Software:

Best option: Using Finale software. Available in the Keyboard Lab and music rooms; you’ll be doing work with this notation software. You can also use the freeware from Sibelius, or Musescore, which is also a free program. These programs enable you to compose music, add melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and different voices or instruments.

In Keyboards you will:

Understand how to read treble clef, bass clef, and play simple melodies on the grand staff

Perform selections of varied lengths and complications Become more proficient in ear training and trusting musical instincts Learn about and recognize a variety of keyboard music, performers, and

composers. Develop an effective practice routine; find methods that work best for you Share practice progress with peers Understand accidentals (sharps and flats #,b) Increase your ability to read and play different notes simultaneously Understand and play melodies with major and minor triads in right hand Understand a lead sheet and play chords and bass notes with left hand Understand voice leading triads and chord inversion Add three-part and 7th chords to your playing Understand altered 9ths, 13ths and Blues progressions Utilize theory wiki workbook to improve music concepts Combine theory knowledge and keyboard playing to harmonize melodies Combine theory knowledge and keyboard playing to compose short melodies Learn or improve use of sequencer software in the keyboard lab–GarageBand Learn or improve use of notation software at home and in the keyboard lab

Expectations:

Respect each other Do your best to be open to a variety of musical stylesDon’t use the “s” word when speaking in disfavorHand in work on time. Late work/projects lose a half grade per day and puts your learning on hold.No food or drink in the music room (you’ll be told if there are exceptions)Absolutely no food, gum, cough drops, or drink ever, never, ever in the keyboard lab or recording studio.

My schedule is very full but I try to be as flexible as possible with having time available to meet students. My schedule is on the office door Rm. 128-A. Best meeting times are Xs on Tuesday or Wednesday. After November 20th I will have more availability afterschool on Monday and Thursdays. I will not be able to meet during G block.
