FREE TRANSFER IN GUAYAQUIL
Airport to the hotel, if you arrive between NOVEMBER 7 to 11th
DAY 0 - Arrival in Guayaquil and transfer to the hotel.
Guests can relax on arrival, or use the free shuttle service to the Convention Center.
Alternatively, you can visit the Ecuagenera nursery just outside Guayaquil. Here Cattleya,
Dendrobium, Vanda and much more are cultivated. Buses run every 2 hours.
DAY 1 - GUAYAQUIL to GUALACEO: To start, we will drive through the Cajas National Park across
the Andes. Before the mountains rise, you can taste the most delicious fresh fruit on the
roadside. Afterwards it goes up to Tres Cruces at about 4,000m altitude. It is a fascinating ride,
the ever-changing vegetation, the grandiose view, it is "sitting on top of the world". By the way,
there are also a lot of orchids that grow hidden along the road: Epidendrum, Oncidium, Stelis
and Masdevallia are easily accessible and discover at your locations
Day 2 – GUALACEO: Today we stay in Gualaceo. You can use the day to acclimatize, to explore
the ecosystem of the ecosystem, with its thousands of different orchids. It is probably the largest
collection of Andean orchids in the world. Here you can see your program for preserving the
orchids with your own eyes. After lunch, continue to Chordeleg, the Ecuadorian city of silver. In
many shops you can admire the art of craftsmanship, and buy cheap souvenirs for those who
are at home or for themselves. If you want to stay in the nursery, you can stay here too.
DAY 3 – GUALACEO: Only on POST WOC Tour: Ecuagenera invites you to the 25th anniversary.
Celebrate with you. An unforgettable day with typical Ecuadorian food and indigenous music.
Enjoy this unique day, the hospitality and meet orchid friends from all over the world.
Day 4 -GUALACEO to MENDEZ: Today is the Phragmipedium day. On the journey to Mendez in
the east of the Andes we will find numerous orchids such as Elleanthus, Sobralia and
Pleurothallis. The climax of the day are the sites of Phragmipedium besseae, pearcei and
reticulatum. It is something unique to see how these orchids grow practically in running water.
In the evening we will reach Mendez in the Amazon Basin and will get a completely new
impression of the climate in Ecuador.
Day 5 - MENDEZ to EL PANGUI: The journey today is in one of the most important streets of
Ecuador, which connects all cities from the Amazon. In new, changing, green jungle-like
landscapes, they will find Cyrtochilum, Oncidium, Stelis and many other species on the site. Of
particular note is the "Cerro Pan de Azucar", a mountain with a height of 3500m, a volcano that
was eroded 1,000,000 years ago, and today is a barely accessible biotope due to its dense
vegetation.
Day 6 - EL PANGUI: In the morning, we will visit the 3rd nursery of Ecuagenera. Here the tropical
warm orchids are cultivated. For the afternoon the visit of the Condor Binational Reserve Park
between Ecuador and Peru is planned. This area is known for its rare, endemic species. Scuticaria
salesiana.
Day 7 - EL PANGUI to LOJA: Today is one of the highlights of the tour. The trail takes us through
the Podocarpus National Park, along Zamora Chinchipe; Next to a stunning waterfall, there are
over 560 bird species and 63 orchid species. Rodriguezia, Epidendrum, Masdevallia and many
others can be found. After lunch we return to the Andes, where Masdevallia, Sobralia, Eriopsis,
Epidendrum, Maxillaria, Prostechea are waiting for them.
Day 8 - LOJA to SARAGURO: Also this day offers a huge selection of orchids in their natural
occurrence: Fernandezia, Telipogon, Cyrtochilum, Oncidium, Maxillaria, Myoxanthus,
Epidendrum. In Loja, the "musical and cultural capital of Ekuador", they spend the rest of the
day. Attention should be paid to the numerous country-specific dishes and sweets.
Day 9 - SARAGURO to GUALACEO: In Saraguro we meet a very original Ecuador, the inhabitants
have been preserving their own culture, clothing and language for centuries. Here we will visit a
good friend who has a unique orchid collection with telipogon and lepanthes. On the way back,
Oncidium, Epidendrum and Trichoceros are visited.
Day 10 - GUALACEO to CHAUCHA: Today you will be on the old, traditional roads up to 4000m
high into the Andes. In breathtaking landscapes and views, you will not only find orchids such as
Epidendrum, Maxillaria, Masdevallia, Caucaea, etc., but also the unique nature, mosses and
lichens that have adapted to this altitude. Warmer clothing can be an advantage.
Day 11 - GUALACEO to GIRON: On foot you will walk to the El Chorro waterfall in Giron, and on
the way we will find some rare varities: Telipogon, Caucaea, and many terrestrial orchids.
Day 12 - GUALACEO to GUAYAQUIL: After a city tour through Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site, and the visit of the production of Panama hats, the visit of art markets in the morning, you
drive back over the Andes 4,000m up to Guayaquil. On the way we stop for those who can still
see orchids to find Epidendrum, Odontoglossum and Masdevallia. When we take them to the
hotel or airport, we say good bye to you
