1. INTRODUCTION

The TAM-l (Telephone Access Module) is a remote control (add-on) module which is connected to the subscriber’s alarm control/communicator home telephone side. All other devices including the answering machine, fax machine, house phones, etc. are connected to the TAM-l.

The TAM-l can be connected to any FBI1 security panel via its 4 wire key station buss provided that panel uses either the FBI1 SM or RM style keypads.

The TAM-l also has a universal mode which requires the following control panel features:

- Keyswitch input

- Armed status output which maintains constant level

It can also be directly connected to any manufacturers security panel which has a mechanical key input and an armed status output.

When connected to FBI1 security panels (FBI1 Mode), the TAM-l will provide most of the keypad commands, except for user code programming which is only programmable through the control panel keypad. When connected to other manufacturer’s security panels (Universal Mode), the TAM-l will provide arm/disarm commands. NOTE: See the Summary of Functions for specific information.

4. SYSTEM OPERATIONS

The TAM-l can be accessed in either of two ways: Remote (away from home) and Local (on-premises).

4.1. REMOTE ACCESS The TAM-l can be accessed (activated) remotely using an outside telephone as follows:

Call the phone number to which the TAM-l is connected and allow the phone to ring the pre-determined number of rings. Default = five rings if the security panel is armed, nine rings if the panel is disarmed.

The TAM-l will answer with the message: “He//o, for system status, p/ease enter your user code”.

After the message is played, enter the [four digit PRIMARY or SECONDARY user code] (Universal Mode) (FBI1 Mode)

Defaults: Primary = 1234, Secondary = 5678

The TAM-l will respond to a correct user code by playing the present status of the security panel.

4.2. LOCAL ACCESS The TAM-l can be accessed (activated) locally using a telephone located on premise by picking up the phone and entering

a pre-determined number sequence:

Press*[3 digit Local Access Code], Default =*!Z

The TAM-l will respond to a correct number sequence by playing the present status of the security panel.

NOTE: Once a correct user code is accepted, the status of the system can be read and played back at any

time by entering [#I] [#I]. When connected to a FBI1 panel via the key station buss there is a 2 set delay

between requesting status and play back. This delay is because the TAM-l has to “read” the buss ta determine if any of the LED’s are flashinq: some LEDs flash at a verv slow rate.

4.3. SYSTEM STATUS PHRASES To obtain system status:

Press##

4.3.1. FBI1 MODE The following is a list of phrases the TAM-l will play to indicate security panel status when connected directly to a FBI1

alarm control panel via the key station four wire buss:

“System is not ready, zone(s) 1-12”

“System in on, to turn it off please enter your code”

“System is on, stay, to turn it off please enter your user code”

“System is on, instantktay, to turn it off p/ease enter your user code”

“System is in alarm, zone(s) l- 12, to turn it off please enter your user code”

“System is off, to turn it on please enter your user code”

“System is off, bypass, zones (s) 1-12, to turn it on please enter your user code”

“S stem is off, alarm, zone(s) l- 12, please enter your user code” Tf& h

l? rase serves as “alarm memory” as the zone(s) LED’s for zone(s)

the a arm is reset. The user code must be re-entered to turn them off. in alarm will still be flashing when

4.3.2. UNIVERSAL MODE The following is a list of phrases the TAM-l can play to indicate security panel status when connected to a security

panel via the panels mechanical key input and armed indicator output:

“System is on, to turn it off, please enter your code”

“System is off, to turn it on, please enter your code”

If the panel has a flashing Armed LED to-indicate alarm, TAM-l can say “System Is In Alarm. To turn it off, please enter your user code.”

User attempts to enter the code program mode by entering *9. TAM-l responds with: “Change code, please enter your user code”

User enters their user code. The TAM-l responds to a correct code with: “Enter your new user code”

When four numbers are entered the TAM-l responds: “New user code is, (four numbers entered by user)”

I NOTE: To replay the new user code, press #* immediately I

User attempts to hang up by entering **.

The TAM-l responds by playing the message “Good Bye” and then hangs up.

User enters correct user code but panel fails to change its armed status. The TAM-l, after a 2 second delay,

responds with “No change”.

The following is a list of phrases the TAM-l will play in response to user input, only when connected to an FBI1 panel via the key station buss:

User attempts to arm (turn on) the TAM-l responds with message: “S ay”. p

anel in the stay mode by entering #71 before entering user code. The

User attempts to arm (turn on) the panel in the instant/stay mode by entering #72 before entering user code. The TAM-l responds with message: “Instant/Stay”.

User attempts to activate a panic alarm by entering #83. The TAM-l responds with “Panic A/arm”.

NOTE: 24 consecutive incorrect digits causes the TAM-l to play the message “Good bye” and then hang up.

4.4. RELAY OPTIONS (UNIVERSAL MODE ONLY) (SEE OPTION 2) Standard - If the Standard closure is selected the relay will activate for two(2) seconds (regardless of what is selected for

Option 5) each time a correct user code is entered.

The status of the system will not play until1 the end of the two second relay closure.

In addition TAM-l will respond to a flashing ARMED LED input with the message Security System is in Alarm”. Flashing rate range is from two to ten pulses per second.

Custom - If the Custom closure is selected the relay activation time is selected by OPTION 5. TAM - 1 will respond to a flashing ARMED LED by changing the System . . . on/off message each time it sees a change on the input.

4.5. BYPASSING THE LOCAL TELEPHONE COMPANY VOICE MESSAGE SYSTEM If the TAM-l is connected to a line which uses Voice Messaging it can be bypassed as follows:

Call the phoine number to which the TAM-l is connected. Allow the phone to ring the pre-programmed number of rings (see option 8 Default=l).

After the last ring hang up, wait 10-20 seconds and call back.

TAM-l will answer on the first ring and play the message “Hello, for system status, please enter your user code”.

Note: If there is another device connected to the same line as TAM-l that also uses Voice Messaging Bypass, it is recommended that you add two(2) to the number of rings for the other device and use that number for the TAM-l bypass.

Example: If the other device uses 1 ring, add 2 for TAM-l. Program a 3 for option 8.

Fire Burglary Instruments, Inc.

4.6. BYPASSING THE LOCAL ANSWERING MACHINE The TAM-l can be accessed (activated) remotely using an outside a telephone as follows:

Call the phone number to which the TAM-l is connected and allow the phone to ring the pre-determined number of rings. Default = five.

ANSWERING MACHINE DETECTION: If an answering machine, modem or similar device is connected to the same telephone line as the TAM-1 and it answers first, you can still connect to the TAM-l by entering a user code during a “quiet ” time. The TAM-l will connect in parallel with whatever device first answered the call and will respond with the message: “He//o, for system sfatus, p/ease enter your user code”. The operation of the TAM-l will now be the same as if it had answered the call.

4.7. CHANGING USER CODES

There are three, four digit user codes programmable in the TAM-l which are as

follows:

MAINTENANCE CODE (Universal & FBI1 Modes) - This code is used by the installation company to make than used 7

es to the programmable options. The maintenance code cannot be used to arm or drsarm, nor can rt be o re-program the primary or secondary user codes. Note: When performing programmrng, TAM-l refers

to the maintenance code as the user code.

PRIMARY CODE (Universal 81 FBI1 Modes) - This code is used for remote access and to un-conditionally arm/disarm the security panel.

SECONDARY CODE (Universal Mode Only 1

- This code is also used for remote access and to un-conditionally arm/disarm the security pane.

FBI1 MODE: Codes for arming/disarming are only programmable through the alarm control. However, the

Primary Code from TAM-l is used in the FBI1 mode for remote access and bypassing the answering machine.

To avoid confusion, the primary code should always be the same as the user code in the control panel.

TO RE-PROGRAM ANY OF THE THREE CODES PROCEED AS FOLLOWS:

1) Activate the TAM-l either remotely or locally.

2) After the TAM-l answers enter *9. The TAM-l responds with: “Change code, please enter your user code”.

3) Enter the user code you wish to change. The TAM-l responds to a correct code with: “Enter your new user code”.

4) Enter new user code. After four di “New user code is (plays back t 8

its the TAM-l will respond with: e user code)“.

5) The user may replay the new user code by pressing #* immediately.
