A sales effectiveness tool

Noledge has seen first-hand the benefits of usingUltrabook devices to showcase its solutions. Inrecent meetings it has found them an especiallyeffective tool for demonstrating the practical po-tential the solutions offer to sales teams. Poten-tial customers can quickly see how the softwareperforms on the new devices, and how easy it isto access information using the platform.

Besides being impressed by the effective formfactor of the touch-enabled devices, Noledge’senterprise customers and prospects are also re-assured by the support the devices offer for theirexisting security protocols and ongoing supportand maintenance requirements. Because the newUltrabook devices are based on Intel architecturepowering a Windows operating system, it is straight-forward for IT managers to integrate the devicesinto their existing IT environments.

Unlike other tablet devices, which are based on alimited mobile operating system, touch-enabledUltrabook devices are as easy to manage as anyother Windows-based device. Routine mainte-nance and software updates can be performed inconjunction with the rest of the organization’s ITresources, ensuring that the devices are fully up-to-date. The continuity offered by the hardwareand software powering the Ultrabook devices en-sures that existing enterprise security tools canstill be deployed on the new devices, in line withthe customer’s security policies.

Comprehensive security

Besides providing a compatible platform for anorganization’s existing maintenance software,Ultrabook devices powered by Intel Core vPro2

processors offer an additional layer of securityaround controlling access to the device itself. IntelAT built into the processor helps protect commer-cially sensitive company data, such as details ofpricing and promotional incentives, by ensuringthat this can only be accessed by those with theauthority to do so. If one of the devices is lost orstolen, it can be remotely disabled at the hardwarelevel.

Noledge has seen a high level of interest in theIntel AT features from enterprise customers whowish to support mobile working while ensuringthat they can maintain a high level of security. Withadditional support from tools such as Bitlocker*for full drive encryption the Ultrabook devices withWindows 8 provide an ideal solution for organiza-tions with a traveling sales force that needs a wayto transport and access important commercial data.

Noledge believes the security features in the Inteland Windows environment will enable more busi-nesses to support mobile access to critical datafor employees travelling away from the office, dueto the additional safeguards that can be put inplace to protect against unauthorized access.

A platform for growth

After evaluating them, Noledge sees touch-en-abled Ultrabook devices as the perfect match forits software offering, with both the hardware andsoftware supporting the requirements of its busi-ness customers. The effectiveness and user-friendlydesign of Noledge’s applications is matched by therobustness and convenient form factor of the touch-enabled devices, and their practical support for es-tablished IT security and maintenance frameworks.

As one of the first independent software vendors(ISVs) to upgrade its offering to the Windows 8platform, Noledge has positioned itself to takeadvantage of the transition of enterprise IT fromlimited traditional computing units to flexible, touch-enabled devices. By developing its solutions usingthe platform provided by Intel architecture andthe new Windows 8 operating system, Noledgehas ensured its customers have a clear route formaking this transition, which seamlessly bridgestheir existing and future technology and helpsdrive the user experience to the next level.

The arrival of touch-enabled devices has createdopportunities as well as challenges for Noledge’scustomers. Employees are increasingly familiar withthe latest technology and are interested in usingnew computing formats, such as tablets, in theworkplace to improve the efficiency of their workingprocesses. However, while these new devicesmay improve the user experience, they are oftennot compatible with established enterprise IT se-curity and management environments, or with theapplications organizations are currently using.

The new generation

With the arrival of Windows 8 and the availabilityof touch-enabled devices based on Intel architec-ture, Noledge was interested in enhancing theuser experience by upgrading its solution to takeadvantage of the new features these offer. Inparticular, it saw the new range of touch-enabledUltrabook convertibles running Windows 8 as anoptimal IT platform for staff within its enterprisecustomers. These offer the benefits of a more fluid, intuitive and faster user interface, while ensuringcompatibility with existing Windows-based soft-ware deployments and management processes.

For employees, Ultrabook convertibles offer thefull laptop experience based on proven Windowsand Intel technology, with the option of convertingthe device to a tablet by detaching the keyboard. This makes them ideal for sales executives, whocan use their Ultrabook as a screen-only device todeliver effective presentations when meeting withcustomers and prospects, then as a traditionallaptop back in the office, avoiding having to sharework across different devices.

Noledge began upgrading its offering for Windows 8,with Intel providing a development workstationand sample Ultrabook convertibles for it to testthe performance and usability of the new solution. The development process went smoothly, withNoledge’s team benefitting from the familiarity ofworking within the Windows and Intel develop-ment environment.

Using the new Windows 8 user interface, Noledgehas enhanced its EDGE One solution to create afully touch-enabled experience. Users can nowaccess information and content from Noledge’splatform quickly and simply, enabling them to de-liver more effective presentations and enhancemeetings with customers. The solution is availableto download from the Windows App Store* now.
