2.1 PHYSICAL-MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Cement-bonded particle boards (hereinafter –CBPB) ТАМАК are solid plates having smooth and hard surface used in «dry assembly» technology. The thickness varies from 10 mm to 36 mm.

- ecological compatibility: absence of harmful impurity such as asbestos, phenol, formaldehydes and other;- machining by all usual wood processing tools (though cement-bonded particle boards are firmer than any wood);- fire resistance and fire safety;- water resistance and frost resistance;- biostability: thermits-, fungus-, insects- and rodents-resistant;- application both inside and outside living spaces and utility rooms; - variety of surface dressing: painting, plaster, ceramic tiling, boarding, plastic incrustation, etc.;- fitness for use in all climatic conditions.

High quality of CBPB ТАМАК is secured by a strict quality control in compliance with EN 634-2, as well as with the Russian state standard ГОСТ (GOST) 26816-86.The basic properties of CBPB ТАМАК are:

Cement-bonded particle boards, known at the market under the trade mark CBPB ТАМАК, belong to a new generation of constructional materials. Due to the original property set, they are widely used in all spheres of constructional industry. CBPB TAMAK are made by pressing moulded mixture, consisting of coniferous wood chips, Portland cement, mineral substance and water. Percentage of production mixture components, considering the total volume, is the following:

2.3 HEAT ENGINEERING PROPERTIES

Due to wood and cement integrity in CBPB, the plates represent homogeneous solid material without air drop-lets. This guarantees high thermal conductivity. That is why CBPB are used mostly in constructions where a com-bination of high tenability and low temperature resistance of a material is needed. Heat engineering properties of CBPB are estimated with the help of thermal conductivity coefficient which is the most important thermal rate of constructional materials.

Attention! Linear operational changes of dimensions does not influence badly the quality and durability of CBPB.

When constructing and designing it is necessary to consider that wood as a component of CBPB causes slight deviation of linear extensibility when environmental humidity changes. That is why when encasing outside vertical structures it is necessary to leave compensation joints (8 mm) between the plates, when encasing inside ones – (4 mm).On bearing horizontal structures (such as flooring) the plates are put close together and the dilatation gap has to be created along the walls in a width of 10 mm.

- saw blade 250 mm- quantity of cogs 48 - 72- saw blade 250 mm- quantity of cogs 36 - 60

Speed of rotation 3000 - 4000 circ/min

Attention! Cutting of the boards generates a lot of dust, that is why it is necessary to use dust exhaust apparatus and means of aspiration.

The major advantage of CBPB is an ease of machining them. Despite the fact that CBPB are much more firmer than particle boards, they can be machined by all usual wood processing tools. For professional machining of the plates and getting a qualitative machined face it is necessary to apply the tools milling plates of which are made of hard metal. CBPB can be cut, milled, bored and ground.

In the table one can see standard dimensions of stools (windowsill boards). We can produce other dimensions that a customer wishes.

The boards can be cut at the plant taking into account customer’s requirements. If there is a necessity to cut a plate at the site, it is recommended to use cutting tools with the plates made of hard metal. A lug of a sawing disc from the side of an undersurface must be minimum for the cut edges look impeccable.

4.3 MILLING

Milling at the plant is made by end-milling cutters, equipped with solderings made of hard metal, installed on a routing machine.

Milling at sites is made by end-milling cutters, equipped with solderings made of hard metalinstalled on an electrical manual mill.

Rotation frequencyof a milling instrument in the range 9000-12000 min

Rotation frequencyof a milling instrument in the range 12000-16000 min

Attention! It is necessary to have dust and chip extraction from the milling zone.

4.4 GRINDING

In accordance with the client’s documentation boring of through holes with dimples for screw heads can be done at the plant. To bore holes manually one needs to use:- borers with hard metal tips, having high wearing capacity,- boring systems with electronic rotation speed control.

Milling of CBPB ТАМАК is recommended to be done at the plant. However if plates application peculiarities require their milling at sites directly it is necessary to follow the recommendation (set forth below):

CBPB ТАМАК have a smooth surface that is why there is no grinding at the plant. All the more such kind of a plate surface treatment breaks the upper layer and opens a structure of a plate, increases its water absorption and thus leads to deterioration of physical-mechanical properties. At the same time when assembling plates, local roughness (which should be removed by grinding) can emerge at the junctures.

To fasten the plates it is necessary to use galvanized drivescrews from 2,5 mm. Nails dimensions are chosen in such a way that a length of a fixed end was not less than two thicknesses of a CBPB sheet and not less than 10 diameters of a nail (see the table).

Attention! Before fixing CBPB it is necessary to be sure in vertical or horizontal positioning of frame elements. Elements of a frame must be in plane.

CBPB can be fastened to bearing structures with screws and special nails. All types of fixture elements must have anticorrosive surface.

Attention! When grinding it is necessary to apply industrial exhaust fans and other means of dusting.

At the same time when assembling plates, local roughness (which should be removed by grinding) can emerge at the junctures. One can apply manual grinding tools: manual vibrogrinding machine, manual belt grinding machine. The grain number of grinding material must be №16-№25.

5.2. FIXING OF CBPB WITH SCREWS

Preliminary it is recommended to bore holes for screws with countersunk for their heads (diameter is 1,2 bigger than diameter of a screw). In case of fastening plates without prior boring of holes one can use only self-drilling screws with a hardened tip and countersunk head having edges for countersunk for its dimensions. To fasten plates to a construction it is possible to use screw intended for gypsum plasterboards. Dimensions of screws are chosen in such a way that a length of a restrained part is not less than two widths of a CBPB sheet and not less than10 diameters of a screw (see. c. 5.1). A span between screws is chosen according to the scheme, described in c.5.1. For a professional fastening it is recommended to use screwdrivers with a pneumatic or electrical drive.

6. JOINTS

EDGES AND JOINTS

Exposed dilatation joint, screw jointing Exposed dilatation joint, nail jointing

Closed dilatation joint, screw jointing Closed dilatation joint, nail jointing

When choosing a way of edges and joints engineering one should bear in mind exterior and interior climate and especially moisture. Possible ways of edges and joints engineering are numerous. The most prevailing ones see below.

Attention! Cement-bonded particle boards are delivered from the plant having humidity 9+3 %. Plates must be protected from moisture before assembly.

CBPB ТAMAK as any other material made of wood shrink and expand when humidity changes. That is why big quantity of joints (small size of plates) leads to a light shift of plates, and a small amount of joints (big size of plates) – to a bigger shift. Shifts are suspended by means of fastening the plates inside the joints. During long-term tests of the plates the trends to plates shrinkage became visible, which needs to be considered thoroughly when doing closed joints. To prevent crack formation in construction mixtures for sealing of joints, a width of a closed visible compensation joint must be 8 mm for exterior use and 4 mm – for interior. The most reliable and simple decision concerning assembly, technical and aesthetic point of view is exposed visible compensation joint with a width 4-8 mm.

7 SURFACE TREATMENT OF CEMENT-BONDED PARTICLE BOARDS

7.1 PAINTING

7.1 PAINTING

From esthetic point of view joints created by plates with chamfered edges look effective. In case when a surface treatment without joints is needed, it is necessary to apply a system of planar joint filler.

Furthermore, created joints between the plates can:- be left as an element of design (in this case the edges of a plate are necessary to be painted the colour one needs);- be filled in with elastic mastic;- be covered with decorative metal, plastic or wooden laths.

The simplest way to treat the surface of CBPB is painting with creation of joints between the plates (see. fig. 7). Acrylic or silicon base paints are the most suitable for this purpose. Depending on a type of paint and a wish of a customer paints are applied in one or several coats on a dry grounded surface of a plate.

Attention! Regardless of the ways of CBPB surface treatment, it is strongly recommended to apply a first coat to surfaces and edges.

7.2 PLASTERINGIt is possible to carry out plastering on sheeting made of CBPB with visible joint or without it.

7.5 FLOORING

Linoleum, carpetsFloors made of cement-bonded particle boards, for thin-layer covers (fig. 10) such as linoleum, carpet covers are to be glazed along the full flatness with proper treatment of joints between boards. It is recommended using the elastic mastics with an acrylic base as a filler. It is recommended that possible irregularities, non-joining of plates edges to be deleted with polishing in accordance with the described above technology.

7.4 FACING WITH CERAMIC TILE

It is not recommended gluing ceramic tile to sheets of CBPB directly. To get long-lived facing on sheetingsheeting made of CBPB it is necessary to fix gypsum cardboard moisture-resistant sheets (GCMS) directly on sheeting made of CBPB by means of screws with covering joints not less than 200 mm (in this case the sheeting made of CBPB is a bearing member). The plate surface is covered with adhesive mastic. 4 – Sheets of GCMS

8.1 GENERAL PROVISIONS

By using CBPB it is possible to carry out the following: - exterior finishing of houses and buildings; - interior finishing of rooms with dry and humid air; - repair, restoration and reconstruction work.

The TAMAK CBPB has a number of obvious advantages when used in prefabricated constructions which must meet such exacting demands as high strength, moisture resistance, soundproofness, fire-safety, ecological compatibility and hygienic harmlessness, resistance to atmosphere influence. Tests showed that the TAMAK CBPB can stand bad weather conditions.

When organizing floor made of ceramic tiles its is recommended using prefabricated floor base made of gypsum fibrous sheets on levelling dry bitstone, in this case CBPB acts as a structural base (see fig. 11).

Advantages of CBPB are gained more fully in the following cases: Exterior finishing

1. Heat insulation of buildings, industrial and farm structures.2. Erection of extra floors to the already existed buildings. 3. Production of prefabricated houses rlements, administration buildings etc. 4. Prefabricated ties of floor and roofing elements.

8.2 TAMAK CBPB APPLICATION IN PREFABRICATED STRUCTURES

8.2.1 Heat insulation of existing buildings

The method of facades heat insulation on a wood framework is permitted to use for buildings consisting of not more than 3 floors.

At present time heat insulation of existing buildings has become the actual work because of the implementation of new Heat Engineering Standards in construction. The offered variant of heat insulation does not demand a big capital investment and significant labour costs. The main point of the method is building up either the furring made of 50х80 (50х50) mm wood bars, or the framework made of galvanized or aluminum profile with 600 mm spacing. Plates with a width of 12(16) mm are used for facing. Heat-insulating materials are put between a wall and CBPB. Gaps between cement bonded-particle boards make up 6-8 mm. Joints must be hermetically sealed with either sealing fillers or elastic mastic. Battens are fixed over the joints, the battens can be made of available materials: CBPB, wood, metals, plastic.

Using the TAMAK CBPB in constructing-and-mounting, finishing work leads to a real economy. It is explained with law value of plates, low labour costs for erection, and short periods of construction as well. For constructing-and-mounting brigades the CBPB application is a symbol of quality and reliability, a determining factor in receiving an obvious advantage over their competitors.

8.2.2 Sheeting of frame structures

Plates with a width of 10,12 and 16 mm are used as exterior and interior sheeting of walls (on frame-furring), facing of columns and cross-bars for industrial and farm structures.

TAMAK firm currently develops a system of ventilated facades by using CBPB.

The space between the base and sheeting is filled with mineral plates or left empty, depending on requirements of fire protection and soundproofness met. Cement particle-bonded boards with a width of 16,24 and 36 mm may perform as the following elements of floors: a base for different covering, an underlayer, a leveling layer, a finished floor with face covering. It is possible to use plates 24 and 36 mm to install prefabricated floors on a made base in warehouses and store rooms. In addition, wet processes are excluded, that enables to carry out works at a temperature below 0°. What is more, plates may substitute cement tie.The advantages of this solution are as follows: reducing labouriousness of work, absence of dust and dirt, an opportunity to carry out repair work without stopping production.

Floors made of CBPB are installed along sleepers (minimum section 50х80 mm). To determine a distance between sleepers it is recommended using data of the following table:

Plates with width of 12 and 16 mm are used in moisture-resistant partitions. It is caused by corresponding physical and mechanical properties of the material. It is possible to use CBPB for lavatory partitions of different purposes buildings. Plates should be precoated and covered with painting compositions, which are suitable for humid conditions. To avoid non-uniform water-saturation of plates it is necessary to cover their edges with water-repellent compositions.

Having fire-proof characteristics the TAMAK CBPB is an eco-friendly and moisture-resistant material. That is why CBPB are successfully applied in interior finishing of walls. Eco-friendly plates make surfaces of walls and room dividers plane. TheТАМАК plates are used as internal cover of walls in dwelling houses, civil and industrial structures with dry, normal and humid conditions. Fixing plates is carried out in different ways:- on the furring made of wood bars by nails or screws;- on metal profiles by self-drilling screw.

Sheeting is fixed to the frame-furing assembled from wood bars or metal profiles.

8.2.6 Modular, retained formwork

Plates with a width of 12,16 and 24 mm may be used as elements of formwork, modular or retained, for foundations installation of low buildings. A simple structure of formwork enables to reduce labour costs and to archive significant reducing cost price of products when foundation work is carried out.

Range of built structures application is determined by Building Standards and Regulations (SNiP) 21-01-97, depending on a fire-resistance limit of a structure and a fire-resistance degree of a building.

TAMAK panel houses of 231 series made with one layer of CBPB sheeting relate to VI fire-resistance degree. If the additional second layer made of a gypsum fibrous sheet (12 mm) is used in the structure, III fire-resistance degree of the building with the fire-resistance limit of REI 60 is achieved, that enables to build up to three-storey panel houses.

ТАМАК CBPB is an eco-friendly material, that is why there is no harm for the environment and people health when it is used correctly. The materials, which are used in plates production, stay in connected state and does not have natural radioactivity. The plate is a firm monolithic material. Evolving dust, gases and vapours from plates is impossible because of the contained substances mineralization and the used production technology. In case of a fire in premises the plates do not evolve toxic gases and vapours. To protect the respiratory tract from dust appeared during mechanical processing it is necessary to use dust suction devices and aspiration facilities.

Windowsills made of CBPB suit perfectly any modern interior. Under its characteristics a windowsill made of CBPB is more durable than one made of wood. At the factory output of windowsill boards with a width of 24 and 36 mm is set up, GOST (State Standard) 8242-88, which have the following advantages:- stability of geometrical sizes; - plane firm surface;- absence of joints;- law price. Before setting a windowsill board must be previously precoated on all sides. At the factory the coated and painted windowsill boards may be produced if a customer desires.

CBPB application safety is documented by certificates of fire safety and hygiene (see Appendix 1 on page 20)
