before it. The base of the kaabah is triangular for own good – coz people try

to kiss the kaabah. But Muslims don’t know these things. You’re worshipping the lord of the kaabah – not the kaabah 14. Ibraheem used to step back – and fix the kaabah. It’s a symbol of perfecting one’s Ibaadaa to Allah. We follow Ibraheem in perfecting our

worship. We made a covenant with Ibraheem and Ishmael. There’s nothing else to do in Makkah except worship, as much rukuh and sujood, umrah, tawaaf, lots of nafl prayer as we can do

15. Kaabah has types of Ibaadaa that can’t be done anywhere else. Can’t do sa’ee, tawaaf, kissing the black stone, for hajj stoning shaitan, Arafat. These are exclusive to the kaabah and to Makkah

Ayah 126-127:

-26-

16. Ayah 126: teaching us the dua of Ibraheem. Allah loved this dua so much – that he recorded this for us in the Quran to learn and recite. Make this balad, this land, safe, ammunnaa, provision and fruits. Only give food to the righteous people – this is the addab of Allah from the previous Ayah as Allah said I will make leaders only from the believers

17. However, Allah said I will still provide for them in this world, but not in the hereafter 18. Ayah 127: And remember when together they built the foundation of the kaabah 19. When they are doing these good deeds, O our lord accept this from us. With all their tests, rabbana taqabbal minna – please accept our good

work. Humble that we get this opportunity for ajjar 20. Never forget to make dua for acceptance, whenever we do good deeds Ayah 128- 129: 21. Ayah 128: These are all duas for us. We usually make dua for materialistic things. But also ask for the deen and the hereafter – make me a

good Muslim, give me good character, and make from our children good Muslims. If they die as Muslims – they are successful – no matter what they did. If they die as kufaar – no matter what they achieved here is useless, even if they got the Nobel Prize

22. Ummat Muhammad is the nation that submits to Allah. Ibraheem is looking to the future – he makes dua for upcoming generations. They are looking into the future until the Day of Judgment. Look at the size of this goal. It is huge. This should be the size of our goal

23. Manasik are the rituals of hajj – teach us the proper way to do these. Forgive us and give us the tawfeeq to repent to you 24. Allah did tawbah upon them so that they would do tawbah. Means he gives us the tawfeeq so that we can do tawbah 25. Even the desire to want to repent is guidance from Allah – He sends this desire to us 26. Ayah 129: Send amongst them a prophet. He’s making dua for us. He will recite your Ayat, teach him the book, al hukm is the sunnah, purify

him, his soul, he’s praying for life for the brain, heart and soul Ayah 130-131: 27. Ayah 130: You would only turn away if you were a fool. Foolishness. If you want success, follow the leaders. If you want failure – those are

the ones who do not follow the prophets 28. Al Aleem is the most frequently used names. Afalaa taaqiloon. Recurring theme of intelligence and being foolish. We are not supposed to be

feeble-minded or foolish. Following the path of Ibraheem is only way to success 29. Success is not about high marks in school. What about the hereafter? Sometimes the dropouts are the billionaires and they hire all the nerds.

Scores are not an indicator of success 30. Ayah 131: Submit. Ibraheem did not say – to what? Why? How much? He just said – I have submitted 31. That type of response, of immediate and unquestioned submission – who else did this? There are others like him – Firaun’s magicians who

accepted Allah and Musa, Abu Bakr 32. When doing daawah today – do not expect this kind of response. Do not expect them to be like Abu Bakr 33. And we cannot say I have given up hope. How many years have you given daawah to that person before you give up? Nuh gave daawah for

900 years

Ayah 132-141 – the Legacy of Yaqoob: Ayah 132-133: 1. Ayah 132: Ibrahim advised his children of this and their children – to submit to Allah. Yaqoob also said this to his children. Usually final words

of child – the legacy – indeed Allah has chosen Islam for you as a way life. Don’t die in any state except that of submission. We wish the same for our children

2. Ayah 133: When Yaqoob was nearing death, he said Bannihee – o my children. Full of love and respect – it’s like baitee or binthe – o my daughter. He is asking them on his deathbed – what will you worship when I die. He is not putting words in their mouth

3. Even in psychology – make them say it for their ownership. They said – we will worship one lord, and we are amongst the one who submitted 4. The Bible says a prophet married 1000 women, wrestled with god etc. The Quran would never say that. One brother who had converted was

giving daawah to his non-Muslim mother and read an Ayah from the Bible but said to her that it was from the Quran. She got really mad. Then he told her the Quran would never say something like that

Ayah 134-135: 5. Ayah 134: Bani Israel is perished –they’ve passed away. We are responsible for ourselves. You will not be asked what did Bani Israel do.

You’re not going to be on the jury panel to decide this. Just worry about am I doing, what I’m responsible for doing 6. We focus on other people – just focus on you. Do not do backbiting, etc. If you had an alter ego – what would you say about you? Turn the

mirror on you. The whole community can change if we focus on us 7. Some Ayahs were addressed to the Jews. It’s not just for condemning Jews – but to give guidance to us and to Jews – there is always an exit

– so long as you’re still breathing. After death, there is no exit 8. Ayah 135: Be Jewish/ Christian and you’ll be guided. What is the response? Right there in the Ayah. Say: I’d rather be of the followers of

Abraham, and we do not believe in more than one god 9. The people who are closest to the prophets, such as Isa and Musa, are the ones who follow him Ayah 136-137: 10. Ayah 136: We believe in all that was revealed. We do not distinguish between any of them. Our belief in all of them is the same. Qul o azmi

meenurr rassull– the Mighty Five, they had extraordinary determination, strong will, were the highest of the prophets – the most strong willed –

-27-

a. Nuh, b. Ibraheem c. Musa d. Isa e. Muhammad

11. Ayah 137: If they don’t die in a state of Islam – how do we know that they will go to the hell fire? This Ayah tells us. If they turn their backs – they will be in opposition (shiqaaq). They will not leave you alone. The battle was against the Christians in Jerusalem – then later the Jews. Allah is enough as a protector for all these battles that will take place

Ayah 138-141: 12. Ayah 138: Sighathalla – dye. It shows on their bodies, face, how they behave – it shows externally. You can see in a hafiz’s face – if they

have the Quran memorized. They have a noor. “Sibghaa,” that Allah blesses us with, as believers 13. Ayah 139: Are you trying to argue with us? Converts have parents that are very aggressive in keeping children away from religion. If they

became Buddhist etc – response would be different 14. Why do they have such violent reactions when their child decides to become Muslim instead of Buddhist? 15. Ayah 140: We should ask this question to Allah. Who knows better than Allah? Byzantine armies – he knew the prophet to be true. He

heard the Quran and knew it was true. Nijaashah became Muslim 16. Hercules did not become Muslim – not because he thought it was false, but because he did not want to leave his leadership. He did zulm by

hiding it from his people 17. The Jews were in medina – not Makkah because they knew the prophet would come there. That’s why they were settled there 18. Signs of prophet hood:

a. 1) He doesn’t accept charity b. 2) He will accept gifts c. 3) seal of prophet hood on his back – shape of egg on his shoulder blades

19. Salman ra tested prophet saaw on these signs. Salman had traveled through much of the world looking for the prophet saaw and he started crying and crying – he had been looking for him for such a long time

20. Christians and Jews had this knowledge, that the prophet would come – that’s why Salman knew of the prophet. Salman – was he an ansar or muhajireen? One of life’s sweet mysteries. Salman was over 30 years old – lived until after Ali ra

21. Ayah 141 – asked about our deeds alone Final General Class Questions

1. Shirk: praying to dead people, showing off, trying to make laws not of Allah’s – Kufr and shirk. Follow Canadian law if it agrees with Allah’s law 2. Ego and self-respect. Arrogance is to reject the truth, and to mock others. That is the definition of being arrogant. Looking good, or having a

nice car is not arrogance. Allah is beautiful and loves beauty 3. Believers are not entering jannah after they die – you will enter after the Day of Judgment. They will sleep until the Day of Judgment – but they

will have a window to jannah 4. Why do people not follow the truth – even though they know it’s the truth? Someone doesn’t know, others know and don’t follow. Lesson for us 5. Tradition of putting seals on letter was before prophets time 6. Hijaab has no difference of opinion. Covering face has difference of opinion. Proof is in Surah Nisa 7. To stop addiction – look at your intentions. For pornography, get married or start fasting. For smoking, we do it to relax/ socialize. Seek halal

ways of relaxing, try eating watermelon. Taking deep breaths in smoking is relaxing. Have a breath break – an oxygen spa, take deep breaths 8. Workplace: Extra kind treatment of colleagues – start paying for people’s lunches. It’s very western to pay separately. That’s daawah – they

see that you’re different from others. Go on the al Maghrib forum – share ideas. Cultural day at work – every week someone presents about his or her culture. All Muslims present – Senegalese, Pakistani, and Arab Indian – but all are Muslim. Have special extra-curricular projects at work. Building clean-up day, special projects that benefit everybody – can also speak about Islam through these activities. Be involved. Find creative ways of doing daawah

9. Bani Israel were not destroyed like thamood or aad. Bani Israel is the people of the past – they were best nation of that time. Ummat Muhammad are best nation now – so it cannot be Jew of present

10. Nothing wrong with nice car or home. We don’t know about their background, they could be billionaires living just like millionaires. Also, Allah is not asking us to judge them. Look at other haram acts – alcohol, zina. Everything that Allah rises – Allah will bring back down

11. How to be patient? Be familiar with this technique. Every time they bug me – next time I will be 10% more patient 12. Tawbah for not knowing this – that cut off relations for more than three days. Tawbah for doing it. Immediately change the situation, call them,

say sorry – for whatever you did. If they accept or not is besides the point 13. Isthikhara - The divine GPS – webcast – ilmcast.com – Al-Maghrib has videos on it 14. Lord of the easts and the wests, lord of the east and west, lord of the two easts and two wests. Quran mentions all of these. Means Allah is

everywhere and Allah owns everything 15. Self-confidence comes from knowing what you want first. For example, I want self-confidence to wear hijaab everyday and not care about

others. So that’s your destination. Then determine where you are. How much do I care about people – and how much do I care about Allah? When you know – then take some steps. Then learn from others on how they’re doing it

16. How much television is acceptable? None. Get rid of the TV set. Nothing is really acceptable. If you have elderly people in the house, be merciful to them, let them have a TV – but you must not get sucked in
