System Description: HIMARS is a transformational 24 hour, ground-based, responsive General Support / General Support-Reinforcing (GS/GSR) precision indirect fire support system which accurately engage targets at long ranges (60+ Km) with high volumes of lethal fire under all weather conditions throughout all phases of combat operations ashore. HIMARS is C-130 and amphibious transportable and with precision fires, supports both irregular and traditional warfare.

Comments: Currently the only issue with the HIMARS program is the numerous funding decrements received this past year. The program has been decremented $235M across the FYDP. This has resulted in a reduction of 10 systems and over 1,900 rocket munitions. This results in FOC not being achieved until funding is restored. There are no other major issues with this program. The program is on schedule, within cost and has met or exceeded all performance requirements.

Rationale: MROCDM 09-2002 reduced the AAO for HIMARS from 45 systems to 40. A system consists of one launcher and two resupply vehicles with trailers and munitions. The AAO for the launcher is 40 (36 operational and 4 DMFA)
