Superworm - Storytime

I would love to see your work! Why not take a photo and send it

to [email protected]

Miss Newton

Is your child able to retell the story? You may like to make your

own puppets to retell the story with.

If you have a copy of the story

‘Superworm’, please read it to your

child. If not, you can watch a video

of it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jnk3XApKBg

Can you complete the minibeast patterns?

Are you able to make your very own minibeast patterns?

Can you make your own mini beast patterns?

Take this further by using different sizes of the same minibeasts! For example, length or size of superworms!

Take a walk around a garden, park, or outside area. What

minibeast can you find? Try looking under plant pots or stones,

looking on leaves or bushes or around flowers. You could draw a

picture or take a photo of any minibeast you find!

Superworm - Writing

Are you able to write about

your favourite part of the

story?

You can draw a picture to go

with it.

Design a superhero costume for

Superworm to wear!

Look at pictures of superheroes from comic books and the internet. Make a list of the different items that they wear to help.

Maths – Counting with Superworm!

How many skips can you do in 1 minute?

Can a grown up time you? Check your counting!

How else can you move your body like Superworm.

Can you hula hoop for 1 minute?

Can you use your body as a swing – or swing your arms?

Can you count 20 of one move?

Rain Dancing

Worms come to the surface

when they hear the rain on

the ground. Sometimes noises

convince them it is raining and

to come up. Can you make up

your own rain dance to make

the worms appear?

I would love to see your work! Why not take a photo and send it

to [email protected]

Miss Newton

Some cultures do dances to make it rain as well! You can look these up on the

internet to get some ideas. Could you put your dance to music? Or use your

favourite tune? Think about noisy moves like rain to get those worms to show

themselves!

Superworm – Poems

Can you read, learn and create actions for the ‘I Love Worms’

poem?

I love worms. I put them in my palm,

Fat ones, thin ones, I find them at the farm.

Long ones, short ones, sliding over toes,

Hold them gently in your hand, everybody knows.

Maths – Worm Number lines

Today’s task is linked to the story ‘I

can only draw worms’. If you would

like to listen to the author Will

Mabbit read it, here is the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi1Wpbz6zGk

We can see the worms he draws look

a bit like our number lines at school!

Draw your worms but start at

different numbers!

Can you count your worms backwards?

Or create number lines in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s?

Maths – Yucky Shopping! How much?

Using the tins you created as part of your Superworm

exercise, price up the tins and make a yucky shopping list! Go

shopping with a budget! How much is a tin of spiders? How

much would 3 tins be? Are caterpillars expensive? How much?

Look at the money in your piggy bank, what could you buy with

your pennies?

Super Shop!

Create your own yucky

supermarket by labelling tins

of mini beasts! Who will be

in yours and how many?

Encourage your child to draw pictures

of some creatures in the book. They

could use collage materials or

crumpled tissue paper to create

textured wings. Ask your child to

paint a long piece of string pink, to

create a Superworm fishing rod.

Maths – Measuring Worms

Cook some spaghetti until almost done and then

rinse under cold water. You can add food

colouring to make them any colour you want.

You now have ready made worms to cut. (You can

use string, dough or wool if you don’t have

spaghetti.)

Get together your own collection of worms and

see if you can cut them to different lengths. Talk

about the lengths and even measure them by

using cubes.

Can you order them in length? What is your

longest worm as long as in your house? What is

your shortest worm as long as?

.

Singing time!

Learn worm at the bottom

of the garden song!

tch?v=s5NEdQ904jY

Are you able to perform it

to loved ones?

Can you make your own story about a different

animal that becomes a superhero?

Think about their superhero name, their

superpowers (what are they good at), their

weaknesses (things they would like to get better at)

and ways that they are going to change the world

(their hopes and dreams for the future).
