So, When are we going to have Church Again!

Church is not the building, Church is the

people! So in that regard, we have been having

church all along! The office has been open, our

preschool has been open on a limited basis, and

some activities have continued, just differently.

    (Continued on Page 2)

  • So when are we going to have church again?

    (Continued from page 1)

It is true that we have not been able to meet

in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings but the worship

team and Mondo have been preparing and record-

ing a worship service each week. All of these services

can be watched on our You Tube Channel: https://

    www.youtube.com/user/TahoeChurch.

We all need to thank Bob Daly, Mondo, the

praise team, and audio-visual team for their efforts in

    making this happen

Mondo has been diligent in sending out e-mail

updates, and he and the Elders have put together

several “Fireside Chats” for you to listen to.

The Women’s and men’s Bible studies have

been meeting on Zoom. Please contact Kathy Pav-

ich or Mondo if you would like to join in. We will in-

form everyone when regular meetings are able to

    resume.

Our “Live Groups” have stopped meeting in

homes but they are staying in contact vis e-mails and

other means. Your group leaders will contact you

when you are able to meet in homes again.

The Knifty knitters have not been meeting to-

gether but they are still knitting and sending out a lot

of hats to those who need them!

So as you can see, church continues in spite

    of the Coronavirus!

So when are we going to have church in the

    sanctuary again?

We still do not know. Our safety team is on

top of the latest news from the Governor's office and

will let us know when things change. For now, we are

still not allowed to have gatherings of more than 10

    people.

Please contact the church office if you have

    any questions.

Remember the promise made in Romans 8:28

“And we know that in all things God works for the

good of those who love him, who have been called

    according to his purpose.”

    Ted Beverage, Office Administrator.

Women’s Bible Study is Meeting Through Zoom The ladies Thursday Morning study

group has not been meeting in

fellowship Hall but they have been meeting thanks to

the technology of Zoom. If you would like to join in,

please contact Louisa Boone who set it up. She can

    be reached at (530) 208-8391.

They are continuing the study “Acts,” by Eve-

ry woman’s Grace. This is a study from John MacAr-

thur’s Grace church. We will let you know when they

start meeting in Fellowship Hall again.

Please contact Kathy Pavich for more information.

Small Church. Big Blessings. God doesn't need a lot to accomplish plenty. Just ask

the members of Grace Baptist Church in Wild Peach,

Texas. In just the last few months, the 51-member congrega-

tion packed over 11,000 Operation Christmas Child

shoeboxes!! Incredibly, this big-hearted church also

collected more than enough funds to cover pro-

cessing, shipping, and Gospel materials for each and

every box. Since 2014, this amazing church has packed over

37,000 shoeboxes. In this new year, the congregation

is praying that God will enable them to fill 12,500 gift-

    filled boxes. Wow!

“Our confidence is not in ourselves, but in the Lord,”

Pastor Mark Brumbelow and his wife Cherry are quick

to point out. “God knows what He wants to do

through you. He will make it happen.”

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there

anything too hard for Me?” Jeremiah 32:27

If they can pack a lot of boxes, so can we!

  • Lead us not into Temptation By Jeff Van Hatten

    Temptation / Testing

Matthew 6:13 – “Do not lead us into temptation.”

Luke 11:4 – “Do not lead us into temptation.”

The word translated temptation is the Greek word

peirasmos [πειρασμός G3986] which means: a put-

ting to proof or adversity. The most common transla-

tion of Matthew’s and Luke’s scriptures is translated

“into temptation” by at least nine Bibles. I like the

Complete Jewish Bible which translates it this way:

“into a time of hard testing”, or the New Revised

Standard which translates it as: “to the time of trial”.

The footnotes of the NET, which Mondo prefers, also

agrees that it may be translated: “into a time of test-

ing.” All are valid translations of the Greek word pei-

    rasmos.

Many consider this part of the prayer to be only a

request to be kept from sin, but it is more accurately

a request to be kept from a time of testing or trial.

This is succinctly stated in other scriptures, including

Matthew 26:41, Mark 14:38 and Luke 22:40: “Pray that

you won’t be put to the test.” The question, then to

ask, is: “When is the time of temptation, testing, or

trial?” and scripture answers this quite well – “For that

day will come like a snare on all those who dwell on

the surface of all the earth. Therefore be watchful all

the time, praying that you may be counted worthy

to escape all these things that will happen, and to

stand before the Son of Man” – Luke 21:35-36. When

that day comes, Yahweh promises: “I will keep you

from the time of trial coming upon the whole world

to put the people living on earth to the test” – Reve-

    lation 3:10.

    Evil / Evil One

Matthew 6:13 – “Keep us safe from evil.”

Again, “keep us safe from evil” is a common transla-

tion of Matthew’s and Luke’s scriptures, translated

this way by several Bibles. There are many more

translations, however, that translate it more accu-

rately this way: “Keep us safe from the Evil One. All of

these are valid translations of the Greek word

poneros [πονηρός G4190]. Interesting to note that the

newest translation of the KJV also now translates it Evil

One! The word poneros, most generally translated

evil, can be a specific and personified reference

to the devil, Satan, as it is in this verse where it is writ-

ten as tou poneros. Tou poneros is used the same

    way in Matthew 5:39.

    Conclusions

Luke 21:36 –“Pray that you will have the strength to

escape all the things that will happen and to stand in

the presence of the Son of Man.”

2 Timothy 4:18 – “The Lord will rescue me from every

evil attack and bring me safely into his heavenly

    Kingdom.”

The Lord’s Prayer is definitely a prayer asking Yah-

weh / Yeshua to keep a person from a Time Of Trial

that keeps that person safe from the Evil One. While

this can be applied to daily occurrences, it most defi-

nitely can and should be seen as an urgent request

to be kept from the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, the Trib-

ulation Period, which Yahweh promises to do

    (Revelation 3:10).

Matthew 24:42 – “So stay alert, because you don’t

know on what day your Lord will come.”

Until that time, we are to stay alert, anxiously awaiting

his appearing. This warning is repeated many times in

    Matthew 24:42; Matthew 25:13; Mark 13:33; Luke

    12:40; and 1 Thessalonians 5:6.

PRAYING THE PROMISES: PLEADING WITH GOD This resource, adapted from the

book Praying on God’s Promises by Tom Yeakley,

gives insight on how to approach prayer on God’s

promises and verses from scripture to pray over.

Be strong and courageous. In times of distress turn to

God in prayer and ask Him to fulfill His promises to His

    people.

Editors Note: I thought this article was appropriate

Since we are in a time of distress.

ATTITUDE OF HUMILITY AND EXPECTANCY: We come

with a twofold attitude of both abject humility and

courageous expectancy. We don’t dictate to God,

even when claiming His promises. But we do come

    boldly, reverentially, before His throne.

    (Continued on page 4)

  • (Praying the Promises Continued)

    ACKNOWLEDGE AND CONFESS SIN.

    We come before God acknowledg-

ing our sinfulness and confessing our

sins as the Holy Spirit brings them to

    remembrance. We must not deceive

ourselves into thinking that the Lord will honor our re-

quests if we harbor unconfessed sin in our lives or if

we are living in a condition of disobedience to His

    revealed will in the Bible.

BRING SPECIFIC CONCERNS AND DETAILS TO GOD. It

is not that the omniscient Lord needs more infor-

mation; rather, in doing this, our thoughts clarify, and

the Lord can help us better understand and gain

    perspective on our current situation.

FOCUS ON GOD’S CHARACTER. It is good to remind

the Lord of certain related character qualities, not

only pleading that He act in keeping with His charac-

ter, but also asking Him to build these into our lives

during this testing of our faith.

BASE OUR REQUESTS ON THE PROMISES IN GOD’S

WORD. Though we do make specific requests, we

again must yield to the Lord the right to answer in His

way and in His time. He alone can see all things; He

knows what circumstances and timing are best for

us. Having a demanding spirit regarding either the

means or the time of God’s answer is a sign of spiritu-

    al immaturity.

PROMISES TO DEPEND ON FROM GOD’S WORD

REGARDING HIS LOVE AND CARE FOR YOU.

PSALM 103:17 But from everlasting to everlasting the

Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his right-

    eousness with their children’s children.

NAHUM 1:7 The Lord is good, a refuge in times of

trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.

MATTHEW 6:31‑33 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall

we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things,

and your heavenly Father knows that you need

them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,

and all these things will be given to you as well.

MATTHEW 10:29‑31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground

outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of

your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you

are worth more than many sparrows.

JOHN 14:21 Whoever has my commands and keeps

them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me

will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them

    and show myself to them.

Also: John 15:9, 10 As the Father has loved me, so

have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you oey

my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I

have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain ib

    His love.

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own son, but

gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with

him, graciously give us all things?

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because He

    cares for you.

Samaritan’s Purse Field Hospital Opens in Central Park

Our Doctors and Nurses Are Working Around the

    Clock to Save Lives

I never thought we'd be setting up a field hospital in

the heart of New York City. But today we opened our

Emergency Field Hospital in Central Park to help save

lives from the deadly outbreak of COVID‑19. New York has become the epicenter of the pandem-

ic in the U.S. Hospitals are overwhelmed with the sick

and dying. Tens of thousands in the city are now in-

fected and more than 1,000 people have died.

Dozens of our highly skilled and compassionate doc-

tors, nurses, and other medical personnel are working

around the clock to treat and comfort suffering vic-

tims. Our 14‑tent, 68‑bed facility—raised in Central Park's East Meadow—is treating COVID‑19 patients coming from our partner in the city, Mount Sinai

Health System. (Continued on page 7)

  • Missionary News & Prayer

    by Carol Borsos

    For all our missionaries and

    workers throughout the world;

    - Pray believers stay strong and

    continue to grow spiritually.

    - Pray they encourage one another and even with

social distancing are telling others there is hope in the

    Lord, Jesus Christ!

    - Pray for health and encouragement during this

    stressful and sometimes lonely time.

Also, pray for our LORD provides for their financial

needs and physical needs during this time. People all

over the world, including our brothers and sisters in

Christ, are starving and without food.

Mirco & Nada Andreev, Skopje, Macedonia

    Missions to the Balkins

Mirco greets us in the name of the Risen Jesus!

The joy of all of us is really big because we know that

God is alive. And we know in whom we can put our

hope! Their Orthodox Easter was April 19th and their

message went out through social network. For the

holiday Friday-Tuesday, they were in full isolation.

Mirco and his team were surprised how many people

tuned in. Pray many hearts were opened to the Gos-

pel and even more to the LORD. Many are calling,

asking and the team stays in contact via cell phone.

    Activities are limited.

    - Pray for the political and bad economic situation in

the country of Macedonia and surrounding Balkin

    countries.

    - Mirco and his team pray for our good health and to

    stay in Strong Spirit.

The Picture below is the Balkin Office. I don't know all

the names, but Mirco is sitting at the desk behind the

    Bible.

    Central Asian Family

The family was without food for a time but

now are joyfully able to go out into their neighbor-

hood and share food with others who have very little.

    - Pray monies will be available to continue with food

distribution and opportunities to share the Good

    News of Jesus.

    - Pray they can give out Bibles.

    - Pray God changes hearts and makes evident who

    His elect are.

    - Pray for those in the orphanages who are isolated

to not lose hope knowing that God is greater than

    this virus.

    - Pray J & H know God’s guidance and wisdom, how

they can serve Him where they are.

No word about the sandwich shop. God’s will

    in this matter for sure.

    Tim & Susan Driscoll, Japan

Continued prayers for their ministry and ways

to interact with Japanese people who do not have

    the hope of Jesus.

    - Pray for ways to encourage those they lead and

    plans which are on hold.

    - Pray for Christian churches throughout Japan as

they encourage their church families; stay strong in

the LORD and the power of His Might!

    - Continue praying God’s leading for the uncertain

plans of their kids, for Tim and Susan to see them, and

for the birth of their second grandchild in July.

    Life Choices Pregnancy Clinic

    North Carson, Nevada

    - Praise God that they were able to continue to serve

women and families in our community throughout

the Virus shutdown with modifications for the safety

    of staff and clients.

    - Pray for those who come for pregnancy testing, ul-

tra sounds, and information to know the love and

compassion from the workers in the strength of the

    Holy Spirit.

    - Pray God enlightens the eyes, hearts, and minds of

those who test positive to the gravity of their decision.

Help them to see clearly the sanctity of life of their

    precious unborn.

    Pastor W., Pakistan

    There has been a year-long

    crackdown against Christian activity

    and it has been intensifying.

Pray for the 50, or so, MBB’s (Muslim Born Believers)

who are actively engaged in evangelism among

Muslims. They are at risk daily for their lives and possi-

ble imprisonment. They are on fire for the Gospel; to

see those who are living in darkness to see the hope

    and light of salvation.

One woman, who attended the conference

we mentioned last month, only came for one day.

She was excited to share with her family. At home

her family beat her and she is now being kept in

chains. Please pray that her spirit would be unbound

    by God!

Audio and traditional print Bibles have been

delivered in several languages across 5 countries. In

one instance a single Bible opened the hearts of 70

people freshly introduced to the Gospel.

Pray for pastor W. and how he can visit, en-

courage, and minister with believers during the virus

outbreak. No word on how widespread it is in his ar-

    ea of Pakistan.

Like many areas of the world food shortages

and price hikes have also hit FMI's partners hard

in Pakistan and other countries. With Ramadan in full

swing, Muslims have emptied shelves of most mar-

kets and there has been a price hike of 20-25% in

most places. Some food banks have food but in

places like Pakistan they are telling Christians that if

they want food they must convert to Islam first.

Lockdowns and self-isolation are in place through

    late May.

Pray God meets the needs of our Christian brethren!

    Thank you.

Coming Together for a Tahoe Strong Response to COVID-19

    Chris Kiser From Barton Foundation

The outpouring of support the Lake Tahoe communi-

ty has shown for one another is inspiring. When the

Barton Foundation launched the COVID-19 Response

Fund to help local residents impacted by the coro-

navirus outbreak, generous donations from commu-

nity members have provided financial assistance to

hundreds of local families, first responders, and front-

    line healthcare workers to-date.

The COVID-19 Response Fund provides flexible and

discretionary resources for community members fac-

ing financial hardship from impacts of the corona-

virus, such as food delivery; support for front-line

healthcare workers and first responders facing finan-

cial pressures; assistance for seniors and other vulner-

able home-isolating patient populations; and re-

sources to offer shelter and hygiene products for

    those in need.

During these challenging times, a common request

from grant applicants is the need for food. The Bar-

ton Foundation and its Board of Trustees are taking

an additional step to help address food insecurity in

our community; and have organized a food drive to

help Christmas Cheer replenish their food supply.

Non-perishable food items may be dropped off at

the Foundation’s collection site, located at 2092

    Lake Tahoe Blvd., between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.,

Monday through Friday. The Barton Foundation will

deliver the donated food items to Christmas Cheer

who will then distribute them to community members

    in need.

    Greeters Training The safety training

    meeting for all church

    greeters on Sunday March

    22, was canceled but will

be rescheduled. Keep an eye out for the new date!

Contact Kathy Pavich for more information.

Tahoe Community Church looses a Friend

Wilson Scarbrough, a regular attender at Tahoe

Community Church, passed away on March 21st.

He was 85. Wilson and his wife Jo Ann lived in lake

Tahoe for a number of years before moving to Las

Vegas where he died. Due to the current pandem-

ic, memorial services will be scheduled for a later

date. Please pray for Jo Ann during her time of loss.

    Women’s Fellowship Activities

All of the women’s Fellowship Activities are currently

    We want every-

    one who comes

    into our tents to

    know that God

    loves them and

    has not forgot-

    ten them. We

    are praying with

    patients and

pointing them to the hope found only in Jesus Christ.

These really are desperate times. We've never seen

anything like this before. Our teams on the ground in

New York and Italy need your prayers. Healthcare

workers around the world do too as they work on the

front lines battling this horrible disease. “God is our

refuge and strength, a very present help in trou-

link to an interview about it on the Preschool page

of the Tahoe Community Church website. (You

can also find it on our facebook page.) Right now

we have eight families (10 children) receiving es-

sential care, with two teachers working steadfastly

on site and the rest working steadfastly behind the

    scenes.

We know many of you are looking for ways

to keep busy and the Preschool is very happy to

help. There are a multitude of maintenance, re-

pair, craft and admin projects that can be done

from home or at Preschool during times we are not

here or we are out of the classroom. Thank you to

Carol Borsos for her work with Teacher Theresa mak-

ing new curtains for the Lambs classroom

(Discovery Zone). They are lovely!!! Thank you to

Leonard O’Malley for fixing our Dramatic Playroom

Closet in the Sheep Room (Kids Zone). The Sheep

Teachers are so excited to get back and use their

room again!!! (Whenever that day comes.) Thank

you to Ted Beverage and your small (appropriately

distanced) crew for getting our Shade Sails up and

for redistributing our playground wood chips for

    safety!!!

We love our warm weather and we have

been spending a lot of time outside playing and

painting. If you drive by the Church be sure to no-

tice our artwork displayed on the playground fenc-

es. Our May theme is Laughter and our Bible Verse

for the month in honor of Mothers Day is Proverbs

31:25 “She is clothed in strength and dignity, she

can laugh at the days to come!” Our Bible stories

are about the New Testament Church from Acts to

    Revelation.

Please keep our Teachers, our Children, and

our Families in prayer. We are living by faith as we

have been significantly impacted by economic

challenges, but we are looking to God for guid-

    ance, direction, and providence.

Stay safe and healthy, Sarah Tran
